Investigation Into Deaths At Astroworld Festival
A “needle” wielding assailant suspected of injecting at least one person with a possible opioid may have sparked the panic that killed at least eight people and injured 300 others during a stampede at rapper Travis Scott’s concert in Houston, authorities said Saturday. It happened Friday at NRG Park when a mass of people among the 50,000 concertgoers at the sold-out show “began to compress” to the front of the stage at around 9:15 p.m., sparking mayhem according to Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña. The preliminary investigation found a security guard was jabbed in the neck while he was among the fans packed into the park for the first of two nights at Astroworld, a festival Scott founded in 2018, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said at a Saturday afternoon press conference. Narcan was used to revive some other concertgoers as well, Finner said, but he was unable to say how many. “We do know that there were several, many, instances where they did administer Narcan on site,” he said. “This is now a criminal investigation that is going to involve our homicide division, as well as narcotics,” Finner said during a press conference Saturday afternoon. At least 11 of the 25 people taken to area hospitals were in cardiac arrest, Houston Fire Chief Samuel Pena said. Officials said 13 remained hospitalized late Saturday, including five under the age of 18 and at least one 10-year-old. Officials did not detail their injuries. Others among the dead and injured were trampled as the crowd surged toward the stage, Finner said. Some 300 people were treated at a field hospital set at the stadium during the “mass casualty incident,” authorities said.

Carole Baskin Loses Lawsuit
A Florida judge has denied Carole Baskin’s motion for a temporary restraining order that would block Netflix and Royal Goode Productions from featuring footage of her, husband Howard Baskin and their Big Cat Rescue sanctuary in Season 2 of “Tiger King.” According to court documents, the judge ruled that the Baskins “are not entitled to the extraordinary remedy of a temporary restraining order, which would be entered before Defendants have had an adequate opportunity to respond.” “While the Court understands the Baskins’ frustration, it does not appear that inclusion of Defendants’ footage of the Baskins will cause any immediate harm that cannot be compensated with monetary damages,” the ruling states. On Monday, the couple filed suit in Tampa, Florida, against the streaming giant and the production company. Baskin alleged that Royal Goode Productions continued to use footage of the couple in the upcoming “Tiger King 2” despite only signing release forms for the first documentary.

During an A-list dinner for British Vogue editor Edward Enninful at Cut in Beverly Hills, Wolfgang Puck was overheard suggesting to Cardi B that they swap skills. “He was saying ‘I’ll teach you to cook if you teach me to rap,’” says a source. “He was telling her [that] ‘love goes through the stomach.’ She agreed.” She declares in her hit single, “WAP,” “I don’t cook, I don’t clean/But let me tell you, I got this ring.” However, she’s been trying her hand in the kitchen on her Messenger series “Cardi Tries.” In January, she learned how to roll sushi with Vallerie Archer of Yamashiro in Hollywood. Police Break Up Very Patriotic Fight
A Minnesota police officer was summoned to break up an unusual street fight when two bald eagles were found “stuck together” in the middle of a road. The city of Plymouth said in a Facebook post that Officer Mitch Martinson responded to a neighborhood on “a report of two bald eagles stuck together on a Plymouth roadway.” Martinson said being called to break up a street fight between two eagles was a first for him. “We do have de-escalation tactics, but I’ve never applied them to eagles or other animals,” Martinson told WCCO-TV. The officer consulted with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Raptor Center, which told him the eagles were likely in a dispute over territory. Martinson said he was attempting to cover the birds’ heads to calm them down when they decided to flee the scene. See the video HERE.

Record Straitjacket Escapes
A professional illusionist broke a Guinness World Record at a Georgia theme park when he completed 300 straitjacket escapes in eight hours. Jackson Rayne took to a stage at Wild Adventures Theme Park in Valdosta and performed the feat that broke the record. Rayne was aiming to beat the previous Guinness World Record of 193 escapes, which was set by James Peters in Britain in 2003. Rayne said he began to study magic and escape artistry at age 11, and he received his first straitjacket as a Christmas present when he was 17.

Moose Crashes Through Classroom
A school in Saskatchewan, Canada, experienced an unusual interruption when a moose ran through a large glass window and crashed into a classroom. Witness Jayme Melnyk said she was dropping her 2-year-old son off at his daycare, which is attached to Sylvia Fedoruk School in Saskatoon, when the moose crashed into a classroom just across the hall. The school said a before-school program was just wrapping up in the room at the time of the moose’s Thursday morning entrance, and the students were safely ushered out of the room as the dazed animal slumped to the ground. Saskatoon Public Schools said one child sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention. See the video HERE.

A New York museum’s Toy Hall of Fame announced the 2021 inductees are American Girl Dolls, board game Risk and sand. The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester said the inductees were chosen from a field of 12 finalists that also included Battleship, billiards, Cabbage Patch Kids, the Fisher-Price Corn Popper, Mahjong, Masters of the Universe, the pinata, the Settlers of Catan and the toy fire engine. American Girl Dolls, created by educator Pleasant Rowland in 1986; Risk, which is based on the French game Le Conquete du Monde and was first published in the United States in 1959; and sand, the substance found at beaches around the world, were inducted during a special ceremony at the museum. “Although some playthings can only be found online or in certain stores, sand has a global reach that most toy manufacturers would envy. It’s been a vehicle for play since prehistory, and anyone who has spent the day at the beach can understand the allure of this toy,” The Strong Chief Curator Christopher Bensch said in the announcement.
