Robert Smith Goes After Ticketmaster’s Fees
The Cure wanted to keep ticket prices low for their upcoming U.S. tour, so they set them at $20. Unfortunately for fans wanted tickets, Ticketmaster fees wiped out that plan. Robert Smith expressed his dissatisfaction with the fees on Twitter, writing, “I am as sickened as you all are by today’s Ticketmaster ‘Fees’ debacle. To be very clear: The artist has no way to limit them. I have been asking how they are justified. If I get anything coherent by way of an answer I will let you all know.” Fans responding to Smith also detailed technical difficulties that limited their ability to buy tickets and they cited price points higher than the $20 The Cure promised. Fans responded to Smith’s post, showing screenshots of tickets inflated from the original $20 with various fees of more than $20 per ticket. Ticketmaster’s website explains the fee structure in a lengthy post that includes five different kinds of fees, including “delivery” fees and “service processing and order fees.” Taylor Swift’s fanbase was upset when a technical glitch caused thousands of fans waiting in an online queue to buy tickets for her Eras tour to be unable to purchase them. Fans sued Ticketmaster in the wake of the ticketing problem. The debacle ultimately led to a Senate subcommittee hearing given the lack of competition in the ticket market, a result of the merger of Live Nation Entertainment and Ticketmaster in 2010.

Ben Affleck swears he had “a good time” at the 2023 Grammy Awards, despite viral video from the show many interpreted as the complete opposite. He went viral ceremony, quickly becoming a meme on social media. At several points in the show, CBS cameras caught him watching the stage alongside Jennifer Lopez, with Affleck appearing to look bored, sad, and even miserable. It didn’t take long for fans to post snapshots of the actor’s expressions online, as well as an interaction some believed was a fight between the pair. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he was asked whether he minded the memes. “No. I had a good time at the Grammys. My wife was going, and I thought, ‘Well, there’ll be good music. It might be fun,'” he said, before explaining what happened during one particularly popular moment. “At movie award shows, it’s speeches and, like, sound-mixing webinars. But I thought this would be fun. I saw [Grammy host Trevor Noah approach] and I was like, ‘Oh, God.’ They were framing us in this shot, but I didn’t know they were rolling,” he said. “I leaned into her and I was like, ‘As soon they start rolling, I’m going to slide away from you and leave you sitting next to Trevor.’ She goes, ‘You better f—ing not leave.'” “That’s a husband-and-wife thing. I mean, some of it is, I’m like, ‘All right, who is this act?’ Like, I don’t keep up. My wife does, obviously,” he added. Though Affleck said he has gone to events “and been pissed off,” “bored” and “drunk” in the past, it wasn’t until this appearance at the Grammys that some speculated online that he was drunk at a major event.

David Letterman Calls Out Tom Cruise
David Letterman went after Tom Cruise for skipping Sunday’s Oscars, despite “Top Gun: Maverick” being a contender. “Now here’s something that may be a little sensitive,” Letterman told Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the awards ceremony, on Wednesday. “Where was Tom Cruise?” Kimmel said he heard vague “production issues” involving “Mission: Impossible ― Dead Reckoning Part II” as the reason, but “we have no idea what happened.” “But Tom Cruise should have been there celebrating his big jet pack maverick show,” Letterman insisted. Kimmel suggested that Letterman was right in guessing that Cruise didn’t feel like he would win, so he didn’t show up. “Between you and me, he should have been there, right?” Letterman repeated. “He is the prince of Hollywood,” Kimmel replied. Letterman complimented Kimmel on making the Oscars a success, even without “Mr. Big Shot” being there. “Nice going, Jimmy,” he said. It was later revealed that Kimmel had to scrap a tribute to Cruise when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed he wouldn’t attend. But Kimmel still worked in a joke poking fun at a scene from the movie and Scientology. “Tom Cruise with his shirt off in that beach football scene? L. Ron Hubba Hubba, you know what I’m saying?” Kimmel cracked.

Def Leppard Drummer Attacked
Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen was violently attacked outside the Four Seasons hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, over the weekend. A 19-year-old man named Max Edward Hartley was arrested for the incident. According to a police report obtained by The Daily Mail, Allen was outside smoking a cigarette when Hartley allegedly emerged from behind a pillar and rushed at the drummer, knocking him down. As a result of the assault, Allen apparently hit his head on the ground, causing injury. A woman attempted to help Allen, but was repeatedly punched by Hartley. When she tried to escape back into the hotel, Hartley dragged her back outside by the hair. Hartley fled but was eventually arrested as he was breaking car windows nearby the hotel. Allen famously lost his arm in a 1984 car accident, but persevered to continue playing with Def Leppard. Hartley was charged with two counts of battery, four counts of criminal mischief, and abusing an “elderly or disabled adult.”

Jeremy Renner Shares Note From His Nephew
Jeremy Renner shared a sweet post to his Instagram Story on Wednesday, showing a handwritten note that he received from his nephew, Auggie. “I am very lucky because my uncle is hawk-eye,” the note read, in reference to Renner’s most famous role, Marvel superhero and Avengers team member Hawkeye. “I am also very lucky that my uncle is alive from his accident,” Auggie also wrote. Renner captioned the letter with the words, “Love my little man. Love you, Auggie.” On New Year’s Day, the actor suffered “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries” after an accident involving a snowplow, a spokesperson told CNN at the time. The accident occurred while Renner was helping a family member clear snow from a private driveway near the star’s Nevada home. He shared an update on his Instagram later in January revealing he had broken more than 30 bones in the accident.

New Top Dog Breed
The American Kennel Club said registration data from 2022 revealed French bulldogs are now the most popular variety of purebred dogs in the country, ending the Labrador retriever’s 31-year reign. The AKC said Labrador retrievers have topped its yearly list of the most popular dog breeds in the United States for 31 consecutive years, but French bulldogs took the top spot for the first time in data from 2022. French bulldogs were the No. 2 breed in 2021, and labs were booted down to that spot for 2022. “Breaking the lab’s top-dog status of over three decades is no small feat,” the AKC said in its announcement. “The Frenchie is a smart, compact breed, and they can fit into various different lifestyles, perfect for people all across the country.” Golden retrievers, German shepherds, poodles, bulldogs, Rottweilers, beagles, dachshunds and German shorthaired pointers round out the Top 10.

Package Full Of Gold Found
Border agents at the Port of Cincinnati discovered a package filled with $67,830 worth of gold in a shipment heading for Hong Kong with a declared value of $125, officials said Wednesday. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said officers selected a package for an X-ray examination on March 9. The package originated from San Francisco and was addressed to Kowloon, Hong Kong in China. It was declared to contain clothing valued at $125. “After noting density anomalies during the X-ray screening, officers opened the shipment and found four gold bars and a box of loose gold concealed within articles of clothing,” the agency said in a statement. “The [Laboratories and Scientific Services] confirmed the gold was approximately 98% pure, leading import specialists from the Center for Excellence and Expertise to assess the value of the shipment at $67,830.” The agency said filing misleading export information can lead to civil or criminal penalties and prosecution. In 2018, a janitor at the Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea found $325 million worth of gold bars in a garbage bin. The bars were wrapped in newspaper. Authorities in Switzerland said in 2020 someone left behind $190,000 worth of gold bars on a train. Officials said the bars appeared to be left after a Swiss Federal Railways train that arrived in the city from St. Gallen to Lucerne.

Man Breaks Jenga Record With His Tongue
The California man with the world’s longest tongue set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest time to remove five Jenga blocks with the tongue. Nick Stoeberl of Salinas, who earned his first Guinness World Record when his tongue was measured at 3.97 inches, managed to remove five Jenga blocks from a stack in 55.526 seconds. Stoeberl, who also uses his record-breaking tongue to paint, said being a Guinness World Record holder has changed his life. “I’ve been able to go to different countries and see all different kinds of cultures and hang out with good people and have good food,” he said. “It’s very fun and I looked at the books as a kid and so to be in them is just an honor — it’s huge.” See the video HERE.

Flight Attendants Delay Flight After Fighting
Passengers on a recent SkyWest flight from Los Angeles to Houston, Texas, were delayed for over an hour after the flight attendants reportedly got into an argument and refused to work with each other. Ashley Brewer, an anchor on ESPN, tweeted on March 12 that her flight was delayed for a rather unusual reason. “Guys. My flight can’t take off [because] 2 flight attendants got in a fight and are now REFUSING to work together. Now [we’re] delayed. We’re sitting here waiting for them to talk it out, but nope! Lady won’t budge,” Brewer wrote on Twitter. “She reopened the door and all … I can’t believe this is real life,” she added. Brewer said she was en route to visit her fiancé, Houston Rockets player Frank Kaminsky. Brewer then made a TikTok video documenting the situation. Her video received more than 70,000 views and more than 300 comments from people commiserating with her.

5 Questions You Should Ask A New Boss Right Away

- “What work, project or priority is top-of-mind for you right now?”
This question is a way to get more information on the issues that weigh on your boss’ mind. “Maybe they’re worried about a deadline or goal. Maybe their focus is unrelated to your team’s work. Maybe they’re still in sponge mode and gathering data,” Hogan said. “No matter what their answer is, by asking this question, you’ll gain a better sense of whether you’re working on solving problems that your new manager cares about. Plus, you’ll be better equipped to connect any future requests for your manager back to the things that they care about.”
- “What goals would you like this position or team to achieve this year?”
Gregory Tall, a workshop facilitator who coaches managers and has over 15 years of experience in human resources, said this question is important to ask so that you understand exactly what your manager wants you to accomplish. “Job descriptions are not specific, so you need to hear directly from your manager about the top priorities for your position,” he said. “In fact, it’s a good idea to make this a regular touchpoint of conversation as priorities can shift as things happen in the organization and the external environment. “
And if you can, try to score an early win with your boss, Tall suggested.
“It doesn’t have to be something big, but do something right off the bat to demonstrate that you are a proactive and reliable team member,” Tall said. “It could be as simple as taking the initiative to give your boss a status update on what’s happening in your role before they ask for it.”
- “How would you like to communicate day-to-day and week-to-week?”
Gorick Ng, a career adviser at Harvard University and the author of “The Unspoken Rules: Secrets to Starting Your Career Off Right,” said this is a good question because “under-communication leads to ambiguity. Ambiguity leads to anxiety. Anxiety leads to micromanagement. Aligning communication style and communication frequency can help you avoid getting micromanaged!”
By clarifying how your boss likes to hear updates, you can learn, for example, if your boss prefers a recap email at the end of every week or something else, Ng said.
- “What’s the best way to approach you with a question?”
“If you are a new hire or have a new manager, focus on communication and strive for mutual understanding,” said career strategist Ana Goehner. “It’s easier to establish a new relationship than repair a damaged one.“ That’s why Goehner recommends asking your new boss about how they prefer you come to them with questions, along with other communication-establishing questions like: “Can you describe your management style?” and “How do you like to provide feedback to a new employee?”
These questions are a chance for you to share your communication preferences. “You can discuss your needs, but be open to feedback,” she said. “Let your manager know you don’t check messages after work hours. If you like to have weekly one-on-one meetings, ask if they would be open to that.“
Sometimes, what a boss does can tell you more than what they say. Outside of what they tell you about how they communicate, you can also observe your new boss’ behavior to get a better idea of how they operate.
“Check any previous messages from your manager and watch for their communication style,” Goehner advised. “Do they write short sentences, or do they provide details? Does your manager reply to emails at certain times of the day? Do they seem more relaxed and approachable on Fridays?”
- “Is there anything I can do to help you get up to speed on the team or the work?”
When your manager is new to an existing team, Hogan said asking this question signals that you are here to help your manager and want to learn about the kinds of work you might be doing with them going forward. How they respond can also help you see what kind of boss they will be.
“They might have a specific request; they might express a vague question and expect you to come up with an idea about how to help; they might say, ‘Not now, thanks,‘” Hogan said. “No matter what they say, you can learn a lot from their answer and what it’s going to be like to work with them. If they say ‘Not now, thanks,’ don’t necessarily take this as a sign that they don’t trust you yet — they might truly be unsure of how you can help!” Similarly, if the situation is reversed and you are a new person on your boss’ established team, Ng suggests asking, “Is there anyone that you’d suggest I speak to so that I can get up to speed?”
He said, “it gives you an opportunity to learn from someone who’s been in your shoes before, but it also allows you to build your network.”
