Johnny Depp’s Popularity Drops
Johnny Depp’s popularity decreased during his highly publicized defamation trial against Amber Heard, a Morning Consult poll published Wednesday found, despite what seemed to be a growing stronghold of support for the actor on social media as the lawsuit played out. From April 8-10, before the trial began, to June 4-5, days after the verdict was decided, the amount of U.S. adults who viewed Depp as somewhat or very favorably dropped to 56% from 68%. Baby boomer opinion of Depp worsened the most of any age group, with the amount of respondents who viewed him unfavorably dropping to 37% from 59%. Some 26% of men viewed Depp as unfavorable in June, compared to 17% who saw him that way in April. Millennials viewed Depp favorably more than any other generation, with 72% viewing him that way in June, down from 78% in April. Gen Z’s opinion of Depp was the most unchanged throughout the trial—those who viewed Depp favorably dropped only 2% to 70% from April to June. 20.4 billion. Halsey is feeling “heartbroken” after cancelling a show on their Love and Power tour. She was unable to perform Wednesday at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md., due to heavy rains and flooding. “Maryland I don’t even know what to say. If you missed my life, I’ll post something soon explaining what happened. But right now I’m heartbroken and panicked and I just want to know when/that you all get home safely. I love you guys more than anything,” Halsey tweeted. Fan videos showed concertgoers waiting in a venue flooded with water, which caused rodents to emerge. The show was initially delayed and finally canceled at 10 p.m. EDT, three hours after its planned start time. “I promise I wanted to more than anything. A “furious” Prince Harry will likely want “an apology” amid reports he was royally snubbed by Queen Elizabeth II and company at last week’s Platinum Jubilee, according to self-proclaimed royal expert Angela Levin. “I think he would have been very, very upset that he was largely ignored,” the noted Prince Harry and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall biographer told the Sun. “He still feels he’s owed an apology.” Offering her hot take on “self-destructive” Harry’s demeanor at the Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral last Friday, the royal analyst said: “The thing that really stood out for me on that day was Harry’s anger — he wears his emotions on his face and he looked absolutely furious.”

Prosecutors Want More Prison Time For R Kelly
Federal prosecutors want convicted sex offender R. Kelly to sit in prison for more than 25 years, according to a Thursday legal filing. Kelly, who is scheduled to be sentenced June 29, was found guilty last September of sexually abusing women, boys and girls for decades. He was convicted of all nine counts against him in the sex trafficking trial. “In light of the seriousness of the offenses, the need for specific deterrence and the need to protect the public from further crimes of the defendant … the government respectfully submits that a sentence in excess of 25 years is warranted,” the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York wrote to the judge on the case. The US Attorney’s Office blasted him for “relying on his fame, money and popularity as an R&B recording star… to both carry and conceal his crimes” as he got immense help from his large network of associates. “He continued his crimes and avoided punishment for them for almost 30 years and must now be held to account.”

Chris Pratt Describes Prank Gone Wrong
“Jurassic World: Dominion” star Chris Pratt revealed how an attempt to bury himself alive for a prank went hilariously awry during his appearance Wednesday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “I s–t my pants — that’s how committed I was,” Pratt exclaimed while telling host Kimmel about how he tried to pull a stunt on the cast and crew while filming his new series “The Terminal List,” which premieres July on Amazon Prime. He set the scene: “There’s one scene where my character James Reece gets caught in a mudslide and so to get the shot the last thing we did was me essentially getting buried alive.” Pratt explained, “So I’m laying on about a 45-degree angle, buried up to my head in dirt and what they’re going to do is cover me with dirt. I’m breathing through a straw and they use an excavator to dump another big bucket full of dirt on top of me in the shot and I’m supposed to crawl out.” That’s when he decided to freak out his co-workers by pretending he was really in trouble. “I thought it’d be funny if I just don’t move for about 30 seconds,” he said. However, Pratt’s stunt unfortunately fell face down in the dirt after he discovered he “actually couldn’t move” his body — for real. “I could only move my right hand,” Pratt said of his accidental method acting. “Took a minute and a half and I finally get out and I cough up dirt.” While the prank didn’t go according to plan, the crew reportedly praised him on what they believed was simply a hyperrealistic performance, describing the take as the “best acting” they’d ever seen him do, according to Pratt.

Zebras Spotted Near Santa Barbara
Travelers in the Santa Barbara, Calif., area have reported unusual encounters in recent days with a non-native animal: a zebra. Marcos Chavez said he was on a bike ride Sunday in the mountains above Santa Barbara when he encountered a zebra blocking traffic on West Camino Cielo. He said the zebra appeared to be trying to follow as he rode away. “I jumped on my bike and started pedaling super fast,” Chavez told Noozhawk. “He took a three steps, but then the zebra slipped and fell.” Cliff Baldridge posted a photo to Facebook one day before Chavez’s encounter that appears to show the same zebra grazing next to a road in the Santa Barbara area. Another sighting was reported May 5th. Locals suggested the animal causing the sightings is likely a locally known zebra named Maynard. The zebra, who belongs to a local resident, was caught on camera during previous walkabouts in 2013, 2015 and 2021. The zebra is domesticated, but known to be free-roaming, locals said.

Don’t Take “Selfies” With The Moose!
Police in a Colorado town are pleading with the public to “stop trying to take selfies” with a moose on the loose in the area. The Erie Police Department posted a short video to Facebook showing the moose that wandered into town walking down a road with a police escort. Police said Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials are making plans to relocate the massive animal. “Please keep a safe distance (further than you would think is safe) if you encounter the moose,” the Facebook post said. “Please, please, please stop trying to take selfies with wildlife.” The department also asked members of the public to keep their dogs leashed so as not to frighten the moose. “Ideally, the moose will bed down for the evening which will allow Colorado Parks and Wildlife to do what they do best,” the post said.

A drinker in Wales broke a Guinness World Record by visiting 56 different pubs in 24 hours and having at least one beverage at each. Guinness announced Gareth Murphy, 29, of Caernarfon, drank at 56 Cardiff pubs in 24 hours on Feb. 5, breaking the record of 51 pubs set by Englishman Matt Ellis in 2021. The record-keeping organization’s rules required Murphy to have a drink at each pub, but the beverages were not required to be alcoholic. Murphy said he did have some beer during his attempt, but his drinks also included orange juice, apple juice, Coca-Cola, lemonade, Diet Pepsi and cranberry juice. “I knew I had to stay off the Guinness as it’s quite a heavy drink. I did have a beer in a few select pubs, but I knew I couldn’t overdo it as I knew the fizz would immediately make me bloated,” Murphy told Guinness World Records. He said the record attempt led to an increasing number of bathroom breaks over the course of the day.

Florida Man Thought Alligator Was A Dog
A Florida man was bitten by an alligator he thought was a dog while outside of a motel Tuesday morning, reports say. The man was walking outside at Warm Mineral Springs Motel in North Port when he saw a dark figure moving along the bushes, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office told WFLA. He thought it was a dog on a long leash and didn’t move out the way, then the alligator bit his leg and ripped out a piece of his muscle tissue. According to WWSB, the man found a deputy responding to a nearby call who called emergency personnel to take the man to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. In a statement viewed by NBC News, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s spokesman Douglas Johnson said a sheriff’s sergeant caught the gator and held it for a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission trapper.

How To Get Into Airport Lounges Without Spending A Ton Of Money

Get a travel credit card
“Certain premium credit cards can get you into the lounge, with no requirement to pay for an annual lounge membership,” Griff said. “American Express has a collection of lounges, some branded as Centurion Lounges, and others as affiliates, such as the Escape Lounge network and Delta Sky Clubs, that allow travelers access into these spaces with no additional payment.”
Many travelers opt for airline-branded credit cards, which offer complimentary or discounted access to those specific airlines’ lounges (in addition to other benefits like extra miles). The Alaska Airlines Visa Signature credit card and various Delta SkyMiles cards are popular examples. Still others, as Griff noted, prefer non-airline-specific travel reward cards that grant access to additional lounge options, like Centurion Lounges.
“I am an owner of the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card, which gives me a complimentary Priority Pass Select membership, giving me access to over 1,300 airport lounges around the world,” said travel blogger Sean Lau.
The American Express Platinum Card is another popular choice for travelers, as it includes access to more than 1,400 lounge properties, including Centurion Lounges, Priority Pass Lounges and Delta Sky Clubs (when flying Delta). The Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card also includes Priority Pass access, but it’s limited to 10 complimentary visits.
“The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card offers unlimited access to all-inclusive amenities at the Capital One Lounge and at 1,300+ Priority Pass lounges worldwide,” noted budgeting expert Andrea Woroch. “And the Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard includes an Admirals Club membership for you and access for up to two guests or immediate family members traveling with you.”
To determine the best travel reward card for you, review the various benefits you’ll get in addition to lounge access. Keep in mind these cards tend to come with pretty hefty annual fees, so you’ll want to take those into account as well.
“I can justify the cost because I get the maximum value from my American Express Platinum Card,” said Phil Dengler, co-founder of The Vacationer. “While its $695 annual fee is high, the lounge access, 5x points earned on flights, $200 yearly Uber Cash, and a variety of other travel-related credits more than cover the cost.”
Purchase a one-time pass
Many airlines offer one-day passes for their lounges. You just have to be traveling with that particular airline and willing to pay a fee.
“Note that these are subject to capacity restrictions and can creep up to $100 or more,” Griff said.
Still, it’s worth weighing the costs and benefits when you’re dealing with a long layover or big delay, especially if you’re planning to eat during that time. You also may find very reasonable prices depending on the airport.
“While outside of America, I have found the lounges to be super low cost for daily use,” said Ravi Roth, host of “The Gaycation Travel Show.” “In my most recent layover in Nairobi, Kenya, the lounge at Jomo Kenyatta Airport was only $30 for the day. That is the cost of a sandwich, snack, and drink. To me, that is a win!”
You can also find discounted passes to airport lounges on websites like Groupon.
To purchase a one-time pass, however, your best bet is going directly to the lounge and inquiring at the check-in desk. Not all lounges offer single-visit passes, and some might temporarily restrict them to prevent overcrowding. So if you go straight to the source, you won’t waste your money paying for access but being unable to enter due to capacity restrictions.
Go as a guest
Another way to get into an airport lounge without shelling out the big bucks is to travel with someone who has access.
“My favorite lounge is The Centurion Lounge by American Express. My American Express Platinum Card gives me and two guests complimentary access to the entire collection of Centurion Lounges in the United States and around the world,” Dengler said.
Qualifying AmEx cardholders can bring two guests into the Centurion Lounge (at least until Feb. 1, 2023, when those who spend less than $75,000 in card purchases annually will be charged $50 per guest). Travelers with access to other types of lounges ― like airline-specific clubs or Priority Pass lounges ― can often bring immediate family or other guests free of charge or at least for a lower price.
Guest guidelines can vary depending on the type of lounge, capacity and reason for access (credit cards versus paid memberships, etc.). Research the rules and don’t assume you can waltz into any lounge with your friend who has access.
If they can get you in for free, however, it’s a win-win. You get to enjoy the amenities, and they get to feel more justified in their membership or credit card choice.
“Each year, I would estimate I get over $1,000 in value from the free food and drinks at Centurion Lounges for my guests and myself,” Dengler noted.
Use LoungeBuddy
“Consider using LoungeBuddy, a booking service that allows you to purchase lounge access regardless of your ticket class or elite status,” said Stephanie Be, a travel blogger and founder of the travel website Buena.
Downloading the LoungeBuddy app is a free and easy way to see which lounges are available to you on a given day.
“You can input any criteria that could possibly allow you airport access such as being a certain credit card holder, a loyalty member of a relevant program, being on active duty in the U.S. military, or if you have airline status that would allow you airport lounge access,” said travel blogger Esther Susag. “Then, you can input your flight and it will pull up any lounges that you would have access to, plus any that you can pay to use out of pocket. ”
Although you often still have to pay to get into the lounge, LoungeBuddy can help you compare your options and streamline the process.
Request complimentary access
Sure, lounges have specific guidelines that limit admission to paying members, travelers flying in premium cabins, holders of certain credit cards and those who meet other criteria. But certain circumstances can open up access to others.
“If you are experiencing major travel delays and stuck at an airport due to aircraft or crew issues, ask customer service if they can give you complimentary access to the lounge while you wait,” Woroch suggested. “It doesn’t hurt to ask!”
However you gain entry into an airport lounge, try to stay informed about the various rules and amenities.
“If you are thinking about utilizing lounge access, definitely do your research before because there are different types of airport lounges with different access specifications,” Susag said. “Some limit the number of uses per year, while others are unlimited. Also, if you are going to use an airport lounge, make sure you get to the airport early enough to actually enjoy it!”
