SNL Won’t Force Cast To Work With Elon Musk

Saturday Night Live” cast members won’t be forced to appear alongside controversial billionaire Elon Musk when he hosts the show.  “Speaking historically, if a cast member has been that unhappy, they don’t have to do it,” a source told us. “[‘SNL’ boss Lorne Michaels] won’t ever make them do anything they don’t want to do.”  Musk is set to host the show on May 8th, but some cast members have made it clear that they’re less than enthused by the prospect of having him on stage.  After Musk tweeted, “Let’s find out just how live Saturday Night Live really is,” cast member Bowen Yang wrote: “What the f–k does this even mean?”  Musk will join the cast for rehearsals at 30 Rock beginning on Tuesday.  No cast members have pulled out of the show yet, we’re told. The source added: “Whether you like him or not, Elon is a very interesting character. … He’s very much a showman.”

Night Court Reboot

Night Court” is getting a reboot on NBC.  The revamped series will star Melissa Rauch and John Larroquette, according to Deadline. The comedy will reportedly be similar to the 1984 original, which aired for nine seasons.   Larroquette reprises his role as nighttime prosecutor Daniel “Dan” Fielding while Rauch will executive produce and star as an all-new original character named Abby Stone.  Rauch’s character will reportedly be the daughter of Judge Harold “Harry” Stone, who was played by the late Harry Anderson (1952 to 2018). As the legacy character for the Stones, Rauch’s character will serve as a nighttime judge at the Manhattan arraignment court much like her scripted father, Deadline reports.

Does Britney Spears Suffer From Dementia?

Britney Spears’ father Jamie has reportedly claimed that the pop star has dementia.  The two have long been involved in legal drama over her conservatorship — a legal guardianship that gives Jamie control over her finances and everyday life. The conservatorship has been in effect since her public breakdown over a decade ago.  Court proceedings have grown more intense lately with Spears herself planning to address the court soon, while interest in the case has also grown and the #FreeBritney movement has gained more followers demanding the signer be released from the conservatorship.  Now, the claims of dementia have come to light in a documentary set to air in Britain this week by journalist Mobeen Azhar, according to Daily Mail.  The outlet reports that Jamie claims his daughter suffers from the cognitive decline condition as justification for his ongoing control over her assets.

Will Camilla Ever Be Called Queen?

Tom Parker Bowles, son of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, isn’t sure if his mother will ever be known as “Queen Camilla.”  “I honestly don’t know if mum will be called queen,” the 46-year-old told the U.K. Times on Thursday, as quoted by People magazine. “That hasn’t been decided. There are a lot of interesting Sky documentaries about that I’m sure, but I honestly don’t know if that’s true.”  The debate concerning Camilla’s future title started in February 2005 when the palace announced she and Charles were tying the knot in April of that year.  “Mrs. Parker Bowles will use the title HRH The Duchess of Cornwall after marriage,” the statement revealed. “It is intended that Mrs. Parker Bowles should use the title HRH The Princess Consort when The Prince of Wales accedes to The Throne.”  Reports have long insisted that Charles intends on making his wife queen consort after he’s crowned king. However, Buckingham Palace hasn’t made any official announcements yet.  Camilla was initially blamed by some for Diana’s unhappiness as she complained publicly about Camilla’s continuing close relationship with Charles. Those hard feelings seemingly faded with time after Diana’s death. When Charles and Camilla got married, they had a low-key ceremony.  Since joining the British royal family, Camilla has been active in many charities and has accompanied her husband on numerous foreign trips.

Prince Charles Is Still Angry With Harry

A royal watcher is claiming Prince Charles is “still fuming” over Harry’s interview with Oprah.  “Charles is still fuming about Harry throwing shade at him and the royal family in the big interview and won’t let it drop,” an insider reportedly told US Weekly’s Christina Garibaldi.  Harry was in the UK last month to attend the funeral for his grandfather, Prince Philip, but he and Charles “barely communicated,” Garibaldi says.  Sources told the journalist the father and son did not “resolve their differences” when Harry returned and that the pair ‘barely communicated’ with one another.  The fallout from the sitdown between Harry, Oprah and Meghan Markle has convinced Charles “firmly believes that his son doesn’t deserve the privilege of being a royal,” sources told Garibaldi, according to The UK Sun.

Is J-Lo Hooking Up With Ben Affleck?

While Jennifer Lopez was recently snapped hanging out with ex Ben Affleck, the pair are reportedly just friends.  TMZ reports that they are “strictly friends,” despite their recent reunion following Lopez’s split from Alex Rodriguez. While a future reconciliation is certainly possible, they are keeping things platonic for the time being.  Still, several signs indicate that the two actors could soon reunite, as Affleck has been spotted multiple times going to J.Lo’s California home during the day, we hear, after having been picked up in a white Escalade SUV that allegedly belongs to Lopez and then taken to her nearby mansion.  While the pair have not been spotted together, a source says, “Security picks him up at a nearby location and drops him off after spending a few hours at her house.”  Affleck and Lopez were engaged in 2002, and famously dubbed “Bennifer” by the media. But they postponed their wedding in 2003. They split months later in January 2004.
******If she was YOUR ex, you’d go back for a little trip down memory lane, wouldn’t ya???
******At least she sends a car for him, which is more than Charles ever did for Camilla!!

Olympia Dukakis Dies

Oscar-winning actress Olympia Dukakis died Saturday in New York City, her family has announced. She was 89.  Dukakis’ brother Apollo wrote on Facebook Saturday that she had passed away after “many months of failing health.” Her representative, Allison Levy, confirmed her death to the Washington Post.  Born to Greek immigrants in Lowell, Mass., Dukakis grew up in the Boston suburbs of Somerville and Arlington and worked as a stage actress for decades — playing a range of roles and running a regional theater on a shoestring budget — before becoming a breakout movie star in the 1980s.  “I did not become an actor in order to become famous or rich. I became an actor so I could play the great parts,” she said.  She won a best supporting actress Oscar for her portrayal of the tart-tongued Rose Castorini in 2987’s Moonstruck.
*******Her brother also ran for president, as we recall!!!

STUPID NEWS

COVID Violation Was Actually A Mannequin

Police called to a Nova Scotia restaurant on a report of a COVID-19 lockdown violation discovered the alleged illegal customer seated at a table was actually a mannequin.  Mike Cormier, the owner of the Ardmore Tea Room in Halifax, said police visited his eatery Thursday morning after someone called to report someone was dining indoors at the facility in violation of shut-down orders.  “The officer got out and was looking in the window, and I saw her looking at the mannequin,” Cormier told Global News.  He said he went out and spoke to the officer, who confirmed a caller had apparently mistaken the mannequin seated at a table for a human customer.  Halifax Regional Police spokesman John MacLeod confirmed officers were called to the restaurant Thursday morning on a report of “individuals not following public health directives.”  “Officers attended and found there were no issues or violations at that time,” MacLeod said.  Cormier posted a photo to the restaurant’s Instagram page showing the mannequin with the police cars in the background.

Dog Rescued Between 2 Buildings

Authorities in San Francisco conducted an unusual and difficult rescue when a dog fell into a narrow gap between two buildings.  San Francisco Animal Care and Control said the 12-year-old canine, nicknamed “Baby Jessica” by rescuers, had become stuck between two buildings on San Bruno Avenue, about 6 feet below a deck.  Rescuers said the operation was complicated by the narrow space and pipes, wires, loose boards and nails that adorned the gap.  The crew attempted to use a board provided by the building superintendent to give the dog a platform to walk to safely on, but the wood was too long and bowed under its own weight in the middle.  Rescuers ended up squeezing into the gap to hoist the canine to safety.  See the video HERE.

Giant Mango

A pair of Colombian farmers are now Guinness World Record holders after they grew a massive mango weighing 9.36 pounds.  German Orlando Novoa Barrera and Reina Maria Marroquin grew the mango at San Martin farm in the Boyaca area of Guayata.  The pair said they could tell early on that the mango was growing much larger than the other fruits on their tree. Barrera said his daughter, Dabegy, suggested the mango could be a new world record after it was harvested and weighed.  The 9.36-pound mango took the title of the world’s heaviest from a 7.57-pound mango grown in 2009 in the Philippines.  “Our goal with this Guinness World Records title is to show to the world that in Colombia we are humble, hardworking people who love the countryside and that the land that is cultivated with love produces great fruits. In addition, this represents in times of pandemic a message of hope and joy for our people,” Barrera told Guinness World Records.

12-Year-Old Graduating From College

A 12-year-old North Carolina boy who took a few extra classes in his spare time during the COVID-19 pandemic is now preparing to graduate high school and college in the same week.  Mike Wimmer, 12, of Salisbury, will graduate Rowan-Cabarrus Community College with an associate’s degree May 21 and will graduate Concord Academy High School just seven days later May 28.  Wimmer has a 4.0 GPA at the college and a 5.45 GPA in high school, earning him the role of his class valedictorian.  “I went through all of the grades in school at a faster pace,” Wimmer told WCNC-TV. “I’m like a sponge, I take in knowledge very fast.”  Wimmer said he had some extra time during the COVID-19 pandemic and discovered that if he added just a couple of extra classes he could graduate from both schools at the same time. He ended up completing the equivalent of two years of high school and two years of community college classes in a single year.  The 12-year-old said his lifelong interest in technology and robots led him to create his own start-up, Reflect Social, which aims to simplify how smart home technology works.

8 Home Repairs You Can’t Afford to Put Off

Huffington Post

  1. Anything Involving Water

A water spot on the wall or ceiling can mean a leaky roof or a leaky pipe. If not fixed, the leak will just get bigger and can destroy floors, walls, furniture and more.

“Any time you notice a stain, those should be addressed immediately because that indicates you potentially have moisture entering your home. Moisture in small amounts will not turn into mold, but if left, mold and continued damage will occur so it is important to address these situations when they occur,” said home inspector John Wanninger. He and his INSPECTIX team in Nebraska have inspected more than 30,000 homes..

The same goes for a leaky faucet, running toilet or dripping water heater.

“The cost of allowing a running toilet to run will cost more over the course of a month or two than it would have cost to fix it up front,” he said.

Don’t ignore higher-than-normal water bills. As Starrett realized, they were a sign something was wrong somewhere.

  1. Anything Involving Electricity

Do you have lights that flicker? Switches or outlets that stopped working? Breakers tripping? GFI outlets that won’t reset?

These can be signs of electrical problems.

“A flickering light can be something as easy as a loose light bulb or it could be something as severe as a loose wire,” Wanninger said. “Any of those things when it comes to electricity should be considered important and time sensitive.”

In houses built between 1965 and 1974, connections in some older aluminum wiring may be failing. Older houses built in the 1950s and before had knob and tube wiring. The connections could be going bad.

Circuits can be overloaded. Sometimes when people update their homes, they don’t update the wiring.

Electrical problems can lead to fires, and fires can lead to injury or property damage.

  1. Pests

Bugs and rodents might be small, but they can cause big issues.

“Termites can do an extensive amount of damage over a period of time. If they go undetected for three or four years, minor damage becomes pretty heavy damage,” Wanninger said.

There’s no telling how long pests like termites and carpenter ants have been chewing before you noticed them, so taking immediate action is important.

Be on the lookout for signs of termites and carpenter ants and what they leave behind:

  • Sawdust or wood damage.
  • Mud tubes.
  • Discarded wings near closed windows, doors or other access points.
  • Large black ants.
  • Faint rustling noises in walls.
  • Holes in cardboard boxes, especially on the bottom.

As for furry pests, they can spread diseases with their droppings and can chew through insulation.

“When you hear noises in your attic, it’s often either mice, rats, squirrels, or raccoons. In any case, it’s something that should be addressed immediately because left unattended they can all cause an extensive amount of damage,” Wanninger said.

PRO TIP

Before you embark on a home improvement project, ask yourself when to DIY it vs. hire a pro.

  1. Peeling Caulk and Paint

See #1: Water.

If caulk comes loose and peels away, water gets in and you know what happens then and it isn’t good.

“We don’t think about cracked joints in your tile bathroom. It doesn’t look severe and it doesn’t look like a big issue, but as time goes on, moisture gets in there and deteriorates the shower board and the material behind the wall. Before you know it, you get yourself a $2,000 or $3,000 repair,” Wanninger said.

The same for paint. Paint is like skin for the house. It protects it from water and pests. Removing that protection can cause problems.

  1. Broken or Malfunctioning HVAC

Having a lack of climate control isn’t just an uncomfortable inconvenience, it can lead to bigger issues.

“If the humidity is too high in the home, it will pass through the drywall and enter the attic area,” Wanninger said. “If you get moisture on your windows in the wintertime on the inside of the glass in your house, it is an indication your humidity level is too high.”

In the winter, that moisture can freeze and eventually melt, causing a leak. In the summer, excess moisture can lead to mold and mildew.

If you notice your HVAC isn’t working as it should, taking care of it before it breaks can reduce stress on the system and possibly prevent a bigger issue.

  1. Cracks

Some cracks in walls and foundations are harmless, but they aren’t something to ignore.

“One thing concrete does is crack, it’s pretty standard,” Wanninger said. “If you get cracks in foundation walls or floors that are considered expansive or starting to displace at a greater level, that may be the indication that you are having structural issues or movements that need to be reviewed before they become a bigger issue.”

Keep an eye on the size of the cracks. Measure the length and width periodically and note any changes.

  1. Smoke Alarms and Carbon Monoxide Detectors

It sounds simple, but replacing batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors should happen immediately after they begin chirping, even if it happens in the middle of the night.

“At two o’clock in the morning when the thing does start chirping, your mind says you’ll fix it tomorrow and tomorrow never comes,” Wanninger said.

Better yet, replace your batteries annually when you change your clocks for Daylight Saving Time.

  1. Darkening Ceilings Near Fireplaces

If you notice darkening on your ceiling or a sooty smell in your house, it could mean your fireplace isn’t drafting properly. That could bring deadly gasses into the house.

“There’s no second-guessing that. It would cause carbon monoxide poisoning,” Wanninger warned.
