Hailey Bieber Suffers Stroke Scare
Hailey Bieber, the wife of pop music star Justin Bieber, has disclosed she was hospitalized this week for a small blood clot in her brain. “On Thursday morning, I was sitting at breakfast with my husband when I started having stroke-like symptoms and was taken to the hospital,” she posted on Instagram Story Saturday. “They found I had suffered a very small blood clot to my brain, which caused a small lack of oxygen, but my body had passed it on its own and I recovered completely within a few hours. Although this was definitely one of the scariest moments I’ve ever been through, I’m home now and doing well, and I’m so grateful and thankful to all the doctors and nurses who take care of me!” Justin Bieber recently had to rearrange his concert tour dates after he tested positive for COVID-19.

Prince Harry gave Queen Elizabeth just 15 minutes notice before he publicly declared he’d be skipping his grandfather’s upcoming memorial service, senior royal aides told The Sun. Harry confirmed Friday that he would miss the March 29 memorial services for his grandfather, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died on April 9, 2021 at age 99. “The Duke [of Sussex] will not be returning to the UK in late March, but hopes to visit his grandmother as soon as possible,” the Prince said in the statement. Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their two children live in California. Meghan and Harry’s second child, Lilibet, was born June 4, 2021. Alec Baldwin Blames Victim In Rust Shooting
Alec Baldwin filed legal papers Friday denying any responsibility for shooting dead Halyna Hutchins — even blaming her for giving him the directions that led to the deadly accident. He insisted that every single mistake leading to the Oct. 21 shooting on the New Mexico set of “Rust” was “performed by someone else.” His filing Friday also revealed that Baldwin made an “exhaustive effort” to get the crew back together to finish the doomed movie even after a flurry of lawsuits blamed him for Hutchins’ death. “This is a rare instance when the system broke down, and someone should be held legally culpable for the tragic consequences,” the star’s lawyer, Luke Nikas, wrote in an arbitration filing Friday shared by Deadline. “That person is not Alec Baldwin,” said the filing, adding that he is just “an actor.” The arbitration demand against Baldwin’s fellow producers claims the star’s contract protects him from any financial responsibility in a slew of lawsuits filed against him, including the wrongful death complaint filed by Hutchins’ widower. Even without that clause, Baldwin was completely innocent in the “unthinkable tragedy,” according to the filing, which revealed he was paid $250,000 to star in and produce the low-budget western.

They U-Hauled it,” a source say of the fast-paced nature of their relationship. “They’ve been living together in Austin.” Manning still has her apartment in Brooklyn. The pair have been interacting on Twitter in recent months, with certain messages hinting at their relationship. In one exchange, Grimes explained why she had not yet appeared on a user’s Twitch stream, tweeting that she had not been “in LA” but felt “bad for postponing like 10 times.” In response, Manning tweeted, “vouch.” And in December, Grimes tweeted, “Celebrity culture is suffocating a f. Jussie Smollett In Protective Custody
Jussie Smollett, the actor sentenced to five months in prison for faking a hate crime in Chicago, will serve his time in protective custody. Smollett, who ranted that he was not “suicidal” as he was hauled away after sentencing, will be housed in his own cell, and will be under video monitoring at all times, the Cooks County Sheriff’s Office says. Smollett also shouted his innocence on Thursday during his sentencing. “I did not do this and I am not suicidal and if anything happens to me when I go there, I did not do it to myself and you must all know that,” he yelled. The protective custody arrangement was requested by Smollett and his legal team. After the sentencing, his attorney later talked of the “Epstein situation” and said the actor feared the possibility that “he turns up dead in protective custody.” “Mr. Smollett is being housed in his own cell, which is monitored by security cameras in the cell and by an officer wearing a body-worn camera who is stationed at the entrance of the cell to ensure that Mr. Smollett is under direct observation at all times,” the Cooks County Sheriff said in a statement.

A 7-year-old comic book fan from India broke a Guinness World Record by identifying 60 DC Comics characters from photos in one minute. Nidhish VB took on the record at an event in Chennai and was able to name 60 DC Comics characters, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash, from photos that scrolled by on a screen in one minute. “I actually wanted to try on Marvel because I like Spider-Man, but everyone preferred DC, so, I, too, agreed. It took around a month for me to prepare. Initially it was all confusing, but as I started to learn, I began remembering the names. When I managed to set the record, I was elated. It was a great experience. I hope to break this record, too, sometime, soon,” Nidhish told The Times of India.

Deer Stuck In Fence
A Texas man rescued a deer that became stuck while trying to jump over a fence from one yard to another in his neighborhood. Marco Rangel said in a Facebook post that a neighbor in Sienna alerted him to the deer stuck at the top of a wooden fence with its head in one yard and its backside in another. Rangel was able to use a folding chair to help the deer get the rest of the way over the fence. Ruthie Linsenbardt shared video showing the deer running off into the neighborhood after a less-than-graceful landing. See the video HERE.

Fishermen Catch Mammoth Tooth
The crew of a New Hampshire fishing boat was dredging for scallops when they pulled up something unexpected: a 12,000-year-old woolly mammoth tooth. The Portsmouth-based crew, known as the New England Fishmongers, said the 11-inch-long tooth was found off the coast of Newburyport, Mass. Tim Rider, captain and co-owner of the New England Fishmongers, took the 7-pound item to the University of New Hampshire, where experts identified it. “I always love thinking about the landscape in New England,” UNH Geology Professor Will Clyde told NBC Boston. “With mammoths and mastodons walking around, and in terms of geological times, that wasn’t that long ago.” Rider said he has decided to auction the tooth on eBay and donate the proceeds to World Central Kitchen, a charity working to provide hot meals to refugees from the violence in Ukraine. Florida Man Calls 911 To Test Meth
A Florida man is accused of calling 911 to have the methamphetamine he recently purchased from a man he met at an area bar tested because he believed it was really bath salts. Thomas Eugene Colucci made the emergency call around 7 p.m. on Thursday. Deputies say Colucci told them that he is an experienced drug user who’s used methamphetamine in the past and knew what it should feel like. When it didn’t produce the expected sensation, he decided to call authorities. Colucci then produced two small baggies, each containing a white crystal-like substance, and handed them over to the deputy. Colucci told deputies he wanted his methamphetamine tested because he did not want other people to purchase “fake” methamphetamine from the person who sold it to him. He wanted deputies to “put the person in trouble” for selling dangerous drugs. However, he was unable to provide a name or any contact info for this individual. As requested, a deputy performed a field test on a sample of the white crystal-like substance from each of the baggies and both baggies tested positive for methamphetamine, according to HCSO. Deputies arrested Colucci, who said he was having chest pains after being placed in the back of a patrol vehicle.

5 Signs You’re Dealing With A Toxic Parent As An Adult (And How To Cope)

- They manipulate you to get their way.
Even as adults, we crave our parents’ love and approval. A toxic parent will take advantage of this in order to get what they want.
“Even though you may be making the right decisions for yourself, your parents make you feel like your decisions are harmful to them in some way and threaten to withdraw love or connection if you go against what they wish,” said licensed mental health counselor Justine Carino, who specializes in dysfunctional family patterns.
If you refuse to appease them, the threats will only continue.
“Since grounding you is no longer an option, parents may use possible estrangement or cutting the adult child out of his or her inheritance if he or she doesn’t toe the line,” Streep said.
- They belittle your feelings, often accusing you of being “too sensitive.”
When you try to express your hurt or disappointment about a situation to your toxic parent, they’re quick to dismiss or minimize your feelings, which leaves you constantly questioning your own perceptions. In other words, they gaslight you. “You often feel emotionally invalidated by them and have a lot of feelings of self-doubt after having conversations with them,” Carino said.
One of clinical psychologist Craig Malkin’s clients grew up with a father who responded to any display of emotion with some variation of “you need to grow a thicker skin” or “you need to learn to let things go.” This led to a lot of shame and confusion around his own emotions, a struggle that followed him into adulthood. The client “limited contact with his father as an adult, but any conversation they had reawakened suspicions … that he was too sensitive, or demanding, or wishy-washy,” said Malkin, author of “Rethinking Narcissism: The Secret to Recognizing and Coping with Narcissists.” “He doubted himself at an even deeper level than the constantly criticized child.”
- If you disagree with them, they say you’re being disrespectful.
With toxic parents, it’s their way or the highway. There’s no room for healthy discussion or compromise. Even as an adult, your opinion seems to hold no weight. “The parent who embraces a black-and-white authoritarian style of parenting believes there’s only one answer, and that it’s his or hers,” Streep said. “The lack of discussion gives you only one option — capitulation — and, yes, that’s abusive.”
- They constantly criticize not just your actions and decisions, but your character.
Many parents have a habit of butting in and sharing unsolicited — but often well-intentioned — comments about everything from your clothes to your job to your house to your romantic partner. Those remarks can be frustrating, to say the least, but that doesn’t mean they’re toxic, necessarily.
Toxic parents criticize not only what you do, but who you are.
“Rather than highlight the action or decision the parent disapproves of, the mother or father focuses on what’s wrong with you — how you are too sensitive or too dumb or whatever else may come to his or her mind,” Streep said. “This is meant to undercut you, have you doubt yourself or blame yourself.”
One of Malkin’s clients was a woman in her 30s whose mother never shied away from rattling off a list of all the mistakes she felt her daughter was making. “She was too picky with men, too careless with spending, too concerned with her looks — or sometimes not concerned enough,” Malkin said. “The theme was always the same: her mother’s wisdom was unquestioned and [the client] was clueless.” The client “often left these calls convinced she’d never stop second guessing herself,” Malkin said.
Toxic parents make you feel that no matter what you do, you’re not good enough or you haven’t “lived up to their standards or expectations for what they hoped you would become,” Carino said.
- They blame you for their problems and emotions.
Rather than take responsibility for their wrongdoings and apologize for them, toxic parents will shift the blame onto you. They’ll tell you that their own relationship issues or financial troubles are somehow your fault.
Even their negative emotions become your responsibility. They’ll say that if you hadn’t done X, they wouldn’t have gotten so angry. “Your parent says something hurtful and you well up and he or she says, ‘If you weren’t so sensitive, we wouldn’t have all this drama,’” Streep said. “Or the parent is screaming and says, ‘If you listened to me in the first place, I wouldn’t have to resort to yelling.’”
How To Cope With A Toxic Parent
One key point to keep in mind when dealing with an emotionally unhealthy parent: “Recognize that the only person you can change is you,” Streep said. On that note, our experts offer some advice on how you can deal with a toxic parent.
Set boundaries.
Reflect on what you want these boundaries to be and then communicate them clearly to your parent. It’s not easy to do, but it will become more comfortable over time, Carino said. “It can be helpful to discuss [boundaries] during a time when you both are calm and removed from the situation being addressed,” she added. “Being firm and consistent is an essential part of maintaining boundaries.”
Limit contact with your parent, if necessary.
If your boundaries aren’t respected, consider lessening contact with your parent. That might mean communicating only via email or short phone calls for the time being.
“Parents don’t suddenly change and become nontoxic,” psychologist Chivonna Childs told the Cleveland Clinic. “You may have to distance yourself from them to heal, and that can be a hard pill to swallow.”
Know that your parent’s negative reactions aren’t a sign you did something wrong.
“People sometimes attack, criticize, and ignore not because we’re doing something wrong, but because they’re upset that we’re doing something right,” Malkin said. A lot of parental toxicity stems from narcissistic traits, he noted. Narcissists are so driven to feel special that they envy other people’s talents and insights. “[This] means they’ll attack ignore or dismiss no matter how great a job you do,” Malkin said. “In fact, they’re more likely to undermine your successes.”
Talk to a therapist.
The best strategy to navigate this tricky terrain, Streep said, is to work with a gifted therapist.
Carino underscored the importance of getting counseling to find healthy ways to deal with a toxic parent.
“Family of origin work as an adult can not only help you with your relationship with your parents, but help you understand certain patterns that you play out in your romantic relationships and friendships because of dynamics from your childhood,” she said.
