Top Gun: Maverick Was Never Debuting On Steaming

Tom Cruise revealed “Top Gun: Maverick” would “never” make its theatrical debut on a streaming network despite years of setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Cruise and the “Top Gun” team touched down at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday afternoon for the European premiere, a spectacle that included eight fighter jets flying high above the Palais, with red and blue smoke streaming from behind to match the colors of the French flag.  He sat down for a “MasterClass Conversation” with Didier Allouch at the festival’s 1,000-seat Debussy Theatre prior to the premiere, where he told the French journalist he was dedicated to making sure the film made its way to the big screen after years of obstacles.  “Maverick” was initially supposed to be released in July 2019 through Paramount Pictures but was postponed in August 2018 “to allow the production to work out all the complex flight sequences,” according to Deadline.  When asked if he felt pressure to release the film in any capacity on a streaming network, Cruise assured the audience it would “never” happen.  “That was not going to happen ever,” he said while laughing, in excerpts published on The Hollywood Reporter. “That was never going to happen.”  He recalled picking up the phone and dialing each cast member every time the movie’s release date was pushed back, just to reassure everyone to remain calm and stay focused on what they created.   Cruise remembered telling his co-stars: “Don’t worry, this is going to happen.”

Queen’s Jubilee Performers Named

Queen Elizabeth II is set to mark her 70 years on the throne with a huge concert where the biggest stars from around the globe are set to perform.  The mega gig — dubbed the “Platinum Party At The Palace” — will take place at Buckingham Palace in London on June 4 and will last around two and a half hours.  Alicia Keys, Hans Zimmer, Rod Stewart, and Duran Duran are just some of the iconic names expected to grace the royal stage.  Elton John will also take part in the extravaganza, however, his performance will be pre-recorded as he is currently on a tour stint in Europe.  The active members of Queen will team up with “American Idol” star Adam Lambert to open the show before soul legend Diana Ross closes it out with a medley of her greatest hits.  Queen guitarist Brian May revealed just how much this performance will mean to him after the iconic band famously performed on the roof of Buckingham Palace at the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002.  “Twenty years after playing The Queen’s glorious Golden Jubilee we’re very happy to be invited again,” he said.

Nicole Kidman Cut From Tom Cruise Montage

Nicole Kidman was reportedly snubbed from ex-husband Tom Cruise’s career montage video at the Cannes Film Festival.  Kidman, who was married to Cruise for 11 years, was notably one of the only leading ladies not included in the 10-minute montage played at the 2022 film festival on Wednesday, Variety reports.  The video included clips from “Days of Thunder,” where they first met, along with scenes from “Far and Away” and “Eyes Wide Shut.”  However, all of the clips that were used showed Cruise in scenes by himself rather than with his ex-wife.  Interestingly enough, many of Cruise’s other co-stars – including Kirsten Dunst, Renée Zellweger and Penelope Cruz, whom he dated for three years – were all featured in clips.

Flavor Flav Has A 3-Year-Old Son

A paternity test proved that rapper Flavor Flav has a 3-year-old son named Jordan with his former manager, according to TMZ.  They identified the female employee as “Kate,” but a LinkedIn profile for a woman named Kate Gammell shows she worked as Flav’s manager in 2017.  Gammell’s Instagram profile also shows several photos of her with the same little boy pictured in a photo TMZ obtained of Flav and Jordan.  The outlet spoke with the toddler’s grandparents, Barry and Parchi, who shared that their daughter had a romantic relationship with Flav when she worked for him.  He reportedly asked for a DNA test because he did not believe the child was his at first.  However, since learning of the paternity results, Flav has worked out child support and a custody arrangement, has spent more time with Jordan and even started teaching him how to play drums, according to TMZ.  Aside from Jordan, Flav also has seven other children from previous relationships.

Baby Born On Frontier Flight

Frontier Airlines announced on social media that a passenger on a flight headed to Florida gave birth in the air with help from a flight attendant.  The airline said in a Facebook post that the flight was on its way to Orlando when a passenger went into labor.  Capt. Chris Nye made arrangements for the plane to be diverted to Pensacola while flight attendant Diana Giraldo helped the woman give birth in the plane’s back lavatory.  Nye praised Giraldo for being “exemplary” and “calm” during the stressful situation.  “The whole crew really did a great job. I transferred controls and flying duties to my First Officer as I coordinated the diversion,” Nye said. “Dispatch did a great job as well by suggesting Pensacola Airport and getting a gate and paramedics ready for us. This was a job well done, and I was happy to see everyone working together to successfully deliver a newborn on an aircraft.”

Identical Twins Give Birth On Same Day

A pair of identical twins in California have something new in common after they both gave birth to baby boys at the same hospital on the same day.  Jill Justiniani and Erin Cheplak each gave birth to a 7-pound, 3-ounce baby boy at Kaiser Permanente hospital in Anaheim.  Both baby boys measured 20 inches long at birth.  The twins said Justiniani has been scheduled for a C-section on May 5, and Cheplak’s water broke that same day — 10 days before she was due.  “Sharing our pregnancy together was really special because we really had the support of each other through every step of the process,” Justiniani told Good Morning America. “Even just going through the day-to-day changes of pregnancy, all of the unknowns and the questions and the natural worries that come up, we were constantly able to check in with each other and support each other.”

Raccoon Caught Barehanded By Baseball Fan

A University of Arkansas baseball fan became a viral hero when he used his bare hands to catch a raccoon that dashed through the stands in between innings.  Grant Harmon, 24, of Fayetteville, was attending the Razorbacks’ game against Vanderbilt University when a raccoon caused chaos in the stands in between the seventh and eighth innings.  Harmon was caught on camera catching the raccoon by the scruff of the neck and carrying it out of the stadium.  “The opportunity just came about, and I guess I just took action and grabbed it,” Harmon told the Southwest Times. “That was a first. I have no prior experience grabbing raccoons.”  Harmon said police at the stadium advised him to release the raccoon in the parking lot, which he did.  “It was definitely a first for me, but I mean, it wasn’t anything I was afraid of necessarily,” Harmon told HawgBeat. “Raccoon hunting is not an uncommon thing in my family and friends. It was definitely something I was roughly familiar with, just maybe not in that exact sense.”  Harmon said the raccoon bit him once on the hand.  See the video HERE.

Man Eats Big Macs For 50 Years

A Wisconsin man who earned a Guinness World Record for most Big Macs eaten in a lifetime celebrated another milestone: 50 years of eating a Big Mac nearly every day.  Don Gorske of Fond du Lac earned a Guinness World Record in 1999 when he was confirmed to have eaten 15,490 of the McDonald’s sandwiches in his lifetime, and the record was most recently updated in August 2021, when his total surpassed 32,340.  Gorske is now celebrating 50 years of eating a Big Mac almost every day since May 17, 1972. The burger fan, who said he most often eats two of the sandwiches on a given day, said he has missed only eight days in his 50-year fandom.  Gorske said he has tried other burgers, but nothing stuck with him like the Big Mac.  “I had one Burger King Whopper in 1984 and one Topper double burger in 1984. There are a lot of other burger chains that I have never had the desire to try,” he told Guinness World Records. “I’ll probably be eating Big Macs every day for the rest of my life.”
****If he keeps eating Big Macs, “the rest of his life” may not be that long!!

How to Become a Plumber in 4 Steps (THE PENNY HOARDER)

Becoming a plumber does not require the college career path. Instead, you will complete high school and find work as an apprentice. After a few years, you can get licensed as a journeyman plumber and then a master plumber.

As a master plumber, you’ll reach peak earning potential and can even run your own plumbing business.

License laws and types vary by state. Determine the state that you wish to operate in as a plumber, and research those specific guidelines. The steps below offer a more general look at how to become a plumber.

  1. Get Your High School Diploma or GED

Becoming a plumber is all about licensure, so college is not a requirement. However, plumbers typically need to have their high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) to start an apprenticeship. A diploma or GED is also important if you plan to take any plumbing courses at a community college (more on that below).

In high school, math will be crucial to your role as a plumber. Each day, plumbers use concepts from algebra and geometry, and they’re regularly calculating using various units of measure.

If you are currently a high school student interested in becoming a plumber, take all the math courses you can. In addition, choose classes like physics and shop to help you build an effective knowledge and skills base.

  1. Become an Apprentice

Once you have your diploma or GED, the next step to becoming a licensed plumbing contractor is either attending plumbing school or completing an apprenticeship. Plumbing school is typically optional (but we’ve got more details below); many plumbing hopefuls skip straight to an apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship offers on-the-job experience and classroom education. Programs vary by state and organization in terms of structure, length and application process.

In general, you can find a plumbing apprenticeship program through trade unions, community colleges, trade schools and even private businesses. You might need to pass an exam or interview with a licensed plumber.

Plumbing apprenticeships generally last four to five years, during which time you’ll receive roughly 2,000 hours of on-the-job training in the plumbing trade, plus technical instruction. During this time, you’ll learn about local plumbing codes and regulations, how to read blueprints and OSHA safety regulations.Advanced education may cover topics like plumbing fixtures and drainage systems. Unlike pursuing a college degree, however, plumbing apprenticeships are paid.

As an apprentice plumber, you won’t be able to tackle projects yourself. Instead, you will shadow a journeyman plumber or a master plumber, depending on the program.

  1. Become a Journeyman Plumber

Upon completing your apprenticeship, you can apply to become a licensed journeyman plumber. Once you reach this status, you will be able to work unsupervised on commercial and residential projects.

To be considered a journeyman plumber, you will need to pass your state’s licensing exam. In general, you will need to renew this license every three to five years and take continuing education courses to maintain your licensed status.

At the journey level, you can work for a plumbing company or start your own business.

  1. Become a Master Plumber

If you want to work in a supervisory capacity or be able to employ additional plumbers for your business, you will need to become a licensed master plumber.

Licensed master plumbers have the highest earning potential. The top 10% of plumbers can earn $99,920 a year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Most states require you to operate as a journeyman plumber for a set number of years (between two and five) before you can seek licensure as a master plumber. To earn your license, you’ll need to pass a written and practical exam.

Depending on your state, you may be able to earn special endorsements and certifications. For example, in the Lone Star State, in addition to your Texas plumbing license, you can obtain endorsements for medical gas piping installation, multipurpose residential fire protection sprinkler installation and water supply protection installation and repair.

Optional: Go to a Trade School

A plumbing apprenticeship program includes on-the-job training and some classroom instruction, but many plumbers choose to attend a vocational school as a first step. Plumbing trade schools may offer special certification or even a two-year associate degree.

Potential education topics at a vocational school might include plumbing theory, water distribution, blueprint reading, draining and venting, pipe cutting and soldering and even electrical basics.

Earning a special degree or certification can give you a leg-up when applying for competitive apprenticeships.

How Much Do Plumbers Make?

The median pay for plumbers last year was $59,880, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Though the labor is tough, hours can be long and the work can be dangerous, becoming a licensed plumber may be well worth it if you have the necessary skills and dedication.

And on the high end, earning potential for master plumbers nearly reached $100,000 for the top 10%.

While the BLS targets 5% job growth through 2030, the increase in home renovation projects due to the ongoing pandemic may create even more plumbing jobs in the years ahead.

What Do Plumbers Do?

Plumbers can work on both residential and commercial projects. The day-to-day duties might include remodeling bathrooms and kitchens, replacing and repairing water and drain lines, installing new water heaters, installing new faucets, installing new toilets and installing water filtration systems.

Necessary Skills

Plumbers need to be able to cut and solder pipes, diagnose and troubleshoot issues with plumbing systems and interpret (or even draw) blueprints. If you run your own plumbing company, you will also need to handle advertising, scheduling, taxes and billing — or hire someone to do that for you.

A plumber’s skill set is varied. As a plumber, you will need the technical knowledge to diagnose plumbing problems and make repairs. You will also need to be proficient in using a wide variety of tools, including saws, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches and torches. Remaining in top physical condition is crucial, as you will frequently do heavy lifting and perform tasks that require stamina, often in very hot or cold environments.
