Liam Neeson Welcomes Back Movie Watchers

Actor Liam Neeson celebrated the reopening of New York City movie theaters with a personal appearance at a screening of his latest action film, The Marksman.  The pandemic kept city theaters closed for almost a year.  To mark the occasion, Neeson attended Friday’s 7 p.m. screening of his film at the AMC Lincoln Square theater in Manhattan, Deadline reported.  “Coming to a movie theater for me is like coming home,” Neeson told the audience. “I find it sacred. That feeling has never changed.”  In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter before the event, he said he has gotten the first shot of the two-injection coronoavirus vaccination and was eager to greet moviegoers venturing back into cinemas.  “This is one for the diary,” Neeson said. “It will be nice to welcome people.”  As of now, capacity is limited to 25 percent or no more than 50 people per auditorium in New York City movie theaters.  Los Angeles theaters remain closed.

Prince Harry’s Palace Nickname Revealed

As close friends of Meghan Markle’s continue to rally behind the duchess amid accusations she previously bullied royal staffers, more details are coming to light about how aides viewed Prince Harry during their engagement.  According to a new report, palace staffers who spent time around the Duke and Duchess of Sussex prior to their 2018 royal wedding nicknamed Harry “the hostage.”  The nickname was allegedly the result of a tense moment that took place between the couple and staffers, who refused to allow Markle to take the tiara she planned to wear during the wedding with her to a hair appointment, The Telegraph reports, citing sources.  An insider claimed to the outlet that one of Queen Elizabeth II’s aides received a rebuke from Harry once he learned Markle’s request was denied. The source said the aide “told Harry it was priceless and couldn’t suddenly be handed over at short notice,” the outlet reports, via The Sun.  Prince Harry allegedly responded: “What Meghan wants, Meghan gets.”  These new claims come just days after Buckingham Palace confirmed it will launch a probe into accusations that Markle bullied staffers during her time as a working royal. Markle’s team has refuted the claims.

Big Money Paid For Oprah Royal Interview

CBS reportedly paid more than $7 million for the rights to air Oprah Winfrey’s highly anticipated tell-all interview with Prince Harry and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle.  The two-hour interview cost the network a pretty penny — likely somewhere between $7 million and $9 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.  CBS bought the lucrative rights — the network charged $325,000 for every 30 seconds of commercial time — from Winfrey’s Harpo Productions, and licensed the interview in international markets.   A spokesman for the Sussexes’ told the Journal they were not paid for the interview.

Tiger Woods Was Found Unconscious After Crash

Tiger Woods was found unconscious inside of his SUV after his single-car crash on Feb. 23th.  In an affidavit from Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy Johann Schloegl that was obtained by Stefani Dazio of the Associated Press, a man who lives nearby heard the crash and walked over to Woods’ car where he found Tiger unconscious and not responding to questions.  The crash left Woods with serious, but not life-threatening injuries that required surgery.  Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva told reporters on Feb. 24 that Woods was “not drunk” and the crash was “purely an accident.”  The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant on March 3 in order to retrieve data from the black box in Woods’ car that could provide additional information about the crash.

Wild Turkey Crashes Dentist Office

An employee at a dentist’s office in California received a scare when a large turkey came crashing through a window and into the patient consultant area.  Donna McDonald, office manager at Gregory Hailey DDS in Fair Oaks, said she was the only person in the building when she heard the crashing sound that she initially thought might be an earthquake.  McDonald said she was shocked to see the cause of the ruckus was actually a turkey that crashed through a window into the empty patient consultant area and was clawing at the walls.  “It clawed up multiple walls to where we’re gonna have to repaint in there. Some of the glass that came in cut the dental chairs … and we’ll need some deep cleaning,” McDonald told the Sacramento Bee.  Animal control referred McDonald to Gold Country Wildlife Rescue, which sent someone to the scene to evict the turkey.

Woman Finds Hidden Apartment Behind Mirror

A New York woman investigating a hole behind her bathroom mirror went through the proverbial looking glass and made a startling discovery — an entire empty apartment.  Samantha Hartsoe, who chronicled her discovery in a series of TikTok videos, said she was investigating the source of a cold draft in her Roosevelt Island apartment, and she tracked the blowing air to her bathroom mirror.  Hartsoe removed the mirror and discovered it was hiding a large, square hole into a dark room.  “Curiosity killed the cat, curiosity is going to kill me,” Hartsoe recalled thinking in an interview with NBC New York. “I can’t not know what’s on the other side of my bathroom.”  Hartsoe climbed through the opening and discovered the room was part of a two-story vacant apartment. She said she explored the whole residence, finding only trash bags, an uninstalled toilet and an empty water bottle.  “I was kind of expecting there to be somebody, especially with the water bottle being there,” Hartsoe told Curbed.  See the video HERE.

Live Turtle Found In Large Bass

Biologists with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said they were catching largemouth bass for research when they made a surprising discovery — a live turtle in a fish’s stomach.  The commission and Wildlife Research Institute said biologists were collecting tissue samples from fish that were caught earlier in the day by an airboat in the Everglades when a member of the team spotted something highly unusual: “movement coming from the stomach of a bass.”  “The biologist carefully opens the stomach and something unexpected is inside … a live turtle!” the institute said in a Facebook post. “Live turtles are not something biologists normally find amongst the stomach contents of largemouth bass.”  The institute said the biologist carefully extracted the turtle from the stomach of the fish and, after determining that it was healthy, released it back into the water.

Man Runs Marathon While Pulling Truck

An Australian athlete broke a world record when he ran a marathon in 16 hours and 12 minutes — while pulling a 1.6-ton truck.  Corey Phillpott, 23, of Glenbrook, pulled the 3,300-pound Ford Ranger truck for a distance of 26.2 miles through Jamison Park in Penrith, New South Wales, to take the new world record title for the World’s Strongest Marathon.  Phillpott’s time of 16 hours and 12 minutes was enough to beat the previous record of 17 hours, which was held by U.S. athlete Justin True.  “I’ve got no injuries, I feel great, I’ll go for a run tomorrow,” Phillpott told the Blue Mountains Gazette after the attempt.  Phillpott said the feat isn’t eligible for a Guinness World Record.  “It won’t get ratified by Guinness because they wanted us to pull a city car, half the size,” he said.

7 Mistakes You’re Making In The Morning That Ruin Your Productivity

Huffington Post

Mistake #1: Forcing yourself to wake up early.

So many articles about highly productive people marvel breathlessly at how early those high achievers wake up. But the notion that you have to be an early bird in order to get a lot done simply isn’t true, said Chris Bailey, author of “The Productivity Project.”

“We tend to beat ourselves up about the time we wake up,” he said — but we’re “all wired differently.”

A person who wakes up at 10 a.m. can absolutely be as productive as a person who wakes up at 5 a.m.; what matters is how “deliberately” they act once they’re awake.

So if your schedule allows, play around with your wake time a bit and see what feels best, Bailey said. You might find you’re able to get more done throughout the day if you sneak a few more ZZZs.

Mistake #2: Starting your day in ‘reactive mode.’

Graham Allcott, founder of Think Productive and author of “How to be a Productivity Ninja,” said the biggest productivity buster is starting the day in “reactive mode” rather than “proactive mode.”

Many of us wake up and immediately check our phones, but that puts us in “reactive mode,” he explained. By contrast, a more proactive start to the morning would involve spending some time thinking about your priorities for the day, running through your calendar and to-do list, and making a plan.

Note: This doesn’t mean going through your messages. “An email inbox is not a to-do list,” Allcott said. “In fact, it’s a list of everybody else’s priorities, not yours.”

And he’s not the only productivity expert whose top tip is steering clear of email.

“The biggest mistake people make is starting their days without a clear plan for what they intend to do,” said Laura Vanderkam, author of “Off the Clock: Feel Less Busy While Getting More Done,” who added that whatever plan you make should include open times for inevitable curveballs.

“Email can fit in around the edges, because, well, it’s always there,” she said. “Email expands to fill all available space.”

Mistake #3: Not getting dressed.

For many, this really only pertains to COVID-19 times, but experts say it’s important to put on actual clothes.

“Getting dressed properly helps,” Allcott said. “There’s a thing in psychology called ‘enclothed cognition’ which shows us that the brain performs differently if you’re wearing a suit, and you get better intelligence scores if you’re wearing a scientist’s lab coat — even if you’re not a scientist.”

While you may not want to, say, break out a suit while you sit at home, preliminary studies do suggest that getting dressed can have a real influence on a person’s attention levels, in large part because of the symbolism of it all. As psychotherapist Ryan G. Beale previously told HuffPost: “It tells your brain something new is about to happen and helps you shift gears.”

Mistake #4: Skipping breakfast and a.m. hydration.

“Breakfast is a huge part of a successful morning routine because it provides you with the energy that you need to focus on whatever it is that you have going on in the rest of the day,” said Stephanie Nelson, a registered dietitian and in-house nutrition expert for MyFitnessPal.

Nelson recommended something “balanced with protein and carbs,” but said you should really be realistic about what you’ve actually got time for — and keep it simple. Nelson, for example, likes making herself protein pancakes for breakfast, but a much simpler choice might be, say, a piece of toast with some peanut butter.

Also hydrate, said Erica Zellner, a health coach with Parsley Health in New York City. “Hydration plays an important role in our ability to concentrate and be productive. Our brains are strongly influenced by our hydration status,” she said. “Studies have shown that even mild dehydration, as little as a 1% dip in hydration status, can impair mood, memory, concentration and executive function.”

She personally recommends drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of water daily, but just getting in the habit of downing a glass of H2O first thing in the morning can be a good starting point.

Mistake #5: Doing too much multitasking.

When you’re trying to whip through a long to-do list, it’s tempting to juggle. (It’s also unavoidable if you’re balancing work, child care and other responsibilities.)

But to the extent it is possible, you should aim to “monotask,” Zellner said.

“Multitasking reduces productivity by up to 40% and can have negative long-term effects on the brain,” she explained. She urges her clients to focus on one thing for a given period of time, which has the added bonus of potentially putting them in a state of flow.

Transitioning to monotasking can take a few weeks, Zellner said, as you retrain your brain to focus on a specific task for longer periods of time. But stick with it, and pencil in plenty of breaks.

Mistake #6: Not prepping the night before.

At the end of a long day, the last thing anyone wants to do is plan for the next. But experts say it can make a big difference in productivity and might ultimately buy you more downtime.

“I recommend that at the end of each work day, people list out their must-dos for the next day. Then look at the ‘hard landscape’ of the day ― meetings, calls ― and figure out a rough schedule. When can you do the tasks that must be done by the end of the day?” Vanderkam said.

Another key part of preparing for the next day?

“Quality sleep,” Zellner said. “A 2016 study confirmed that sleep deprivation will impair a process known as selective attention, or the ability to focus on specific information when other things are occurring around you. This means that a poor night of sleep will hinder your ability to monotask and be productive.”

Mistake #7: Not prioritizing calm.

The mornings can be chaotic, particularly if you’re trying to cram a lot in while caring for others. But Bailey warned that trying to do too much can truly backfire.

“If we start the day off on a note of anxiety instead of a slower note — when we’re disconnected and experience some calm — that’s going to carry through the rest of the day,” he said. What “calm” looks like is really personal. Maybe it’s meditating for five minutes. Maybe it’s sitting quietly with a cup of coffee. Maybe it’s talking your pet for a walk.

Also, whenever you’re trying to make changes to your morning routine, go slow. Make one (ish) at a time, ideally tacked on to something you already do, Nelson said. So, if you already make coffee every morning, could you use the brew time to whip up a balanced breakfast? To do some deep breathing? To formulate your daily plan?

“If you try and change everything you do in the morning,” Nelson said. “It’s going to set you up for failure.”

Because when it comes to productivity, slow and steady truly does win the race.
