Aaron Carter Dies
Aaron Carter, the singer who rose to fame as a teenage heartthrob in the early 2000s, has died. He was 34. Sheriff’s deputies responded to his home in Lancaster around 11 a.m. after his body was found in the bathtub by a house sitter. An alert from law enforcement indicated that homicide detectives were sent to investigate the scene, which is standard operating procedure in such deaths. Law enforcement sources told TMZ that there has been no information or evidence of foul play. Carter was engaged to his on-again-off-again partner, singer Melanie Martin, and the pair have an infant son named Prince Lyric Carter. He released his first album “Aaron Carter” when he was 9 years old, and even performed as the opening act for the Backstreet Boys — in which his older brother, Nick Carter, was a member. His debut album was followed by his hit record “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)” when he was 12. That record peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 list and sold more than three million copies. He also made appearances on shows over the years including the beloved Disney Channel show Lizzie McGuire, which increased his popularity among teenage girls, and later as a contestant on Dancing With The Stars. Hilary Duff, the star of Lizzie McGuire whom Carter previously dated, posted a touching tribute to him on her Instagram.

Mariah Carey and Martha Stewart got caught up in the age-old battle of when it’s too soon to celebrate Christmas over the last week. “Mariah, you know me. I am a traditionalist with a twist,” Stewart said during an interview on the “Today” show last week. “You cannot give up Thanksgiving just because you don’t like turkey,” she implored. “I love turkey, and many, many other people love turkey. So, do not think that we are going to give up Thanksgiving just because you say so.” That came after Carey posted a short video on her social media Nov. 1, which at first showed her as a cackling Halloween witch before quickly transforming into a Santa suit-wearing, reindeer-riding diva, belting “It’s time!” over the backdrop of her mega-hit “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Mariah responded to Martha tweeting, “Dearest Martha!! NEVER will I give up Thanksgiving!! Cruise appeared as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, marking her 70th anniversary on the throne, but the ailing royal was plagued by mobility issues and unable to meet him. “The Queen let it be known that she was really disappointed not to have met Tom at the pageant, so he was invited to have a special tour of Windsor Castle with everything laid on for him. Afterwards, just the two of them had tea together,” the source said. The visit was a success, with Cruise given the chance to fire a ceremonial gun. “She loved seeing him and they really hit it off, so much so that she invited him back for lunch. The luxurious home, built in 2001, features a library, billiard and media rooms, a terrace and a mahogany bar, along with vast closets that would please any diva, according to the Oct. 28 listing posted on Realtor.com. Outside, on the sprawling grounds, there’s a resort-style swimming pool and spa. Whitney purchased the five-bedroom property, located at 1014 Tullamore Place, in 2003 for $1.38 million. She sold it five years later for $1.2 million, just days after the couple’s divorce was finalized on April 24, 2007.

Duran Duran Member Has Cancer
Founding Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor is suffering from stage 4 prostate cancer, his bandmates revealed during their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction speech on Saturday night He was unable to attend the band’s induction ceremony on Saturday night but Simon Le Bon read a letter Taylor had written, in which he revealed that he was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer four years ago. “Many families have experienced the slow burn of this disease and of course, we are no different,” Taylor wrote in his letter. “So I speak from the perspective of a family man but with profound humility to the band, the greatest fans a group could have, and this exceptional accolade.” He said he has been receiving excellent treatment, but had recently suffered a “setback.” He acknowledged that although his condition is “not immediately life-threatening, there is no cure.” “Despite the exceptional efforts of my team, I had to be honest in that both physically and mentally, I would be pushing my boundaries,” the letter read. “However, none of this needs to or should detract from what this band (with or without me) has achieved and sustained for 44 years.” The induction ceremony was intended to be a reunion for Duran Duran, which Taylor was a member of from 1980 to 1986 and again from 2001 to 2006. He played guitar on the band’s first three albums, which included the hit songs “Rio” and “Hungry Like the Wolf.” Also inducted to the Hall of Fame on Saturday were Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, and Carly Simon.

Woman Finds 2 Pythons Mating Behind Microwave
A reptile wrangler was summoned to an Australian home where a resident discovered the cause of a moving microwave was a pair of mating pythons. A video posted to Facebook shows Stuart McKenzie of Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers responding to a home in Buderim where a woman discovered two carpet pythons in the throes of passion in her kitchen. The snake catching business said the woman noticed her microwave had moved and looked behind it to find the pair of mating snakes. “We were able to get there very quickly and relocate the two love birds back out into the bush where they belong,” the post said. Halloween Candy Leads To Lottery Win
A Maryland man said running late and needing to buy Halloween candy led him to visit a store he otherwise wouldn’t have gone to — and win a $1 million Powerball prize. The 58-year-old Bowie man told Maryland Lottery officials he stopped at the Giant store in Bowie because he needed to buy Halloween candy ahead of the holiday, but the store wouldn’t have been his first choice. “I wasn’t actually going to go to Giant,” the player said, “but I was in a hurry to get home.” The man bought 10 quick pick tickets for the Oct. 29 Powerball drawing while at the store. The player said he checked his tickets the next morning after learning the $800 million jackpot hadn’t been won, discovering he had scored a $1 million prize. “It was on the last of the 10 tickets,” he said. “I looked it up and this thing is saying $1 million!” The player said he was in disbelief, so he had his brother double-check the ticket and confirm the win.

Bear Caught Stealing Cookies
A bear paid a visit to a cafe in California and the bruin was caught on camera stealing cookies before being ejected by the police. An employee at the Nestle Toll House Cafe by Chip at Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe captured photos and videos when a bear barged into the business about 7 p.m. Wednesday. The bear climbed onto a counter and ate some cookies while employees waited for police to arrive. After officers arrived, they and were able to chase the bear out of the business. The bear was not the first to get into trouble due to its sweet tooth — a bear was caught on camera in September stealing cupcakes from a 2-year-old’s birthday party in West Hartford, Conn. Toddler Gets Head Stuck In Training Seat
An evening of potty training went badly wrong after a toddler got her head stuck in a toilet seat. Kay Stewart, 37, had been trying to potty train her two-year-old daughter Harper at their home in Wallsend, North Tyneside. But the toddler decided to try to wear the seat around her neck and got into difficulty, crying: “Mammy, I’m stuck.” Efforts to get the seat off were unsuccessful and, in desperation, she asked her 16-year-old daughter Shannon to call firefighters for help. Crews used small tools to remove the potty, and amused Harper’s siblings with the blue lights on their fire truck. Ms Stewart said: “They were so calming and kept the other kids busy while helping Harper. “Harper gave the firefighter a big hug once he was done.

Mistakes Travelers Make On A Long-Haul Flight

Wearing Uncomfortable Clothes
“The most common mistake people make on long-haul flights is not dressing properly,” said Phil Dengler, co-founder of The Vacationer. “Since you will be sitting in the same seat for six or more hours, it is essential to be as comfortable as possible.” Avoid heavy and restrictive clothing and instead choose soft fabrics and stretchy garments for peak comfort and coziness. Wearing layers is helpful for the shifting cabin temperatures. And don’t forget to invest in some compression socks for health and comfort during long-haul flights. “While I’m usually a proponent of dressing nicely on flights, the super long-haul ones are the ones where I see many people make the mistake of dressing too cute and then winding up uncomfortable,” said Gabby Beckford, founder of the travel site Packs Light. “I always get compliments on my flight fit ― matching top and bottom neutral sweats. Or, I recommend bringing a comfortable flight fit to change into once you reach a cruising altitude.” In addition to wearing comfortable, stretchy clothes, you’ll also want to avoid wearing tight, restrictive shoes when you fly. “Loosen the laces so you can slip on and off to get comfortable,” Brogan advised. “At the end of the flight, you’ll probably find that your feet have swollen. This is normal and another reason to choose comfortable footwear.”
Choosing A Seat By The Restroom
Your seat selection can make a big difference in the quality of your flight experience. If you’re looking for a more peaceful time, consider choosing a seat that isn’t in a high-traffic area. “Sitting near the restroom may sound convenient, but it’s never fun to be in that row when a line forms outside the restroom,” said Paul Jacobs, general manager and vice president at Kayak North America. “Sit far away and use the walk to stretch.”
Watching The Clock
As the saying goes, “A watched pot never boils.” Similarly, time will seem to move a lot more slowly during a long flight if you keep staring at the clock. “Once you’re on board, set your watch to the time of the place you will be landing in, but try to avoid looking at it and counting down the hours,” Brogan advised. “Similarly, don’t look at the ‘where are we’ map. You’ll land soon enough!”
Forgetting To Double-Check Upgrade Options
Don’t assume you can’t afford to upgrade your seat on a long-haul flight. Check the upgrade options when you check in for your flight online. “I always check in as soon as the option is available ― 24 hours before flight time via the airline app,” Beckford said. “When you do that, you will see what seat options are available. Often on the day of the flight, upgrades will be drastically reduced in cost.” “For example, on my flight from Cape Town to Newark, originally upgrades were $3,000 ― but on the day of the flight, those same upgraded seats were $700,” she noted. “That little upgrade will definitely make a 14-hour flight more enjoyable.”
Traveling Without Sleep Essentials
“You should bring good earplugs or noise-canceling headphones if you plan to sleep,” Dengler said. “Additionally, a good sleep mask can make a huge difference. Finally, I recommend finding a good neck pillow before flying.” He noted that “not all neck pillows are created equal,” so do your research and find the one that works for you. “Get the ones that attach to the headrest,” Jacobs said. “It’s a total game changer.”
Flying Without Entertainment
“Before your flight, download movies, music or podcasts to your devices like phone, iPad or laptop and ensure they are fully charged before traveling so you have guaranteed entertainment options,” Brogan said. “On a recent flight, my in-flight entertainment was not working properly, so I was glad to have downloaded movies to my iPad as a backup for the hours in the air.” Your entertainment doesn’t have to involve a screen either. Bring a book or magazine or do crossword puzzles for entertainment. “You should always have something to do on a long-haul flight,” Dengler said. “At times, that may be sleeping, but I recommend always having access to entertainment.”
Overlooking Seat Options
“Be sure to select your seat in advance,” said Ravi Roth, a travel expert and host of “The Gaycation Travel Show.” “You don’t want to end up stuck in a middle seat on a long flight. Most airlines do not charge a seat fee for economy, but if you can splurge I say go for comfort plus or economy plus. Extra legroom is key.” Paying for business class is not feasible for most people, but maybe you’ve saved up enough to compromise with a premium economy ticket. “Select a window seat if you plan on sleeping,” Dengler said. “Pay extra for an exit-row seat if you will be more comfortable with extra legroom. It really comes down to what time the flight is and whether or not you plan to sleep.” Figure out which seat position you prefer before booking a long flight. “Window or aisle ― you really need to decide what is more important to you,” Jacobs said. “You can lean on the window ― or have the freedom of getting up and stretching whenever you feel like it. I prefer the aisle any day.”
Boarding Without A Sleep Game Plan
“It is important to figure out what you will be doing on the flight,” Dengler explained. “Is it a red-eye flight where the goal will be to sleep? Or is it during the day when you will need to stay occupied?” Try to sleep when it’s nighttime at your destination, rather than your origin. And if you’re planning to sleep during the flight, avoid caffeine and try to walk around the airport to tire yourself out before boarding. “Watching movies can make you sleepy, so instead log on to Wi-Fi and work or shop when you need to be awake,” Jacobs suggested. Jet lag is very real, but there are different tactics for making the time change easier to manage, even after a sleepless red-eye. “Do not take a nap once you land at your destination,” Roth said. “Power through so that you sync up your body with the local clock. You will adapt much better to the new time zone.” Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, however. It’s not the end of the world if you can’t quickly adjust. “Don’t force yourself to sleep just because you feel like you should,” said Laura Ratliff, senior editorial director at TripSavvy. “I’m a big fan of an arrival ‘espresso nap’ ― I down a quick espresso, draw the curtains, and force myself to sleep for 25-30 minutes. It helps me get through the day without being bleary-eyed, and I am just tired enough to sleep at night.”
Feel Obliged To Talk The Whole Time
“When traveling with colleagues, you don’t have to sit next to them,” Jacobs said. “A long flight is a long time to make small talk.” Unless you need to do collaborative work during a flight, choose your own seat on a business trip if possible and try to put some space between you and co-workers. You’ll have plenty of time together at the airport and then your destination.
“Plus, no need to have your colleagues see or hear you sleeping,” Jacobs said. “Sit separately ― it’s not rude. They will appreciate it too.”
Relying On Plane Food
Unless you’re sitting in business class, you’re not guaranteed a lot of meal and snack choices, so if you’re particular, it’s best to eat just before the flight or come prepared with your own food. “I always bring my own snacks on long-haul flights, and I have never regretted it,” Dengler said. “Food options can be limited, so this guarantees I will be able to eat what I want and when I want.”
Neglecting Self-Care
Being on a long flight might feel like some sort of alternate reality where time and rules don’t apply, but it’s still important to take care of yourself and your body when you can.
“Get up to walk around and stretch every few hours,” Brogan said. “Your legs will thank you once you arrive!” Don’t forget to stay hydrated and take any vitamins and medications that are part of your daily routine. You’ll feel much better during your trip if you do what you can to take care of yourself during the transit process. “On long flights, I have a little ritual of brushing my teeth, washing my face and applying lotion about an hour before landing,” Ratliff said. “My favorite lotion is Le Labo’s Rose 31 — the fragrance helps boost my mood a little, and now, it’s become such a habit that I associate that smell with getting off the plane and exploring a new place!”
