Will Smith Releases “Fresh Prince” Reunion Trailer

Will Smith released on Friday the first trailer for HBO Max’s upcoming Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion special featuring the show’s original cast.  He meets back up with his former castmates on the set of 1990s sitcom in celebration of the show’s 30th anniversary.  Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton), Tatyana Ali (Ashley), Karyn Parsons (Hilary), Joseph Marcell (Geoffrey), Daphne Reid (Vivian) and DJ Jazzy Jeff (Jazz) join Smith as they reminisce about their time together and pay homage to the late James Avery who portrayed Uncle Phil.  Smith also invites Janet Hubert to the reunion, the actress who originally portrayed Vivian for the show’s first three seasons until Reid took over the role in Season 4.  The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air ran for six seasons on NBC from 1990 to 1996.  The special will air on HBO Max on Nov. 19.  See the video HERE.

LeVar Burton Fans Want Him To Host Jeopardy!

LeVar Burton, star of “Reading Rainbow” and “Star Trek,” is speaking out in response to a fan petition calling for him to replace the late Alex Trebek as the next host of “Jeopardy!”  A petition calling for Burton to become the “Jeopardy!” host was started on Change.org.  “Between hosting 21 seasons of the educational Reading Rainbow, playing the brainiac engineer Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: the Next Generation, and filling the roll of Kunta Kinte in the ever important mini-series Roots, LeVar Burton has inspired and shaped the minds of several generations of trivia-loving nerds. This petition is to show Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. and producers Mike Richards and Harry Friedman just how much love the public has for Burton, and how much we’d all love to see him as the next host of Jeopardy!” it reads.  As of Saturday afternoon, three days after the petition went live, it had over 74,200 signatures. The goal was 75,000.   Burton caught wind of the petition and responded to it positively in a tweet Thursday.  “Even if nothing comes from it, I can’t tell how much I appreciate all of your love and support!” Burton wrote, along with a link to the petition.

Prince Harry Makes Appearance On Dancing Program

Prince Harry made an unscheduled video appearance on “Strictly Come Dancing,” the original British version of “Dancing With the Stars,” on Saturday. He made the cameo for a very special reason: To support his longtime friend and fellow British military veteran JJ Chalmers, one of the show contestants.  Harry was shown having a video chat with Chalmers and his dance partner, Amy Dowden. Many “Strictly Come Dancing” viewers tweeted that the Duke looked “happy,” “relaxed” and “healthy.” The footage showed Harry grinning as he spoke from a white couch, decorated with printed cushions, while candles and artwork were seen in the background.  In September, Harry’s wife Meghan also made a surprise television appearance on the season finale of the reality competition show “America’s Got Talent.” She recorded a video message for singer Archie Williams, who was released from prison in 2019 after 37 years following his exoneration for a 1982 rape and stabbing of which he was wrongfully convicted.

Prince Charles was showered with social media best wishes from throughout the royal family on his 72nd birthday Saturday — with the exception of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.  They did not publicly wish his dad a happy birthday.  The couple, who stepped down as “senior” royals this year, may have sent private wishes, the report noted.  The other royal congratulations were quite nice, though.  On Queen Elizabeth’s official Instagram, she shared a black-and-white photo of her first-born as a baby on her lap.  “Wishing The Prince of Wales a very happy birthday today!” she wrote, along with a balloon and a birthday cake emoji.  Wills and Kate also publicly shared their wishes on Instagram — with a photo of a laughing Prince Charles wearing a cream blazer and military accolades.  “Wishing a very Happy Birthday to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales!” Prince William and Kate Middleton wrote.

Real Brad Pitt Wins Case Against Fake Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt has won his legal bid to get a bizarre $100,000 lawsuit against him thrown out of court.  Kelli Christina was scammed out of $40,000 by an Internet con artist who posed as Pitt and won her over with “discussions of marriage.”  But even after she realized that she wasn’t actually communicating with the Oscar winner, she still sued the real Pitt — claiming in court papers that he should have done more to protect his fans from impostors.  But on Thursday a judge dismissed her suit.  Christina, of Plano, Texas, has claimed that the scammer approached her online in 2018 and asked her to organize a series of fundraisers for Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation, which constructs new homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina.  In court papers, she said that the fake Pitt asked her for $40,000 to attend the events, but “canceled” at the last minute each time — then disappeared with the money.  She even claimed that the pair developed such a close relationship that they had “discussions of marriage,” court docs say.  But a judge granted Pitt’s motion to dismiss the case in a Texas court on Thursday, according to court docs seen by Page Six, calling it “meritless.”

Donnie Wahlberg Leaves Another 2020 Tip

Donnie Wahlberg left a $2,020 tip on a $35.27 bill to his server, Denise Andrews, at Marshland Restaurant’s Plymouth, Mass., location.  “A very special thank you to our friend @donniewahlberg!” the restaurant’s Instagram account captioned a picture of the receipt. “When asked about it all he said was ‘who’s up next?!’”  His tip is part of the “#2020tipchallenge.” The location’s owner, Marty Finch, later told People that Andrews divvied the tip among her coworkers.  “Denise was very generous. She tipped out her fellow staff and the guys in the kitchen, and she actually donated too,” he Finch said. “She’s working on getting two families turkey meals during the holidays, so she’s generous herself. Donnie said to pass it on, to keep this positive stuff going, so she’s trying to do that as well.”  In early January, Wahlberg left a $2,020 tip at an Illinois IHOP to kick the year off right.

Dancing With the Stars pro Gleb Savchenko’s divorce from Elena Samodanova is getting acrimonious.  After announcing their split on Nov. 6, dancer Samodanova, 36, claimed that “ongoing infidelity and recent inappropriate relationship” ended their 14-year marriage.  Savchenko, who has two young daughters with his wife, quickly denied speculation about a fling with his latest DWTS partner, Selling Sunset’s Chrisell Stause, 39.  “I will not stand by and allow false accusations and internet rumors go unaddressed,” Savchenko, 37, said.  “My relationship with Chrishell was and remains strictly platonic…..Our friendship during our season on DWTS was not the reason for our split.”

One-Legged Lifeguard To The Rescue!

An off-duty lifeguard in New Jersey is being hailed as a hero after he shed his prosthetic leg to jump into Newark Bay and rescue the driver of an SUV that plunged into the water.  Anthony Capuano said he had just finished a workout at Stephen R. Gregg Park in Bayonne when he saw a crowd of people running to the shore.  Capuano arrived at the shore of Newark Bay and saw an SUV sinking in the water about 50 feet from shore. The driver appeared to be trapped inside the vehicle and was yelling out the window.  “Someone had said out loud, ‘Does anybody know how to swim?'” Capuano told The Jersey Journal. “And I was just like, ‘Oh. I guess that’s me.’ And then I jumped in.”  Capuano, who lost his leg when he was struck by a train 11 years ago, shed his prosthetic leg and swam out to the vehicle.  The lifeguard and swim coach at Bayonne’s British Swim School said he arrived at the vehicle just in time.

President Honors Favorite Dog Breed

The president of Turkmenistan honored his favorite breed of dog by erecting a golden canine statue on a pedestal in the country’s capital.  President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, whose affection for the Alabai dog breed previously led him to release a book about the breed, unveiled the golden statue in the center of a roundabout in Ashbagat.  Turkmenistan’s state-run news agency said the statue captures the “dignity and self-assuredness” of the Alabai, which is also known as a central Asian shepherd.  Officially released footage from the unveiling of the statue shows a wraparound screen installed on the monument’s base playing videos of Alabais in action.  The statue was installed as part of an infrastructure initiative in Ashgabat that includes several new high-rise residential buildings and a new shopping center.

Robo-Wolves Protect Town

A Japanese town is protecting itself from wandering bears with a pair of unusual guardians: motion-detecting robot wolves.  Officials in Takikawa, on the island of Hokkaido, said concern about an increase of bear incursions into residential neighborhoods this year led to their purchasing two Monster Wolves, robotic guard canines created by machinery firm Ohta Seiki in partnership with a local university.  The Monster Wolves, which are made of metal and covered in fake fur to make them appear real to other animals, are outfitted with motion detectors that cause them to activate. The wolves then flash red lights in their eyes, move their heads back and forth and emit a series of howling and screeching noises.  “We want to let the bears know, ‘human settlements aren’t where you live,’ and help with the coexistence of bears and people,” Yuji Ota, head of Ohta Seiki, told Japanese newspaper The Mainichi.  City officials said the wolves have thus far been effective in preventing bears from entering the town. Fastest Bottle Of Bourbon

A Maryland distillery and a California aviation company are teaming up to make the “world’s fastest bourbon” by aging the liquor in a Harrier jet traveling at 700 mph.  Scott Sanders, a retired U.S. Navy rear admiral and co-owner of Tobacco Barn Distillery, teamed up with Art Nalls, a retired Marine Corps lieutenant colonel and owner of a California aviation company, to devise the idea for the liquor they dubbed 700 MPH Bourbon.  The concept was born when Sanders and Nalls were talking about the former British Royal Navy Sea Harrier jet that Nalls bought and brought to the United States to fly in air shows.  Nalls said Sanders told him how his distillery is aging batches of rum below decks on a decommissioned warship.  The 700 MPH Bourbon begins with a mix of at least 51% corn plus rye that is fermented, distilled and placed in new charred oak barrels to age. The men said the bourbon needs to age for more than three years, and the plan is for the booze to spend at least some of that time flying in the Harrier.  The plan is to sell each bottle of 700 MPH Bourbon for about $145 a bottle, with a portion of the proceeds going to Semper Fi & America’s Fund, a nonprofit wounded and ill service members and their families.

1. Set Up a Bare-Bones Budget

Transition to a bare-bones budget that prioritizes only essential spending, like your rent or mortgage, utilities and groceries. Pause or cancel monthly costs that aren’t necessary, like your cable subscription or gym membership.

 

2. Reach Out for Help

Don’t dismiss the idea that your lenders and service providers may be able to help you through this tough financial patch. Many credit card companies have hardship programs that can lower your monthly payments or waive fees. You might be able to switch to an income-based repayment plan for your student loans or request a deferment or forbearance. Contact your creditors and bill collectors to see what assistance they can help you with. Just be sure you understand what’s required to catch up on payments.

 

3. Take Advantage of No Commute

Not driving to and from work has its benefits. Contact your car insurance company to see if you can lower your premiums now that you’re driving a lot less. Consider renting out your car to bring in extra cash. Getaround is one peer-to-peer car rental platform that pays you to loan your car to strangers.

 

4. Opt for a Cheaper Cell Phone Plan

Having a reliable phone is essential when you’re applying for jobs, but that doesn’t mean you have to pay over $100 a month for cell service. You can get a cheap cell phone plan for less than $20. Yeah, seriously.

 

5. Be Strategic About Your Grocery Shopping

Plan out your meals and stick to your list to nix impulse shopping at the grocery store. Limit the frequency of your grocery trips to no more than once a week. Center your meals around what’s on sale — and what you already have at home. Shop generic or ask the brands you use to send you coupons. These other shopping tips will help you save money on groceries, too.

 

6. Pay for Purchases in Cash

A cash envelope system will keep you from going over your budget. Take only enough cash you can afford to spend when you’re out shopping, and leave the debit and credit cards at home.

 

7. Save Your Change

Even though you’ve got to restrict your spending, small treats like buying a cup of coffee or ordering a cheap pizza can be a nice boost during the rut of unemployment. Make a habit of rounding up to the nearest dollar when you make a purchase and putting that change aside. As that money adds up, you’ll be able to afford a small treat, guilt-free.

 

8. Entertain Yourself Without Spending Money

Life on a bare-bones budget doesn’t have to mean absolutely no fun. This list of 100 free things to do will give you ideas for when you need a break from applying to jobs all day.

 

9. Get Free Goods and Services From Neighbors

When you’re working with a tight budget, anything you can get for free is welcome. Buy Nothing groups, Nextdoor and Craigslist are three platforms where neighbors offer up free items. You could also choose to barter by exchanging something you have (or a service you can provide) for something you need.

 

10. Check for Cash That’s Been Left Behind

Your state might be sitting on cash owed to you from forgotten security deposits, uncashed paychecks and unknown life insurance policies. Checking to see if you have unclaimed money can be a quick and easy way to boost your bank account. If you’re out of luck going that route, dig through your wallet to see if you’re holding a balance on old gift cards. Remove your couch cushions to unearth spare change. Every little bit helps.
