Celine Dion Shares She Has Rare Disorder

Celine Dion is sharing her struggle with a rare neurological disorder.  She postponed the spring 2023 dates of her Courage tour Thursday after being diagnosed with Stiff-person syndrome.  In a video on Instagram, Dion said the disorder causes spasms that affect her ability to walk and sing.  “Recently, I’ve been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called stiff-person syndrome, which effects something like one in a million people,” the star said.  “While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all of the spasms that I’ve been having. Unfortunately, the spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”  “I miss you so much,” she told fans. “I miss seeing all of you, being on the stage, performing for you. I always give 100% when I do my shows, but my condition is not allowing me to give you that right now.”  Dion postponed the opening of her Las Vegas residency show at Resorts World Theatre in October 2021 due to “severe and persistent muscle spasms.”

Meghan Compares Meeting The Queen To Medieval Times!

In their new Netflix documentary, Meghan and Harry revealed the awkward moment just before Meghan was about to meet the late Queen Elizabeth II for the first time back in 2018.  In the second episode of the ‘Harry & Meghan’ series, the couple divulged that when they were in the taxi on their way to meet the queen for the first time together, Harry turned to Meghan and asked her if she knew how to curtsy. Curtsying is a tradition which has been upheld in the Royal Family and is a gesture performed by women as a sign of respect to the King or Queen in power.  Meghan explained that she thought her husband-to-be’s question “was a joke”.  “My grandmother was the first senior member of the family that Meghan met. She had no idea what it all consisted of. So it was a bit of a shock to the system for her”, said Harry on the topic.  Meghan explained that she couldn’t get her head around the fact that she would actually have to perform a curtsy and that as an American she didn’t really understand the tradition: “I mean, Americans would understand this. We have Medieval Times, dinner and tournament. It was like that”.  I mean, Americans would understand this. We have Medieval Times, dinner and tournament.

Donnie Wahlberg Bares All For New Ad

Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg appeared naked for the former Playmate’s beauty brand, Formless Beauty. The cosmetic company is releasing a nude collection of lip glosses, which prompted the risqué campaign.  “It was fun to bare it all with my husband for this shoot,” McCarthy shared with People magazine. “I definitely have a thing for chestnuts roasting and large packages adorned with red ribbons.”  Mark Wahlberg’s older brother shared that he was happy to take part in the photo shoot while he was “in shape.”  “I love having fun with Jenny, and she asked me right before ‘in-shape New Kids Donnie’ became a ‘doughnut-eating ’Blue Bloods’ Donnie,’ so the timing was perfect,” he shared.  McCarthy announced the launch of her cosmetics brand last year. Her latest collection of lip glosses builds on the initial release of three shades in 2021 and two others earlier this year.

Pete Davidson Returns To Instagram… With Some Help

Pete Davidson is back on Instagram, but this time it’s alongside former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.  They teamed up posting photos and videos on the gram of the two hanging out inside Davidson’s apartment — which has been decked out in Giants swag.  “Hello Instagram,” Davidson said in a video while laying on his Giants decorated bed. “I have decided to come back, but only with the GOAT.”  Revealing a relaxed and reclined Manning on camera, the football star jokingly said, “What’s up? Your bed is so comfortable,” to which Davidson replied, “Aw, thanks man. We’ve been having a good time on my bed. Stay tuned for more photos on the ‘gram.”  While the Instagram account amassed nearly 10,000 followers as of Thursday morning, the pair have only posted three times to the account.  “We both don’t have Instagram so we made one together,” the account’s bio read.

ABC Investigating T.J. Holmes

T.J. Holmes’ affairs with Amy Robach and other colleagues have put him under the microscope at ABC. Sources say that after the press revealed his relationships with co-anchor Robach, producer Natasha Singh and at least one other staffer, the network’s human resources department is combing through his past to find out if he dated anyone else below him on the totem pole.  “It’s one thing for him to have a relationship with another anchor,” said an insider. “The question is whether he violated company rules by dating less senior employees.”  Meanwhile, a network insider said ABC News chief Kim Godwin seemed to hint at a no-stone-unturned approach to the scandal on Monday, saying in the daily 9 a.m. news call, “For now, I am going to take Amy and T.J. off the air, while we figure this out.”  Until now, ABC has been largely unscathed by scandals about big-shot anchors luring behind-the-scenes staff.  The Sun US has also reported that his relationship with Singh may have broken company rules.  Both rival networks, NBC and CBS, were shellacked during the #MeToo era when titans, such as “Today” host Matt Lauer and “CBS This Morning” host Charlie Rose, were booted for inappropriate behavior with junior staffers.  But this is the first time ABC has suffered a similar crisis.

STUPID NEWS

Name The Snow Plow

As winter gets underway, some states are trying to bring some levity to the cold, dark season by holding a contest that raises awareness of snowplows across the country.  In Minnesota, the popular contest is back for its third year, and in Vermont, state officials are partnering with schools to teach children a few things about how plows work and in return, the Green Mountain State plows get a unique name out of it.  Minnesotans were invited to submit their creative and unique winter names for eight of Minnesota’s Department of Transportation (MnDOT) snowplows — one for each MnDOT district.  MnDOT got the idea for the snowplow-naming contest after reading an article in “Roadshow” about how the country of Scotland names its entire snowplow fleet and posts maps of the plow’s locations for residents to follow, according to the Star Tribune.  Minnesota quickly followed suit and became the first state transportation department in the United States to launch such a contest. Within the first year, the fun campaign gained traction across the state, and more than 24,000 names were submitted.  Last year, out of the more than 22,000 names entered, the top three winners included “Betty Whiteout,” “Ctrl Salt Delete,” and “The Big Leplowski.”
*******Millennials are calling foul!! They want the entire generation of plows to be called “Snowflakes!!”

Google’s Number One Word Search

Google’s annual Year in Search list is a microcosm of all that collectively grabbed people’s attention throughout the year and in 2022 the game Wordle was No. 1.  The word game was popular globally, challenging players to guess a word everyday and giving them the chance to show off their skills on social media. You could not log into a social media app without observing the Wordle prowess of people you are connected with. In fact, it was so popular that it was entered into the search bar more than “Ukraine” or “Queen Elizabeth.”  Wordle started as a prototype in 2013, created by Josh Wardle. It did not immediately take off, but a reworked version of the game made a splash in 2021. Within just a few months it was acquired by the New York Times and is now playable on its website and as a mobile app.  “India vs England” was the second-most searched term, referring to the Twenty20 World Cup in cricket. England defeated India by 10 wickets in the tournament’s semi-final round.  Ukraine was the most searched news subject, due to the ongoing war with Russia. Queen Elizabeth was next, heightened by her death on Sept. 8. “Election results,” “Powerball numbers” and “Monkeypox” rounded out the top five.

Dog Sent Through X-ray Machine

The TSA is reminding passengers of the proper protocol for traveling with pets after a dog accidentally went through a security X-ray at a Wisconsin airport.  TSA Great Lakes revealed in a Twitter post that a small dog was “accidentally sent through the X-ray” when it was left inside a traveler’s carry-on bag at Dane County Regional Airport in Madison.  “When traveling with any animal, notify your airline & know their rules. At the checkpoint, remove your pet from the bag and send all items, including the empty carrier, to be screened in the machine,” the tweet said.  The tweet included the X-ray photo of the dog inside the traveler’s backpack.  TSA representative Jessica Mayle said the dog, a dachshund-chihuahua mix, had been cleared to fly by the airline, but the passenger had been unaware of the correct protocol when taking her pet through the security checkpoint.  “After [the dog] was discovered by the X-ray operator, the officer explained the proper process to the passenger and confirmed she had disclosed she was traveling with the pet to the airline,” Mayle said in an email to USA Today.  See the pic HERE.
*********They also beat the passenger with metal batons and sent her to a federal prison to be held in solitary!!

Missing Bull Sperm

Police in western Germany are appealing for help in cracking a potentially very cold case.  Authorities say about 60 containers of bull sperm were stolen from a farm in the town of Olfen, 90 kilometers (56 miles) northeast of Cologne, late Monday or early Tuesday.  Police said in a statement Wednesday that while it’s unclear how the rustle happened, the precious cargo needs to be supercooled with liquid nitrogen at –196 Celsius degrees (–320 Fahrenheit) so it isn’t spoiled.  They are seeking tips from the public that might lead to the recovery of the sperm, which was intended for artificial insemination.

The Holiday Tasks That Are Secretly Depleting You

HUFFINGTON POST

Shopping for gifts adds to your mental load.

According to Sagaram, gifts take a big toll on your mental load during the holiday season. Whether you’re figuring out what to get your kids for Christmas (and hiding and wrapping the presents, if they believe in Santa Claus), deciding what to buy for your parents or picking out a gift for a work exchange, it’s exhausting to do the shopping, the planning, the wrapping and the actual gift giving.  “I think the holiday season itself brings on a lot of stress because people are trying to figure out what gifts they can give to people or how to be thoughtful,” Sagaram said. “And there’s a lot of thought process that goes behind that.”  She added that for the person carrying the mental load in a household, this task can feel pretty isolating, too, as you figure out how to make this holiday magic happen.

Arranging holiday travel.

If you’re someone who travels to family gatherings, the seemingly simple act of planning transportation adds to your mental load, according to Sagaram. Mapping out how you’re going to get somewhere and when you’re going to leave requires research and lots of thought.  Not to mention there’s also the preparation: You have to pack your bags, pack up gifts, organize any tickets that are necessary for travel or make sure the car is in tiptop shape for a drive — it’s a lot to think about. And for the person carrying the mental load, it falls on them to make sure this is all handled.

Keeping track of increased social engagements.

The most festive time of the year is a time when holiday parties run rampant, adding more to keep track of for the person who carries the mental load.  Trine noted that it’s a time when your schedule probably looks pretty different than normal, so there are more social events to manage. This could involve dropping your kids off at holiday events or keeping track of the different dress codes for upcoming events.  You’ll deal with even more stress if you carry the mental load in your household and are hosting a holiday engagement, not just attending one.

In general, you’ll be asked to do more and more during the holidays, too.

Trine noted that if you’re a part of an organization like a volunteer community or a neighborhood sports league (or if your child or partner is part of a group), you’ll likely be met with more tasks around the holiday season, too. This further adds to the mental load.  “It’s a time of year when a lot of people ask for help and people feel obligated” to help out, Trine said.  This could mean helping out with a cookie drive, donating money to an organization or hosting a holiday brunch for your group. While all are worthwhile, when you already feel like you can’t handle more, it can be hard to take on this added responsibility.

And you may have to deal with uncomfortable family or friend dynamics.

Since your connection with loved ones is purely built on relationships, it falls into the category of emotional labor, which is a very real stressor for many people throughout the season (and all year).  According to Michele Tugade, professor of Psychological Science on the William R. Kenan, Jr. Chair at Vassar College, “holiday celebrations that require bringing families and friends together,” are a major contributor to emotional labor. So, all of those Christmas dinner parties or cookie-making events can take a toll.  The holiday season is a time of heightened social connection, which Tugade said can lead to emotional fatigue at work and feelings of burnout. What’s more, it can lead to problems that make it hard to enjoy the season.  “Too much emotional labor is costly to an individual. Research shows that it is related to greater levels of depression and anxiety, and heightened burnout,” Tugade said.

This can be especially true if you’re the one who everyone turns to when there’s family drama. You may feel like you need to problem-solve or manage other people’s emotions, so, by the time you’re finished helping someone else, you’re too exhausted to be present at the family gathering, Sagaram added.

People in the service industry likely deal with even more emotional labor.

Dealing with unhappy (and often rude) customers is an unfortunate reality for folks in the service industry. During the holiday shopping and dining season, it’s likely that they’ll be dealing with this more often.  In this sense, Tugade described emotional labor as “a type of performance, in a way, like ‘keeping your cool’ in the midst of escalating stress so as to get the job done.”

So, for example, a flight attendant facing a difficult customer during a busy holiday travel day may just have to smile and move on instead of showing their true emotions. “It can be cognitively and emotionally exhausting to continuously exert emotional labor,” Tugade added.

Remember that this is on top of all of your other daily tasks.

The person who carries the mental load doesn’t just get a break from their other tasks when the holiday season starts, and the same goes for people who have to listen to emotion-driven family or friend issues.

Instead, these issues build on the additional tasks and stressors that come with the holiday season, according to Sagaram.

So, if you’re the person who regularly refills the toiletries, you will probably still be that person as you also shop for holiday gifts, which further adds to the stress of the season.

To help with these feelings, take time for yourself throughout the month.

“I think we can tend to put ourselves aside more during this time,” Trine said. If you feel yourself getting overwhelmed, set some boundaries (like say no to a Christmas party you don’t want to go to) or let yourself be 10 minutes late for a social engagement if you need that extra 10 minutes just to breathe.

“Those are good things to have in your back pocket as you’re balancing the increase of mental load and emotional [labor] that comes along with the holidays,” she said.

If you carry the mental load, delegate some tasks this holiday season.

It’s not a good feeling to realize you’re the one who carries the mental load (especially as we head full-steam ahead into the holidays). But, Sagaram said you can talk to your partner to help alleviate some of the holiday mental load stress.

“If you are in a relationship, it’s really helpful to sit down with your partner and literally write out all of the tasks that need to get done,” she said.

She recommends that you create two separate lists — one for daily living and one specifically for the holiday season. Then, delegate tasks to your partner that they need to take on this holiday season.  Sagaram added that you should give your partner tasks (and you should take on tasks) that they’ll actually do, so you don’t have to spend time reminding them to complete their to-do list. It’s also important to actually give up the tasks you delegate (so, don’t check in over and over again) ― and it’s important for your partner to take them on fully.
