More Books From Meghan And Harry
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will team up on a book about ‘leadership’ as part of their book deal. And Markle may be set to write her own memoir — following in Harry’s footsteps. In fact, royal observers ponder whether a Markle memoir will be the first chapter in a pivot to her long-rumored political aspirations. Markle has been relatively quiet since her appearance with Harry on her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey back in March. News was that Harry had signed an estimated $20 million book deal with Random House, it was then confirmed the deal with Penguin Random House is actually for four books. Aside from Harry’s memoir, there will be a rumored wellness book from Markle. And now we’re told Markle and Harry will team up for a book that is described as being focused on “leadership and philanthropy.” The Sussex camp was forced on Friday night to deny that Harry’s memoir will be split into two, with a second chapter to be published after the death of his grandmother, the Queen. A spokesperson for them say that contrary to reports, there is only one memoir planned by Harry and it’s scheduled to be released in late 2022, as originally announced.

James Brown Estate Finally Settled
James Brown’s family has reached a settlement ending a 15-year battle over the late singer’s estate, an attorney involved in the mediation said Friday. David Black, an attorney representing Brown estate, confirmed that the agreement was reached July 9. Details of the settlement were not disclosed. Legal wrangling over the assets of the “Godfather of Soul” has been ongoing since his death at the age of 73 on Christmas Day 2006. The performer’s death touched off years of bizarre headlines, beginning with Tomi Rae Hynie — a former partner who claimed to be Brown’s wife — being locked out of his 60-acre estate while photographers captured her sobbing and shaking its iron gates, begging to be let in. More than a dozen lawsuits were filed over the years by people trying to lay claim to the singer’s assets, which courts have estimated to be worth anything from $5 million to more than $100 million. The fight over Brown’s estate even spilled over into what to do with his body. Family members fought over the remains for more than two months, leaving Brown’s body, still inside a gold casket, sitting in cold storage in a funeral home. Brown was eventually buried in Beech Island, South Carolina, at the home of one of his daughters. The family wanted to turn the home into a shrine for Brown similar to Elvis Presley’s Graceland, but that idea never got off the ground.

Kanye West Party Has Some Expensive Food
Kanye West’ had a “Donda” listening party on Thursday night at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. A photo of the menu for the event went viral Friday for its eye-watering prices, like all-beef kosher hotdogs for $40 and $45 for cookies and brownies. Other fare offered: sweet and salty kettle corn for $35, chicken tenders for $50, and an assorted snack basket for $65. Naturally, Twitter had a field day. Some users defended the rapper, saying that the prices were for the suites at the stadium and therefore reflected multiple items; others just made fun of it. “Kanye sure know how to make you feel poor,” joked one, while another wrote that the hot dog “better be made with Waygu, Hand picked truffles and gold flakes.” It’s not the first time West has been in hot water over food prices at his events. In 2019 he was roundly criticized for the food offerings at a “Brunchella” reception before a service he gave in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The event was free, but the $55 charged for the paltry brunch drew howls from attendees and demands to have their money refunded.

Brad Pitt Vows To Appeal Custody Case
Brad Pitt has vowed to appeal the decision to disqualify the private judge being used in his fierce divorce battle with Angelina Jolie. He was given joint custody of their five minor children in a preliminary decision by Judge John W. Ouderkirk in May. But in a big win for Jolie, a California appeals court on Friday disqualified Judge Ouderkirk, ruling that he didn’t sufficiently disclose business relationships with Pitt’s attorneys. This renders Judge Ouderkirk’s custody decision effectively moot and means that Jolie, for the moment, retains full-time custody, with Pitt granted visitation rights. In a statement, a spokesperson for Pitt says: “The appeals court ruling was based on a technical procedural issue. “The facts haven’t changed. There is an extraordinary amount of factual evidence which led the judge — and the many experts who testified — to reach their clear conclusion about what is best in the children’s best interests. “We will continue to do what’s necessary legally based on the detailed findings of what’s best for the children.”

Jackie Mason Dies
Comedian Jackie Mason, known for his rapid-fire befuddled observations in a decades-long standup career, died at a New York hospital Saturday at the age of 93, long-time friend and collaborator Raoul Felder says. “He died peacefully with several close friends and family at his side,” Felder said. Mason had been hospitalized for two weeks with difficulty breathing, Felder said. Although he was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Mason came of age in New York, with brief career turns as an amateur boxer and ordained rabbi before getting into comedy. Mason was a master of the “Borscht Belt” style of standup, leaning heavily on Jewish culture and expressions. In his later years, Mason curated a vlog called “The Ultimate Jew” on his website.

Bear Tries To Catch A Movie
A Tennessee mall shared videos of a young black bear that paid a visit to the shopping center was filmed apparently trying to find a way into a movie theater. The College Square Mall in Morristown said two bears have been spotted in the area this week, and one of the animals was caught on camera hanging around the entrance to some stores. It was recorded at the mall’s main entrance, as well as at the entrance to an AMC movie theater. “Check out our visitor this morning looking for showtimes of Space Jam at AMC College Square 12,” the mall said in a Facebook post. “In all seriousness, please be cognizant of two bears in our area. Alligator Statue Causes Scare
Police in British Columbia responded Thursday to a report of an alligator loose inside a high-rise condo building, but arrived to find a realistic sculpture. Constable Jason Douchette, of the Vancouver Police Department, tweeted that officers were dispatched about 7 a.m. Thursday to a condominium building in which a woman reported she was hiding in a stairwell from a loose gator inside the building. Douchette said officers were relieved to discover the alligator was a “realistic fake” — a gold-colored sculpture. He said the sculpture, while the wrong color for an alligator, was sufficiently detailed to cause a person to panic. “Running up [a] secluded stairwell, rounding the corner and suddenly coming face to face with this … ‘clean up, aisle one’ for me,” he wrote. Girl Collides With Seagull
A video filmed aboard an amusement park ride on the Jersey Shore captured the moment a 13-year-old girl collided with a seagull. Kiley Holman was riding the SpringShot with friend Georgia Reed, 14, at Morey’s Piers in Wildwood, N.J., when a seagull hit her face. “When I got shot up, then I saw it. It was going the opposite way and then it came back and hit me right in the face,” Holman told WPVI-TV. “It felt really light and it only left like the tiniest scratch.” The video, posted to YouTube by Reed’s family, shows the seagull temporarily stuck in place, but Holman is able to toss it back into the air. Holman said she was relieved to see the bird appeared uninjured. The girl said she tried to tell Reed what happened, but the other girl was too distracted to hear about her avian encounter. “She told me to stop talking because she thought she was going to throw up,” Holman said. Tiny Dog Fights Off Coyote
A Toronto family’s tiny Yorkshire terrier is being hailed as a hero after rescuing her 10-year-old owner from an attacking coyote. Lily Kwan said she was walking Macy, her family’s 6-year-old Yorkie, in the Scarborough neighborhood when a coyote started to chase them. Lily said she started to run away and had to drop the 10-pound dog’s leash because Macy refused to follow. A neighbor’s home security camera recorded video as Macy turned to confront the coyote. “She’s a super brave dog, I love her so much and I just though this tiny dog could protect this huge human being, trying to fight off this huge coyote,” Lily told CTV News. Macy survived the confrontation and is being treated by a veterinarian for multiple puncture wounds from the coyote’s teeth. Lily’s family said Macy was transferred to intensive care when one of the wounds became infected and she developed a fever, but she is expected to make a full recovery. See the video HERE.

5 Strategies for Paying Off Your Car Loan Early
The Penny Hoarder
- Make One Large Extra Payment Every Year
If you can count on your grandma slipping a fat check into your Christmas card every year without fail, don’t use that money to splurge on alcoholic eggnog (OK, maybe one bottle). Instead, apply it directly to your car loan as a lump sum.
If you have autopay scheduled online, you can log into your account and simply arrange to make a one-time payment. If you’re old-fashioned and pay by phone or mail, simply call your lender and let them know you’d like to make an extra, one-time payment toward the principal.
Apply this logic to any unbudgeted (aka, not-planned-for) funds, like a bonus at work or a tax refund.
- Make a Half Payment Every Two Weeks
Talk with your lender to see if you can switch to biweekly payments, instead of monthly. If your lender allows you to pay half of your monthly loan amount every two weeks, you will wind up making 26 half payments. Divide 26 by 2, and you get 13 full months of payments, paid over 12 months. That means, by the end of the year, you will have essentially made an extra car payment.
Just check your budget first to ensure that kind of payment plan is feasible.
- Round Up
Rounding up to the nearest $50 or even $100, if you can swing it, is a great way to add extra money every month to the principal. For example, if your monthly payment is $337, you could round up to $350 or even $400 to essentially pay an extra $13 or $63 a month. This will wind up knocking a few months off the life of your loan.
If you have autopay scheduled, log onto your loan platform and see if you can add the additional funds toward the principal each month so you don’t even have to think about it.
- Resist the Urge to Skip a Payment
Some lenders may let you skip one or two payments a year. So kind of them, right? Wrong. They do this knowing it will extend the life of your loan, meaning they will rake in even more of your hard-earned cash in interest fees.
Unless you fall on very hard times, fight the urge to skip a payment. You will wind up paying more in the end if you do.
- Refinance, but Exercise Caution
If you had a poor credit score when you bought your car and opted for a seven-year loan to keep payments low, it might make sense to refinance. Perhaps you’re two years into the loan, you’ve got a higher-paying job, and your credit score is in great shape. You could potentially refinance at a lower APR and build the loan out over 36 months, saving you two years and lots of money in interest.
But borrower beware: Don’t refinance to get a lower monthly payment by extending a loan, as you will end up just paying more in interest.
