Quibi Shuts Down
Quibi, the short-form entertainment content streaming service, announced Wednesday it was shutting down some six months after it launched. Founders film producer Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard, announced in a statement the streaming service would start “winding down,” saying they were looking to sell its content and technology assets. The service streamed content a maximum length of 10 minutes it called “quick bites” and launched in April after raising more than $1.5 billion that allowed it to lure top talent to its service, such as Chrissy Teigen, Anna Kendrick, Sam Raimi, Idris Elba, Jennifer Lopez and Steph Curry. “We opened the door to the most creative and imaginative minds in Hollywood to innovate from script to screen and the result was content that exceeded our expectations,” they wrote. “We challenged engineers to build a mobile platform that enabled a new form of storytelling — and they delivered a groundbreaking and delightful service.” Katzenberg and Whitman said it failed in part because it launched amid the coronavirus pandemic, which forced people to stay home and in less need of using their phones to stream short yet polished content while on the go. In part it may have failed because the idea wasn’t strong enough, they said.

Felicity Huffman Almost Done With Sentence
Felicity Huffman is close to completing her sentence for her role in the nationwide college admissions scandal. Huffman, who served 11 days in prison in 2019 for her role in the national scandal that exposed the rich and famous engaging in illegal schemes to buy their kids into some of the nation’s top schools, requested the return of her passport in a court document filed on Wednesday. Huffman’s legal team said she’s nearly met all of the terms of her supervised release and will soon complete the requirements that were first imposed on her back in September 2019. “At the time of her initial appearance Ms. Huffman surrendered her passport without objection to the United States Probation and Pretrial Services Office,” her request says. It continues: “Ms. Huffman will shortly complete the period of supervised release the Court imposed on September 13, 2019. She has alredy completed all other aspects of the sentence the Court imposed that day.” Huffman’s legal team argues that her passport is still in possession of the United States Probation and Pretrial Services Office and the government’s counsel agrees to her request for its return. It’s been nearly one year since Huffman was released from prison after she served 11 days of her 14-day sentence.

Elton John has teamed up with Mattel to debut a new limited-edition Barbie doll in his honor. The “Tiny Dancer” doll is being released to coincide with his 45-year anniversary of his record-breaking concert at Dodgers Stadium in 1975 — making it the largest single-artist concert in history at the time. “Barbie is an icon in her own right, so having her pay tribute to my work and personal style is a real honor,” John said in a statement to Rolling Stone. “I hope that she inspires fans everywhere to fearlessly pursue their own dreams and limitless potential.” Available at Walmart, the 12-inch blonde doll will take on the full Elton persona, complete with a rainbow-detailed bomber jacket and flared denim pants with the initials “E” and “J” emblazoned on the front of each leg, respectively. Epstein Had A “Prince Andrew” Puppet
The Prince Andrew puppet that was allegedly used to grope some of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims made a cameo in Ghislaine Maxwell’s 2016 deposition that was unsealed Thursday. The doll, same one that Epstein accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre said bore the likeness of the British royal, was the subject of a lengthy line of questioning in Maxwell’s seven-hour testimony. “Is there any puppet you’ve ever seen in Jeffrey Epstein’s home in the presence of [redacted]?” asked Giuffre’s lawyer Sigrid McCawley. “Again, puppet, you know, there is lots of types of puppets,” Maxwell shot back. “Any type of puppet,” McCawley continued. She later asks Maxwell, “Have you seen any puppet that fits any description in the presence of [redacted] in Jeffrey Epstein’s home?” After an objection from her lawyer, Maxwell waffles, “I am not aware of any small handheld puppet that was there. There was a puppet — not a puppet — there was a — I don’t know how would you describe it really, I don’t know how would you describe it. Not a puppet, I don’t know how you would describe it. A caricature of [redacted] that was in Jeffrey’s home.” Many names were redacted in the deposition ahead of it going public on Thursday. Giuffre claimed Andrew used a puppet to allegedly grope her at Epstein’s Upper East Side mansion in 2001. Giuffre has said Maxwell was there at the time of the alleged abuse. Another Epstein accuser, Johanna Sjoberg, had also reportedly accused Andrew of inappropriately touching her with the same puppet.

After bidding farewell to their Sussex Royal brand after they stepped down as senior royals earlier this year, the Sussexes have launched the website for their upcoming nonprofit, Archewell. The nonprofit, which Meghan and Harry announced in April, will comprise charitable endeavors, an educational website, support groups, mentoring, and other as yet unannounced ventures. The Archewell website currently consists of only one page, a minimalist beige homepage with a breakdown of the nonprofit’s name in black text. Arche is defined as a “Greek word meaning “source of action,” whereas well is described as “a plentiful source or supply; a place we go to dig deep.” Sussex fans can also sign up for Archewell emails, in order to keep updated on the venture’s “activities and initiatives.”

Florida Cat Finds 2-Headed Snake
Wildlife officials in Florida are taking care of an unusual snake brought in by a woman whose cat dragged the serpent inside her home, leading to the discovery that the reptile has two heads. Kay Rogers said her daughter’s cat, Olive, brought a snake into the living room of the family’s Palm Harbor home and after rescuing the reptile from the feline they noticed the small snake has two heads. “Originally I thought my daughter was kidding when she said that. Then I saw him and was amazed, I had never seen anything like that,” Rogers told WKMG-TV. The snake, a black racer that Rogers’ daughter named Dos, is now in the care of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Research Institute. See the photo HERE.

Norway Apologizes For Extra Hour
The Norwegian official responsible for Daylight Saving Time in the country apologized for adding an additional hour to what “has already been a very demanding year.” Iselin Nybo, whose duties as minister of Trade and Industry include implementing Daylight Saving Time, said the clocks will be set back an hour Sunday morning in accordance with the traditional time change. “As minister of time, I strongly regret that 2020 will be another hour longer. This has already been a very demanding year for many,” Nybo told the Norwegian News Agency. She encouraged Norwegians to look on the “brighter” side to the time change. “When we set the clock back, the night gets an hour longer. This means that when we get up on Sunday, the sun has managed to get a little further up above the horizon than at the same time the day before, and we get a brighter morning than we would otherwise have,” she said. The European Parliament voted in 2019 to back a proposal to do away with the twice-yearly Daylight Saving Time change, with a goal of eliminating it by 2021.

Parrot Rescued From Top Of City Hall
Firefighters were called to a New Jersey city hall to rescue a macaw perched on the building’s roof. Paterson Fire Chief Brian McDermott said the parrot was spotted atop Paterson City Hall on Tuesday by a film crew working in the area. The department shared photos of fire crews using a ladder truck to reach the frightened bird high on the rooftop. McDermott said the owner of the escaped bird, identified as Chewy, went up on the ladder to retrieve the pet. “The bird just jumped on him and was visibly relieved,” McDermott told NorthJersey.com. Chief Animal Control Officer John DeCando said Chewy appeared frightened during the rescue, but was in good health. “You couldn’t ask for anything happier,” DeCando said. “The bird was reunited with the owner and suffered no injuries.”

Pregnant Woman Runs Under 6 Minute Mile
A California athlete’s speed is going viral for an unusual reason after she ran a mile in under 6 minutes — while 9 months pregnant. Makenna Myler, 28, said her doctors cleared her to continue running with the Valor Track Club in Orange County five to six times a week while pregnant. Myler’s husband, Mike, bet her $100 that she could not run a mile in under 8 minutes, and she decided to take on the challenge only one week before her due date. The runner crushed the goal, finishing with a time of 5 minutes, 25 seconds. The average time for a female runner to complete a mile is 10 minutes, 40 seconds. “I think pregnancy is a beautiful thing and it’s not an injury or a sickness, that you’re still really capable,” Myler told Good Morning America.
