Elon Musk’s Baby Has Short Nickname

Grimes and Elon Musk left fans perplexed earlier this month when they revealed they named their newborn son X Æ A-12.  The pair was inundated with questions regarding the pronunciation and meaning behind the unconventional moniker, which ended up being slightly changed after his birth.  In an interview with Bloomberg about her upcoming online art exhibition, the singer revealed she calls her newborn “Little X.”  Last Sunday, Grimes opened up on Instagram about the change the couple made to their child’s name, given that it reportedly wouldn’t be accepted legally in the state of California.  She told a fan the couple replaced the number 12 from his name with roman numerals instead.  “X Æ A-Xii,” she responded, without providing further insight concerning the reason behind the switch.  One of her followers responded, “Nice! Just removed the numbers to conform to California law.” Grimes wrote, “Roman numerals. Looks better tbh.”

Loughlin’s Daughter Trying To Move On

Olivia Jade Giannulli is looking to the future.  Before the scandal, Giannulli, now 20, was known as a YouTube beauty guru. She has more than 1.9 million followers on the platform.  After news of the scandal and the involvement of her family broke, the YouTuber temporarily ceased sharing videos online, her last post being on March 10, 2019.  Months later, Giannulli made a return to YouTube in December that year, sharing a video explaining that her absence was due to her legal obligations not to speak about the lawsuit her parents were embroiled in.  Reactions to Giannulli’s online return was mixed, and save for one more video in December, the influencer hasn’t shared any new content online.  Now, it seems she’s looking to return to the platform and put the past behind her.  “As far as her career, getting back on YouTube is still the end goal,” a source told Us Weekly. “But she knows that for a while she might face some struggle.”  When the scandal surfaced, Giannulli’s sponsors began dropping like flies, but now, she reportedly feels that she may find new opportunities.  “She also knows that certain brands might want to capitalize on this whole situation and will be interested in working with her,” the source told the outlet. “It might not be her ideal picks, but she knows there is still a platform there for her and she will regroup and rebuild her brand in one way or another.”  Giannulli feels “confident,” the source said, and her ambitions stem from her belief that “nothing lasts forever” as she prepares for a “slow rebuild.”

The Beckham’s Want To Build Escape Tunnel

Victoria and David Beckham have always been security conscious, but after Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli was robbed at knifepoint at his North London mansion recently, they’re taking it to the next level with their home.  According to planning documents obtained by the Express newspaper, the couple want to install “an underground passage linking the family’s nine-bed Cotswold pad to their luxury car garage” — creating an escape tunnel should the family need it. The couple has also asked the local council for a security hut.  The Beckhams have been quarantining at the nine-bedroom, $8 million home, which comes with a tennis court, tree house, plunge pool, fire pit and floor-to-ceiling windows.  “The proposed development includes a new basement cellar constructed beneath the extension to the existing garage outbuilding with a linked walkway,” according to the plans.  “The basement cellar beneath is for storage of wine and the proposed use of the outbuilding is solely in association with the main dwelling house. … It will improve security for the occupants of the property.”

ABC Insiders Worried About Ryan Seacrest

Ryan Seacrest rarely takes a day off. So when he took an unscheduled one from co-hosting “Live” with Kelly Ripa on May 18, there was cause for alarm at the network.  An ABC source says that some members of the show’s production team were made aware of Seacrest’s absence less than 30 minutes before they were to go live on air.  “It was a last-minute thing and there was a sense of panic at ABC when we were told that Ryan couldn’t make it that morning,” the ABC source revealed.  Just hours earlier, he had prompted serious fears for his health during the “American Idol” finale — when, while broadcasting from his Los Angeles home, he struggled with words, seemed confused and had a visibly droopy right eye.  “There are people at the network who are extremely worried that he is overdoing it,” said the ABC source.  But other sources say Seacrest’s schedule is actually easier during the pandemic than it has been in the past, and wonder if there’s more to the story. Previously, Seacrest had to travel a couple days a week between Los Angeles and New York City, where he lives most of the time. He would record “Idol” in LA, then catch a red-eye to NYC to record “Live” and his radio shows.  But since March, Seacrest has been in lockdown at the Southern California estate he bought from Ellen DeGeneres for $37 million and recording everything from his home studio.

Harry and Meghan Hire Tyler Perry’s Security

After living in Tyler Perry’s Los Angeles home for over a month, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have hired the director’s private security team to look after them and the property following an upswing in drone activity around the mansion.  StyleCaster reports the Sussexes began expressing concern for the well-being of son Archie — as well as their general safety — after several surveillance drones and members of the paparazzi began becoming more present and aggressive around the property, leading the pair to hire Perry’s Los Angeles security detail. He also owns a home in Atlanta.  Contrary to previous reports, Harry’s father, Prince Charles, will not be footing the bill.

Millionaire YouTuber Riots At Arizona Mall

Fans are calling to “cancel” Jake Paul after videos of the YouTuber show him caught in the middle of looting on Saturday. The videos, which were posted to Instagram by Andrew Blue, Paul’s videographer and photographer, show the YouTuber and others at Fashion Square in Scottsdale, Arizona. Though the Ohio native is not seen destroying the shopping center, others around him are kicking in glass windows, breaking kiosks and more.  On his own Instagram Stories, Paul filmed outside Fashion Square. “Bunch of f—king idiots, bro. Literally I walked right here, right up to there,” he says motioning toward where police officers are stationed, “these f—cking idiots teargassed me. I ain’t doing s—t, bro. Look at them pointing guns at me.”  After Blue’s videos were posted on Twitter, many called out Paul’s millionaire status and accused him for allegedly looting for vlog views.  “Jake Paul, a millionaire, is looting a mall so that he could post a YouTube video about it and add more to his wealth. You can’t make this s—t up,” wrote one Twitter user.  “This is absolutely disgusting,” added another.

Man Breaks Lemon Juice Record

An Idaho man turned a sour taste into a sweet achievement when he drank a liter of lemon juice through a straw in under 17 seconds for a Guinness World Record.  David Rush, who has broken more than 100 Guinness records to promote STEM education, emptied the glass containing a whole liter of 100 percent lemon juice in 16.53 seconds.  Rush’s time bested the previous record of 17.12 seconds, set by Andre Ortolf.  Rush said he kept from throwing up after finishing the juice, but his stomach discomfort lasted until the next day.  See the video HERE.

Monkeys Still COVID Blood Samples

A group of monkeys attacked a laboratory assistant in India and ran off with three coronavirus blood test samples taken from patients, authorities said.  Local authorities said the lab technician was carrying three blood test samples for COVID-19 testing at Meerut Medical College, in Uttar Pradesh, when he was attacked by a troop of monkeys that quickly fled with the samples.  One of the monkeys later was caught on video chewing on one of the stolen samples while sitting in a tree.  Officials at the medical college said new blood samples were taken from the patients so testing could be completed.  Medical experts have raised fears that the monkeys could cause the virus to spread more quickly if it is determined that the patients who were being tested were infected with COVID-19.  See the video HERE.

Large Alligator Sets Off Doorbell Cam

A Florida man who received an alert from his doorbell camera checked the footage and was surprised to see a large alligator climbing on the bench on his front door.  Crawford Lewis of Venice said he awoke to find an alert on the app connected to his Ring doorbell camera informing him of movement outside of his front door in the early morning hours of May 21.  Lewis reviewed the footage and watched as a large alligator wandered onto his front porch and climbed atop a bench in an effort to reach a metal plaque bearing the image of sea turtles.  “I’m glad I did not get up at 5:30 a.m. and open my front door,” Lewis told WOFL-TV.  The gator was unsuccessful in pulling the plaque off the wall, but it did break a potted plant while climbing down from the bench to leave the area.

Mannequin Causes Police Scare

Police in New Zealand responded to a city street on a report of a body in the road, but arrived to find the supposed corpse was actually a mannequin.  A witness reported seeing police, firefighters and ambulances responding Wednesday to South Road in Dunedin.  Police said there was a report of a body spotted in the road, but the situation was not as it initially seemed.  “This was a report of a body on the road, however it appears it was a mannequin,” a Dunedin police spokeswoman told the Otago Daily Times.  Police in London responded to a similar situation last year, when they responded to a report of a person in distress at an art gallery.

The Safest Way To Take A Road Trip While Social Distancing

Huffington Post

Consider taking a shorter trip. If it’s longer, plan the trip to a T.

Gauge the risk factors involved in traveling away from home for however long you’re out: Do you have a weak bladder that’s going to require lots of bathroom breaks? Are you in a high-risk group for the coronavirus? How many people are in the car? What is their health status? (The bottom line remains that the more people who go, the more opportunities for others to contract the virus.) How long will you be out there?

“Longer distances may mean more stops and more exposures, but if you take precautions you can minimize your risk of exposure,” said Rachel Patzer, an associate professor at Emory University School of Medicine.

Prepare for those dreaded bathroom breaks.

Let’s address the elephant in the room: If you can’t hold it, what are some best practices for using a public toilet? Gas stations, which are essential businesses, may be your only option for restroom facilities. While hopefully they’re cleaned often and well stocked with toilet paper, prepare for the worst by bringing your own TP and soap.

In fact, it’s not a bad idea to bring a whole emergency kit that includes hand sanitizer, toilet paper, soap and travel-size packs of toilet seat covers, said Krutika Kuppalli, an infectious diseases physician and biosecurity fellow at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.

No judgment if you want to hover over the toilet in a squat. After using the bathroom, wash your hands like you’ve been chopping jalapeños all day and really need to get it all off you.

“Use extremely good hand hygiene if you go to the restroom,” Kuppalli said. “Remember, we know that you get infected with the virus via infection of the mucous membranes ― eyes, nose, mouth.”

Per the CDC guidelines, wash for 20 seconds, use a clean disposable paper towel to turn off the faucet, and then wipe your hands dry.

If you have kids who have trouble not touching everything in sight, Patzer recommends bringing a potty training chair in the trunk of your car.

“We used to do this for long trips when our kids were younger anyway because they never liked to use the public toilets!” she said.

Do more research about your route than you normally would.

The CDC recommends checking with the state or local authorities where you are, along your route and at your planned destination to learn about any local issues or travel restrictions. Federal law cannot bar you from traveling to another state, but local authorities can require self-quarantine for as long as 14 days once you arrive. (To check whether the state you’re planning to visit has such a policy, call the state health authority on this handy list provided by the CDC.)

Identify whether rest stops are open along your route, said Jim Stratton, the public relations manager at AAA National. The closures vary from state to state.

It’s also a good idea to check the COVID-19 infection rates for the counties you’re considering driving through and to, said travel writer Wendy Perrin.

“Basically, you want to know where the hot spots are so you can avoid them,” she told HuffPost.

Pick a destination that shouldn’t be too crowded ― and have a Plan B if there are too many people there.

When determining where you’ll go, outdoor places with wide-open spaces and a lot of fresh air are obviously ideal. In many states, hiking trails and other outdoor recreational areas are now open. Just consider whether your destination might be swarmed with people.

“If you know a park or beach is popular, stay away from them right from the get-go,” Perrin advised. “Instead, choose lesser-known nature destinations so that social distancing is easier.”

But you might still arrive at your go-to spot and find it full or closed. It pays to have some backup plans in mind, especially if you have a car full of antsy kiddos.

“Have a Plan B that will make everyone happy,” Perrin said. “You don’t want to end up like the Griswold family arriving at Walley World.”

When you get gas, be aware of high-touch areas.

If you’re pumping gas, gloves are a smart idea ― the gas pumps could be contaminated from frequent use. Dispose of those gloves in a nearby trash container, not on the ground. (We never thought we’d have to say that, but people are throwing them everywhere.)

Kuppalli said she’d also be concerned about high-touch areas where the virus could live in your own car: the steering wheel, the cup holders, the buttons you press to change the radio station or control the air conditioning, the dashboard and the seats. They’re all worth cleaning with sanitizing wipes or a soapy paper towel.

Make sure your car is up to the stress of a long drive.

Before any lengthy road trip, AAA advises drivers to have a full vehicle inspection, making sure fluids are topped off and there isn’t any underlying issue that could cause a breakdown. Stratton has a simple acronym to remind drivers off what needs to be checked before heading out.

“All drivers should make a good B-E-T to keep their road trips on track by having a car’s battery, engine and tires checked before embarking on a long trip,” he said.

A battery on the brink of dying rarely warns a driver before it fails, but a simple battery test can uncover potential problems, Stratton said. (AAA offers its members free testing of a vehicle’s battery.)

Additionally, have a well-stocked emergency kit on hand. Stratton recommends including a cellphone car charger, a flashlight with extra batteries, a first-aid kit, a jug of drinking water, extra food for people (and pets, if you’re bringing them), jumper cables, and emergency flares or reflectors.

If it’s a long trip, prepare to use rest stops or possibly stay at a hotel.

If your trip is more than just a quick jaunt to the beach or the mountains for a hike, you’ll want to take the occasional break. If it’s especially long, you may need to stop somewhere for sleep, so you’re not driving drowsy. (According to the National Safety Council, more than 100,000 accidents in 2019 were the result of drowsy driving.)

To that end, call ahead to make sure that rest stops you’re familiar with are open.

If you plan to stay at a hotel or motel (also call ahead), be extra cautious. Clean high-touch areas in the room, like doors, tables, faucets, toilets, sinks, light switches, phones, remotes and curtain handles, Kuppalli said.

“Just like with public bathrooms, I recommend bringing sanitizer wipes to wipe down all of these high-touch areas in case the hotel hasn’t done that,” she said.

If you don’t have a car but really need to get away, some options are better than others.

Your safest bet if you don’t own a car is to rent a vehicle.

Perrin recommends turning on the air conditioning and rolling down the windows so you’re not breathing in the last driver’s air. And of course, wipe down all those high-touch areas mentioned above.

If you’re not renting a car, consider Uber or Lyft, Kuppalli suggested.

“Just make sure you’re wearing a mask,” she said. “You could also consider a train depending on what type of options are available. For instance, sleeper cars may have better options for physical distancing.”

However you travel, plan on being as self-sufficient as possible on the road.

“Bring everything you might need with you to minimize stops and reduce services en route,” Perrin said. “Water, snacks, lunch, disinfectant wipes, mask, extra mask, gloves, extra gloves, phone charger, Ziploc bags, a towel or even a change of clothing.”

“Take whatever you might need,” she said. “You really want to factor in a range of ‘what if’ scenarios.”
