Ellen Show Staff Happy Bad News Got Out

Following recent negative stories about Ellen DeGeneres and the allegedly toxic work environment on her daytime talk show, her staff is reportedly thrilled that people are finally paying attention.  A source connected with the production of the show spoke with Us Weekly to note how the attention has affected staff members now that their grievances with the host and producers are finally being heard.   “They’ve been calling and texting each other about the story,” the source revealed. “They’re loving that the truth — which has been an open secret for years in the industry — is finally receiving more interest.”  Meanwhile, brand expert Eric Schiffer told Fox News that DeGeneres, the face of the show, should ultimately be held accountable.  Back in April, Variety interviewed staff members on anonymity who claimed the show failed to communicate the status of their jobs and pay amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Alex Trebek Clarifies Treatment Comments

Alex Trebek’s memoir came out Tuesday, but the “Jeopardy!” host already has an update about his health.  In “The Answer Is … Reflections on My Life,” the 80-year-old host, who is currently battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer, wrote that he would stop treatment if it wasn’t working.  “I’m going to stick with this current protocol, then that’s it. If it doesn’t work I’ll probably stop treatment,” he wrote.  But on Wednesday, he posted a statement on Twitter clarifying his words.  “That quote from the book was written BEFORE my current regimen, and I was going through some bad times,” Trebek wrote.  He explained that his current numbers are “very good,” but if that changes, he would resume chemotherapy rather than stopping all treatment.  “I apologize for any confusion, and want everyone to know that I am optimistic about my current plan, and thank them for their concern,” he concluded.

Prince Harry Is Not The Smart One

Prince Harry is a dimwit compared to his wife Meghan Markle — at least that’s what royal scribe Lady Colin Campbell thinks.  Campbell, who is publicizing her latest tome “Meghan and Harry: The Real Story” made the shocking claim while speaking to new! magazine (via the Daily Mail).  “In my opinion, Harry is a much less intelligent character than Meghan is,” she said. “And I think he’s so desperate to please her and go along with whatever she says, no matter how ill-conceived it is. He is that besotted with her.”  She also claimed the couple has “a very strong relationship” but Meghan is the dominant partner because Harry is “besotted with her.”  He struggled academically as a youngster. He spent an extra year at Ludgrove to improve his grades before applying to Eton.  He graduated from Eton College with two A- Levels, a B in art and a D in geography. One of his former teachers alleged that he was a “weak student” and that staff at the prestigious school had conspired to help him cheat on exams.
*******Something tells us Lady Campbell won’t be invited to Meghan and Harry’s anytime soon!!
****Meghan’s in control?? “That’s shocking!!” Said nobody.

Vanilla Ice Biopic In The Works

Dave Franco confirmed he will portray Vanilla Ice in an upcoming biopic that puts a “Disaster Artist”-like spin on the story of the rapper.  The film “To the Extreme” was originally revealed via casting notice in January 2019, but the biopic has not yet started production. However, Franco spoke for the first time about playing Vanilla Ice in an interview with Insider.  Franco likened the tone of “To the Extreme” to that of “The Disaster Artist,” a film directed by his brother James Franco and starring the Franco brothers as the duo responsible for the beloved terrible movie “The Room.”  “With [‘The Disaster Artist’], people expected us to make a broad comedy where we make fun of [‘The Room ‘director] Tommy Wiseau, but the more real we played it, the funnier and heartfelt it was — that’s the tone we want for this one as well,” Franco told Insider.  The film — named after Rob “Vanilla Ice” Van Winkle’s 1990 debut album — is currently in preproduction due to the pandemic, with Franco saying he regularly calls the rapper. “Rob is such a sweet and intelligent guy and he’s been super helpful in the process of getting all the details correct and making us privy to information the public doesn’t know,” Franco said. “Just talking to him I can’t help but think about the rabbit holes I’m going to go down to get ready for the role.”
******Can Dave dance??? Because Rob can’t!!
*****Vanilla Ice is the first guy to have a #1 rap tune on the chart.. and that really pisses off Snoop Dogg!!

Red Panda Escapes

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio said personnel are searching the grounds and surrounding area for a red panda that apparently escaped from her enclosure.  The zoo said the 2-year-old female red panda, Kora, was confirmed to be in her habitat Tuesday night, but was discovered missing Wednesday. Officials speculated the storms Tuesday night and Wednesday morning may have caused tree branches to bend, giving Kora a route for escape.  The other animals in the Asia Quest area of the zoo have been temporarily moved from their habitats to an indoor area to allow zookeepers to conduct an extensive search for the missing animal.  Officials said Kora does not pose a danger to the public.

Tourist Are Too Fat In Venice

The city of Venice, Italy, is reducing the maximum capacity of its gondolas from six people to five, but the reason isn’t related to COVID-19 — it’s an issue of tourists’ weight.  Andrea Balbi, the president of Venice’s Gondola Association, which oversees the city’s 433 licensed gondoliers and 180 substitutes, said the decision was made to reduce the capacity of the boats to ease the strain on the boatmen who propel them.  “Over the last 10 years or so, tourists weigh more — and rather than having them step on a scale before they get on, we are limiting the number,” Balbi told CNN.  Babi said capacity on the larger “da parada” gondolas, which mainly serve to ferry people across the grand canal, is also being reduced from 14 to 12.  Raoul Roveratto, president of the association of substitute gondoliers, said the weight of passengers can sometimes cause the boats to take on water.

Orange Lobster Looking For Home

A New Jersey grocery store is trying to find a new home for a rare orange lobster to make sure it doesn’t end up on a dinner plate.  Employees at the Stop & Shop store in Toms River said they noticed one of the lobsters in a recent shipment had an orange coloration similar to that of its cooked brethren, but was still alive and well.  The grocery chain said the lobster is not for sale and officials are trying to find a suitable home for the rare crustacean. A spokeswoman said the store has been in contact with Rutgers’ Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources about potentially taking the lobster.  Experts said the lobster’s color is extremely uncommon, but exactly how rare is unclear.  “Unofficial estimates are in the range of one in a million, although I have not seen a scientific assessment of the actual proportion they comprise of the wild population,” Rick Wahle, the director of Lobster Institute at the University of Maine said.

Garage Gets Cut In Half Over Dispute

A man in Maine, feuding with his neighbors, hired a surveyor to mark the lines of his property. When he discovered that the neighbor’s garage partly occupied his property, he took a saw and cut the garage in half.  Dover-Foxcroft resident Gabriel Brawn posted photos of his work with a saw on social media with a no-apologies caption.  “Yes, this happened,” Brawn posted over the weekend on Facebook. “Those of you who know the ‘Other Guy’ will understand. If you’re offended by this, I care very little.”  Brawn, who is a construction worker, cleanly cut the building. Another photo shows the backside of the garage where he cut through the wall and siding material.  So, why did he do it?  Brawn’s wife, Tracy Brawn, says he took a saw to the neighbor’s garage in a dispute over the property boundary line after the previous owner died and his wife took ownership, the Bangor Daily News reported.  “When the dad was alive this was a perfect place to live,” Brawn told the newspaper. “As soon as that poor man passed away this place turned to craziness and chaos.”  After years of disagreement, two land surveyors confirmed the property line exists directly through the middle of the garage and the cutting began, the Bangor Daily News reported.  Dover-Foxcroft Police Chief Ryan Reardon says no criminal charges are filed in the property dispute, WABI reported.  A new fence now stands along the property line, partially blocking the Brawns’ view of the garage.
*******Wouldn’t a “cutting remark” be easier???
*****It’s gone from a one-car garage to a half-car garage!!

A LIST FOR FRIDAY

You Can Still Burn Out While Working From Home. These Are The Signs.

Huffington Post

What actually is burnout?

Last year, burnout was classified by the World Health Organization as an “occupational phenomenon,” legitimizing the experiences of many who’ve fallen prey to the problem, also know as vital

“Burnout is a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed,” said WHO. It’s characterized by three factors: feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion, increased mental distance or negativity surrounding your job, and reduced productivity.

Left unchecked, it can cause physical problems too. One study linked the issue to atrial fibrillation – an irregular heartbeat – which is a major cause of stroke.

So what are the signs of burnout at home?

When working from home, feelings of burnout might be slightly different to what we experience while commuting and traveling for work, suggests Fuller. “We can experience a burnout that has less physical symptoms but manifests as more of a mental fuzziness,” she says.

Those experiencing burnout at home might feel tired, confused and become forgetful. Other signs include frustration, anger and sadness.

Burnout is different for everyone, so it’s important to check in with how you’re feeling and be aware if your feelings or behavior change. If you do notice a change, don’t ignore it.

Can I prevent it?

Making changes in your work-life routine to prevent burnout is important because, as Fuller points out, when our mood starts to dip, it can be even harder to climb out of our low state of mind.

Taking holiday is a good place to start – especially if you feel like the last few months have been a stressful blur. “Many people have taken their holiday leave, even though they have nowhere to go,” says Fuller. “This might sound mad and a waste of holiday leave but it makes good sense in terms of taking a break and doing something different for a few days away from the pressures of work.”

If you can’t take annual leave, try to separate your work life from your home life as much as you can. Karahassan recommends setting boundaries as soon as possible. “Have a separate place for work, rest, discussion,” he says. “It can be as easy as having a corner of the room which is just for your work.”

“Something that helped me is having a table for me to sit and do my work rather than the laptop on my legs,” he says. “It’s about making those small changes that go a long way as you are able create a work-life balance.”

Set boundaries with the people around you, too. Make clear what times you’ll be working and when you can spend time with them – and stick to that routine.

You might also want to think about how to create commute-type divides into your working day. “In normal circumstances we have a natural divide, which is your commute, but we now have to create our own transition,” says Fuller. “This might be doing exercise, putting music on that you love or taking a bath.

“Whatever it is, use the activity to shake off your day and draw a line under your work to move into your leisure time.”

What can I do if I feel burnt out already?

First of all, stop and tell yourself you’re doing a great job and take a break outside of your home environment, suggests Karahassan. “Go for a walk, sit on a bench alone. If you can’t go out, go in the shower, wash your face, just do something for you. That five or 10-minute break can give you the space to reset and take control of your thoughts and feelings,” he says.

“Turn off your work screen and indulge yourself in something that brings you joy,” adds Fuller. “You won’t regret it.”

Avoid unhealthy vices like smoking and drinking and instead try to do things for your mental wellbeing – do some exercise, connect with loved ones, prioritize self-care, sign up to volunteer, and try to work smarter (not harder).

Practicing mindfulness can help you live in the moment rather than thinking about the endless Zoom meetings you’ve got coming up. And practicing gratitude can promote feelings of positivity – write down three things that went well today, or for which you’re grateful.

Breathing exercises are useful when things feel too much, so take five minutes out of your day, sit comfortably somewhere, and focus on your breath. There are a number of deep breathing apps you can download on your phone to help guide you, or you can find some helpful breathing exercises here.

And if none of this helps and your stress is causing you distress, speak to your GP who can offer psychological support.
