Valerie Bertinelli Thanks Fans For Support

An emotional Valerie Bertinelli took to Instagram to thank her fans for their outpouring of support after trolls criticized her weight.  She said she no longer feels so alone as her followers commented on her heartfelt video with messages of praise.  “Thank you. There’s so much kindness out there. I certainly do not feel so alone anymore,” she began her video. “It’s the shame part that’s really hard to get rid of. That stupid emotion that is absolutely useless.”  She then joked it was time to “get back to me posting some delicious recipes” and move on from the trolls.  She posted a tearful video to internet trolls late Thursday after she made the “mistake” of reading through her social media comments and saw some of them told her she needed to lose weight.  “Because see, I don’t have a scale or I don’t have clothes that I’m trying to put on every day, and I don’t have mirrors so I don’t see what’s become of me,” she said sarcastically, holding back tears. “So I needed that help to let me know that I need to lose weight. “You’re not being helpful,” she continued. “Because when you see somebody who has put some weight on, my first thought is, ‘That person is obviously going through some things.’”  Bertinelli has gone “through some things” over the past year — her ex-husband, Eddie Van Halen, died last year after a battle with throat cancer. He was 65 years old.
********Fans got concerned when they saw her in an eight-piece bikini!!! (Now WE’RE not helping!!)

Drake Rents Out Stadium For Date Night

Drake rented out Dodger Stadium for an intimate date with model Johanna Leia in Los Angeles Thursday.  He was spotted wining and dining Leia at a table for two along the baseball field, where the pair sat side by side with a bartender stationed nearby.  “@DRAKE ON A DATE? Randomly just flew over this cozy couple enjoying a private dinner along the third base line at an empty Dodger Stadium from #Air7HD@ABC7#Drizzy,” ABC7 helicopter reporter Chris Christi tweeted early Friday.   The outlet’s footage shows Leia was seen wearing a Dodgers jersey while the rapper rocked his signature sweater look. Their table had champagne glasses and various vases filled with flowers on it.  Drake’s rep had no comment.

Marilyn Manson Surrenders For Snot Rocket!

Marilyn Manson surrendered to Los Angeles authorities Thursday in connection with assault charges he faces in New Hampshire.  He was released without bail after turning himself in at a Hollywood police station.  Under a deal reached with the Gilford, NH Police Department, Manson will travel to New England in August to be arraigned on two misdemeanor charges stemming from an incident in which the rocker allegedly spit on a camerawoman during a 2019 concert.   “He was spitting everywhere and one time it got on her camera so she wiped it off and looked semi-irritated,” one witness told the magazine.  “I think her final straw is he got on the floor, got within 2-3 feet of her and hacked a giant snot rocket at her, not the camera. She was pissed off and disgusted so she stormed off and he just laughed.”  Manson’s attorney called the claim “ludicrous,” but said he is “committed to cooperating with authorities,” according to the article.  If convicted, Manson could face a jail sentence of less than one year and a fine of up to $2,000, according to the report.
******He’s written a song about it: “Booger Nights!!!”
*******He’s probably glad to pay $2,000 for the thrill of nailing somebody with a snot rocket!!

Meghan And Harry Awarded For Having 2 Kids

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are being applauded by a U.K. charity that believes one way to save the environment is by limiting couples to only having two children.  They are the recipients of Population Matters’ “special award,” which gives a nod to the couple for previously announcing their decision to have at most two children.  “In choosing and publicly declaring their intention to limit their family to two, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are helping to ensure a better future for their children, and providing a role model for other families,” the organization writes of the couple on its website.   Population Matters recalled Harry’s revelation about expanding his family in a chat with Dr. Jane Goodall for Vogue in 2019. When discussing his future as a father, Harry said he planned to have, “Two, maximum!”  He also discussed how his philanthropy efforts and travels around the world as a former working member of the British royal family opened his eyes up to the benefits of preserving the environment.  Population Matters also recalled Harry stating that humans around the world “should be able to leave something better behind for the next generation.”  “We commend the Duke and Duchess for taking this enlightened decision, and for affirming that a smaller family is also a happy family,” the organization added.

Lottery Zeroes Win Big

Lottery officials in North Carolina said a Carolina Pick 3 drawing came out with the numbers 0-0-0, resulting in nearly 10,000 players winning a total $3.6 million.  The North Carolina Education Lottery said the Friday afternoon Carolina Pick 3 drawing resulted in that combination.  The lottery said 9,307 tickets were purchased with the combination, officials said.  Carolina Pick 3’s top prize is $250 for a 50-cent ticket and $500 for a $1 ticket.  “Pick 3 players loved ‘trips,'” the lottery said in a news release. “The combination of three of the same numbers are some of the most popular combinations played. The odds of matching all three numbers in a Pick 3 drawing are 1 in 1,000.”

Wizard Of Oz Dress Found In A Box

A long-lost dress worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz has been found decades later in a box at a university in Washington, D.C.  Catholic University announced in a news release that the dress, which was gifted to the school nearly 50 years ago by actress Mercedes McCambridge while she was serving as the drama department’s artist-in-residence, was found by drama department lecturer Matt Ripa in a box placed atop some mail slots near his desk.  Ripa said he had often gone searching for the dress during his free time after hearing about the long-lost item in 2014, but he was apparently beaten to the discovery by Thomas Donahue, a now-retired drama professor, who had placed the box in Ripa’s office before leaving the school last year.  Ripa said the box must have been placed atop the mail slots by someone, causing it to evade his notice until last month.  “As soon as I popped the top off the box, I knew what it was,” Ripa told The Washington Post. “I saw that blue gingham and I just started laughing and laughing. I mean, I’m still laughing. Because I was shocked, holding a piece of Hollywood history right in my hands.”

Bear Escapes Zoo

A bear being temporarily housed at a New Mexico zoo escaped from its habitat, but was recaptured safely after she climbed to the top of her enclosure.  The city of Roswell said Winnie, a female black bear being temporarily housed at the Spring River Zoo while the bear enclosure at the Alameda Park Zoo in Alamogordo undergoes repairs, found a small hole in the chain-link fence at the rear of the enclosure and ripped it open large enough to fit through.  A city spokesman said Winnie did not wander from the area.  “She just climbed up to the top of the enclosure. She was just sitting on top and she didn’t get any further,” spokesman Todd Wildermuth told the Roswell Daily Record.  Wildermuth said officers from the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish tranquilized Winnie and workers returned the bear to her enclosure. He said a veterinarian examined the animal and determined it was not injured.

Tips For Finding Flight Deals Now That Everything Is So Expensive

Huffington Post

Prioritize cost over date and destination.

“To book cheap flights, you must make cheap flights a priority,” said Darci Valiente, a senior member operations specialist at Scott’s Cheap Flights.

“All too often when people think about booking a vacation, they first sit down and think about where and when they want to go,” she explained. “Imagine you and some friends are planning to take a trip together and it is decided, ‘Let’s go to Greece for the last two weeks of August.’ As a result, when you go to book your flight, you’ll likely end up paying $1,200 round-trip for one ticket to Athens for your dates.”

It’s common to prioritize destination and dates over cost, particularly for families limited by school holiday schedules. But if you’re able to take another approach, Valiente advises beginning your search by asking, for example, “Where are there cheap flights to out of our airport?” and “Are there any destinations that are cheap in August?”

“In [this] scenario, you might find that there are $480 roundtrip fares to Rome available for the first two weeks of August,” she said. “You and your friends book these tickets instead, have a great time in Italy, and save $720 per person on airfare.”

Use flight search engines.

“If you’re looking to find affordable flights, you should always use a source that aggregates flights from numerous airlines so you can compare the rates,” Trifari said.

This can be useful for search purposes even if you intend to book through the official carrier ― though you may change your mind.

“You may find certain websites can shave a bit off from the bottom price, scoring you an even better deal than had you booked directly through an airline’s own website,” Trifari said.

He advised checking out websites like Skyscanner, Expedia, Google Flights and CheapOair to score good deals. Brian Kelly, CEO and founder of The Points Guy, told HuffPost he recommends Orbitz, Travelocity, Hotwire and CheapTickets as well.

In addition to comparison-based search engines, there are other tools aimed at helping travelers find affordable options.

If you’re willing to give up “some of the comforts of travel such as taking direct flights, you can use booking tools like Skiplagged to discover connecting flights that have layovers to secure a better deal,” Trifari suggested. “The trade-off is that it will take you longer to arrive at your destination, since you may have to stop at one or two other airports along the way.”

Set up alerts.

Not everyone has the time to check different websites for flight deals every day, and even if you do, sometimes limited offers appear and disappear quickly. That’s why it’s helpful to set up alerts with your platform of choice, so you receive an email or push notification when prices fall.

“Setting up price alerts will ensure you’re the first to know as prices drop with any additional discounts or added supply,” said Mark Crossey, U.S. travel expert for Skyscanner. “You can mark a flight you’re interested in, and Skyscanner will email you whenever the price goes up or down.”

Valiente similarly plugged Scott’s Cheap Flights as a way to get email alerts when bargains pop up. Google Flights, Kayak and other travel websites also offer fare-change notification features.

Be flexible with airlines.

“If you are trying to find a good deal, be flexible with alternative dates, airports, and airlines,” Kelly said. “Consider flying out and in on different dates, in and out of different airports, and flying on a different airline that you might not typically fly.”

Flexibility can involve booking with airlines you don’t usually fly, or even combining carriers within the same trip.

“It’s not just a summer fashion trend. Mix-and-matching the airlines you choose to fly with can seriously cut costs,” Crossey said. “Fares don’t have to be booked as returns. Look at flying out with one airline and back with another to save money.”

He noted that Skyscanner has tools that calculate the cheapest month to travel to certain destinations, and lets users search within a given month to find and identify the most affordable dates.

“Flight prices are all based on supply and demand. Because some dates are more popular than others, prices will vary,” he said. “Consider traveling a day before or a day after your original departure dates. Flying on less popular days of the week is always cheaper.”

If carrier flexibility isn’t giving you great options, it may be time to dip into the miles you’ve accumulated from previous airline loyalty. You might also have vouchers from flights you had to cancel due to the pandemic, or even credit card reward points.

“If you’re not still finding any deals, consider using a travel voucher or see the what the flight would cost in points vs. cash,” Kelly said. “Remember ― never pay more in points than you would in cash!”

Don’t ignore less popular places.

Of course, many destinations are popular ― and therefore expensive ― for a reason: They’re wonderful to visit. But that doesn’t mean they’re the only places where you can have a great vacation.

Ask the seasoned travelers in your life to share their favorite under-the-radar destinations. Search for lists predicting future hot spots, follow travel bloggers’ recommendations or even spin a globe and see where your finger lands.

“Generally speaking, the best deals out there are to places where travel is now open, but consumer demand doesn’t match the number of unfilled airplane seats,” Valiente said. “Inversely, places that are open but have high demand means fewer unfilled seats on planes and higher fares.”

If international travel options are looking too pricey or risky, consider the many amazing destinations within the U.S.

“The year 2020 saw new destinations rise in popularity as corridors shone a light on some surprising gems,” Crossey said. “Swapping your usual break in Cancun for Florida or California could be an unexpected delight.”

Be mindful of your fare options.

Try to be thorough when exploring your options and making comparisons. Sometimes the deals that seem the most affordable involve hidden fees or an inflexibility that may end up costing more in the long run.

“Booking basic economy fares or ultra low cost airlines might be more expensive than a regular fare when you factor in fees, and also that basic economy tickets no longer get free changes,” Kelly said. “Cheap can be expensive!”

Similarly, you might find a rare opportunity to fly business class without having to splurge. A couple of months ago, Valiente was able to snag business class tickets to Athens this summer for the same price an economy ticket is now going for.

“While we have seen economy fares stabilize in the last couple of months, business and first class fares remain much lower than normal,” Valiente said. “This is largely due to the lack of company-paid trips and in-person business meetings. If you are looking to splurge or normally upgrade to regular economy, be sure to check the cost of non-economy fares as well. The price may be closer to the economy than you might think.”

Crossey emphasized the importance of flexibility with change policies, especially since we’re still living through a pandemic.

“In the past, being flexible with travel might have meant flying at anti-social times to get a good price. But now with a constantly changing travel landscape, it’s important to know what the change policies are on flight tickets and accommodation,” he explained. “Choosing these flexible options can sometimes be much cheaper than package deals and, of course, allows for a personally tailored trip.”

Pay attention to when you’re booking.

“For domestic flights, it is usually best to book one to three months in advance,” Trifari said. “For international trips, I find three to eight months is best.”

He also recommended avoiding Friday or Sunday flights if possible, since weekends are the busiest days for airlines, and prices tend to rise with the demand.
