Anne Hathaway Starts Pillow Challenge

Anne Hathaway channeled her Princess Diaries character while completing the #PillowChallenge.  She took on the social media challenge Wednesday on Instagram. Hathaway played Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries (2001) and its sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.  The #PillowChallenge challenges people to style pillows as dresses with the help of a belt or other accessories. Hathaway fashioned a dress out of a blue pillow and two white pillows and completed her look with black boots, headphones and sunglasses.  Hathaway’s look brought to mind the Princess Diaries poster, which shows Mia wearing headphones. The character also was fond of combat boots.  Hathaway quoted Julie Andrews’ Princess Diaries character, Clarisse Renaldi, in the caption. “‘A Queen is never late; everyone else is simply early.’ #pillowchallenge,” she wrote.  Actress Halle Berry is among the other celebrities to complete the #PillowChallenge. Berry posted a photo last week of her wearing a black pillow and a black hat.  “You already KNOW you couldn’t keep me from the #PillowChallenge,” she wrote.  See the post HERE.

Whitney Houston Getting Movie Treatment

Whitney Houston’s life is getting a feature film tribute.  “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” will chronicle the life of the late singer who died in 2012 at age 48. The project is set to be written by Anthony McCarten, the mastermind behind the Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which earned four Academy Awards.  The biopic is being shepherded by the Whitney Houston Estate, music producer Clive Davis and Primary Wave Music, the partners said Wednesday.  The film promises to be “frank about the price that super-stardom exacted,” according to the media release, which explained that the project “came together after Davis first approached McCarten with the idea of a biopic, in April last year.”  “From all my personal and professional experience with Whitney from her late teenage years to her tragic premature death, I know the full Whitney Houston story has not yet been told,” Davis said in a statement. He said McCarten’s script will finally reveal the “whole Whitney whose vocal genius deeply affected the world while she fiercely battled the demons that were to be her undoing.”  Houston sold more than 200 million records worldwide during her 25-year career and won six Grammys, 16 Billboard Music Awards and two Emmys before her death in 2012.

Jennifer Lopez Remembers Ben Affleck’s Engagement Ring

Jennifer Lopez currently sports an 18-carat engagement ring from her fiancé, Alex Rodriguez that cost him a whopping $1.8 million, but Lopez is still giddy when she speaks about the famous pink sparkler she received from Ben Affleck back in 2002, at the height of their romance.  She spoke about the 6-carat rock on Monday during a group conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Dua Lipa and Charli XCX after mentioning that she had been watching musicals with her children such as the Barbara Streisand-led “Funny Girl,” whom Lopez said she had no idea has a huge soft spot for diamonds.  “I met [Streisand] at an Oscar party, years ago, and I was at the time engaged to Ben Affleck, and — she’s really into diamonds, which I didn’t know,” Lopez said. “He had given me a pink diamond, which got a lot of press and was … whatever. I loved getting it, don’t get me wrong.” “It was very much not ‘whatever,'” Lowe said, eliciting a round of laughs.  “I mean, I loved getting it, don’t get me wrong,” Lopez said before adding: “So, she came up to me, and like, she’s heard of it. And she’s like, ‘Can I see your ring?’ And she asked me about the ring, but then she asked me — and I thought it was so strange — about being famous, and how I handle it.”  Streisand likely knew exactly what Lopez had on her finger because the glistening Harry Winston ring was worth an estimated $2.5 million and set a new trend for colored diamonds.
********That’s nice, but hang on… we’re checking to see if our stimulus check got deposited!!
*******How many million$ have been spent on engagement rings for J Lo??

Large Alligator Takes Over Back Yard

A South Carolina family shared video of a large alligator visiting their back door and ransacking the yard.  The Lossada family said the gator, known locally as “Big George,” ended up at the back door of their Sea Pines home on Monday.  The family said George ransacked their patio furniture, knocked over a fire pit and slammed its tail into their glass door.  They said alligators are common in the area.  “We see those everyday, but never in the back yard knocking everything down,” Fernando Lossada told the Hilton Head Island Packet. “This is to the next level.”  He said the alligator was eventually escorted back to the lagoon by a team of four security guards.

A LIST FOR FRIDAY

Our Kids Are Feeling Lonely In Lockdown. Here Are 10 Ways to Help

Huffington Post

Identify their ‘triggers’

“Discuss it with them in a very open-ended way,” Emma Citron advises. “Ask them: “When have you noticed you’re missing your friends?” They might say it’s during the school day, because they’re used to seeing them between 8am and 43pm. You could reassure them that it’s been the holidays, and that’s why they haven’t spoken to them. And you can share with them that you realize it’s hard because the holidays started early.”

Listen when they’re feeling frustrated

“When they say, “It’s not fair, I’m not seeing my friends’, listen,” Citron says. “You can say, ‘Even though you’d normally do those things, try to understand it’s not personal to you and it’s affecting everyone.’ Ask them what they think would help them feel better. It may be that they want more contact with their friends – you can help them create a WhatsApp group or HouseParty or Zoom session on your phone or laptop, with supervision.”

Help them identify feelings by writing them down

“Tell them, ‘When you are feeling that way – frustrated, angry, overwhelmed, sad, confused – come to me and we can stick them on the fridge and you can point to one and tell me how you’re feeling. Then we can talk about it.’ This will help them to process the emotional experiences they’re having.”

Remember that kids need privacy, too

“They’ve lost privacy by not being with their friends,” Citron says. “Even if they’re little, it’s important for kids to have ‘private time’ to make silly jokes or chat about normal ‘kid’ things. Try to give them back some privacy.”

Diffuse rather than stoke tantrums

Avoid doing anything that provokes kids unduly – sarcasm, making them feel worse, or showing them up, Citron says. “Be empathetic and understanding with them. Say something like, ‘It’s very hard to help you when you’re screaming and waving your arms around. But I’m here to hug you.’”

It’s okay to feel irritable, too

“Acknowledge your feelings and normalize them,” Citron says. “Remind yourself that they are something you can do something about – by going into the garden, if you’re lucky enough, or take yourself out to the park to speak to friends on the phone. If you’re feeling good, you’ll have more headspace to help your kids.”

Try ‘reflective listening’

This three-fold technique – ‘label’, ‘reflect’ and ‘normalize’ – can be a useful way to make your child feel heard and understood, says Street, and also develop confidence in talking about their feelings. “Start by labelling their emotions, ie. ‘You look/sound sad?’ and allow them to open up in their own time. Next try to reflect their emotions in your response ie. ‘So, you feel sad because…?’ Finally, try to normalize their feelings ie. ‘I would feel sad because of that too.’”

Encourage acceptance

“Practicing acceptance of some uncertainty plays an important part in helping children to develop emotional resilience,” Street says. “Attention-training exercises such as mindfulness can help children be more aware of their thoughts and how to direct attention away from worrying. If you find they’re stuck in a ‘worry cycle’, setting aside specific times to talk about their worries such as half an hour in the morning or evening can be helpful.”

Practice breathing techniques

“If you feel your children are getting worked up, pay attention to the length of their exhales and inhales,” Street says. “Slower respirations decrease the body’s stress response so encourage them to breathe less than 12 breaths a minute. Pairing breathing exercises with mindfulness can be a great way to help them relax before bed and promote good sleeping habits, which are fundamental to children’s emotional wellbeing.”

Create a nurturing environment

“These are incredibly challenging times for parents and families, but try not to expose your children to parental disagreements or tension,” Street advises. “They need to know that the home is comforting and positive, and with so much external disruption they need things at home to function as normally as possible to help keep them free from worry.”
