Pat Sajak May Leave Wheel Of Fortune

Pat Sajak may be stepping down as the host of “Wheel of Fortune.”  The host of more than 40 years said the “end is near,” as he hinted he’s ready for one last spin, according to “Entertainment Tonight.”  “Years go by fast. We’re getting near the end. It’s been a long No time format has been specified. We’re not going to do this for another 40 years. The end is near,” the TV icon indicated.  “It’s an honor to have been in people’s living rooms for that long. People were out there welcoming us. We’re happy and proud.”  “Wheel of Fortune” premiered on television in 1975, and Sajak started hosting it in 1981. Co-host Vanna White joined Sajak in 1982.  Sajak and White have both renewed their contracts with the show through the 2023-24 season.  “In most television shows by this time, you would have said, ‘That’s probably enough,’ but this show will not die,” Sajak remarked.  “It appears I may go before the show,” he joked.

David Beckham Honors The Queen

Soccer legend David Beckham joined a massive line of people waiting to pay respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II and view her coffin on Friday.   While onlookers stood in the hours-long line, it did not take long until bystanders noticed him, who was dressed in a dark coat and baker boy cap.  “I thought by coming at 2 a.m. it was going to be a little bit quieter. I was wrong,” Beckham told BBC. “Everybody had that in mind.”  Beckham also shared that everyone in line was there to “experience and celebrate what Her Majesty has done for us.”  “So this day was always going to be difficult, and it’s difficult for the nation, it’s difficult for everyone around the world, because I think everyone is feeling it, and our thoughts are with the family and obviously with everybody here today,” the form continued. “The most special moment for me was to receive my OBE. I took my grandparents with me, who were the ones that really brought me up to be a huge royalist and a fan of the royal family, and obviously I had my wife there as well.” According to one Twitter user, the star had been waiting for more than 10 hours.  “My best friend’s Mum has been directly in front of him the whole time and he’s been queuing so far for 10 hours just like her!” the person wrote on Twitter.

Martha Stewart On Pete Davidson

Martha Stewart opened up about comedian Pete Davidson, the son she “never had.”  During a recent interview, the lifestyle guru said Davidson is busy with several film productions and may stop to chat with Stewart for her podcast in the near future.  “He’s doing two movies at the present time,” she said while promoting her Green Mountain Coffee Roasters partnership to “E! News.” “And he’s agreed to do my podcast, supposedly.”  Although Stewart and Davidson haven’t locked in a date for the podcast, she noted that he’s enjoying his time post-Kim Kardashian split.  “He’s having the time of his life,” she claimed. “This guy is a talented actor [and] comedian, and who is a bon vivant at the same time. He’s fun.”  Stewart’s comments come on the heels of her shutting down rumors in August that she was dating him, following his shocking split with reality television star Kim Kardashian.

Another Karate Kid In The Works

The success and love Cobra Kai has found with viewers has now led to an exciting announcement for all Cobra Kai fans – a new Karate Kid movie is in the works.  The movie has been officially announced by Sony Columbia Pictures and has a release date set for June 7, 2024. However, that’s as far as it goes when it comes to information about the new Karate Kid movie as of yet. No stars, directors or writers have been announced and there are no plot details at this time of writing. The only thing we know is that it is a return to the original Karate Kid franchise.   So far, there have been five Karate Kid movies, with the first released in 1984 with Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi. This was followed by 1986’s The Karate Kid Part II and 1989’s The Karate Kid Part III. A fourth movie in the series, The New Karate Kid, was released in 1994. Then, in 2010, a remake of the first movie was made with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan in the lead roles. Cobra Kai started out as a YouTube Red original series in 2018 before switching to YouTube Premium in 2019 and, finally, making the jump to streaming service Netflix for its third season in 2021. It has remained with Netflix ever since and is one of their most-watched shows.

Production Stalled On New Ted Lasso Season

Fans of the hit Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso will have to wait a bit longer to see Jason Sudeikis return as the humble American college football coach turned pro soccer coach.  At the 2022 Emmys last week, Jason Sudeikis told the audience during an acceptance speech that “We’ll see you for Season 3, at some point.” If you’re wondering why Sudeikis was being so cryptic about the show’s return, Matt Belloni’s recent report for Puck contains a ton of juicy details about why production on Season 3 of the Emmy-winning sitcom has been significantly delayed.  The forthcoming 12-episode season was supposed to begin filming in September 2021 but was delayed until March 2022, due to star Jason Sudeikis deciding that the show’s scripts “needed a significant rewrite,” according to Belloni’s VERY detailed reporting. Certain location shoots, including a sequence at the Chelsea Football Club stadium, were complicated following the club’s Russian owner being forced to sell the team over the invasion of Ukraine. Additionally, the show now requires more post-production time to digitally render the stadiums, which prolongs the editing process. It is also approximately 20 to 30 percent over budget for the third season.

How Elton Saved Britney-(Star)

Six years since her last album and nine months after being freed from a 13-year conservatorship, Britney Spears is ready for a reboot.  Enter Elton John, who tapped her for a duet on the mashup of 1971’s “Tiny Dancer” and 1992’s “The One.”  “Everyone was saying they don’t think she can sing anymore,” the 75-year-old recently said.  “But I said, she was brilliant when she started, so I think she can.”  It’s more than the song.  The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer has been a real guardian angel to the 40-year-old, insider say.  “He’s told Britney she can call him day or night,” says a source.  “He’s happy to open any doors he can to help back on her feet.”  Sir Elton has said it’s simply a matter of paying it forward.  “Britney was broken,” he mused.  “I’ve been through that broken feeling and it’s horrible…..I don’t want to see any artists in a dark place.”

Unpatriotic Raccoon!

A county official in New York said his home has repeatedly been invaded by raccoons — and one of the “unpatriotic” animals pooped on a flag.  Sam Fein, an Albany County legislator representing the 6th district, said raccoons have invaded his home in the South End of Albany on three occasions in recent weeks.  Fein said the first incident was when he left a back door ajar for his cat, the second was when he was having a cat door installed and the third involved the raccoons chewing through a screen to gain access.  The legislator said the most recent incident happened while he was visiting Lake George for the weekend and got a call from his neighbors about mysterious noises coming from his apartment.  “I have an indoor camera so I logged in on to my camera and I saw I have a raccoon in my house,” Fein told WNYT/WHEC.  He said the repeat visitors have stolen food, rummaged through his belongings and left behind some unsavory messes.

Missing Cat Returns… Rings Doorbell

A New York family’s security camera was recording when their cat, missing for four days, returned home and rang the doorbell to be let inside.  Stefanie Whitley said her family’s 8-year-old cat, Lily failed to come home one night about two weeks after the family moved into a new house in Mastic Beach, Long Island.  “Normally she comes home, but this time felt different and I didn’t think that Lily was coming home,” Whitley told WPIX-TV.  Whitley’s fears were put to rest four days later when her Ring doorbell camera recorded Lily walking up onto the front porch and ringing the bell.  “We all gasped. We were laughing. We were emotional. We were crying. It was a great moment,” Whitley said.    See the video HERE.

Google Make HUGE Deposit

A Google spokesperson said a nearly $250,000 payment placed in the account of a confused cybersecurity professional was the “result of human error.”  Sam Curry, a staff security engineer at Yuga Labs and a self-described “hacker,” said on Twitter that Google sent $249,999 into his bank account without explanation and he was unable to get a response from the company after three weeks of contact attempts.  Curry said he sometimes conducts bug hunting projects for tech companies like Google, but he couldn’t find any link between any recent projects and the mysterious payment.  A Google spokesperson confirmed the payment was an error and said the company is now taking steps to correct it. “Our team recently made a payment to the wrong party as the result of human error,” the representative told NPR. “We appreciate that it was quickly communicated to us by the impacted partner, and we are working to correct it.”

Snail Trail

German customs officials say a trail of slime led them to a stash of almost 100 giant African land snails and other items hidden inside bags at Duesseldorf Airport this month.  In a statement Friday, authorities said officials stumbled over one of the snails on a baggage truck and initially thought it was a toy until it started moving. By following the trail left by the 20-centimeter (8-inch) snail, they found a bag with a hole, with another snail already peeping out of it — possibly preparing a dash for freedom.  In total, officials found six bags containing 93 giant snails, 28 kilograms (62 pounds) of fish and smoked meat, and a suitcase full of rotting meat. All had been imported from Nigeria and were destined for an African goods store in western Germany.  The snails were handed to an animal rescue service in Duesseldorf and the meat was destroyed, customs officials said.

Ways to Watch Live NFL Games After You’ve Ditched Cable

1. NFL Network

The NFL’s streaming service — NFL Network — which is available at no cost via Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, the NFL App via iOS and Android devices and through an XBox One or Playstation game console. The NFL Network shows one game at a time, then offers repeats of games from the previous week.

 

2. NFL Game Pass

NFL Game Pass offers live in-market games and replays of all NFL games. The games can be watched in full or in specially crafted 40- to 45-minute versions edited to include only the snaps from scrimmage, removing all the other action in between plays.

Game Pass also includes live audio versions of every game and allows you to pick which radio broadcast you listen to — the national, home or road broadcast teams. This means that a San Francisco 49er fan living in Florida can hear the game called by local commentator Greg Papa rather than national announcer Chris Collingsworth.

The full season subscription to NFL Game Pass is currently $79.99, but there are also quarterly season subscriptions. NFL Game Pass is available through PCs, Macs, XBox, PS4 and PS5, Apple TV, Smart TV, Fire TV and Android TV.

 

3. NFL Sunday Ticket

The NFL Sunday ticket package offers out-of market broadcasts  — games involving teams other than those from your area — of NFL regular season games.

It carries all regional Sunday afternoon games broadcasted by CBS and Fox. NFL Sunday Ticket is carried by DirecTV, but it can be accessed without signing up for DirecTV satellite service in areas where DirecTV isn’t available. The package costs $293 a season.

You can watch four games at a time on Channel 701 with 4-Game Mix or eight games at a time on Channel 702 with 8-Game Mix at no extra cost. If you’re not a DirecTV customer, stay tuned — as the NFL will announce a new partner this fall to stream all of its 2023 games.

The NFL Sunday Ticket includes the NFL Red Zone, which shows only scoring plays (or situations in which a team is within the 20-yard line, the “Red Zone”) as they happen. It also just announced the NFL Fantasy Zone, which focuses on fantasy football performance statistics.

 

Other Ways to Watch Live NFL Games

The broadcast networks (CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox, ESPN) are limited in the games they present. You may want to watch more than one or two games a day. You may also be among the millions of former cable customers who have cut the cord and depend entirely on streaming services for your telecast viewing.

Streaming services make the most sense if you have cut the cable cord. Thousands of Americans have ditched cable but those who stay steadfast point to their desire to watch live sports. But streaming services allow them to watch all sorts of live sports and also other live programming.

4. Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video offers only those Thursday night games which are not solely shown by NFL Network. Therefore, there is no extra subscription fee to access those games beyond what you pay for Amazon Prime ($14.99 a month, $139 a year).

If you have Amazon Prime, you already have access to those games. If you don’t, you can subscribe to just Amazon Prime Video for $8.99 a month.

 

5. FuboTV

FuboTV ($69.99 and up a month) offers all regionally broadcasted games plus access to NFL Red Zone. The big plus here is that the streaming service also provides access to the NFL Network. FuboTV boasts 100-plus channels of live sports including MLB, NHL, NBA and domestic and international professional soccer.

 

6. Hulu + Live TV

The subscription fee of $69.99 for Hulu + Live TV gets you all of the broadcast games your cable service previously provided, and offers you access to the NFL Network and NFL Red Zone.

 

7. Paramount Plus

A product of CBS, Paramount Plus offers only those games that are broadcast on CBS, which are games when the home team is an AFC team. It’s cost is relatively minimal, $5 per month with commercials and $10 per month without.

 

8. Sling TV

There are three levels of Sling TV, and each provides a different level of NFL coverage. Sling Orange offers ESPN. Sling Blue has the NFL Network, plus Fox and NBC broadcasts. Each of those services cost $35 per month.

You can get Sling Orange and Blue combined for $50 per month. Sling also offers the NFL Red Zone for an additional fee and an antenna for adding local broadcast games you cannot otherwise receive without cable service.

 

9. YouTube TV

For $65 a month on YouTube TV, you get all the broadcast TV games, plus access to the NFL Network. For an additional $11 you get NFL Red Zone. You’re inching up to monthly cable rates but this is a good option if you want the service’s 85 stations including CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox and PBS without having to deal with a cable company.

 

10. Digital Media Players

For those who still have cable TV accounts with broadcast (over the air) TV channels, you can watch NFL games on CBS (Sundays with an AFC home team), Fox (Sundays with an NFC home team), NBC (Sunday night) and ESPN (Monday nights).

In those cases, you are dependent upon the network to choose the teams and games you watch, and you may not have a rooting interest in those games.

You can also watch games on these channels using an HDTV antenna or devices like a Roku or Amazon Fire Stick. These items connect to your TV and provide broadcast channels.

Those broadcast games are also available via the network streaming services.
