Nick Cannon Talk Show Cancelled

Nick Cannon’s talk show has been canceled after one season.  Variety reported the show won’t return for a second season.  Sources said staffers at the show were informed Thursday that production would shut down at the end of the day. Pre-taped original episodes will continue to air into May.  The staff was initially told the show would be going on a five-week hiatus.  Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein, the co-presidents of Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury, which produces and distributes Nick Cannon, said the decision to end the talk show was “difficult.”  “It’s never easy to cancel a production with clear potential but, after a great deal of deliberation and examining various options, we have made the difficult business decision to end production on Nick Cannon,” the pair said.  “Our thanks go to the very talented Nick Cannon and our wonderful production team, and we wish Nick continued success with his many hit ventures,” they added.

Elon Musk Has Another Baby

Grimes, the 33-year-old recording artist and her partner, Tesla and Space X founder Elon Musk, secretly welcomed their second child, Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, via surrogate.  She shared the news in the April issue of Vanity Fair. She said Exa is a reference to the supercomputing term exaFLOPS, while Dark references “the unknown.”  “People fear it but truly it’s the absence of photons,” Grimes said. “Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe.”  Sideræl, meanwhile, is “a more elven spelling” of “sidereal,” or “the true time of the universe, star time, deep space time, not our relative earth time,” and a nod to the Lord of the Rings character Galadriel.  Grimes and Musk call their daughter “Y.” The couple also have a son, X Æ A-Xii, or X, born in May 2020.

Wizard of Oz Oil Can Up For Auction

The Tin Man’s oil can from the 1939 film the “Wizard Of Oz” is being sold for $200,000.  Kruse GWS Auctions is holding the sale and noted on the product description page that film historians say this is one of five oil cans used during filming, while other experts say there were three.  The container can be seen at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.  The can is currently on loan to the museum through November 2022.  According to the auction house, the museum was also interested in letting the winning bidder keep the golden prop at the gallery after the loan agreement is satisfied in November.  The item will come with a redacted copy of the loan agreement for the Academy Museum as well as an insurance appraisal of $1 million.

Kanye West Goes After Pete Davidson Again

An animated version of Pete Davidson finds himself getting attacked yet again in a second music video for Kanye West’s song “Eazy.” This time, however, a skinned monkey does the dirty work.  As West raps the line, “God saved me from that crash / Just so I can beat Pete Davidson’s ass,” the bloodied monkey beats a blurred-out Davidson — who wears a hoodie with “Skete,” West’s nickname for the comic — to the ground.  It’s the same skinned monkey that appeared on the cover art for “Eazy.”  In the first video for the track, released earlier this month, West kidnapped and buried alive a Claymation version of him.  “EVERYONE LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER, EXCEPT SKETE YOU KNOW WHO. JK, HE’S FINE,” read the final frame, with the word “SKETE” scratched out. Pete nor his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, has responded to the audio-visual threats.
********He’s making Pete Davidson a huge star!! Hey, maybe they’re ALL in this together!!

Prince Charles Has A Photo Of Meghan At His House

Prince Charles has a photo of himself walking daughter-in-law Meghan Markle down the aisle during her wedding to his son, Prince Harry, on display at Clarence House.  Fans noticed the photo on display Tuesday as Charles’ wife Camilla Parker Bowles hosted an International Women’s Day event.  Female rowers Kat Cordiner, Charlotte Irving, Abby Johnston were invited to meet with the Duchess of Cornwall after crossing the Atlantic in 42 days, arriving in Antigua in January. The trio, who were joined by former rower, Tim Christian, beat the previous record by seven days.  Among the framed photographs on the side table was a gorgeous, black-and-white pic of Markle — whose own father did not attend the wedding — with her father-in-law as he escorted her down the aisle of St George’s Chapel in Windsor.  Some of the other frames held photos of the family at Prince Louis’ christening in 2018, his big brother Prince George at his christening in 2013, and even Prince Harry at the Invictus Games, which he founded in 2014.
*******At least, we THINK it was Meghan! That face has a big red “X” though it!!!

Five-Legged Lamb

The owners of a British farm said they were shocked when a lamb was born recently with a fifth leg sticking out of its side.  Heather Hogarty, part-owner of Whitehouse Farm in the Morpeth, Northumberland, area, said the five-legged lamb was born as part of a set of triplets on Feb. 22, and the animal appears to be in good health.  “It is unusual, but animals having something a bit different does happen — we get many animals born with disabilities, but you don’t see them as often as sadly they get put down,” Hogarty told Chronicle Live.  Extra limbs are believed to occur in about one out of every 1 million lamb births, but Hogarty said the lamb is actually the second to be born with a fifth leg at the farm.  Quinto, a sheep born about a decade before the new arrival, had an extra leg in the center of her body.  The limb had to be removed, but Quinto went on to have a long and healthy life, Hogarty said.

Longest Car

A restored version of the world’s longest car broke its own Guinness World Record when it was officially measured at 100 feet and 1.5 inches long.  Guinness World Records said the super limousine known as the American Dream was originally built in 1986 by car customizer Jay Ohrberg and measured 60 feet long.  Ohrberg later extended the vehicle to 100 feet long, capturing the record for the longest car.  The vehicle made numerous appearances in film before eventually ending up in a New Jersey warehouse, where it sat for several years.  Michael Manning, owner of the Autoseum technical teaching museum in Nassau County, N.Y., decided to take on the monumental task of restoring the American Dream, which had rusted during its time in storage to the point where many of its components were unsalvageable.  “I first found the car at an autobody show in New Jersey and it was garbage. It was covered in graffiti, the windows were broken, the tires were flat, but I fell in love with it anyway. I said, ‘I’m going to get this car and I’m going to bring it back and restore it,'” Manning said.  See the video HERE.

Man Tries To Smuggle Lizard and Snakes In His Pants!

A man who tried to slither past U.S. border agents in California had 52 lizards and snakes hidden in his clothing, authorities said Tuesday.  The man was driving a truck when he arrived at the San Ysidro border crossing with Mexico on Feb. 25 and was pulled out for additional inspection, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement.  Agents found 52 live reptiles tied up in small bags “which were concealed in the man’s jacket, pants pockets, and groin area,” the statement said. Nine snakes and 43 horned lizards were seized. Some of the species are considered endangered, authorities said.  “Smugglers will try every possible way to try and get their product, or in this case live reptiles, across the border,” said Sidney Aki, Customs and Border Protection director of field operations in San Diego.
*******Did he have to “drain” the lizards during his trip??

Rare Pokemon Card Sells Big

A rare, first-edition Pokemon card that had been expected to sell for $200,000 ended up fetching a high bid of $336,000 in an auction.  Heritage Auctions said the Pokemon Trading Card Game Charizard No. 4 First Edition Base Set Trading Card is a highly sought item among collectors due to its being from the first English-language run of Pokemon cards.  The card sold in the auction is one of only 121 known examples to have received a perfect 10 rating from inspectors.  Heritage Auctions said the card sold for $336,000, making it the most expensive Pokemon card ever sold by the auction house. The previous record was $300,000.  A 1998 Pikachu “Illustrator” Holo promo card previously made headlines in late February when it fetched a $900,000 bid in an auction organized by Goldin. The sum is believed to be the highest price ever paid for a Pokemon card.

Signs Of A Toxic Workplace You Can Spot Before You Apply For A Job

HUFFINGTON POST

  1. People who work there are quick to trash colleagues and share concerning anecdotes.

Mary Abbajay, president of the leadership development consultancy Careerstone Group, suggests reaching out to past or current employees through your personal network or by cold-contacting them on LinkedIn. “Getting firsthand inside scoop on the company is the best way” to spot red flags, she said.

In these conversations, you don’t need to come right out and say you’re trying to figure out if the job will be toxic. Abbajay suggested simply saying: “I’m thinking about applying for a job at so-and-so. I would love to get your insights into the culture of the company.”

If someone is willing to share, ask them what are the hours are like, what the leadership is like, if people seem happy to work there and whatever other concerns you have. To suss out toxicity, listen for signs that people are treated less than humanely.  “Is leadership condescending or is leadership supportive? Do they make [them] feel less than competent? Do they rule with an iron fist where everyone has to walk in lockstep?” Abbajay said. “Those things that dehumanize us or make it hard to bring your full self to work, those can be toxic.”

Ideally, you would talk to more than one employee to get a more holistic sense of the culture, Abbajay said. That’s why she suggests making one of your questions “Is there anyone else I should talk to?”

Jocelyn Lai, global head of talent acquisition at Duolingo, said it can be eye-opening to see how willing employees are to speak critically of their leadership to an outsider.  “If you have people who are OK with badmouthing leadership, that is probably a sign of the culture,” she said. “There are some people who can be critical of the organization, but it’s not finger-pointing. And that probably gives you a signal of shared responsibility when there’s a fail.”

  1. There’s a pattern of bad reviews that mention a troubled culture.

Outside of talking to people directly, reading about an organization on job review sites like Glassdoor can give you a clue as to what keeps employees at the company ― and what drives them away.

“If it’s too much work, that’s one thing. If it’s bosses that scream and yell, that’s another,” Abbajay said. “If you see recurring themes, then that is something to really pay attention to.”

Keep in mind that you should take reviews with a grain of salt, as one person’s tirade may not be representative of what it’s like to work at a company. And “if they don’t really say anything, they just give it one star, that is not going to help you,” Abbajay said.  But consistent mentions of bad managers or inhumane treatment are something to watch out for.

  1. There’s video proof of leadership behaving badly.

How people talk about their jobs and how they talk about their colleagues can inadvertently reveal a lot about the company’s culture.

One way to see what your possible future colleagues and leadership teams are like, especially outside of rehearsed settings, is to look at live interviews, Lai said. If people are not polite when cameras are rolling, they are likely to be mean-spirited in their day-to-day conduct too.

Lai recalled a time when she was job-hunting and watched a video interview where the CEO of a potential employer was not polite to the interviewer.  “I remember being like, ‘Well, maybe he was put in a weird position, so let me watch a few other videos.’ And the other videos confirmed the exact same thing,” Lai said. “I still went through the interview process out of curiosity, and when I met the CEO, it confirmed again that his personality was exactly how I viewed it on the video.”  “I probably could have saved three hours just not even interviewing and trusting my gut on the video,” Lai said.

Beyond video, clues may also come in the form of unsavory comments on social media, said Donna Ballman, a Florida-based employment attorney. “Are they saying negative things about employees? Or denying claims made by employees?”

  1. The organizational structure suggests you may be set up to fail.

Lai suggests looking at the organization’s structure for clues that you could be stepping into a toxic, overburdened work culture.

“For me, it comes down to how are you valued as an employee and as a human. There are a lot of aspects to toxicity,” she said. “There is one of ‘Is your job valued?’ If it’s not, you are never going to be successful, and that can contribute to toxicity.“  One way you can screen for this, as an outsider, is to deduce what you can about the company’s structure and resources from checking LinkedIn, staff bios and other sources. When there are not enough people dedicated to a role to align with a company’s size, it can be a sign that getting everything you need to be successful will be an uphill battle, Lai explained.

“There have been instances where I was considering applying to a job and I’m like, ‘Oh, so there is only one person in this role? That doesn’t make sense from an operational perspective,’” Lai said. “If there are 1,000 people [in the company], and there is only one person for this role, that probably means the person is going to burn out.”

  1. Lawsuits have been filed, alleging discrimination or unfair labor practices.

Look up the company’s name in local court records. Ballman said this may reveal how employers really treat employees behind positive public relations.

“Have ex-employees sued the company? Has the company sued ex-employees?” she said. “If so, it might be worth spending some money pulling those records.”  One free thing you can do is see whether there has been any news coverage of lawsuits involving the company. Such articles will likely give you basic information about alleged discrimination or unfair labor practices.

Ultimately, the goal of this legal research is to save yourself time.  “Some due diligence before applying, and certainly some due diligence before accepting an offer, can save you a lot of heartache down the road,” Ballman said.
