Irene Cara Dies

Irene Cara, award-winning singer of popular ‘80s songs “Fame” and “FlashdanceWhat a Feeling” has died. She was 63.  A statement was posted on early Saturday morning from her official Twitter account on behalf of her publicist. The cause of death is “currently unknown.”  “It is with profound sadness that on behalf of her family I announce the passing of Irene Cara,” the statement said.  “The Academy Award winning actress, singer, songwriter, and producer passed away in her Florida home. Her cause of death is currently unknown and will be released when information is available.”  “Irene’s family has requested privacy as they process their grief. She was a beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films. Funeral services are pending and a memorial for her fans will be planned at a future date,” the statement concluded.  Cara rose to stardom after being cast in the 1980 musical “Fame.”  Following her work on “Fame,” she was nominated for two Grammys for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Artist.

The Queen Had Thoughts On Harry and Meghan

Queen Elizabeth II thought grandson Prince Harry was “perhaps a little over-in-love” with his new bride Meghan Markle, according to an upcoming biography.  “This was as far as she came – to my knowledge at least – to ever uttering a word against the new Duchess of Sussex,” British broadcaster Gyles Brandreth wrote in “Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait.”  She was “truly delighted” when her grandson said he was marrying Markle, according to the book which will be released in December.  “She liked Meghan and told lots of people so. And she did everything she could to make her future granddaughter-in-law feel welcome,” according to the biography, an excerpt of which was published in the Daily Mail.  The Queen wasn’t even put off by the Sussexes infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey.  “I can tell you, because I know this, that the Queen was always more concerned for Harry’s well-being than about ‘this television nonsense’, meaning both the Oprah Winfrey interview – which caused so much controversy – and the lucrative deal the Sussexes made with Netflix,” wrote Brandreth, a former MP who has long known the royal family.  He wrote that the monarch was “was anxious that Harry should ‘find his feet’ in California and ‘find really useful things to do’. “  Brandreth also revealed in the book that he “had heard that the Queen had a form of myeloma — bone marrow cancer — which would explain her tiredness and weight loss and those ‘mobility issues’ we were often told about during the last year or so of her life.”
********”A little over in love” was the Queen’s way of saying, “She’s got him by the short ones!!!”
*******She also called Harry her “little ginger snap!!!”
*****She had thoughts about Charles, too!! “Why couldn’t he be nice to Diana, and cheat with Camilla?? He could ride horse-face around the room any time he wanted!!!”

Elon Musk Credits The Simpsons For His Twitter Takeover

The Simpsons have done the unpossible again.  Elon Musk is highlighting a 2015 episode from the show that seemingly hinted at his Twitter takeover.  “Simpson’s predicts I buy Twitter S26E12,” Musk, 51, tweeted Saturday.  The episode, titled “The Musk Who Fell to Earth,” begins by showing Lisa Simpson tending to a birdhouse with a sign that reads, “Home Tweet Home.” She is feeding baby birds when a bald eagle snaps them up and kills them.  As the eagle flies into the distance, Musk arrives in his rocket ship. Fire from the aircraft incinerates the eagle — a longtime emblem of the U.S.  “Brace yourselves, family. We are about to meet a being with intelligence far beyond ours,” Homer Simpson says before directing Bart to grab his baseball bat.  Musk takes off his space helmet and identifies himself: “Hello, I’m Elon Musk.”  Homer hurls the bat at his head. Lisa yells, “Dad, no! Elon Musk is possibly the greatest living inventor.”  The camera pans to a new technologically advanced birdhouse that has attracted several birds.

JLo Has A New Song About Ben Affleck

Jennifer Lopez revealed on Friday — the 20th anniversary of her album “This Is Me … Then” — that she has new music on the way inspired by Ben Affleck.  She shared the tracklist for her 2023 album “This Is Me … Now” via Instagram, which includes “Dear Ben pt. ll.”  Fans immediately freaked out over the song title, which references the “Dear Ben” ballad that J.Lo released in 2002 — the first time she dated Affleck.  “DEAR BEN PART 2 I’M ON THE FLOOR!! YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT,” one follower commented.  “Dear Ben part 2 OMGGG I’m gonna cryyyyy,” another added, and a third wrote, “NOT DEAR BEN PT 2.”

Shakira Speaks Out On Tax Trial

Shakira has released a statement ahead of a trial that could see her sentenced to eight years in jail.  She has been accused of failing to pay 14.5 million euros (£13 million) in taxes on income earned between 2012 and 2014.  Prosecutors have alleged she spent more than half of that period in Spain and should have paid taxes in the country, even though her official residence was in the Bahamas.  This week, Shakira – who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing – said she feels ‘violated’ by Spanish tax authorities.  “It is unacceptable that, in its accusation, the tax authorities are not respecting the legal certainty that must be guaranteed to any taxpayer, not my fundamental rights,” she said.  “As well as that they are trying to damage a reputation earned with the work of many years… in my case they have violated my right to privacy and the presumption of innocence, basic rights of any citizen.”  Her representatives added: “What actually occurred were sporadic presences, thus resulting in an accusation based on mere conjecture.  The statement also indicated that Shakira would not be making a deal and was prepared to go to trial to prove her innocence.  “Shakira continues to maintain her firm will to comply with all her tax obligations in Spain, as well as in all the countries where she has resided or performed during her long professional career,” it continues.

Giant Goldfish

A British angler who cast his line at a carp fishery in France had his photos go viral after he reeled in a monster 67.4-pound goldfish.  Bluewater Lakes, a carp fishery in Champagne, posted photos to Facebook showing Andy Hackett, 42, posing with his prize catch, a massive goldfish known locally as “The Carrot.”  The fishery said the goldfish was put into the lake 15 years ago to give anglers something interesting to catch, but it wasn’t until last year that the fish was noted to have grown to a size in excess of 60 pounds.  Bluewater Lakes shared a video of The Carrot being returned to the water after being weighed and photographed.

Stowaway Cat Found In X-Ray Machine

Security staff at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport noticed something unusual in the X-ray of a traveler’s bag: a stowaway cat.  The Transportation Security Administration said agents monitoring the baggage X-rays at the airport noticed what appeared to be the outline of an animal.  “The bag was opened by a TSA officer, who was shocked to see a live orange cat inside,” TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein told The Washington Post.  TSA agents told Delta Airlines about the discovery, and the airline was able to locate the owner of the bag, who was preparing to fly to Orlando, Fla.  The bag’s owner said the cat belongs to another member of his family. The man was able to rebook another flight for the next day so he could take the cat home.  See the pic HERE.

Oldest Living Dog

A California dog named Gino has been named the oldest dog living by Guinness World Records after the canine was confirmed to be over 22 years old.  Owner Alex Wolf said he and his college roommates adopted the then-2-year-old dog from Colorado’s Humane Society of Boulder Valley in 2002.  “He’s been there every step of the way,” Wolf told TODAY.com. “I’m so glad we got him. He’s the best.”  Guinness World Records verified Gino was born Sept. 24, 2000, earning him the title of oldest dog living.  The previous record-holder, a canine named TobyKeith, is also still living, but is only 21 years old.  Wolf attributed Gino’s continuing good health to a balanced diet, veterinary care and the canine’s own zest for life.  “I give him all the credit,” Wolf said. “He’s gotten a lot of love, and I think he’s just a strong dog.”

Giant Guacamole

A Mexican city’s inaugural Avocado Expo featured a Guinness World Record being broken when a team of 300 cooks mixed up 10,957 pounds of guacamole.  The Avocado Expo in Periban, Michoacan, officially broke the Guinness World Record for largest serving of guacamole, a record previously set by an 8,351.1 serving of guac mixed up in Tancitaro, Michoacan, in 2018.  The dish included more than 10 tons of Periban-grown avocados, as well as onions, tomatoes, serrano pepper, lime and cilantro.  No Guinness World Records adjudicators were present for the event, but the organization was able to verify the record from afar via livestream.

7 Ways To Make Holiday Travel Just A Tiny Bit Less Stressful This Year

HUFFINGTON POST

Plan ahead

If you’re worried about sudden changes to your travel itinerary, it may be helpful to make a plan ahead of time.  Vasan recommends thinking of potential situations like flight cancellations, weather changes and lost baggage. You can then incorporate steps such as knowing alternate flight options or taking only carry-ons, if you have the option to do so.

“Having a ‘crisis plan’ in place can decrease your feelings of anxiety because you already know what to do if something disrupts your itinerary,” she said.

Balance your itinerary

Trying to fit everything into your trip, from visiting multiple family members to touring new places, can be a lot.  “Don’t feel obligated to make a fully booked travel itinerary or feel like you have to be productive at all times. Focus on spending quality time with others and make sure to spend some time for yourself to take care of your mental health,” said Katie Duke, a nurse practitioner and member of FIGS’ health care advisory board.

If you’re traveling for an organized event like a holiday, give yourself some space before or afterward to take a relaxing break. Duke recommends doing something that gives you joy, like taking a walk outdoors or grabbing your favorite drink at a local cafe.

Practice mindfulness

Mindfulness, the ability to be present in the moment, has been associated with reduced anxiety. There are many ways to practice mindfulness, like focusing on your breathing, journaling how you’re feeling, or engaging in a guided meditation.  “The physical action of taking a few deep breaths can be really useful in releasing stress and promoting a state of calm,” Vasan said.

Entertain yourself

During your journey, you may find yourself spending more time waiting than planned due to delays. While this may be stressful, think of it as an opportunity to do something fun and entertaining to boost your mood, Vasan said.  Be creative and engage in an activity you enjoy, like finding a new book to read, starting a new TV series, drawing or even listening to a podcast episode.

Stay hydrated

It’s easy to forget to drink water throughout the day, especially during the colder months. Make sure you’re drinking enough water this holiday season, said Supriya Lal, a registered dietitian based in New York City.  “Staying hydrated will not only help our bodily functions, but also help improve our mood and energy levels,” Lal said.

Rest

Whether you are on the road or taking a train, the journey to and from your destination may make it difficult to get enough shut-eye. Prioritize sleep while traveling by aiming to get at least the recommended seven hours of rest each night.

“Getting enough rest is essential to be able to regulate your stress and channel healthy coping mechanisms,” Vasan said.

Give yourself some positive self-talk

The unanticipated changes you may experience during your travel journey can feel overwhelming, but remember that it’s out of your control. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

“Tell yourself that your emotions right now are completely valid. Engaging in positive self-talk can uplift your mood and decrease stress,” Duke said.
