Kanye West is ready to work his connections on behalf of Taylor Swift. In his recent efforts to stick it to the music biz, West is willing to help his former adversary “get her masters back” from industry foe, Scooter Braun. “I’M GOING TO PERSONALLY SEE TO IT THAT TAYLOR SWIFT GETS HER MASTERS BACK,” West tweeted Friday afternoon. “SCOOTER IS A CLOSE FAMILY FRIEND.” Braun — who was fired by West in 2018 — acquired Big Machine Label Group last summer, and with it, the master recordings of the Swift’s first six albums. Jane Fonda says she once came face-to-face with Kim Kardashian and her “amazing behind.” She recalled a run-in with Kardashian during Thursday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live. Fonda shared the story while playing a game of “Have! You! Met Them?!” where she answered whether she’s met different celebrities. She said she met Kardashian at the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party. “I was kneeling on the floor talking to Gladys Knight, because Georgia’s my second home and Gladys lives in Georgia. The Batman Resumes Production
The Batman has resumed production after shutting down this month due to a positive COVID-19 test on set. Warner Bros. confirmed Thursday to Variety that production is underway again in the U.K. Vanity Fair previously reported that Robert Pattinson, who plays Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, in the film, was the person who tested positive for COVID-19. Production at Leavesden Studios outside London was put on hold Sept. 3. Pattinson and cast and crew in close contact with the actor were reportedly quarantined for two weeks. “Following a hiatus for COVID-19 quarantine precautions, filming has now resumed on The Batman in the U.K.,” a Warner Bros. rep said.

Steve Harvey is speaking out in support of his friend Ellen DeGeneres amid a very public scandal involving toxic workplace accusations against her daytime show. He called DeGeneres “one of the coolest and kindest people I’ve met in this business” during an appearance on PEOPLE (the TV Show!) Thursday. He detailed how long he’s known DeGeneres, noting that she’s “the person that I’ve known for a number of years, that I saw back in the comedy club days, when we used to split time with the same management.” He reasoned that “people want to take something and make something out of everything,” he said. “[Ellen] has no control over what every staff member does, what every producer does, you can’t control that. You don’t even know some of the stuff that’s happening.” But he agreed that because “it’s her name that’s on the show” she had to “take the hit.” Harvey said he would do the same on his own talk show. He added how he doesn’t believe she has a “racist tendency.” “I’m a 63-year-old Black man. I’ve been Black the entire time. I ain’t took no days off. I ain’t experimented with nothing else. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson explained via Instagram Friday that he quite literally tore down his own front gate after a power outage caused by a storm rendered it inoperable. “Not my finest hour, but a man’s gotta go to work,” he began his caption. “We experienced a power outage due to severe storms, causing my front gate not to open. I tried to override the hydraulic system to open the gates, which usually works when power goes out — but this time it wouldn’t.” “Made some calls to see how fast I can get the gate tech on site, but I didn’t have 45min to wait,” Johnson continued. “By this time, I know I have hundreds of production crew members waiting for me to come to work so we can start our day.” “So I did what I had to do,” he wrote matter-of-factly. “I pushed, pulled and ripped the gate completely off myself. Misspelled Sign Replaced
A North Carolina city said it is replacing a recently erected street sign after residents of Autumn Oaks Lane complained that the sign incorrectly identified their street as “Autum Oaks Drive.” A Raleigh resident contacted WNCN-TV to complain that the sign, which recently was replaced after being struck by a vehicle, featured the misspelled word “Autum” and incorrectly identified the “lane” as a “drive.” The city of Raleigh said the local transportation department has made a new sign and is delivering it to the local homeowner’s association for installation. The city said the sign is maintained by the HOA. The New Jersey Department of Transportation dealt with a similar situation in September 2018, when drivers complained that a sign on Route 37 misspelled the name of the town Lavallette. The department said the contractor responsible for the sign replaced it for free.

Asbestos Town Looking For New Name
Officials in a Quebec town called Asbestos said a planned vote on a new name for the municipality might be delayed after negative public reaction to the local council’s options: Phenix, Apalone, Trois-Lacs and Jeffery. Mayor Hugues Grimard said Friday, four days after the name options were unveiled, that the local council is looking into other potential names after some of the town’s 7,000 residents reacted negatively to the suggestions. The names that were originally slated to be voted on Oct. 14-18 were Phenix, the French version of the mythical fire bird Phoenix; Apalone, a species of turtle; Trois-Lacs, which means “Three Lakes” in English; and Jeffrey, the name of the man who operated the town’s first asbestos mine. Town officials have long been discussing changing the name of Asbestos, which was named for the material originally mined in the town but has since come to be associated with deadly cancers. The official initiative to change the name began in November 2019, but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Man Invents “Candy Chute” For Halloween
An Ohio dad’s ingenuity is drawing attention online after he unveiled his Halloween invention: a “candy chute” for touch-free trick-or-treating. Andrew Beattie of Cincinnati said he and his 6-year-old daughter came up with the candy chute as a means of dispensing Halloween candy while social distancing and keeping the potential spread of germs to a minimum. “We took a tube from an Amazon package and got out the spray paint and the duct tape,” Beattie told TODAY Parents. The 6-foot tube was affixed to Beattie’s front porch handrail, creating a chute for handing out candy. “This will be a completely ‘touch-free’ experience for trick or treaters,” Beattie wrote in a Facebook post. “There will be a sign at the bottom of the tube showing them where to hold their bags and buckets so the candy can drop right in.” Beattie said the candy will all be factory sealed and he will be wearing gloves that he plans to change frequently to prevent the possibility of spreading germs.

Florida Welcome Sign Hung In Wrong City
A new sign welcoming travelers to a Florida city is drawing attention and raising controversy for an unusual reason — it’s in the wrong city. Clive Taylor, a Hollywood activist and vice president of the Hollywood Historical Society, sent an email to officials this week when he saw the new “Welcome to Dania Beach” sign on a road median that is securely within the Hollywood city limits. The new sign replaced an older, smaller sign bearing a similar message. “The little sign was bad enough,” Taylor told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “It should have never been there in the first place. But to have Dania put up this mini-billboard with lights on it is wrong. It says ‘Welcome to Dania Beach’ and you’re not even in Dania Beach.” Dania Beach City Manager Ana Garcia confirmed she has been in contact with her counterpart in Hollywood about the issue. City of Hollywood spokeswoman Joanne Hussey said the two cities are working together on a solution. See the video HERE.

7 Ways To Get Kids To Actually Pay Attention During Remote Learning

- Know what it means to actually “pay attention.”
Before parents (like me!) start fretting too much about whether our kids are paying attention (still me!), teachers say it’s important to clear up expectations.
“Break down what it means to pay attention. We say the phrase, but what does it mean? How does one ‘pay attention’ when they’re 7?” said Allen. “Sometimes we say things as adults that don’t translate to kids. This is one of them.”
Talk with your kid about what “paying attention” actually means, so you’re both clear. Like: Are your listening ears on? Are your eyes on whoever is speaking? Are you talking out of turn? Is your brain following what’s happening? It’s not necessarily: Are you sitting perfectly still without making a peep and politely raising your hand to answer every single question?
- Make a dedicated, consistent learning space for them.
This one can be hard for families without a ton of space. I, for example, have two adults and two kids crammed into a teeny walk-up apartment. But it really is important, experts say.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s the kitchen, living room or basement, but it should be free of distractions such as phones and TV, and most importantly it should be consistent,” said Sarah Brown Wessling, 2010 National Teacher of the Year and Johnston High School English teacher. “Consistency is key for at-home learning because it signals to your child that it’s time to learn and be engaged.”
- Let them fidget.
When I see my son squirm, my instinct is to assume he’s lost all interest. Which, to be fair, is sometimes true. But teachers know that sometimes kids just really need movement in order to tune in.
“Just like in school, some learners need to stand or fidget or move in order to pay attention,” Wessling said. “If this is your child, consider elevating your child’s screen onto a counter or on a stack of books so they can stand. I’m also a big fan of black binder clips for fidgeting.”
“For many of us, we can pay attention better when we are rubbing a piece of sandpaper in our pocket, playing with a rubber band … moving our hands or feet,” echoed Allen. “The good ol’ bungee cord around the bottom of the chair is a fun one for feet movement.” Maybe this is the year of the fidget spinner comeback?
- Find the best placement… for you.
It can be particularly hard as a parent of a young remote learner to know where you’re actually supposed to be. If I’m not there to oversee a live class call or start a taped one, my son is completely lost. Which makes sense. He’s 5.
But when I hang around too close, I know I’m more of a distraction. He defers to me, not his teacher. And I suspect he’s often self-conscious.
Wessling urged parents to play around with finding the right balance. “Be aware of your proximity,” she said. “Some children will work better when you are close, but not hovering. Others will work better with more independence and prefer an occasional check-in. What works for your child is the right thing to do.”
- Work in movement breaks. Lots of them.
“Kids (and adults) need to move while in front of the camera or computer!” Allen urged. “Maybe you and your kiddo have a secret signal, and you let the teacher in on it. At that signal, your kiddo can get up and move.”
You can keep it really simple and just have them get up and stretch or walk around for a few seconds. Or if you feel so inclined, you can take it up a notch. For example, Allen likes the idea of an activity board you can point to a few options on. Like: Two star jumps! One lunge! A quick yoga pose! And then they get back to work.
- Talk to your kid’s teacher — more than ever before.
Yes, teachers are slammed right now trying to figure out this “new normal.” But helping them get to know your child — and cementing the idea that you’re going to really tackle remote learning as a team — can go a long way in making sure online learning clicks. “Advocate for your kid. Speak up, and early,” Allen said. “Open those lines of communication so you all can figure out this new landscape together.”
Tell your child’s teacher early on if there’s anything that’s not working. And let them know when something is. Also, be patient. Have grace and compassion with teachers now more than ever, Allen urged. (Here are a few more practical ways to support teachers in this crazy, unprecedented year.)
- Don’t discipline them.
It can be pull-your-hair-out hard to watch your child struggle with online learning. We all want this to work. But don’t discipline your kid if they’re struggling.
“Avoid attaching immediate consequences to not paying attention. Especially early on in this experience, we don’t want our children to associate negativity with the desired behavior,” Wessling said. “Instead, affirm their good choices, model the behavior you’d most like to see, praise the small things and keep nudging them towards higher expectations.”
Also remember, your child’s teacher is actually their teacher. (Obvious, but easy to forget!) Lean on them and their accumulated wisdom to help you all get through this, as a team.
