Tom Cruise To Film In Space

Tom Cruise and “The Bourne Identity” director Doug Liman have reached out to Universal Filmed Entertainment Group Chairman Donna Langley for a movie that will be out of this world.  The movie pitch included Cruise taking a rocket up to the International Space Station.  “I think Tom Cruise is taking us to space, he’s taking the world to space,” Langely said, according to BBC News.  “That’s the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom … taking a rocket up to the Space Station and shooting.”  However, the majority of the film will “take place on earth, and then the character needs to go up to space to save the day,” Langely said, according to BBC News.   Langely added she hopes Cruise will be “the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station.”  Cruise and Liman brought this idea to Langley through a Zoom call during the pandemic.

Right Said Fred Goes After Beyonce

Beyoncé is hitting back at Right Said Fred, calling the song allegations “erroneous and incredibly disparaging.”  During the 2022 Broad Music Inc Awards in London, Fred and Richard Fairbrass, leading members of the band “Right Said Fred,” called Beyonce arrogant for using their song “I’m Too Sexy” in her recent Renaissance track “Alien Superstar.”  “Normally the artist approaches us but Beyoncé didn’t because she is such an arrogant person,” the pair told the Sun. “She just had probably thought ‘come and get me’, so we heard about it after the fact, when you did.”  “To use our melody they need our permission so they send us the demo and we approve it and if so we get a co-write credit,” they added. “With this Beyoncé thing there are 22 writers, it’s ridiculous, so we would get about 40 [pence]. The reason that is happening we think is because there is so little money now in the actual sales, people like friends, golfing partners, engineers, bookers and the guy who brings the coke, they all want a cut.”  Beyoncé on Thursday responded to the allegations, claiming the brothers gave permission for her to use elements of the song.  “Permission was not only granted for its use, but they publicly spoke of their gratitude for being on the album,” Beyoncé said in a statement to E News. “For their song, there was no sound recording use, only the composition was utilized. Permission was asked of their publisher on May 11, 2022 and the publisher approved the use on June 15, 2022. They were paid for the usage in August, 2022.”
*******Yeah, but they blew all that money on fish and chips!!!
*****Sounds like the “Freds” need to talk to their publisher!!!
********Jay Z called her and said, “You want me to have ’em killed??”

Chris Pratt Criticized For Mario Voice

Voice actor Tara Strong has criticized Chris Pratt’s casting as Mario in the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie.  Strong, whose previous work includes the voices of Harley Quinn, Batgirl, Timmy Turner from Fairy Odd Parents and My Little Pony’s Twilight Sparkle, has taken to Twitter to share a photo with Charles Martinet alongside the caption “It should be Charles”.  Martinet has voiced Mario in a variety of games for the past 20 years, as well as voicing Wario, Luigi, Waluigi, Baby Luigi and Baby Mario across the franchise.  Strong followed it up by writing: “Voice actors: I’m gonna put my heart & soul in this for at least 20 years, help sell billions in merch, make the studios millions of dollars & make generations around the world happy.  Hollywood: We don’t care.”  Martinet responded by saying, “thank you everybody! Your love and kindness mean more than you could ever know, and genuinely touched my heart. My little eyes seem to be leaking today with tender affection.”  According to the original announcement, Martinet will appear in the film in a cameo role.  The first trailer was revealed earlier this week, with fans taking to social media to criticize Pratt’s work.  The Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled to be released in cinemas on April 7, 2023.
********The only problem with Chris’s performance?? IT SOUNDS LIKE CHRIS!! No accent at all!!

King Charles To Slim Down Coronation

King Charles’ coronation is reportedly going to be a much more low-key affair than the one his mother had.  When the Queen was crowned in 1954, the occasion’s fanfare was immense. More than 8,000 guests were invited to attend the royal event at Westminster Abbey and 129 nations were officially represented at the Coronation service, according to the official royal website.  During traditional parts of the ceremony, the Queen was presented with several golden objects, including spurs, bracelets, and a robe. However, things are likely to look different now that Charles is king.  The Mail On Sunday reports Charles’ coronation is being planned in line with his reported desire to “slim down” the monarchy. This includes stripping back much of the pomp and fanfare coronations in British history have previously seen to reflect modern times, the outlet reports palace insiders have said. Changes that are reported to be part of the plan include a dramatically smaller guest list and a more casual dress code. Instead of the 8,000-plus attendees, Charles’ coronation is expected to see just over 2,000, the publication reported.
*******He’ll drive by Westminster in a Mini Cooper convertible, and the Archbishop will run out and throw the crown at his head!! If it lands and stays, he gets a prize!!!
*****We’re just thinking: whatever Charles does, it’s probably not the right thing to do!!
****Of course, he’ll probably only be king for a couple of years, so why waste the money??
********He’s trimming the guest list so he has an excuse not to invite Meghan and Harry!!

Mystery Smell In Utah

Officials in a Utah city are investigating the cause of a foul odor reported by residents — and it doesn’t appear to be coming from the sewer.  Residents of North Salt Lake City said they noticed the odor Thursday morning and multiple locals compared the smell to rotting meat.  South Davis Sewer District General Manager Matt Myers said the district received about 50 reports of a foul odor Thursday, but officials do not believe the smell was coming from the sewers.  Sherrie Pace, North Salt Lake City community development director, said the odor reached City Hall, and police and building inspectors reported detecting the stench all around the city.  “I have been out, driven around about two hours trying to locate it,” Pace told KSL-TV on Thursday. “There are pockets of the smell throughout the city and also outside of the city.”

Man Smuggles Pythons In His Pants

A New York City man has been charged with smuggling three Burmese pythons in his pants at a U.S-Canadian border crossing.  Calvin Bautista, 36, is accused of bringing the hidden snakes on a bus that crossed into northern New York on July 15, 2018. Importation of Burmese pythons is regulated by an international treaty and by federal regulations listing them as “injurious to human beings.”  Bautista, of Queens, was arraigned Tuesday in Albany on the federal smuggling charge and released pending trial, according to a news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman.  The charge carries the potential for a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine as high as $250,000, according to federal prosecutors.

Florida Men Arrested For Stealing Cooking Oil

Two Florida men were arrested in Flagler County after a deputy sheriff caught the duo stealing used cooking oil from a local restaurant.   Rui Gen Lin and Rong Chen were arrested Thursday morning for stealing $5,000 worth of cooking oil from Woody’s Bar-B-Que in Palm Coast, deputies said.  A deputy sheriff was on patrol and performing a business check on Woody’s around 3:15 a.m. and saw Lin and Chen wearing headlamps as they pumped used cooking oil out of a vat kept in a fenced-in area in the back of the restaurant.   The duo was pumping the cooking oil into a white box truck which had large storage containers inside for the oil along with a pump, bolt cutters, and a pry bar.

8 Dating App Profile Mistakes You Should Avoid At All Costs

HUFFINGTON POST

Mistake No. 1: Not including enough information in your profile.

On dating apps, there’s no denying your pictures are an important part of the equation — they’re the first thing potential matches see. But that doesn’t mean you can just neglect the rest of your profile. The written stuff matters more than you might think.  “Keeping a fun, creative or insightful bio on your profile is a great way to display your personality,” dating expert Maria Sullivan, vice president of Dating.com, told HuffPost. “Bios and responses to prompts should be well thought-out and original to grab the attention of potential matches.”  Your profile should contain fun details or interesting tidbits that potential matches can use to strike up a good conversation with you.

“Give the other person something to message you about,” dating and relationship coach Meg Rector told HuffPost. “‘Message me if you want to learn (fill in the blank with a hobby or skill you’d love to share)’ or ‘Ask me about the time I (fill in the blank with a good story).’”

Once your profile is complete, don’t just set it and forget it, said dating expert and matchmaker Jasmine Diaz of the Diaz Dating Group. Continue to tweak it from time to time as you have new experiences, change and grow.  “Include your hobbies, goals, and witty sense of humor,” Diaz said. “A great profile is the secret to great dates.”

Mistake No. 2: Being too negative.

Your profile is a snapshot of you, an opportunity to share the things you love and what makes you you. It shouldn’t be a place to rattle off all of the things you dislike or do not want in a partner. Phrases like, ”‘Don’t contact me if you don’t like pets,’ ‘If you like Trump, don’t even bother,’ and ‘If you don’t have a job, it’s a no,’” give off negative energy, Diaz said.

“Instead of wasting your precious characters on everything you don’t want, describe what you do want,” she said. “To find a compatible match, you must articulate what you value, but those values cannot align if they are not stated.”  OkCupid dating coach Damona Hoffman echoed a similar point, noting that profiles with the “don’t message me if” phrasing tend to get fewer matches.

“Keep it positive and inviting,” said Hoffman, host of the “Dates and Mates” podcast. “You can sort the messages in the DMs or swipe left if you aren’t into what they have to offer.”

Mistake No. 3: Including details that are inaccurate or misleading.

Naturally, you want to make your profile attractive to others — but it can’t be at the expense of honesty. The most important thing you can do with your profile is be genuine, Sullivan said. And keep in mind: A potential partner is bound to catch you in the lie eventually.  “Including inaccurate but more appealing height, age, location or occupation might seem like a way to better attract potential matches but could end up leaving you at a disadvantage when the truth comes out,” Sullivan said. “My advice is to keep your responses truthful, as you don’t want to create a false sense of who you are or struggle to perpetuate a lie.”

Mistake No. 4: Using old or misleading photos.

Again, the desire to put your best foot forward is understandable. Just be sure the pictures you’re choosing are an accurate reflection of who you are today — not the person you were 10 years ago.

“Be sure to include a close-up of your face, a full body shot, a picture of you doing something you love, and a photo of you with friends or family,” Rector said. “Pictures are an important part of a dating profile, so let the pictures tell the story of who you are and what you love.”

Mistake No. 5: Having too many group shots — and not enough solo shots.

When you post too many big group pictures, potential matches have to do the work of figuring out which person is you. A couple group shots are fine, but they shouldn’t make up the bulk of your photos.

“Group photos can leave matches searching faces to figure out whose profile they’re looking at, potentially leading to confusion and frustration and leading them to give up on your profile and to look and see who’s next,” Sullivan said.

As Hoffman said, you should be the star of your own profile — not your bestie, your pet or your favorite relative.  “Make sure it’s clear who you are and get your match’s eye to focus on you and not your cute friend, your dog or your granny’s smile,” she said.

Mistake No. 6: Choosing unflattering photos.

People are surprisingly bad at identifying good photos of themselves, Anderson said.

Among the 1,000+ clients she’s worked with, she found there isn’t a whole lot of overlap between the photos people think are good and the ones that are “objectively good from a ‘other users will swipe right on this’ perspective,” she said.  “To avoid accidentally littering your profile with unflattering photos, seek out a trustworthy friend — or a pro! — for feedback, and give their suggestions a shot,” Anderson said.

Online dating coach Joshua Pompey of Next Evolution Matchmaking cited another common mistake among the clients he works with: Not paying attention to what’s in the background of their photos. Avoid shots that show your messy room and those mirror selfies you took in the bathroom. And don’t forget to crop out any odd or distracting items that make an appearance.

“Many times, the background of your photo will reveal just as much about you as what you look like, so always be conscious of this,” he said.

Mistake No. 7: “Telling” rather than “showing.”

Remember when your middle school writing teacher taught you “show don’t tell?” The same principle applies to your dating app profile. For example, it’s better to show that you’re funny — by sharing an amusing story or detail — than it is to tell matches you’re funny by stating it in your profile, Anderson said.

“Stating that you’re funny may be true, but it’s abstract, which makes it hard to grasp,” Anderson said. “Sharing the story that makes people laugh — aka ‘showing’ — is tangible, and therefore more intriguing and inspiring.”  To make your profile more show-y and less tell-y, look over what you’ve written with an editor’s eye.  “Take a critical eye to your written bio and prompts, and replace generalizations or abstract claims with stories and granular details,” she said. “For example, don’t just ‘tell’ that you love to cook — show it by sharing details about your favorite dish to prepare.”

Mistake No. 8: Taking your profile’s performance too personally.

When you’re not getting the matches you want, “it’s easy to attribute your lack of success to factors outside of your control — ‘I’m not attractive enough’ or ‘people like me can’t get matches’ — and give up on dating apps,” Anderson said.

But in her experience, creating a strong profile is pretty formulaic. And there’s a good chance that the root problem has more to do with what you’re including — or not including — in your profile, than anything about who you are as a person.  Try to adopt a growth mindset with this process, Anderson suggested. Instead of throwing in the towel when things aren’t going as well as you’d hoped, use it as an opportunity to experiment with your profile. What can you tweak that will better capture who you are in an engaging way?  “You may be surprised by how dramatically your results can improve by changing out a single photo or line of text,” Anderson said.
