Bruce Willis Returns To Nakatomi Plaza
Bruce Willis returned to the scene of one of his most memorable movies, Die Hard, in a new video posted on Instagram this weekend. “Nakatomi Plaza 34 years later #happymovieanniversary #diehard@20thcenturystudios,” his wife, Emma Heming Wilson, captioned Friday’s video, which interspersed current footage of the actor standing on the Los Angeles skyscraper’s roof with clips from the action film. The movie — which co-starred Alan Rickman and Bonnie Bedelia — opened in theaters July 15, 1988. It was followed by four sequels, all led by Willis. The last movie, A Good Day to Die Hard, premiered in 2013. Baby Yoda Accused Of ID Theft
Gremlins director Joe Dante says he sees similarities between his franchise’s Gizmo and the Baby Yoda character that’s at the heart of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. Dante told the San Francisco Chronicle that he attributes fans’ continued fondness for his 1984 cult favorite Gremlins and its 1990 sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch to the lovable Mogwai named Gizmo, voiced in the films by Howie Mandel. “I think the longevity of [the films] is really key to this one character [Gizmo], who is essentially like a baby,” Dante told the publication in a video chat. “Which brings me, of course, to the subject of Baby Yoda, who is completely stolen and is just out-and-out copied. Shamelessly, I would think.” Zach Galligan, who stars in Gremlins and its sequel, addressed the similarity between the two characters in an Entertainment Weekly interview in 2021. The actor acknowledged having seen memes “that sort of poke fun at the similarity” of the two characters but did not appear to have a problem with the look of Baby Yoda, aka Grogu. Armie Hammer Cut Off From Family Fortune
Armie Hammer has been “cut off” from the family dynasty established by his great-grandfather, Armand Hammer. “His dad won’t help him anymore and he’s been cut off, so he got to work,” a source told People of the actor who is reported to be working in the Cayman Islands as a timeshare salesman. While the well may have run dry for Armie following the “cannibal” scandal that landed him in rehab, the Hammer family continues to live high on the hog thanks to great-grandad Armand establishing himself as a billionaire oil tycoon in the 1950s with Occidental Petroleum, running the company from 1957 until his death in 1990. According to 1996’s “Dossier: The Secret History of Armand Hammer” by Jay Epstein, the mogul was involved in number of scandals himself, ranging from money laundering to Soviet espionage. Bypassing his own son Julian, the business was ultimately passed down to Armie’s father, Michael, who continues to run the Hammer International Foundation, the Armand Hammer Foundation and other organizations under the family name.

The Queen Wanted Meghan To Make Peace With Her Dad
The Queen and Prince Charles urged Meghan Markle to fly to the US to mend the dispute with her father, says a bombshell new book that also describes the build-up to Megxit. “Revenge: Meghan, Harry And The War Between The Windsors,” by British journalist Tom Bower, relates how Charles and the Queen held a conference call weeks after Harry and Meghan’s May 2018 nuptials, to try to mend the embarrassing dispute with Thomas Markle — although Meghan refused to comply. Thomas Markle, now 77, had said he did not attend the wedding because he was embarrassed about staging paparazzi photos, according to Bower. He had also criticized the royal family in several interviews, claiming he had no way of contacting his daughter and fearing he would die without speaking to her again. Her father’s claims contradicted Meghan’s explanation that he was too ill to fly to the wedding, Bower writes. By July 2018, Charles had grown increasingly irritated with Meghan. “He had never really understood her or what she wanted,” writes Bower. “‘Can’t she just go and see him and make this stop?’” Charles said to Harry, according to Bower. During the conference call with Meghan, Harry, Charles and the Queen, Meghan said It was “completely unrealistic” to think that she could fly to Mexico, where her father was living, “and somehow hope to speak privately to my father without causing a frenzy of media attention and intrusion that could bring more embarrassment to the royal family.” Within two weeks of the call, Meghan and Harry announced on Instagram they were stepping back from their duties as senior royals.

Ricky Martin Denies Domestic Violence Allegations
Ricky Martin is denying bombshell domestic violence allegations reportedly filed by his 21-year-old nephew. It was revealed two weeks ago that a judge in Puerto Rico has issued a “domestic violence-related” restraining order against him. The alleged victim’s name was not previously disclosed. However, according to Spanish publication Marca, Martin’s brother, Eric Martin, claimed that the victim is 21-year-old Dennis Yadiel Sanchez — the singer’s nephew. Under Puerto Rico’s laws for “incest charges,” the sentence Martin could face is five decades in prison if the shocking claims are true. The publication reported the complaint was made anonymously under Law 54, known as the Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act. El Vocero, a Puerto Rico newspaper, reported that the order states Martin and the person who filed the complaint dated for seven months. The alleged victim claimed that Martin didn’t take their break up well and has loitered near the petitioner’s home at least three times, according to the report. Martin’s attorney Marty Singer said, “Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep mental health challenges. Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew.” Singer also said, “The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting. We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.”

Nick Cannon Planning On More Kids!
Nick Cannon said it’s “safe to bet” he’ll father at least three more children this year as he anticipates the arrival of his eighth child. Speaking to “Entertainment Tonight” Thursday, Cannon didn’t shy away from speaking about potentially expanding his ever-growing brood. “That would take all the fun out of it if I just gave you a number right now,” he told host Nischelle Turner. Doing some quick math, Turner noted how model Bre Tiesi is pregnant with Cannon’s eighth child at the same time as Abby De La Rosa, who is the mother of Cannon’s twins. However, De La Rosa has not yet confirmed who the father of her unborn baby is. After probing Cannon, Turner suggested it might be his child. “You would be close,” he said in response. “You would be safe to bet on three [more children] in 2022.” Cannon previously teased his baby plans when he said “the stork is on the way” in last month’s interview on Angela Yee’s “Lip Service” podcast. He is already dad to 11-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan, whom he shares with ex-wife Mariah Carey, as well as 5-year-old son Golden “Sagon” and 1-year-old daughter Powerful Queen with Brittany Bell. He also shares 1-year-old twins, Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir, with De La Rosa. Bears Break In For Doughnuts
A California woman shared video of a mother bear and cub that broke into her house and feasted on doughnuts from a kitchen counter. Alice Taylor said she was at her Monrovia home when she heard a noise that turned out to be a mother bear and cub that had broken into her house by removing a window screen. Taylor said the bears ate a box of doughnuts that had been left on the kitchen counter. The homeowner said she made some loud noises and the bears left through the same now-screen-less window. Taylor said it was the second time that bears have come inside her home. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources shared photos last month when a bear broke into a vacation home near Crivitz while a family was inside. The family closed themselves into other rooms and a conservation officer was able to coax the bear out of the home. See the video HERE.

Weatherman Loses Power Due To Extreme Heat
In the middle of a segment on how the extreme, record-breaking heat across Texas could cause rolling blackouts in the Houston area, one TV meteorologist found himself in the middle of the story. KTRK’S Travis Herzog was explaining how heat over major population centers, like those in Houston and surrounding areas, could cause rolling blackouts. Moments later, the station lights turned off as the station itself lost power due to the heat. “One of our engineers informed me we went off the grid a little after 3 p.m.,” Herzog said in a post on Twitter. “The studio lights aren’t on a dedicated backup power source, so they went off as we switched generator power.” Despite the power being knocked out, Herzog kept reporting, informing local viewers about the intense heat. About two hours later, power was restored to the station during the middle of Herzog’s forecast, causing the lights to turn off again as the station switched from generator power to being back on the grid. Florida Man Escapes On Riding Lawn Mower
Florida deputies used a taser to stop a man who tried to avoid arrest by fleeing on a riding lawn mower on Saturday. The Okaloosa County sheriff’s office said it was trying to serve arrest warrants on the 40-year-old man and found him on the mower in a backyard. They shouted at him to stop and get on the ground when he tried to escape on the mower. Deputies chased him on foot before using the taser. When he was finally caught deputies found him with a revolver, a handcuff key and a pipe with methamphetamine residue.

Airport Cat Finally Captured
A cat who escaped from her kennel after arriving at a Boston airport on a flight from Germany has been safely captured three weeks later. The cat, named Rowdy, escaped from her kennel after her family’s Lufthansa flight arrived at Logan International Airport on June 24. It was spotted wandering around the airport but evaded capture for three weeks before finally being caught Wednesday. “Whether out of fatigue or hunger we’ll never know, but this morning she finally let herself be caught,” Jennifer Mehigan, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Port Authority, told WCVB-TV.

5 Signs You’re Being Undervalued At Work, And What To Do About It

- You feel invisible in meetings because no one takes your opinion seriously.
One early sign occurs when your perspective is dismissed or overshadowed by the opinions of others in team meetings, Cordero said.
If it becomes a pattern for colleagues to discount your thoughts or to pass off your idea as their own in meetings, the basic message being communicated to you is “You didn’t say anything valuable,” said Mary Abbajay, president of leadership development consultancy Careerstone Group and author of “Managing Up: How to Move Up, Win at Work, and Succeed with Any Type of Boss.”
Abbajay said if your ideas keep getting ignored in meetings, you should first consider if you are communicating the content of your messages clearly. But if you know you are stating your ideas effectively, ask your colleagues follow-up questions to suss out what exactly is the problem with your ideas being recognized, she recommended.
Questions like “Can you help me understand where my thinking went wrong?” can help you gather more information, because it won’t prompt people to view it as an attack and become defensive, Abbajay said.
- You’re totally checked out with your job.
Feeling disengaged is too often a symptom of being undervalued.
“It’s a neuropsychological need: People want to feel connected, they want to feel valued, they want to feel heard,” Abbajay said. “When we take those things away from people, they become disengaged employees.”
If you feel totally checked out at work, it’s a sign to reflect on whether that stems from feeling unappreciated, she said.
- You are the go-to person for office work, but not for assignments that will actually get you promoted.
If you keep getting saddled with thankless office tasks that aren’t your job, such as making coffee and taking notes, that’s a troubling sign you are being underutilized and undervalued.
“If you are getting the bad, the boring, the drudge work, the sort of projects or assignments that aren’t challenging, while you see other people get more exciting assignments, that’s a big sign that you may be undervalued,” Abbajay said.
Although all these non-promotable office tasks may be necessary to keep a team running, they should not be falling entirely on you. “Organizations need things done, but just because they need things done doesn’t mean it needs to be you specifically to do them,” Escalera said.
Before you agree to take notes for the 10th time, think strategically about where your main priorities lie. “Every ‘yes’ you have comes with an implicit ‘no’ to something else,” Lise Vesterlund, an economics professor at the University of Pittsburgh, previously told HuffPost. “At some point, if you are doing tasks at work that are sort of beneath the level that you are trained to do work at, then your job is not going to be very satisfying.”
Another way to counteract being stuck with thankless tasks is to figure out what matters to those who matter, so that you can align your job responsibilities with those that can help you get promoted, said Gorick Ng, a career adviser at Harvard University and the author of “The Unspoken Rules: Secrets to Starting Your Career Off Right.”
“Occupy an unoccupied ‘swim lane,’” he suggested. “What goals are the higher-ups trying to reach, and that you can help reach for them? What pains are the higher-ups trying to alleviate and that you can address for them? Then, approach them with a ‘I noticed X. You may have already thought about this, but two options are A and B. Is anyone already working on this? If not, could I help?’”
If you do speak up about wanting more stretch assignments and nothing changes, that could be a reason to look elsewhere, Abbajay said. “For whatever reason, they have potentially concocted this perception of you that you are not a strong player. Breaking those perceptions can be really hard. It might not even be worth your time,” she said.
- You’re being micromanaged.
“In some cases, if you don’t have any autonomy, if you’re constantly being micromanaged, I think that’s a big sign that you’re undervalued,” Abbajay said. “They don’t think enough of you to let you actually have any autonomy.”
If you have a boss who monitors you instead of managing you, try suggesting a new way of reporting to them as a short-term experiment. Framing your idea as an experiment makes it more likely that they will agree to it.
Try suggesting it like, “‘Hey, I know you really care about this deadline. Checking in this often is taking away my focus on the project, which is not going to help me hit this deadline. Maybe instead we can … ’” Lara Hogan, author of “Resilient Management,” previously told HuffPost.
- You are doing a great job, yet you’re underpaid.
How much you are paid is critical indicator of whether you are being valued for your contributions. If you’re given positive feedback and accolades, but your performance reviews and pay raises don’t match, that could be a sign that you’re undervalued, Cordero said.
“Essentially, we work for pay. That’s what a job is,” Escalera said. “I always think that money should be your top value when it comes to your career. Your career is the vehicle for your life. It is providing the monetary capabilities for you to live the way you want to live.”
Being undervalued may not feel like a big deal in the moment, but over time, it increases the likelihood that you are going to be underpaid in the future, Ng said. “Your salary today becomes your ‘floor’ for negotiating your salary tomorrow. It’s easier to negotiate a $65,000 salary in your next job if your current salary is $60,000 than if your current salary is $50,000,” he said.
If you strongly suspect you are in need of a raise or a promotion into a better salary, gather data on what the salary range for your role is with salary-sharing tools like Glassdoor and by asking trusted co-workers. Once you’re armed with data, go to your supervisor. Ng said you can say something such as “‘When I compare my scope of responsibilities to our company’s own job postings, it is really at the level of a chief of staff rather than as an administrative assistant. What would it take for us to rethink my title?’”
