Mayim Bialik To Co-Host With Former Champ

Mayim Bialik and Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings will host the game show for the remainder of the year.  Jeopardy! confirmed on its official Twitter account Thursday that they will fill in as hosts following Mike Richards’ exit.  “Not sure if you’ve heard but @missmayim and @kenjennings are hosting me until the end of the year. Everyone on the staff is supralunar,” the post reads.  Bialik will host new episodes through Nov. 5, after which she and Jennings will “split hosting duties as their schedules allow,” Sony Pictures Television said.  Bialik, an actress known for playing Amy on The Big Bang Theory, was originally announced in August to host new Jeopardy! primetime specials and a potential spinoff series.  She was later confirmed to guest host the regular game show in the wake of Richards’ departure.   Jennings is a former Jeopardy! contestant who holds the record for the longest winning streak on the show and the highest winnings in regular season play. Reba McEntire Rescued From Historic Building

Singer and actress Reba McEntire said she is grateful she escaped unharmed when the staircase crumbled in an historic building she was touring.  “While my team and I were in Atoka, OK yesterday checking out an old historical building, a staircase collapsed,” the country star tweeted Wednesday.  “Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. We were safely evacuated from the building thanks to the quick response from the Atoka fire and police departments.”  She left the building, which was more than 100 years old, on a fire ladder from a second-story window Tuesday afternoon.  “Oh, it was pretty scary, I was worried about who was downstairs and how bad it was,” said Coby Scherrill, who was with McEntire at the time, scouting locations for a future project.  “We were just touring the building and the stairwell was weak. It seemed weak but we did not realize how weak it was until several people had gone down it and then we heard the crash and saw the stairs fall.”  See the video HERE.

Elton John Postpones Farewell Tour

Elton John announced Thursday he is postponing his 2021 Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Europe and United Kingdom to 2023 due to an injury.  “At the end of my summer break I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since,” he said in an announcement on Twitter. “Despite intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving.”  He said he was advised to have an operation so there wouldn’t be long-term complications.  He  did say he will participate in the Global Citizen event on Sept. 25, as he doesn’t want to let the charity down, and said performing five songs is different than performing for three hours and traveling.  He concluded his message noting how patient his fans have been since the COVID-19 pandemic halted his tour.

Snoop and Martha Doing Halloween Baking Show

Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart will reunite for a baking competition. Snoop and Martha’s Very Tasty Halloween premieres Oct. 14 on Peacock.  Teams of three bakers each will compete to bake 12 square foot Halloween themed confections that are also immersive experiences. The rules state each team must use the concept of fear for inspiration.  Stewart and Snoop Dogg will judge the entries along with chef Alvin Zhou. BuzzFeed Studios, Magical Elves and Snoopadelic Films produce the hour long special, the first of BuzzFeed’s development deal with Peacock.  Snoop Dogg and Martha’s friendship dates back to the rapper’s 2008 appearance on Stewart’s daytime talk show. Since the 2016 Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber, they have capitalized on their chemistry even further.  The duo co-hosted this year’s Puppy Bowl and hosted Snoop and Martha’s Potluck Dinner Party on VH1 in 2016. They presented together at the 2017 MTV Movie and TV Awards.

Marilyn Manson Case Dismissed

A California judge has dismissed a woman’s sexual abuse case against Marilyn Manson because the claims have come past the statute of limitations, according to reports Thursday.  The unnamed accuser — listed as “Jane Doe” in court documents — claimed he raped and physically abused her throughout their relationship.  Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Gregory Keosian said at a hearing Tuesday that her accusations had expired due to issues related to the statute of limitations, according to People.  Keosian said that the complaint by the accuser, who said her memories of the alleged 2011 attack were “repressed,” does not make clear “when the repression began — such as immediately after the events took place, or outside the limitations period — nor its nature or extent,” according to People.  He gave the woman 20 days to clarify their claims — and the accuser’s attorneys said on Thursday that their client plans to file an amendment they hope will allow the case to proceeded.
*******We have repressed memories, too… mostly about yesterday’s show!!!

Bill Maher Praises Norm Macdonald

Bill Maher praised the late Norm Macdonald for keeping his cancer a secret during his nine-year battle.  He appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and spoke about Macdonald’s comedy stylings and legendary life.  “A guy who was never afraid to be too subtle for most people,” Maher said. “He did the jokes he wanted to do. I love that.”  He continued, “I love that I found out he died after he died. Because to me, show business: We’re here for [the audience]. You’re not here for us.”  Maher said he was not “judging anybody,” but he’s not on board with A-listers sharing their health battles so publicly with the world.  “Sometimes, the audience loves that. I’ve never been in that camp,” he stated. “I am not here to burden you. I am here to lighten your burden. So the fact that I didn’t know about this, nobody knew about this — good one, Norm. He kept it to himself because he’s in show business. He’s here to make you happy.”  Macdonald died on Tuesday at the age of 61.
**********Well…. THAT didn’t make us happy!! Bad boy, Norm!!!
*******If “being annoying” was an Olympic event, Bill Maher and Jimmy Kimmel would be the top two contenders!!

Kanye Canceled?-(National Enquirer)

Tone-deaf stunt has ‘em screaming for his head!  Unhinged Kanye West’s latest, tasteless stunt has him on the verge of being canceled, insiders snitched.  Fans and critics were horrified when the unpredictable 44-year-old rapper featured Marilyn Manson onstage at the Chicago listening party for his new “Donda” album after 15 women have come forward to charge the 52-year-old goth rocker with sexual abuse!  ALSO included in the tone-deaf roster of featured guests was rapper DaBaby, 29, who recently came under fire for making hateful homophobic remarks on social media and in concerts.  “Kanye does EVERYTHING for publicity, but in the current social climate he definitely crossed the line!” said a source close to Kanye.

Hopkins Trashes Acting Schools-(Globe)

Legendary star Anthony Hopkins has some words of advice for showbiz hopefuls-don’t take acting lessons!  The 83-year-old Oscar winner slams acting schools and urges people “not to waste their money” on them!  “They’re failed actors that set themselves up as gurus,” he insists.  “There’s one very well-known actor with an acting class here in Los Angeles and he’s the star of the show.  He’s on stage with them, interrupting them, being rude to them.  No, you don’t do that!”

Celeb Roomies!-(Us Weekly)

Winona Ryder & Gwyneth Paltrow

If those walls could talk!  Once besties, the Stranger Things star and Goop guru reportedly shared digs in the early ‘90s.  But their situation is rumored to have gone south when Paltrow found Ryder’s script for Shakespeare in Love.  The Seven actress lobbied for an audition and wound up winning an Oscar for the role!  Years later, the mom of two seemed to shade Ryder, who was famously found guilty of shoplifting in 2002, when she wrote about a “frenemy” being humiliated:  “My reaction was deep relief and happiness.”  Ouch.

Method Madness:  Ashton Kutcher-(Star)

Thinking it would give him an “in” into playing Steve Jobs in 2013’s Jobs, Ashton decided to follow the Apple founder’s unusual “fruitarian” diet, eating just fruit, nuts and seeds.  “I was studying his eating habits and his behaviors and was told that he drunk a lot of carrot juice,” said the 43-year-old.  His method backfired, however, when he landed in the hospital days before filming started!  “I was like doubled over in pain,” he later said.  “My pancreas levels were completely out of whack.  It was really terrifying.”

Channing & Zoe:  Getting Serious-(Life & Style)

Channing Tatum and Zoe Kravitz’s summer fling is heating up!  The Magic Mike star, 41, has been spending a lot of time with the Big Little Lies actress, 32, in NYC after connecting on the set of her upcoming directorial debut, Pussy Island.  “Zoe’s warm personality puts Channing at ease, and he feels he can be open with her,” spills an insider.  “She’s a great listener.  They have in-depth conversations about life and have helped each other get through their divorces.”  Zoe ended her two-year marriage to Karl Glusman in December, and while Channing’s divorce from Jenna Dewan was finalized in 2019, the pair still have plenty to hash out.  “Zoe hasn’t met Channing’s daughter [Everly, 8,]” notes the source.  “He plans on introducing them soon, though.”

Happy Anniversary!  Sarah Michelle Gellar & Freddie Prinze Jr.-(People)

On Sept. 1 the actress, 44, and actor, 45, celebrated 19 years of marriage.  “I honestly thought it was tomorrow,” Gellar-who shares two kids with Prinze-quipped on Instagram.

Last Laugh-(In Touch)

“ESPN broadcast a rerun of a corgi race from earlier this summer.  I love to picture the queen standing at the fence, fist full of cash, going, ‘Come on !  Mama needs a new peacoat!’”-James Corden.

Class Ring Found 10 Years Later

A New York state man using his metal detector on the grounds of a high school unearthed a class ring that turned out to have been lost at a soccer game 10 years earlier. Metal detector hobbyist Kris Haskins said he was treasure hunting at LaFargeville Central School when he found a class ring that belonged to a member of the school’s class of 2010.  “I dug it up and flipped the sod over and saw the gold,” Haskins told WWNY-TV. “Gold and silver doesn’t tarnish over the years, so I saw the gold gleaming at me, and knew I had something special.”  Haskins posted photos of his discovery to his Indian River Metal Detecting page on Facebook, where it came to the attention of Patti Fish.  Fish said she recognized the ring as the one she had bought for her son, Anthony Sanford. She said her son had lost the ring at a soccer game in 2011.  “They got done with the game and he realized he’d lost the ring,” Fish said. “Me, being a single parent, it took everything we had to get that ring for him. He was so upset when he lost it. We searched the whole field, and we couldn’t find it anywhere.”
********This is why you should always have a metal detector handy!!!
*******We found our class ring when we went for a colonoscopy!! Don’t ask!!

Bears Take Dip In Family Pool

A Massachusetts man captured video of a family of bears that dropped by his back yard to take a dip in a wading pool and play on the swing set.  Mike Lafond captured video when he spotted three bears playing in the inflatable pool behind his Westfield home.  The bears’ rowdy antics apparently caused the pool to deflate.  The animals eventually moved on to the nearly playground set, attempting to climb on the slide and the swings.  The black bear hunting season in Massachusetts began Sept. 7 and runs through Sept. 25. A second bear hunting season will commence in November.  See the video HERE.

Toy Hall Of Fame Finalists

The National Toy Hall of Fame in New York announced that the 12 finalists for 2021 induction include American Girl Dolls and the board game Battleship.  The National Toy Hall of Fame, at The Strong museum of play in Rochester, said the finalists for induction this year also include billiards, Cabbage Patch Kids, Fisher-Price Corn Popper, Mahjong, Masters of the Universe, pinata, Risk, sand, The Settlers of Catan and a toy fire engine.  “These 12 toys represent the wide scope of playthings — from one of the most universal playthings in the world like sand to a game-changing board game like Risk to the popular adult game of billiards,” Christopher Bensch, vice president for collections at The Strong, said in a news release.  “Whether old or new, for kids or adults, all 12 of these toy finalists greatly influenced the world of play.”  Online voters are being called on to choose their favorites in a “Player’s Choice” ballot, and the online votes will be counted as one member of the 23-member of the National Selection Advisory Committee in choosing the official inductees.  The online voting runs through Sept. 22, and the inductees will be announced Nov. 4.

Couple Wins Lottery On Vacation

An Australian couple said they will never forget their recent vacation after a lottery ticket they picked up during the holiday earned them a jackpot of more than $700,000.  The Logan, Queensland, couple, who chose to remain anonymous, told The Lotto officials they were on vacation in Cairns when they bought ticket for Monday night’s Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto at the Spar Holloways Beach store.  The ticket matched the drawn numbers 33-15-22-24-18-14, earning them a $733,487.36 jackpot.  “We checked the ticket on The Lott app last night,” the husband told officials. “We couldn’t believe it. We thought it must be a mistake. Nothing like this has ever happened to us, so it felt like a dream.”  The pair said they will try to act responsibly with their winnings.

5 Exercises To Do In The Morning If You’re Too Tired To Work Out

HUFFINGTON POST

Stretches

Gentle stretching allows your mind and body to wake up by giving you gentle stimuli, according to Letchford.

Try doing an open-book stretch or a figure-four stretch when you first wake up. Even stretching your arms above your head can help you first thing in the morning, Kelly Roberts Lane, owner of Fix It Physical Therapy in Minnesota, previously told HuffPost.

“Reach your arms all the way over your head and look up. Then, roll your spine down one vertebra at a time until you are touching your toes or are as close to them as you can get,” Roberts Lane said. “Let your head hang. Straighten one knee and then the other to get a deeper hamstring stretch.”

After stretching, you can progress to a warm up (more on that in a second) or other moves.

Warmups

A warmup can be as simple as some steadily-paced, low-impact bodyweight exercises (think: squats).

“Squats — on controlled tempo — warm up your hips, glutes and core, and [help you to] connect to your foundation first thing in the morning,” said Anthony Crouchelli, a New York-based trainer and founder of the .1 Method.

You can leave it there, or move into something more involved if you’re feeling more awake.

“Prior to intense movement, especially if it involves heavy lifting … I always recommend a warmup that addresses the brain-body connection,” Letchford said, noting that your reaction time also slows when you’re tired (and sore). “My favorite way to prime the nervous system for an intense workout is to move quickly — fast feet or quick hops. Both improve reaction time.”

You should do this whenever you exercise early, even if you got good sleep. “After a long night of sleep, it is best to start slow and ease into movement,” she said.

Mobility Exercises

“I’d recommend doing simple mobility exercises to warm up your body … easy movements, like hip-openers, glute bridges or lateral lunges can help you improve your flexibility and function,” Crouchelli said.

Additionally, Crouchelli recommended practicing some mobility patterns known as CARs: controlled articular rotations. These help expand your range of motion in your joints ― there are moves for your wrists, shoulders, hips and more. In addition to helping prevent injuries, CARs could lead to progress in your other workouts. Here’s a great instructional example on how to perform them:

Yoga

Yoga is a universal trainer favorite for so many reasons — it’s low impact, can be adapted to different levels, helps you focus on your breath, and in this case, can help you wake up.

Letchford is a fan of yoga for both herself and her clients, and Crouchelli said yoga is one of his top two morning workouts (the other being the aforementioned CARs).

“Simple downward dog to updog movements” are excellent for groggy mornings, Crouchelli explained. “Yoga has been a great balance in my programming as it has filled a great weekly low-impact workout to allow myself to connect my mental and physical wellness in one flow.”

Low-Key Cardio

Barnes recommended doing cardio exercises in the morning to burn off some of the stress that you might naturally wake up with. Walking, jogging, biking (whether stationary or on the road) and swimming are all great options.

Exercises You Might Want To Avoid

Anything explosive, high impact, or high intensity should be off the table first thing in the morning, unless you’re really awake, committed and focused.

“When you first get up, [avoid] any explosive movements such as burpees, stag jumps, etc. as they are going to put excessive volume on the joints without a proper warmup, leading to a high risk of injury,” Crouchell said.

“Doing quick, coordinated workouts in the early morning may put you at risk for injury if your mind is not fully alert,” Barnes added.

Barnes also emphasized the importance of following your body’s natural rhythm, and respecting when you’re too tired — even if it doesn’t fit the “dream vision” of your perfect morning routine. This is especially true when it comes to lifting weights or anything you want to improve upon. Putting it off until later in the day ― when you’re more alert and your body is properly prepped ― could lead you to way better results.
