Pete Davidson Owns His Own Ferry
A retired Staten Island Ferry boat put up for auction by New York City was bought by Saturday Night Live stars Colin Jost and Pete Davidson, along with a club owner. A representative for Jost, Davidson and Stand comedy-club co-owner Paul Italia confirmed the trio were the ones who placed the winning $280,100 bid for the John F. Kennedy, which shuttled commuters between Staten Island and Manhattan for 50 years before being retired due to “mechanical issues” in August. The boat’s mechanical problems are not expected to be an issue, however, as the buyers plan to find it a permanent waterfront home and convert it into a live entertainment space and event venue. The rep said the 5,200-person capacity boat would host comedy performances, art events and serve food.

Schwarzenegger Involved In Crash
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s representative said he’s “fine” after a multi-vehicle car collision. “He is fine, his only concern right now is for the woman who was injured,” his publicist told People.com. The Los Angeles Police Department said four vehicles were involved in the incident and one woman was taken to a hospital to be treated for an abrasion on her head. Police said neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to have been factors in the crash. TMZ reported Schwarzenegger was driving a Yukon sport utility vehicle and making a left at the time if the collision, which caused him to roll over onto a Prius and a Porsche Cayenne.

Nick and Priyanka Have Baby By Surrogate
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra have announced the birth of their first child together. “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate,” both Nick Jonas and Chopra said Friday on their Instagram accounts. “We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much,” they continued. They were married in December 2018 and had two wedding ceremonies, one Christian and one Hindu. Nick Jonas is the latest Jones Brother to welcome a baby. Kevin Jonas and his wife Danielle Jonas are the parents to 7-year-old daughter Alena Rose and 5-year-old daughter Valentina Angelina. Mission Impossible Films Delayed
Tom Cruise’s next two “Mission: Impossible” films have been delayed once again due to the ongoing pandemic. Paramount Pictures and Skydance announced Friday that the release of “Mission: Impossible 7” will be pushed from Sept. 20 to July 14, 2023. “Mission: Impossible 8,” previously set for July 2023, will instead open June 28, 2024. The date shift comes as somewhat of a surprise, as the “Mission: Impossible 7″ set was noted for being among the first productions to safely resume filming as the virus continued to spread. It was reported early last year that Cruise, a producer on the flicks, enlisted robots to help him enforce safety protocols on the movie sets, having dropped “huge sums” of money to do so. Furthermore, he reportedly shelled out $700,000 for the film’s cast and crew to live on cruise ships in order to maintain isolation. Shooting on “Mission: Impossible 7” was put on hiatus in early 2020 because of COVID-19. After filming resumed in the summer of 2020, principal photography ultimately concluded by September 2021. The franchise planned to shoot the seventh and eighth films back-to-back but reportedly scrapped the ambitious plans nearly a year ago due to the pandemic. Cruise has since been seen filming for the eighth flick.

Prince William Spearheaded Andrew’s Ban From Royal Family
Queen Elizabeth II is turning to her heir amid Prince Andrew’s ongoing sexual assault case. Royal expert Kristin Contino recently made this claim, saying the reigning monarch has been relying on Prince William for advice. Contino also says the Duke of Cambridge was involved in the decision to strip his uncle of his military affiliations and royal patronages. “William, in fact, was very involved in this decision, and it’s been said that he met with the queen in person ahead of their announcement that came out last week,” Contino reported to Us Weekly. “I think that really shows – and I think that’s interesting – his growing influence and how she trusts his judgment and is looking for his advice. “And I think that’s a great sign of things to come for William and how much she is relying on talking to him and his counsel,” Contino added. “Charles, of course, was involved in that decision too,” the author told the outlet. “But I think [what] a lot of people thought was interesting is William’s heavy involvement in that. So I think she really is leaning on her two heirs at this time [to] help make those sort of big family decisions.”

Adele struggled to hold back tears as she spoke with fans who had schlepped to Las Vegas to see her perform on Thursday only to have the show canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice. One call took place in a pop-up store selling merchandise such as $50 t-shirts, sweatshirts ranging in price from $90 to $110, and $75 bottles of her favorite Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir wine, which usually sells for $40. Each ticket holder received a free gift bag designed to take the sting out of having her abruptly pull out of her performance. When the fans gushed about the store she told them: “Don’t buy anything, you’ve already spent enough f—ing money.” In another call, Adele offered a free drink token to a pair of disappointed concert-goers before quickly reneging on the proposal after realizing they were underage. She did however tell them that she put her heart and soul into the production. “I love you too, I’m so sorry and I can’t wait to meet you, alright,” the Grammy winner said. “Get your free bag – and you’re not old enough to drink are you so you can’t have that free drink token. Princes Andrew and Charles once battled over the bathroom, and the royal row got so heated the Queen had to intervene. It happened Christmastime 1999 at Sandringham Estate, northeast of London, when Younger brother Andrew, then 39, refused to remove his toiletries from a bathroom earmarked for Prince Charles, 51, The Sun reported. “We were told not to move anything and not to touch anything in that bathroom because there was an ‘ongoing situation,’” Janette McGowan, then a Buckingham Palace maid who traveled with the royal family, told the outlet. “When members of the Royal Family travel to Sandringham they are each allocated rooms and a bathroom. “But Prince Andrew took the bathroom that was allocated for the Prince of Wales and he wouldn’t budge and refused to take his stuff out of it. It turned into a bizarre stand-off.” It took the queen to “defuse the situation,” McGowan said. “She actually had to have words with Andrew and say to him that he had to use the other bathroom and that was when he finally backed down. “He was almost 40 at the time. It was very odd behavior for someone of that age,” she continued. Prince Andrew has a history of petulant outbursts and has not gained any favor with his family in the years since. Another servant recently reported that the Duke of York would “shout and scream” if somebody misplaced the teddy bears kept in his Buckingham Palace bedroom.

Drone Used To Rescue Dog
Rescuers working to draw a runaway dog away from dangerous mud flats in England lured the canine to safety by attaching a sausage to a drone. Volunteer organization Denmead Drone Search and Rescue was contacted to help when Millie, a Jack Russell terrier and whippet mix, slipped her collar while out on a walk in Hampshire, England, and ended up on mud flats that are known to flood in high tide. Rescuers working with the local coast guard, firefighters and police were unable to reach Millie on foot or in kayaks, and they determined the dog was spooked and would flee when she caught a glimpse of her would-be saviors. “One of the guys said, as a last resort, why don’t we try tying a sausage to a drone?” DDSI volunteer Stefani Dennis told CNN. “This was day three, she’d been there on the mud flats for two days.” A neighbor who lives by the beach volunteered to cook sausages and attached them to the team’s drones with string. “The string was tied around the body of the drone and around the sausage to make it dangle around 2 or 3 meters [6.5-9.8 feet] — it was very hard to gauge how close you were to the ground but it worked somehow,” Dennis said. “People were walking by and didn’t know what was going on, it was hilarious.” Dennis said the drone-lifted sausages were successful in drawing Millie’s attention. “She was very hungry and got hold of it at one point — and almost took the drone with her, she got about half a sausage,” she said. Frozen Potato Highway
Transportation officials in Minnesota said a stretch of highway was closed Thursday when a truck lost its load of potatoes and the spuds froze in place on the road. The Minnesota Department of Transportation said a truck crashed Thursday morning in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 in Albertville, near Wright County Road 19. MnDOT said special equipment needed to be brought to the scene because the spilled potatoes were freezing to the road. The highway was closed to all traffic except for emergency vehicles during the clean-up, which was completed about 9:45 a.m. Officials said no injuries were reported.

Elsa Arrested Over Cold Weather
After a snowstorm froze over the eastern portion of the United States, South Carolina police released bodycam footage showing the arrest of a well-known ice queen. The “rare” footage showed Elsa from Disney’s Frozen franchise reveling in the freshly fallen snow that blanketed the scenery around her. Then, she spotted the police — and ran. Elsa soon gave up the chase. “Come on guys, just let it go,” she could be heard saying. No one was “injured or severely frozen,” the Pickens Police Department said on its Facebook page. “Her accomplice, the abominable snowman, is still at large. He has unleashed more snow and ice. Help us find him.” The department used the short parody to include a reminder for motorists to be safe on the roads while driving. The annual Elsa sighting marked only one of several common sights across North America that give winter its fantastical charm.

Crazy Tennessee Woman
A Tennessee woman allegedly chopped her dad with an ax and punched her grandpa in the face before they disarmed and subdued her, according to authorities. Nevada Fortson, a 25-year-old, faces charges of aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, violating an order of protection and resisting arrest in Carter County after allegedly breaking into their home despite an order of protection from her mother. The county sheriff’s office says she hitched a ride to her grandpa’s house, where he lived with her parents, and broke in through a guestroom window with an ax around 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday. The suspect’s 64-year-old father, Doug Fortson, encountered her in the hallway with the ax and told police that she hit him with it three times before he could wrestle it out of her grip. Her grandfather, Glenn Hayes, helped subdue her – but not before she gave him a black eye, the complaint alleges. Jail records show Nevada Fortson was being held at the Carter County Jail on $130,000 bond. She had also been jailed after allegedly violating an order of protection last month and has prior charges of resisting arrest, domestic assault, trespassing and more within the last three months.

7 Signs Of A Toxic Workplace You Can Spot On Your Very First Day

- No one bothers to welcome or include you on your first day.
When you are new, colleagues should make an active effort to make you feel welcomed. If they act like they could not care less about your arrival, that can speak to deeper issues within the organization.
“If people are like, ‘I don’t have time,’ or show an unwillingness to help you learn or introduce you, that’s a warning sign,” Abbajay said. “You can tell when people are stressed. Are they harried, are they curt? That’s not a sign of a healthy work culture.”
Gregory Tall, a workshop facilitator who coaches managers and has over 15 years of experience in human resources, said that this can happen in remote jobs, too. Case in point: If there is no effort to introduce you or give you any advance prep in Zoom calls on your first day, that’s a red flag.
If your new colleagues aren’t welcoming, it might not have anything to do with you personally. It could be a signal that your co-workers are not proud to work at the organization and don’t want to lie about it to you.
“They are not pretending anymore. They are not coming up and saying, ‘We are so excited you are here,’ because they know it sucks and they don’t want to be false to themselves that it’s all good,” Tall said.
- You witness rude behavior that no one stops ― not even your boss.
If you notice on your first day that it’s normal to belittle colleagues and clients over email or in conversations, that’s a bad sign.
The key difference between a stressful environment and a toxic one is that a toxic job normalizes treating people disrespectfully. “A toxic culture is when the humans in that environment are treated poorly, are dehumanized either through abrasive leadership or gaslighting or through screaming, shouting,” Abbajay said.
You don’t want to linger in these kinds of environments. Being a bystander to incivility has long-term negative consequences, because bad behavior is contagious. In a series of experiments published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, researchers found that the more people saw and were subject to rudeness at work, the more likely they were to become rude and hostile themselves.
“If that kind of public behavior is tolerated, that means it’s a cultural norm,” Abbajay said.
Keep in mind that if it’s your boss who is not stopping bad behavior, that makes the red flag even bigger.
“If you experience anything on the first day… where your manager does not have your back, that is your sign to get the résumé out immediately,” Tall said. “That is supposed to be your number one advocate.”
- Co-workers are too eager to gossip about colleagues in front of you.
If you are new to your organization and you already have people lined up to trash talk leaders on your team, that’s a bad sign.
A place where people feel free to make accusations about co-workers when they are not in the chat or in the room is a place where office drama matters more than getting work done.
“A culture that allows allows toxic rampant gossip is toxic,” Abbajay said.
- You learn that no one has stayed longer than a few months.
Ideally, if there is a role or team with high turnover, a recruiter or hiring manager will make that clear to you in the interview process and explain why that is. If you are the third person to hold your role in a year, that shouldn’t be a surprise.
If you find this out on day one and not during your interview process, that’s a sign that the manager purposefully withheld this information, Tall said.
“It’s a big deal to switch jobs … Many people will try to stick it out for a while,” he said. “If you are seeing a lot of folks who are just there for a few months at a time, that indicates they are reaching their decision to move on pretty quickly or it means they are being fired pretty quickly.”
- The company is proud to show off values they should not be proud of.
When you start a new job, you will be introduced to what the organization really considers important, whether they mean to reveal it or not.
Tall recalled the headquarters of one client, where the company proudly showed its 150 years of history via photos in the atrium.
“I’m going through 150 years and I did not see a single Black person or person of color,” Tall said. “That alone to me speaks volumes. The fact that that is curated, and they are showing that intentionally as a reflection of ‘who we are over the past 150 years’ — to me that is just as bad if it’s intentional or unintentional.”
- The expectations of the job you interviewed for are radically different in reality.
In a good onboarding process, your manager meets with you early so that you can get aligned on what success means for the role and what your duties are. In a toxic work environment, you may have little clarity on what your role is and find yourself doing work you did not sign up for.
Tall said to watch out for any glaringly different expectations than those you discussed in the interview process, including anything related to salary, work hours, job duties and flexibility options.
“You know when you get that first project request and it’s like, ‘Wait a minute, that’s not what was in the posting I read.’ I think those are early signs you might have gotten into something that is different than what you expected,” Tall said.
It can also be a symptom of an understaffed team that needs new people to fill in for other roles that they might not be equipped to do.
Staying in a job like this can set you up for failure because you will then be evaluated based on duties you don’t have the skills for, Tall said.
- You finish your first day filled with dread about the next.
There’s a big difference between first-day jitters and dread. How you feel being around the people you will spend thousands of hours with is not something to ignore.
When in doubt about a new job, listen to your gut.
“If you are feeling dread or unhappiness, those are important [emotions] to check into,” Abbajay said. “How do you feel when you are in this organization with those people? We all know that emotions are contagious.”
