Mayim Bialik’s Mom Criticizes Her Wardrobe

Mayim Bialik says her mother was supportive when she was named the host of Jeopardy!, even though she wasn’t a fan of the game show.  “She was excited, but she didn’t know anything about what Jeopardy! is,” Bialik said on Wednesday’s edition of The Late Late Show with James Corden.  “She kept asking me, ‘Why is everything in a question?’ That’s a true story,” the actress explained.  “She will send me screenshots of every episode in case i forgot what i was wearing in that particular episode. I’ll get a little report: ‘I really like this blazer, not so crazy about the the top.'”  She said her mother always manages to capture unflattering images where she is in the middle of talking or her eyes are closed. “She’s got a whole half hour. Find a better screenshot! No,” she said.  She’s been hosting the show since 2021.

Queen’s Cause Of Death Revealed

Queen Elizabeth II’s official cause of death was released Thursday. The 96-year-old monarch died of old age!  The certificate, published by National Records of Scotland, records that Elizabeth died at Balmoral Castle in Ballater, Scotland, on Sept. 8 at 3.10 p.m. The document was signed by the queen’s daughter, Princess Anne.  The queen’s tomb is located inside the King George VI Memorial Chapel, part of St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.  St. George’s Chapel reopened to the public Thursday, and hundreds of people lined up outside Windsor to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth 10 days after she was laid to rest in the tomb.  The tomb is marked by a slab of hand-carved Belgian black marble. The queen’s name is inscribed on the ledger stone in brass letter inlays, alongside the names of her husband, mother and father.  To visit the chapel, royal fans must buy a ticket to Windsor Castle. The price for adults is 26.50 pounds ($28.75) Sunday through Friday, and 28.50 on Saturdays.

Stars React To Coolio’s Death

In the aftermath of rapper Coolio’s unexpected death, stars and fellow musicians are sharing their sadness and offering their condolences to his family. Coolio, who was 59, passed away at a friend’s house, his manager Jarez Posey says.  “We are saddened by the loss of our dear friend and client, Coolio, who passed away Wednesday afternoon,” the artist’s talent manager Sheila Finegan shared with Fox News Digital.  Several celebrities, many of who worked with Coolio, took to social media to share their shock and grief on the situation.  Snoop Dogg, who collaborated with Coolio on the track “Gangsta Walk” off of the late rapper’s “The Return of the Gangsta” album, simply shared a photo of the two on Instagram. Michelle Pfeiffer wrote on her Instagram, “Heartbroken to hear of the passing of the gifted artist @coolio. A life cut entirely too short. As some of you may know I was lucky enough to work with him on Dangerous Minds in 1995. He won a Grammy for his brilliant song on the soundtrack – which I think was the reason our film saw so much success. I remember him being nothing but gracious.”  LL Cool J shared his “love & respect” for Coolio in a tweet late Wednesday night. The two worked together on the 1996 track “Hit ‘em High (The Monstars’ Anthem)” for the “Space Jam” film with Michael Jordan. Ice Cube, the legendary rapper, took to Twitter to share his thoughts on witnessing “first hand this man’s grind to the top of the industry.”

George Clooney Opens Up About Parenting

George Clooney revealed that he and his wife Amal Clooney got in a sticky situation thanks to a poorly thought-out parenting choice.  Appearing on CBS Mornings on Wednesday, they gushed about their five-year-old twins after host Gayle King asked if they were “chatty.” “We’ve made a terrible mistake,” the actor said. “We taught them Italian.”  “But we don’t speak Italian,” he added. “So, we’ve armed them with a language they can harm us with. And we both don’t really know what they’re saying.”  Revealing their kids speak both Italian and French, George laughed, “I’m from Kentucky. English is my second language.” Amal, who is a barrister, described their son as “a big prankster” — and it’s all thanks to his famous dad. “You’ve taught him all of these lessons and now he’s pranking his dad back,” Amal told George.

Bruce Willis Sells His Image Rights

Bruce Willis sold his image rights to Deepcake, an artificial-intelligence-powered content optimization platform, after he was diagnosed with aphasia — a brain disorder that affects his ability to communicate — last year, according to the Daily Mail.  Engineers created a “digital twin” of Willis, putting images of his face onto its AI platform, where the engineers are able to create film projects in a matter of days.  His deepfake already made its debut in August 2021 when his face was “grafted” onto Konstantin Solovyov for a commercial for MegaFon, a Russian telecommunications company.  “With the advent of the modern technology, I could communicate, work and participate in filming, even being on another continent,” Willis said in a testimony on Deepcake’s website after the advertising project. “It’s a brand new and interesting experience for me, and I am grateful to our team.”  The technology used content from “Die Hard” and “Fifth Element,” so the actor’s face will be similar to images from those films.

Weightless Soccer

Portuguese soccer legend Luis Figo and a team of international players put their skills to the test in zero gravity to break a Guinness World Record for a high altitude game of soccer.  The Guinness World Record attempt, organized by Mastercard, saw Figo and a team of players from around the world boarded a plane specially outfitted with an on-board soccer field and the flight took a parabolic path to simulate zero gravity for the game at 20,230 feet.  The game officially broke the Guinness World Record for highest altitude game of football (soccer) on a parabolic flight.  “Football transcends boundaries and unites people around the world. I have played in stadiums where the electric atmosphere sparks emotions that cuts across cultures and nationalities; this was the exact same experience I had playing this beautiful game at 20,000 feet above ground with a group of fearless football fanatics taking their passion for the sport to unprecedented heights,” Figo said in the news release.  See the video HERE.

Bats Postpone Homecoming Dance

A California high school announced its homecoming dance will be rescheduled after bats were found living in the gymnasium.  The Davis Joint Unified School District said the dance at Davis Senior High School had been scheduled for Saturday, but will be instead be held at an undetermined date in the future due to the presence of bats in the gym.  After immediate consultation with Yolo County Animal Control and professionals who specialize in bat abatement, we learned we could not remove the bats from the gym in time for the dance,” the district said in a Facebook post.  “Unfortunately, we were unable to identify another option that maintains the safety of our students and staff. We will reschedule the dance as soon as possible.” Corky Quirk, a researcher and educator with rescue group Northern California Bats, said the school’s unwanted residents are likely Mexican free-tailed bats.  “These guys tend to be the culprits in the buildings,” Quirk told KOVR-TV.

Biggest Bobblehead

A Pennsylvania-based store chain celebrated its 40th anniversary by breaking a Guinness World Record with a bobblehead figure measuring 16 feet, 6.73 inches high.  Ollie’s Bargain Outlet unveiled the giant bobblehead, made in the image of store mascot Ollie, on Wednesday at the chain’s flagship location in Harrisburg.  “For 40 years, we’ve been committed to offering huge deals on brand name merchandise, so we wanted to create something big to help honor our anniversary, and what better than a 16-foot bobblehead?” said Ollie’s CEO and President John Swygert said in a news release.  Guinness rules required the bobblehead to be an oversized replica of an existing model, which Ollie’s sells as a promotional item.  The team behind the giant bobblehead used 3D modeling, hand sculpting, carving and painting to create the fully-functional bobblehead over the course of four months.

Cat Dispute Leads To Murder

A California woman has been charged with killing a man by ramming her car into him after accusing him of trying to run over a cat in the street, authorities said.  Hannah Star Esser, 20, was charged with murder in the death of Victor Anthony Luis, 43, and detained on $1 million bail, the Orange County prosecutor’s office said in a statement.  Esser was driving in the community of Cypress on Sunday night when she confronted Luis and accused him of trying to run over a cat, authorities said.  She and Luis both got out of their vehicles and got into an argument that Esser recorded, authorities said.  Esser then returned to her car, turned around, drove toward Luis and hit him, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.  “This action showed a complete disregard for human life,” District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in the statement.

5 Ways You’re Secretly Annoying The Host Of The Dinner Party

HUFFINGTON POST

1) You showed up late

Life happens, and delays can crop up, but you really need to do your best to curb the diva tendencies and show up as close as possible to the event’s start time. Especially if a sit-down dinner is involved, your butt will be most welcome in its assigned seat at the proper time. And, if you were tasked with bringing something that’s required for the meal, it’s doubly important to be prompt.

Candie Anderson is a lifestyle and entertaining blogger who frequently hosts parties. “A few years ago a guest arrived for a holiday celebration two hours late, and without the main dish they were supposed to bring,” she recalled. Perhaps to cover for their embarrassment or perhaps just because of bad manners, no apology was forthcoming.  Anderson now has a strategy for coping: “If you know that one of your guests perpetually runs late, you can invite them earlier than everyone else so they’re more likely to arrive on time. And don’t ask them to bring anything of great importance.”

2) Your ‘gift’ required work

Perhaps you’ve brought a wet, dripping bouquet that needs a vase. Or you’re bringing an appetizer that requires “access to the sink, a really sharp chef’s knife, an ovenproof bowl and — oh, you’ll need to start preheating the oven, too.”

Your job as a guest is to make everything easier for those throwing the party, not more of a headache. Put the flowers in a ready-to-be-gifted vase, even if it’s just a Mason jar. And remember that your host’s kitchen is not the place for you to flex your culinary muscles, so bring a ready-to-go dish or just buy a bag of ice, which is always appreciated.

3) You ruined the bathroom

Kate Arends Peters, owner of the lifestyle blog Wit & Delight, still remembers the time a guest had what she describes as “an incident” in her bathroom. “They left without telling me about it, and we had to clean it up,” she said.  What to do if you’re the hapless guest next time? Well, there’s always cleaning it up by yourself. Peters suggested that if you feel too embarrassed for words, you can try texting the host with a heads up.

You can prevent a similar incident in your own house. “It’s important to provide access to things guests might be embarrassed to ask for,” Peters suggested. “That’s especially important with bathrooms, so stock up on candles, spray and toilet paper, and keep them handy. That avoids embarrassment for everyone.”

4) You caused a major spill

For Robin Selden, managing partner of Marcia Selden Catering and Events, the trouble started in a wine glass — a very full red wine glass, to be specific.

“At a family party, my aunt flung her hand up, sending her red wine spinning like spin art on our brand-new white couch,” Selden recalled. “As you’d imagine, it was pretty devastating, since it couldn’t be cleaned and needed to be completely reupholstered. Thankfully, she did the right thing and paid for the new upholstery, so we still laugh about it now.”

In hindsight, she suggested that hosts with pale furnishings or carpets might limit drink options to those from a “blond bar,” with nothing that can stain.

5) You had a little too much fun

This one could also be filed under, “alcohol, overconsumption of.”

Seri Kertzner, chief party planner at Little Miss Party Planner, may not have seen it all, but she’s come pretty close. “We’ve had guests dance on top of rental tables in high heels,” she said. “That’s frightening because rental tables are great for dining at, but can be dangerous if stood — or danced — on.”

If things get out of hand at your next bash, Kertzner suggested setting an end time. “Instead of saying the party is at 7 p.m., for example, say it’s from 7 to 11 p.m.”

Still, don’t be afraid to get things under control. “We’ve had to take away car keys, turn off microphones and even had to shut down the bar,” she said.
