Prince Harry Releases Title Of His Book

Prince Harry will release his highly-anticipated memoir in January 2023.  Penguin Random House, which is publishing the book, unveiled a title, Spare, and release date, Jan. 10th.  “We are excited to announce the remarkably personal and emotionally powerful story of Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex,” Random House tweeted.  Spare will explore Harry’s life from the death of his mother in 1997 to the present day.  “It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow — and horror. As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling — and how their lives would play out from that point on. For Harry, this is that story at last,” an official description reads.  “With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”
*****Harry needs to get more familiar with America!! Everyone’s gonna think “Spare” is a book about bowling!!

********At the end of the book, there’s a very personal message: “Help. I’m being held hostage by Meghan Markle!!!”

It’s got all the heart, double the puns, and triple the food-on-food sex. In other words, it’s exactly what the world needs right now.”  Plot details have not been revealed yet.

Adele Wants To Earn A Degree

Adele has announced plans to pause her music career to further advance her education.  In a conversation with fans surrounding the release of her music video “I Drink Wine” from her critically acclaimed “30” album that debuted nearly a year ago, Adele told her audience that after her highly-anticipated, already-postponed Las Vegas residency, “I really want to get a degree in English literature,” per The Sun.   “If I hadn’t made it in my singing, I think I would definitely be a teacher. I think I’d be an English Lit teacher,” she shared.  Adele said “I definitely feel like I use my passion of English Lit in what I do,” as she writes her own music. “But even though it’s not like I’d go on to get a job from my degree, I wish I had gone to university, I wish I’d had that experience.”  Revealing she has zero intentions to attend university, she did note, “I’ll do it online and with a tutor, but that’s my plan for 2025. It’s just to get the qualifications.”  Adele has been open in the past on her affinity for English literature, even crediting her own teacher, Ms. McDonald, with getting her interested and keeping her inspired at a young age. In November, Adele did “An Audience With…” on ITV, where she performed her new music.   Adele’s Las Vegas residency, “Weekends with Adele” will begin Nov. 18.

Kanye’s Donda Academy Closes

Kanye West’s Donda Academy will close, “effective immediately,” in light of his anti-Semitic comments.  Jason Angell, the school’s principal, announced in an email to parents, which the London Times obtained Thursday, that “at the discretion of our founder, Donda Academy will close for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year effective immediately.  “There is no school [Thursday],” Angell added.  West opened Donda Academy, named after his late mother, in Simi Valley, Calif., in August.  The Christian school charged $15,000 tuition and forced parents to sign nondisclosure agreements to prevent leaks.  While his own children — North, 9, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 3 — did not attend his academy, West has fought ex-wife Kim Kardashian vigorously to get them to enroll.  West’s business partnerships have been dissolving at a rapid pace in light of his offensive comments, with Adidas, Gap and Balenciaga all cutting ties with him.

Matthew Perry Makes A Keanu Reeves Apology

Matthew Perry has apologized for questioning in his new memoir why Keanu Reeves “walks among us.”  “I’m actually a big fan of Keanu. I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize,” he said in a statement to People Wednesday.  “I should have used my own name instead.”  Perry suggests in “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing” that he harbors bitter feelings toward Keanu — but fails to provide a reason.  “Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?” he writes.  He made his first movie, “A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon,” in 1988 with Reeves’ best friend, Phoenix. They became close while filming, which made Phoenix’s untimely death from a drug overdose at age 23 in 1993 all the more heartbreaking.
***********Actually, Matthew makes a fair point!!!

Deer Runs Thru Business

A South Carolina restaurant shared security camera footage of the moment a deer ran into the business through the open front door and ended up slipping and sliding around the dining room.  521 Filling Station in Kershaw posted a video to Facebook showing the deer run into the restaurant about 11:30 a.m. Monday and repeatedly fall on the slippery floor while running around the dining room.  Bryant Neal, owner of the eatery, said the deer appeared to be trying to find an exit, and at one point tried to get out through a closed window.  Employees were able to escort the deer back outside. Neal said no one inside the restaurant was injured and the deer did not appear to be hurt as it ran away.  See the video HERE.

You Can Name An Otter

The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago is requesting the public’s help with an important decision: picking a name for a rescued otter.  The aquarium said two otters, currently known only as Otter 929 and Otter 926, were separately rescued at the age of 2 weeks along the California coast.  The Shedd said aquarium staff will be choosing a name for Otter 926, but the public is being invited to help choose the name for Otter 929.  The aquarium’s website is currently allowing visitors to vote for one of three names: Sunny, Jade and Willow.  The names are references to locations in California: Sunset Beach, Jade Cove and the Willow Creek Picnic Area and Beach.

Rescued Beaver Builds A Dam

A Massachusetts animal rescue group shared video of a rescued beaver building a dam to keep her roommate out.  Newhouse Wildlife Rescue in Chelmsford posted a video to Facebook showing what rescued beaver Nini did while alone in the room she normally shares with roommate Ziibi.  “As a reward for her good behavior towards her new roommate, Nibi was allowed to have the rehab room to herself for an hour while Ziibi enjoyed the semi aquatic enclosure,” the Facebook post states.  The video shows Nibi gathering sticks from the floor of the room and using them to barricade the doorway.  The post said Nibi was apparently trying to dam up the door “in case Ziibi tries to come back inside.”  See the video HERE.

Angry Wife Shoots Up Mountain Dew Cans!

A North Carolina woman was issued a criminal citation this week for shooting at cans of Diet Mountain Dew in her backyard.   Gastonia Police Department officers responded to reports of shots fired in the neighborhood and found a 64-year-old woman who said she was firing a revolver at the soda cans because she didn’t approve of her father drinking them, the department said on Facebook.  “We totally understand that not everybody is a fan of the Dew but we can’t stress enough how dangerous this is!” the department said.   It continued, “There are much safer alternatives to disposing of beverages that you don’t like instead of using the full bottles as target practice…in your backyard… in your neighborhood… surrounded by other homes and people.”   The department added, “guns and Diet Mountain Dew don’t mix!”  The woman was cited with discharging a firearm within the city limits.

9 Money-Saving Hacks From The Past To Cut Food Costs During Inflation

HUFFINGTON POST

Use cheaper cuts of meat

For example, your favorite smoked brisket has its roots in the poverty-ridden shtetls of Eastern Europe. Because it was a large, tough piece of meat that took a long time to cook, it was difficult to sell and therefore the cheapest. Jewish immigrants brought it to America, where they settled everywhere from Manhattan to Memphis to Dallas. Brisket kept its roots as a Jewish holiday meal but also became pastrami (in Romania, where it was developed, pastrami was made with goose) and eventually found its way to barbecue joints.

Check out tips 5 and 6 here for some great cheap cuts to try.

Stretch your proteins

We’re so used to adding rice to the filling of stuffed cabbage and breadcrumbs to meatloaf that we hardly ever stop to think why. But there are three reasons such recipes developed. For one thing, they used up small bits of leftovers: that last scoop of rice, that heel of bread. For another, they stretched out the amount of meat, making more of it. And finally, by adding such items, they bound the ground protein, preventing it from slipping into sauce.

You can extend your ground proteins with everything from inexpensive root vegetables to crushed crackers that are going stale to the last handful of potato chips lingering in the bag.

Replace expensive ingredients

When times are tough, certain items not only become inexplicably expensive but hard to find. We saw this in May 2021 with the chicken wing shortage, when wings were at an all-time high of $3.25 per pound. Yet thighs were still inexpensive, which baffled people because every chicken has two of each, right? It’s just that thighs simply aren’t as popular.

Now poultry prices in general have tumbled but meat prices are up and expected to remain high until 2025 because of drought issues. Take a note from vegans as well as Latin American cooks everywhere: Beans are nutritious, a heck of a lot cheaper and incredibly filling.

Shell egg prices were also high, then fell, and are now creeping back up. Depending on your budget, you may not have any in the house at times. And yet, you can still make Wacky Cake ― developed during the Great Depression/World War II era, it’s one of the most famous examples of how to bake without eggs, milk or butter, relying on vinegar to leaven it.

Repurpose your leftovers

Give your leftovers a new life by incorporating them into new recipes. Save the last few tablespoons of mashed potatoes, the remaining florets of roasted cauliflower, the half of a hamburger, even the remains of a fish fillet. There’s always a way to combine a starchy vegetable and a protein into either hash or a patty. Just add some sautéed or minced onion for flavor.

You can do the same thing with leftover rice and turn it into arancini (rice balls), fried rice or a rice salad.

Pickle and preserve

Pickling and preserving are excellent ways to save produce from rotting. You don’t have to be an expert canner, either, or have a huge batch of anything. Also known as refrigerator pickles, quick pickles don’t require vacuum sealing, and are efficient for a mixed batch of veggies. All you need is a bath of equal parts vinegar and water with salt and sugar (adjust for taste). Add any spices, a clove or two of garlic or herbs to vary the flavor.

Use and reuse

Don’t feel like making your own brine? Reuse any pickling brine after you finish a jar of pickles to make more. There’s no reason to throw away a perfectly good brine when you can slice some carrots or red onions into it and preserve them. You can also use pickle brine to marinate your chicken before you fry it.

Ditto the olive oil that comes from jars of artichokes or olives. These make great marinades as well as salad dressings.

Make flavored ice cubes

Freezing is another way to preserve these oils along with fading produce, especially fragile young greens like arugula or herbs. Grind them up with nuts that are in danger of becoming rancid and/or cheese that has been sitting in the fridge too long and pour the mixture into ice cube trays. Voila ― you have pesto cubes. Then you can drop these flavor bombs into soups, turn them into salad dressings, use them to top pastas, or add them to any other dish that needs a dose of flavor.

Save seeds and plant a garden

During World War II, when food rationing and labor shortages had a major effect on supply chains, the government urged private citizens to plant victory gardens to supplement their meals (and show their patriotism). The pandemic made gardening popular again, which also helped relieve stress and anxiety.

But you don’t have to go to great lengths to reap the benefits. Every vegetable and fruit ― peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, avocados ― that you purchase has a pit or seeds that you can then plant. If your onions or garlic sprout before you can eat them, don’t throw them out. Plant them. If your potatoes grow eyes, ditto. And never buy cut fruit, especially pineapple, when you can buy it whole for a lot less money and get the top to boot. A pineapple takes at least a year to grow from its top into a plant that produces another fruit. But if you start every one that you eat, you can have the identical amount by the same time the following year.

Clip coupons and find reward programs

Riffling through an envelope of coupons that we clipped from magazines and newspapers and collecting S&H Green Stamps is certainly a thing of the past. But many stores now offer coupons and rewards digitally. And there are always BOGO deals. If you don’t have enough storage, find a neighbor to split shopping or cooking costs with or form a warehouse club to offset the spoilage from bulk buying. And sign up for rewards programs either at your local stores or through your credit cards. You’d be surprised how much money gets returned to you annually this way.
