Jerry West Unhappy With HBO Portrayal

Los Angeles Lakers legend Jerry West believes his portrayal in the HBO series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is “cruel” and “deliberately false” and demands a retraction, his attorney said in a statement.  “The portrayal of NBA icon and Los Angeles Lakers legend Jerry West in Winning Time is fiction pretending to be fact — a deliberately false characterization that has caused great distress to Jerry and his family,” attorney Skip Miller said.  “Contrary to the baseless portrayal in the HBO series, Jerry had nothing but love for and harmony with the Lakers organization, and in particular owner Dr. Jerry Buss, during an era in which he assembled one of the greatest teams in NBA history.”  West and Miller sent a 46-page letter to HBO to demand the retraction within two weeks. Several former NBA players and executives provided statements of support that were included in the letter.  “It is a travesty that HBO has knowingly demeaned him for shock value and the pursuit of ratings,” Miller said. “As an act of common decency, HBO and the producers owe Jerry a public apology and at the very least should retract their baseless and defamatory portrayal of him.”  The drama series, which premiered March 6, chronicles the NBA franchise’s rise into a dynasty in the 1980s. West is first depicted as a Lakers player and later transitions into a coach and front office executive.

Bryan Cranston To Become Godfather

Breaking Bad co-star Aaron Paul announced his son’s birth during Tuesday’s episode of The Tonight Show.  The new baby is Paul’s second child with his wife, Lauren Paul. The couple also have a 4-year-old daughter, Story Annabelle.  Paul said his former co-star Bryan Cranston will be godfather to his son.   “You know, I asked Bryan on his birthday if he would be our baby’s godfather. He said ‘no,'” Paul jokingly said.  “No, he was very excited, very honored,” he clarified. “I love the man to death, you know? he’s one of my best friends in the world, and so yeah, it was just a no-brainer.”  Paul and Cranston played Jesse Pinkman and Walter White on Breaking Bad, which had a five-season run on AMC from 2008 to 2013. Better Call Saul co-creator Peter Gould confirmed this month that Paul and Cranston will reprise their characters in the show’s sixth and final season.

Matt and Ben Reuniting For New Project

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are coming together once again for a new project about Nike sneakers executive Sonny Vaccaro.  Affleck is set to direct, write, co-star and produce in the sports biopic, while Damon will star, co-write and produce, according to the Hollywood Reporter.  Amazon Studios and Skydance Sports are reportedly in the midst of finalizing the deal for the flick alongside the two Oscar winners.  Matt will play Vaccaro and Affleck will portray Nike co-founder Phil Knight.  The story will revolve around the sports sneaker company and Vaccaro attempting to sign basketball player Michael Jordan in the mid-’80s for an endorsement deal. The partnership seemed impossible at the time; however, the deal became one of the most significant in sports history. The quest took the shoe executive to the b-baller’s mom, as well as to former coaches, advisers and friends. Jordon won’t be seen in the film and will just be a shadowy figure watching the scenes unfold from afar.

Blac Chyna’s Mom Claims She’s A Comedian

Blac Chyna’s mom denied threatening the judge presiding over her daughter’s trial against the Kardashian-Jenners and instead chalked her comment up to her “comedy” shtick.  Tokyo Toni said on one of her Instagram accounts Wednesday that despite the fact that she vowed to “get the judge” during a livestream, “nobody heard” her “threaten” him.  “I do sets are [sic] comedy and I will continue nobody’s going to stop my movement. But this right here would not be served something would not get contempt,” she wrote in a rambling post.  “I never stepped into the quart [sic] room.”  She claimed she waited “in the bay” while her daughter faced off against the reality TV family but was admonished when she “put 1 foot out.”  “[They] say you can’t go in there because they feel threatened. That’s what I got. I don’t get it,” she alleged.

Roseanne Barr Speaks Out About ABC

Roseanne Barr is back, and sharing more choice words for ABC after they fired her from — and killed her off — her eponymous sitcom following controversial remarks way back in 2018.  Barr’s new Reelz documentary — “Roseanne: Kicked Out of Hollywood” — gets raw about her ousting from the revival of her ’90s sitcom “Roseanne,” which is now known as “The Conners.”  She alleged that ABC always had issues with her contentious (the network president labeled them “repugnant”) tweets and comments — and engaged in “intellectual witch-burning” to silence her.  In 2018, ABC cancelled the original “Roseanne” revival after Barr’s racist tweet compared former President Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett to the offspring of the “Muslim brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”  “Any tweet that was not ‘I love Hillary Clinton,’ I got a call for,” Barr claimed in regards to the network’s management methods. The doc also dives deep into the moment Barr tweeted about a conspiracy theory about a Parkland school shooting survivor giving a Nazi salute at a rally for more gun control.  She deleted the tweet. “I removed it every time they called,” she said. “And they called frequently.”  “Everyone was begging me to give up my Twitter [use]. Everyone,” she also noted. “My kids were trying to lock me out, but I wouldn’t because it’s like I just couldn’t.”  But Barr refused to concede and never left the social media app. “I’m a goddamn American and I’m not going to do it,” the mother of five stated. “I’m a comic. I’m a bad girl. I’m too rock and roll. I’m going to say f— it and f— you until I take my last breath.”  “I shoulda not did it, but by God, I was really pissed that day,” Barr added. “And I did something I wouldn’t do if I hadn’t been on that Ambien. It makes you do a lot of crazy s – – t.”  “Roseanne: Kicked Out of Hollywood” airs April 24, at 8 p.m. ET, on Reelz.

Lost Wallet Found In Stadium Seats

An Indiana man who lost his wallet at a baseball game had the item returned to him after it was found wedged in a seat at the stadium eight months later.  Brandon Puckett of Indianapolis said he noticed his wallet was gone while he was attending a game between the Fort Wayne TinCaps and Dayton Dragons at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, and he attempted to search the area for his missing billfold, but had no luck.  “We looked everywhere. We went asking people around us,” Puckett told WANE-TV. “I did not think I’d ever see this again for sure.”  Richard Street, an usher at Parkview Field, was wiping down seats in preparation for the TinCaps season opener April 12 when he spotted something wedged in the seats.  Street pulled out what turned out to be a wallet. He showed it to a WANE-TV crew that happened to be nearby.  “It was unreal, you know, because that was the first game of the season, so you just didn’t think you’d run into anything like that,” Street said.

Largest Hockey Stick Attacked By Woodpeckers

Officials in a British Columbia town said they are looking into options for protecting the world’s largest hockey stick from a pair of destructive woodpeckers.  Residents of North Cowichan said they started to see a pair of northern flickers, a type of woodpecker protected by the British Columbia Wildlife Act, perching on the 61,000-pound hockey stick outside the Cowichan Community Center in early April.  One of the birds has been seen pecking holes in the stick, which bird experts said likely means the avian is building a nest.  Community center staff plugged the first hole with steel wool, but the birds had removed it a few days later.  Lori Iannidinardo, chair of the Cowichan Valley Regional District, said a bucket truck will be brought in soon so officials can investigate the holes. Officials said the birds will be left alone for the season if they have established a nest, but if the nest is not yet completed they will look into methods for urging the birds to consider a new location.

Someone Doesn’t Like Living Next To The Airport

One individual in Ireland made 12,272 noise complaints against Dublin Airport in 2021, airport operator DAA has announced.  The unidentified person averaged 34 complaints a day and accounted for 90% of all complaints received by DAA about aircraft taking off and landing at the location.  The total complaints last year totaled 13,569, but would have been only 1,296 if cases by the individual were not counted.  The individual, who lives in Ongar located in north-west Dublin, had also previously made 6,227 complaints in 2020, almost double what they did in 2021.  The complaints are continuing in 2022 with the person having already filed 5,276 notices, a daily average of 59.  Most complaints are filed by those who live near the airport and are on flight paths. Most complaints are also about aircraft being used at night.  DAA says it has responded to each individual complaint and said airport operators are committed to working with communities on issues such as aircraft noise.

Patient Inhales Dental Drill Bit

Doctors in Wisconsin were able to safely remove a tiny drill bit from inside a man’s lung after he inhaled the tool while undergoing a procedure.  Tom Kozsi said he was getting a filling from a dentist in Illinois when he inhaled the tiny drill bit.  “I was at the dentist getting a tooth filled, and then next thing I know I was told I swallowed this tool,” Jozsi told WISN-TV. “I didn’t really even feel it going down. All I felt was a cough. When they did the CT scan they realized, you didn’t swallow it. You inhaled it.”  Doctors at Aurora Medical Center-Kenosha in Wisconsin said the situation could have led to invasive surgery, but they decided to try a device that is typically used for early detection of cancer to attempt to pull the drill bit out without surgery.  Dr. Abdul Alraiyes, the pulmonary specialist who conducted the procedure, posted a video to YouTube showing the bit being removed.  See the video HERE.

4 Signs Your Perfectionism Is Becoming Toxic At Work

HUFFINGTON POST

  1. You only ruminate on what you didn’t do, which makes you unable to reflect on what you diddo.

If you can’t reflect on what you’ve accomplished, you are never going to be satisfied. For a perfectionist grading their job performance, “From 0 to 99 is bad. [The] 100 mark is acceptable,” explained Perpetua Neo, a psychologist and executive coach.

Perfectionists don’t take in compliments and they obsess over mistakes. And putting that unsustainable pressure on yourself is going to burn you out.  Under a perfectionist mindset, when you reach your goal, your next thought is only, “What’s next?” said New Jersey-based psychotherapist Angela Clack.  “They look at their competitor to see how they can do it better and the finish line just keeps moving further and further out until we burn out,” Clack said. “[They] never get to enjoy the moment of [their] wins.”  Burnout results from chronic workplace stress and can wreck your health in the long run. It’s associated with unending fatigue, headaches, insomnia, depressive symptoms, and other poor health outcomes.

That’s why it’s so important to ease up and take the time to feel good about what you did do after you finish a task. This self-awareness not only helps you reflect on your career but can also help ward off unhealthy perfectionist tendencies.

  1. You are overly worried about what will happen if you or your co-workers don’t reach your high standards.

For a meta-analysis published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, researchers from Miami University, the University of Florida and Georgia Tech analyzed 95 previous studies and found that there are two types of perfectionists: excellence-seeking perfectionists who demand excessively high standards for themselves and others, and failure-avoiding perfectionists who are “characterized by an obsessive concern about, and an aversion to, failing to reach extremely high performance standards,” study co-author and management professor Laurens Steed put it to HuffPost.

In other words, if you have meltdowns over the thought of not finishing an assignment to your standards, that’s a sign you could be a failure-avoiding perfectionist. And that’s a problem.  Steed’s study found that burnout, stress and anxiety were more strongly related to failure-avoiding perfectionism, while excellence-seeking perfectionism was more tied to benefits like motivation and engagement.  Overall, being a perfectionist did not improve job performance, regardless of which type a person was.

“Our results suggested that perfectionism is largely not helpful in the workplace. While being highly perfectionistic can yield some beneficial outcomes, these benefits can be offset with negative outcomes, and there was no overall performance effect,” Steed said.

  1. You keep missing deadlines because you don’t think your work is good enough.

Garcia said a sign that your perfectionism is doing more harm than good is when it doesn’t allow you to get anything done.

“You fine-tune work assignments over and over, deadlines get pushed because what you’re working on never feels good enough, or you may even have trouble starting a work task out of fear you will not be able to do it perfectly,” she said.  When you become notorious on your team for missing deadlines, you may gain an unflattering work reputation for being unreliable. Once that perception sticks, you will find it hard to advance in your career.

Garcia finds that perfectionism can not only lead to burnout but also frustration from your boss and co-workers and ongoing stress that carries over from work to your home life.  “If you are cranky, irritable, demanding or difficult to manage as an employee or even in leadership as a result of the inner struggle to be perfect, you will likely impact and influence the team members and co-workers connected to you, creating uncomfortable interactions,” Clack said.

  1. You don’t socialize because you are too worried about coming off as “not perfect.”

Neo said another sign that your perfectionism is becoming harmful is when you cannot truly listen or engage with colleagues or loved ones because you are too worried about upholding a perfect self-image.

“A person could let their perfectionism hold them back from being around their co-workers because if co-workers know the ‘real them’… nobody is going to like them,” she said. “They are incredibly pressured by themselves to put on this social mask.”  Psychologists have found that, along with perfectionists who set unrealistic standards for themselves, there are “socially prescribed” perfectionists that feel like impossible standards are being forced upon them by society or the people around them. Socially prescribed perfectionism has been associated with depression and other mental health conditions.  Gordon Flett, a psychologist who has researched this link, has said the reason socially prescribed perfectionists may have poor health outcomes is that this kind of perfectionism “has an element of pressure combined with a sense of helplessness and hopelessness,” he told the American Psychological Association. Socially prescribed perfectionists tend to feel that “the better I do, the better I’m expected to do,” he said.

If you are wondering whether your perfectionism is helping or hurting your career, Neo said, ask yourself: “Is it making your life shrink? Is it making you unhappy, anxious, basically a shadow of who you are? [Do you feel like] there is a growing chasm between the person you are presenting on the outside, but inside you are feeling like things are going to crumble at any time?”

If any of your answers are yes, perfectionism is no longer serving you, and you should consider redefining your standards to “good enough,” she said.
