Johnny Depp Rejoining Band

Johnny Depp is set to join his fellow Hollywood Vampires bandmates Alice Cooper and Joe Perry on a concert tour next year.  “The Hollywood Vampires are BACK!! We’re coming to Germany and Luxembourg Summer 2023! Tickets go on sale Monday 27 June,” the band tweeted Wednesday. “Keep an eye out for more to come.”  Formed in 2012, the band has released two albums, which include guest appearances by Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl and Joe Walsh.  Earlier this month, a Virginia jury found both Depp and his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, at least partially liable of defamation, but overwhelmingly favored the latter in the awarding of damages.  Depp said at the time the jury’s verdict “gave me my life back.”

Amber Heard Working On a Tell-All Book

Amber Heard is reportedly “in talks” to write a tell-all book following her loss in court earlier this month against ex-husband Johnny Depp in their multi-million dollar defamation trial.  She is “really excited” about the potential new work as sources told OK! magazine Heard has “nothing to lose” now that the proceedings are over in the highly publicized dispute.  Depp was awarded $10.35 million in damages after a jury declared Heard defamed Depp on all counts following a nearly seven-week trial in Virginia amid allegations of domestic violence and sexual assault. Heard lost the defamation case, but was awarded $2 million in her countersuit as jurors found that Depp defamed her through his attorney.  When asked about the possible “revenge” tome, Heard’s representative’s told Fox News Digital: “We don’t have a comment to share on this.”  An insider alleged to the publication: “Amber considers her career in Hollywood over. She’s already in talks and is excited about it. At this point, she has nothing to lose and wants to tell all.”  Potential lawsuits could be brought forward if Heard decided to write anything, author and lawyer Dror Bikel told the magazine.  “Depp and his attorneys will be reading and listening to everything that Heard states,” Bikel said. “If she crosses the line, which is likely, there is no question that will be hit with another defamation suit and end up right back in court.”

Brad Pitt Searched For Gold In His Backyard

Brad Pitt revealed in his GQ magazine August 2022 cover story that a man once convinced him that one of the previous owners of his French chateau stole millions of dollars’ worth of gold during the medieval times and buried it in the estate.  “I got obsessed,” he confessed. “Like for a year, this was all I could think about, just the excitement of it all.”  He suggested perhaps his upbringing played a part in his enthusiasm.  “Maybe it has something to do with where I grew up, because in the Ozark Mountains there were always stories of hidden caches of gold,” he said.  However, after a year of searching, Pitt found no treasure and discovered that the man who told him about it was seeking investment in some sort of a radar company.  The “Moneyball” star called the experience “pretty foolish in the end,” but concluded, “It was just the hunt that was exciting.”

Britney Spears Shows Off New House

Britney Spears is back on Instagram after a brief hiatus with an update on her and husband Sam Asghari’s new home.  After telling her Instagram followers Wednesday that she and the model, 28, “haven’t been on their honeymoon [yet],” she described how their Calabasas, Calif., house has been “coming together” in the meantime.  “It’s so weird I wake up and everything is new … new pool … new kitchen … new bed … I think I’m in shock !!!” she explained. “My yard is sick so my dogs are in pig heaven.”  Spears posted photos of herself posing in the backyard in a colorful bikini as well as a video of Asghari diving into their pool.  “I took a nice dip in my pool,” the Grammy winner went on to write. “It’s so bright and it has a nice chill spot … and a slide … I went down it 4 times already … it’s hella fast !!!”  The “Crossroads” star assured her fans that “life is good” after her wedding earlier this month — although she noted moving into a new home so soon after her nuptials was “not the smartest thing to do.”
********Now that she’s married, there will be no more naked shots.. until after the honeymoon!!

Netflix Boss Questions At Cannes

Netflix boss Ted Sarandos fielded a slew of questions about the demise of his company’s stock price, how he plans to stop the bleeding and his reason for defending the controversial comedy specials of Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais, which put him at the center of a culture war.  “Let’s start out with the bad news: Your stock price,” said tech journalist Kara Swisher, who interviewed Sarandos on Cannes Lions mainstage Thursday. “Flying high a year ago… things were going well. This was a moment where everyone said Netflix owned the world.”  The subscription decline has tanked Netflix’s stock nearly 50 percent since the announcement, causing Wall Street to question whether the streaming giant, which is known for hit shows like “Stranger Things,” “Bridgerton” and “Squid Game” has any more room to grow.  Sarandos who was in Cannes to accept the Entertainment Person of the Year Award at the advertising festival, said he’s experienced similar hiccups in the past.  “There’s a time where the market disconnects from the core business. You have to prove to the market,” he said before calling out Hollywood, which has reveled in Netflix’s missteps.  “They viewed us as a spoiler; they’re happy to see the spoiler trip,” he added.  The co-CEO of the world’s largest streaming service explained that the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated password sharing and there has been an increase in competition to the streaming space.  As a result, his company is going to crack down on users who divide accounts and add a lower-priced advertising tier, which will likely attract more customers who don’t want to shell out an average of $16 a month.  The exec also did not bite when Swisher asked who Netflix will be partnering with for its ad tier amid reports that it could work with the likes of NBCUniversal or Google. He brushed off the question, saying the company is in talks with all the “biggest advertisers.”
*********They shouldn’t crack down too hard, because there are now a lot of other choices!!!
TOPIC: Password-sharing.. do YOU do it??

Rupert Murdoch Divorcing

Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall are divorcing after six years of marriage.  The 91-year-old media mogul and the 65-year-old model tied the knot in 2016. It was Murdoch’s fourth marriage. He was previously married to Wendi Deng from 1999 to 2013; Anna Maria Torv from 1967 to 1999; and Patricia Booker, from 1956 to 1967. Hall had been married to Mick Jagger, the rock star and lead singer of the Rolling Stones.  During the marriage, Murdoch orchestrated the sale of most of 21st Century Fox to The Walt Disney Company in 2019 in a deal valued at $71.3 billion. However, he continues to serve as chairman of Fox Corporation, a publicly traded entity that owns Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Television Stations, Fox News, Fox Business and Fox Sports. Through News Corporation, the publishing empire at which he remains executive chairman, Murdoch controls The Wall Street Journal, The Sun and book publisher HarperCollins.

Bear Breaks Into Vacation Home

A Wisconsin conservation warden was summoned to a vacation home where a black bear broke in through an open window while a family slept.  Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Conservation Warden Tim Werner was summoned to the vacation home near Crivitz when a family from Illinois awoke to find a bear had entered through a kitchen window.  “The bear was able to actually punch through the screen and came in, ate some food in the kitchen and then ended up working its way into the master bathroom,” Werner told WBAY-TV.  The family managed to close the bear into the bathroom and fled the home.  “Our original plan was to actually try to funnel this bear — open the bathroom door, use some furniture to funnel it to the front door and let it out that way. Unfortunately, the bear didn’t cooperate with us and didn’t want to come out of the bathroom,” Werner said.  Werner ended up using a catch pole to wrangle the bruin out of the house. Video of Werner’s bear wrangling skills was captured by Shane Gyger.

Mystery Horse

Authorities in Texas are trying to find the owner of a mystery horse found wandering loose through a residential neighborhood.  City of San Antonio Animal Care Services said in a Facebook post that animal care officers responded to the area of Rigsby and Highway 87 when a horse was reported wandering loose through the streets.  Officials said a witness managed to lasso the horse and keep it out of traffic until it could be turned over to the animal care officers.  The horse, dubbed Celyao by rescuers, was not microchipped and did not have any brand officials could locate.  The horse was taken to the Animal Care Services corral while the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office attempts to locate the animal’s owner.

Pregnant Dog Credited For Lottery Win

A man credits his new big bank account to his pregnant dog.  Leonard Linton won a $2 million grand prize playing a $10 scratch-off game from the Florida Lottery.  Linton remembers the day he bought the winning ticket at the Stop N Shop in Live Oak.  He had to rush home to tend to his pregnant dog, Ivy. She wasn’t feeling well, so he took a quicker route to the house.  He made a pit stop at a convenience store where he shelled out $10 for the ticket and ended up winning $2 million.  Linton, of Pinetta, claimed the prize in Tallahassee with his lucky dog by his side. The store will pick up a $4,000 bonus commission for selling the ticket.

University Trademarks “THE”

Ohio State University has won its fight to trademark the word “The.”  The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office approved the university’s request Tuesday. The school says it allows Ohio State to control use of “The” on branded products associated with and sold through athletics and collegiate channels, such as T-shirts, baseball caps and hats.  “THE has been a rallying cry in the Ohio State community for many years, and Buckeye fans who purchase official Ohio State gear support student scholarships, libraries and other university initiatives,” said Ben Johnson, the university’s senior director of media and public relations. He noted the university’s licensing and trademark program generates over $12.5 million a year in revenue, which helps fund student scholarships and university programs.  Ohio State started pursuing a trademark in August 2019 after fashion retailer Marc Jacobs had filed an application for the word a few months earlier. The company and the university reached a deal in August 2021 that allows both parties to use the branding.
*********Excuse us… we’re gonna get a trademark on “a!!!” We’ll be rich!!!!

A LIST FOR FRIDAY

These Are Everyday Items That You Can Recycle for Money

THE PENNY HOARDER

  1. Scrap Metal

Scrap metal is one of the more profitable materials to recycle.

Copper, steel and aluminum are just a few of the scrap metals that you can recycle for money. Google your local area and “scrap yard” to find a facility that takes whatever metals you have and learn their procedures for drop off.  Scrap metal prices were rising because of the pandemic caused shipping woes. Some forecasters think prices will start to sink later this year. Now is a good time to get rid of that junk metal.  Once you have rounded up your metal, find out if it is ferrous or non-ferrous by seeing if a magnet sticks to it. If it does, the metal is ferrous and likely a common metal like steel or iron. These items typically aren’t worth much, but it’s still worthwhile to recycle them. If the magnet does not stick, you likely have copper, aluminum, brass, bronze or stainless steel on your hands. These metals are more valuable.

Copper is one of the more profitable metals: Copper prices continue to rise, hovering at $3.33 per pound.  Aluminum is averaging around 98 cents a pound. Auto (tire) rims will sell for $1.05 a pound.  If you are recycling used truck and auto parts, it’s worth cleaning them up to get more money from the scrapyard. Prepared aluminum radiators sell for 45 cents a pound, compared to dirty ones at 25 cents per pound.

Yellow brass can yield about $2.00 per pound, and die-cast metal goes in the 77-cents-a-pound range, though prices vary by region.  Don’t overlook old tools as a source of metal scrapping. Some old tools are collectible items. Check online before you decide to get rid of them. Those that aren’t collectibles can be scrapped, especially if they are made of tool steel.

  1. Bottles and Cans

One Penny Hoarder writer made $1,500 cashing in soda cans he collected at work though that might not be possible if you’re one of the thousands of Americans working from home. Still, you can make money by rounding up bottles and cans, whether from work, friends and family, at events, or just the recyclables you use at home.

These 10 states have bottle bills: California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Oregon and Vermont.

California offers 5 cents for most plastic and glass bottles and aluminum cans smaller than 24 ounces, and 10 cents for 24-ounce or larger containers. It’s technically a bottle deposit, but many people don’t bother to collect their refunds, so it’s easy money for bottle and can collectors.

Michigan has a 10-cents per bottle recycling rate, which has prompted people to illegally smuggle in empty bottles purchased out of state to cash in. (This was even the plot of one “Seinfeld” episode!) Many states have similar deposit programs, so check what’s available where you live.

  1. Car Batteries

Advance Auto Parts offers a $10 store gift card to customers who bring in their used car batteries (light-duty truck batteries are also accepted). If the company doesn’t have an outlet near you, call your local auto parts stores to see whether they offer similar deals.

  1. Ink Cartridges

A number of office supply stores, including Staples and Office Depot accept used ink cartridges for recycling. Staples offers $2 back per cartridge, with a maximum of 10 returns per month, and you have to spend at least $30 on ink or toner within 180 days of recycling.

Office Depot also gives you $2 back in program rewards for each ink or toner cartridge you recycle, up to 10 cartridges per month. But you must also purchase ink from them the same month. There is no limit on the number of cartridges you can recycle, but you will only receive points on the first 10 per month. You can use your points toward a number of different perks and discounts.

  1. Cell Phones

Eco-Cell is one of many companies that offers cash for old cell phones and other electronics. The company accepts working or broken phones, tablets, rechargeable batteries, circuit boards and a variety of other electronics. Even if an item is broken or was submerged in water and is unusable, Eco-Cell will accept it in order to divert electronics from landfills and properly dispose of their toxic components and metals.  Many cell phone providers, including Verizon and AT&T, have trade-in programs where you can receive a voucher, gift card or other reward for turning in your old phone. Amazon Trade-in is another way to earn gift cards.  A number of charities also accept cell phones, whether to re-purpose or sell and use the funds for a charitable purpose. Cell Phones for Soldiers refurbishes and sells your old phone to active-duty military members and veterans. If a phone is too old or broken, Cell Phones for Soldiers sells it to recyclers who strip it for parts and dispose of its metals responsibly. The proceeds from the sales go to purchase international calling cards for troops and provide emergency financial assistance to veterans.

Organizations that work with domestic abuse victims also accept used cell phones for their clients for emergency 911 calls.

And of course, you can always sell your old phone yourself.

  1. Junk Cars

Your rusted old jalopy? You can recycle it for money. There are companies that pay cash for broken down cars. U-Pull-It has a helpful guide on the best way to scrap your car.

Junk Car Medics is  another company that will buy your vehicle.  You can sell your car to them online or over the phone. You enter details about your vehicle, such as condition and mileage, and quickly get an offer. If you accept it, you’ll have to provide proof of ownership and a few other details before you get paid. The company says most transactions are same-day, and they take the car away for you.

  1. Wine Corks

You can let your wine pay a little bit for itself. Sites like Etsy and Ebay and others show listings for used wine corks. Selling on these sites isn’t difficult. When setting prices, keep in mind that the sites charge small fees for both listing and selling items.

You also want to make sure you know how much it will cost to mail an item so there are no unpleasant surprises during the transaction.

  1. Used Boxes

Just moved and have a bunch of boxes? Or do you have a slight online shopping addiction and have piles of boxes in the garage? You can resell your boxes through Boxcycle and other similar sites. They take pretty much everything as long as they are still in decent shape and don’t smell.

  1. Electronics

Old laptops, monitors, tablets, and other electronics can be sold through sites like Decluttr. But wait, there’s more! They also take dvds, cds, books, games, and cell phones. Decluttr has an app you can download to make selling easier.

A similar site is IWM, which stands for It’s Worth More. It covers similar electronics but also includes camera sales.

  1. Cooking Oil

Used (or spoiled) cooking oil is used in biofuels, which is a growing market. While an individual household may not use a lot of oil, many restaurants do. Lots of companies will offer to give you containers and pick up your oil. Only a handful promise to pay. GF Commodities services most of the continental US and will pay for oil.

  1. The Rest of Your Unwanted Stuff

You can “recycle” belongings you no longer want on a variety of apps and platforms and get a little something back for them. ThredUpSwap, and Poshmark are popular apps where you can sell clothes online.

ThredUp will send you a free shipping label and apply credits for anything that sells to your own account, but it’s often not a lot of money. Poshmark offers bigger potential payouts, but you have to put in more work to make your items move.  OfferUp is a second-hand site where you can buy or sell just about anything you no longer use.

https://www.ziffit.com/en-us/is another site for selling CDs, dvds, books, and games.  Someone has to provide all of those tennis balls to the pups. There are several sites accepting used balls, including Rebouncing and Tennis Ball Recycling.

If you have a bunch of gift cards that you haven’t (and probably won’t) used, you can sell them online for cash. It won’t be for the full amount of the card, but better than them just sitting in the junk drawer. Cardcash lets you post your card and sell it directly. On the other hand, you post what you have on Clipkard and the site directly makes you an offer.
