Alec Baldwin Update

An assistant director on the film Rust said that the gun that killed a cinematographer and injured a director on the New Mexico set was unloaded before he handed it to actor Alec Baldwin, a police affidavit indicates.  The court document, filed by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, said the assistant director, David Halls, took the prop gun, a pistol, from a gray cart and gave it to Baldwin. He shouted out “cold gun” as he did so, indicating the pistol didn’t contain any live rounds.  The gun handed to Baldwin was one of three prop guns on the cart, which was prepared by armorer Hannah Gutierrez. Baldwin, Gutierrez and Halls each told police they weren’t aware the gun contained any live rounds.  When Baldwin fired the gun Thursday on set, it fatally shot director of photography Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. The latter received treatment at a local hospital before being released Thursday.  The affidavit sought a search warrant for the movie set, which a state magistrate judge granted Friday. A representative for the sheriff’s office said Baldwin has cooperated with the investigation and no charges have been filed.  A local chapter of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, a union that represents propmasters, said in an email Friday that the prop gun contained a real bullet. The sheriff’s office, though, said it couldn’t confirm what the gun was loaded with.  Baldwin issued a statement Friday offering condolences for Hutchins’ death.  “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours,” he wrote.

Vin Diesel Walks Paul Walker’s Daughter Down Aisle

Vin Diesel escorted model Meadow Walker down the aisle at her wedding to Louis Thornton-Allan.  Meadow Walker is the 22-year-old daughter of Diesel’s Fast and the Furious co-star Paul Walker, who died in a car crash in 2013 at the age of 40.  On Friday, Meadow Walker shared photos on Instagram from her beach-side wedding.  One shows Diesel, her godfather, wearing a light blue suit, white shirt, open at the collar, and sunglasses as he walked her down the aisle.  Another image showed her and Thornton-Allen happily walking back up together after exchanging their vows as the guests, including Fast and Furious alum Jordana Brewster, cheered them on.  People.com said the ceremony took place in the Dominican Republic earlier this month.  See the pic HERE.

Elm Street House For Sale

The Los Angeles home from the 1984 movie A Nightmare on Elm Street has been listed for sale in time for Halloween with an asking price of $3.5 million.  The three-bedroom Spaulding Square house, listed by realty agency Douglas Elliman, was purchased previously for $2.1 million in 2013 by Hustlers director Lorene Scafaria.  The two-story house served as protagonist Nancy Thompson’s home in Wes Craven’s classic slasher film, and was the location of the character’s final showdown with iconic serial killer Freddy Krueger.  “It’s so much fun bringing this house to market during a historic real estate inventory shortage,” listing agent Learka Bosnak told MarketWatch.  “Buyers are worn out. They’ve been looking for a great house, one with enough bedrooms and en suite bathrooms and space to work from home. And here it is, and it’s beautiful, and it’s ready to buy, and it has this incredibly fun movie history.”  The house’s appeal lies in more than its cinematic history, said Bosnak’s listing agent partner, Heather T. Roy.

Tarek El Moussa Remarried

EL MOUSSA!!!” she captioned the photos. “I married the love of my life today. My sweet man, my everything. Cheers to forever and then some.”  They began dating in July of 2019 and announced their engagement just days after celebrating their 1-year anniversary of dating.   In the weeks before their wedding, Young celebrated with a traditional bridal shower. After the celebration, El Moussa shared a sweet snap of himself planting a kiss on his beloved’s cheek.  “Soulmate kind of love,” he wrote in the caption. “Met up with @heatherraeyoung after her bridal shower and I swear I would’ve married her right then and there. Ready to #flipherlastname – good thing it’s right around the corner.”  They announced on Oct. 16 that they’d obtained their marriage license and on the following day, made note that it was their “wedding week.”  El Moussa was previously married to Christina Haack, with whom he shares two sons: Taylor and Brayden.

Bosom Buddies Star Dies

Peter Scolari, who famously starred in the sitcom “Bosom Buddies” alongside Tom Hanks, has died. He was 66.  It was confirmed by his manager, Ellen Lubin Sanitsky, to Fox News on Friday. The cause of death was cancer after a two-year battle.  “He was a wonderful, wonderful, extraordinary actor,” she said. “It’s heartbreaking.”  He led a 43-year career in show business. It featured his Emmy-nominated regular role of producer Michael Harris on Bob Newhart’s 1984 comedy “Newhart,” his Emmy-winning recurring role as the father of Lena Dunham’s character on HBO’s “Girls,” and, most recently, his role as Bishop Thomas Marx on the CBS supernatural drama “Evil,” Deadline.com reported.  Scolari, who made his mark on both television and the stage, found fame in the popular, but short-lived, 1980 comedy “Bosom Buddies” alongside Hanks.

Harrison Ford Reunited With Lost Credit Card

Harrison Ford lost a credit card during a break in filming “Indiana Jones 5” in Italy, but got it back thanks to a German tourist, police in Sicily said.  The tourist stumbled across the credit card with the 79-year-old star’s name on it Thursday, and turned it into the police station in the beach town of Mondello near Palermo, Sicily.  Police then tracked down Ford and returned the card.  Ford was photographed in a T-shirt and what appears to be swimsuit trunks, holding up the credit card and smiling with several officers in images shared by local media.  He is currently filming the latest installment in the “Indiana Jones” franchise, which will feature Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Toby Jones and Antonio Banderas.

STUPID NEWS

Pablo Escobar Hippos Are Recognized

A group of about 100 hippos, who are descendants of hippos that were owned by late drug lord Pablo Escobar, have been recognized as legal persons in the U.S.  This marks the first time ever that non-human creatures have been legally considered people.  The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio recognized the hippos as legal persons recently, an important step in trying to save the animals as authorities in Colombia have discussed killing them since 2009.  Escobar illegally imported animals at his ranch in Colombia until his death in 1993. The animals were sent to other zoos with the exception of four hippos too difficult to move. The four have now multiplied over the years with authorities referring to them as an invasive species. Colombian attorney Luis Domingo Gómez Maldonado filed a lawsuit on the animals’ behalf in July to save them from being killed, stating that sterilization would be a better option.  Non-human animals in Colombia have the right to bring lawsuits to protect their interests. Interested parties in the country are allowed to go to a federal court in the U.S. to obtain documents or testimony.  The Animal Defense League applied on behalf of the hippos and to compel two Ohio wildlife experts who study nonsurgical sterilization to provide testimony.

The North Carolina Education Lottery said 10,726 tickets became winners when the Carolina Pick 3 drawing came up with the numbers 5-5-5.  Lottery officials said Tuesday evening’s drawing had the triple 5 result, earning $250 for players who could show 50-cent tickets and $500 for players who purchased $1 tickets.  The lottery said players collectively won about $4.3 million in prize money from the drawing.  Officials said triple numbers, known as “trips,” are some of the most common combinations purchased for Carolina Pick 3 drawings.

Only In Florida

A Florida man faces a $50 daily fine for displaying a banner outside his home proclaiming “Trump Won.”  Walton County, Florida, will charge part-time resident Marvin Peavy $50 a day starting today if he doesn’t remove the “Trump Won” banner from outside of his home.  Peavy said he plans to also put up a banner that says “Let’s Go Brandon,” a phrase that conservatives have conflated with “F*ck Joe Biden.”  County officials said Peavy’s banner violates signage regulations for the 30A scenic corridor, where Peavy’s home resides. The corridor is part of a beachside route known for its natural beauty. The county’s legal code says that political signs must be removed 15 days after the end of a political campaign. However, county officials say Peavy’s banner actually violates another part of the code forbidding homes from displaying “(s)treamers, feather flags, pennants, ribbons, spinners and other similar devices” that might detract from the corridor’s scenic beauty.  Peavy said he has no intention of removing his banner, the Northwest Florida Daily News reported. He said that he can easily pay the fine and added that others have also offered to pay the fine on his behalf.  However, his attorney reportedly told Walton County Code Enforcement Officer Charles Cronin that Peavy was aware of the violation and would remove the banner soon, Cronin said.

A LIST FOR MONDAY

Signs You’re Experiencing Ongoing Trauma From The Pandemic

Huffington Post

You’re super on edge

One very pronounced symptom of trauma is hypervigilance. After a traumatic event occurs, people with PTSD tend to have trouble feeling grounded or centered in various situations or relationships. King said experiencing or witnessing trauma can put us in an activated state where we’re constantly scanning for the next threat.  Because all of our energy gets focused on survival, hypervigilance can lead to difficulty concentrating and focusing. For many people, this symptom manifests as big emotional responses to small issues or stressors.

“You’re on edge all the time. Little things frighten you, you react very irrationally to things that are very, very tiny,” said Tamar Rodney, an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing who specializes in trauma and psychiatry.  Another good example of hypervigilance: feeling extremely anxious and sensitive to coughs and sneezes around you.

You’re fatigued

Emotional exhaustion and physical exhaustion are not traditional post-traumatic stress responses, but in the context of this pandemic — where the traumatic stressors are ongoing — a lot of people are feeling especially fatigued.  When our bodies go into flight-or-fight mode, as they do during traumatic experiences, we exert a lot of energy. Throw in the fact that our stress systems have been chronically activated with stressor after stressor, and it’s only natural that we’re going to feel physically and mentally depleted. Trauma can be draining.  “It’s very much related to living in and being kind of incubated in this collective trauma and collective stress that’s going on,” King said.

You’ve been particularly negative

Trauma often leads to intrusive, negative thinking. In the wake of trauma, people can find it difficult to look into the future and feel positive about where they and the world might be headed, King said.

Some people develop a negative perception of themselves and their self-esteem may take a hit. “Everything becomes very negative in the way they operate,” Rodney said.

You have more physical aches and pains

Traumatic stress, especially when it’s ongoing and chronic, can affect our physical health. Over time, stress and trauma can result in decreased immune functioning along with increased tension and pain throughout the body.  That physical pain comes out in many different ways — some people develop migraines and headaches, while others experience digestive issues, increased blood pressure, back pain or joint pain.

You haven’t been sleeping well

Traumatic stress can lead to all sorts of sleep disturbances, including insomnia, issues falling and staying asleep, stress dreams and nightmares. Estimates suggest that up to 91% of people with PTSD have issues with sleep.

Sleep issues are often overlooked, but they impact everything we do, Rodney said. Sleep resets the mind and body, and a lack of sleep can really disrupt our quality of life and daily functioning.

You’ve been withdrawn

Avoidance, or being purposefully detached from others, is another common effect of being exposed to trauma. With COVID specifically, many people are having trouble reengaging with activities, places and people they once enjoyed.

There’s a difference between physically distancing to lower your chances of being exposed to COVID and being held back by fear and deciding to avoid any opportunity to be social. There are still ways to connect with others in the context of COVID.

Rodney said withdrawing becomes “problematic” when “you’re not able to do the functional things that would make life meaningful for you anymore.”

How to manage these symptoms

The first step is recognizing when these symptoms become a problem. With all of these symptoms, there is an appropriate level and a point at which they hurt our ability to function. If any of these symptoms are significantly impacting your life, it’s time to seek out professional help.

“There is no shame in experiencing these feelings,” Rodney said.  It’s also important to develop healthy coping mechanisms. Reengage yourself socially with people. Exercise regularly. Be patient and listen to your body. Symptoms can appear at any time, sometimes months or years after the traumatic event, and there is no set path or time frame for recovery. Let yourself heal and process your emotions at your own pace.  Remember that you aren’t alone and that so many others are experiencing physical and emotional symptoms as a result of all the pandemic trauma.

“Our responses are normal,” King said. “It’s the circumstances that are abnormal.”
