Michael Keaton Returns As Batman

30 years after he last wore the cape in 1992’s “Batman Returns,” Michael Keaton is suiting back up as the Dark Knight in “The Flash” (in theaters June 23, 2023).  Attendees at CinemaCon, a convention for movie theater owners and studios, got a first look Tuesday at Keaton in the stand-alone superhero film, which centers on embattled Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen, aka The Flash.  In the footage, a secret bookshelf door opens to reveal a shadowy room full of Batsuits. Later, The Flash and Supergirl (Sasha Calle) recruit Keaton’s Batman for what’s tipped to be a multiverse adventure featuring different versions of the DC characters.   “Are you ready?” Barry asks, as the camera pans to Keaton’s Bruce Wayne: maskless and wearing a Batsuit in what appears to be Wayne Manor.    “You wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts,” Bruce replies, referencing Keaton’s famous line from 1989’s “Batman” and earning cheers from the crowd.   “The Flash” is also set to feature the returns of Ben Affleck’s Batman and Michael Shannon’s General Zod from past DC Extended Universe movies, although neither appeared in the footage that premiered at CinemaCon.

Madonna Is Single Again

Madonna and her boyfriend, Ahlamalik Williams, have broken up after three years of dating.  “Madonna has thrown herself into a busy social life and has been seeing her friends and family after the split,” a source told the outlet.  “She has a packed schedule, working on her upcoming biopic, new music and looking after her family.”  The now-former couple split amicably, according to the insider, but had been “on and off” for a while.  “They are still on good terms and there are no hard feelings, but they are at different places with their lives,” the source added, noting that Williams moved out of Madonna’s house.  “With them both working on other things, it was hard to keep their romance alight.”  She seemed to allude to the rumored split on her Instagram Story Tuesday when she posted a cryptic quote about karma.  “Karma said: when somebody in your life is not right for you….god will continuously use them to hurt you until you become strong enough to let them go,” the quote read.

Betty White’s Home For Sale

Betty White’s Brentwood Park home has listed for $10.57 million, marking the first time the home has hit the market in more than 50 years. But instead of a new buyer calling the charming property with canary-yellow shutters their own, it’s being sold for land value — specifically, as an opportunity to “build your dream home on a flat lot in a serene country setting,” the listing says.  White died in this home, located at 506 North Carmelina Ave., on New Year’s Eve weeks from her 100th birthday and six days after suffering a stroke.  She purchased the home in 1968 with her late husband Allen Ludden. The couple chose the house due to its proximity to various studios where she worked while still providing privacy, a spokesman for White’s estate told the Wall Street Journal, which was the first to report the listing.  As it stands, the property has five bedrooms and six bathrooms — and spans 3,029 square feet. But prospective buyers won’t be able to tour inside.

The Batman Is Getting A Sequel

Warner Bros. has confirmed that it will make a sequel to The Batman. Star Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves will both return for the follow-up to the biggest film of 2021 so far. No release date was given.  Reeves confirmed that he would write as well as direct The Batman 2, and said, “I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.”  As noted by Variety and Deadline, The Batman marked Warner Bros.’ return to releasing movies exclusively in theaters after more than a year of simultaneous releases on its streaming service, HBO Max. The film made around $760 million at the worldwide box during a relatively short 45-day theatrical window.  Fans should be happy to see Pattinson return to the role. His moody and vulnerable take on the character was widely praised, with Polygon’s The Batman review calling him “a great Batman, surly and serious, but not impenetrable.” No plot details for the new film have been announced, although after Barry Keoghan’s monstrous Joker was unveiled in a deleted scene released a few weeks after the film’s opening, it seems more than likely that the character will at least make an appearance.

Rekindled Romance:  Dwayne Wade & Gabrielle Union-(Us Weekly)

Looks like they made it!  The proud parents of daughter Kaavia, 3, are coming up on eight years of marriage this summer.  But before they solidified their relationship with a fairy-tale wedding (at a literal castle with a moat!), the retired NBA star and the L.A.’s Finest actress took a break.  After five years of dating, the duo called it quits in April 2013, only to reconcile and get engaged that December.  “We kind of took a step back,” explained Wade, who also fathered a baby during their breakup.  “At the end of the day, we came back together and said, ‘Listen, we want to continue this.’”  Indeed!

Restaurant Grills Millionth Steak

A Georgia woman who has worked at the same restaurant for over 20 years was honored by the company after grilling her one-millionth steak.  Gayle Dudley, who has worked at the LongHorn Steakhouse on Macon Road in Columbus for more than two decades, was surprised at work by executives from the nationwide chain after grilling 1 million steaks during her tenure there.  Executives presented Dudley with a $5,000 check, a gold chef coat and the title of “Grill Master Legend.”  LongHorn Steakhouse, which operates more than 540 restaurants nationwide, said Dudley is one of a small handful of employees to be dubbed a Grill Master Legend after cooking 1 million steaks.

13 Year-Old To Graduate With Doctorate

A 13-year-old Minnesota boy is set to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in May — and he’s planning to get his doctorate.  Elliott Tanner of St. Louis Park is scheduled to graduate in May from the University of Minnesota with a major in physics and a minor in math.  Tanner said the next step in his education will be the school’s doctoral physics program.  The boy’s mother, Michelle Tanner, said he taught himself to read at an age when most kids are still figuring out how to tie their shoes.  “He had started reading when he was maybe 2, just 3. We said, ‘Oh, well, that’s interesting. You’re reading. We didn’t teach you to read,'” she told KSTP-TV.  Tanner started reading college-level textbooks at the age of 9, and two years later he graduated from Normandale Community College with an associate of science degree.

Florida Man Shoots Man At The Golf Course

The 15th hole of the Kings Point Golf Course in florida was shattered by the sound of gunshots and retirees watching from their balconies were shocked to see a 74-year-old man shooting at a dog-walking neighbor.  Deputies arrived to find Herbert Merritt, 64, lying on the ground, a “gunshot wound to his left ankle,” according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.  Nearby, they found Robert Levine, with a “black semi-automatic handgun in his front left pocket.”  Merritt told deputies he was walking his dog on the grass next to the golf course when Levine rode up in his golf cart and “Levine… began causing a verbal altercation with him due to having his dog on the golf course… He then began shooting at him while Merritt was running away.”  Levine chased Merritt around a tree while continuing to shoot – Merritt said he shot about five rounds at him, according to the report and witnesses.  Merritt told deputies he had never seen Levine before, did nothing to provoke him and “he felt that Levine was trying to kill him.”

Candidate Can’t Refer To Himself As “The Patriot”

A Republican lawmaker who wanted to refer to himself as “The Patriot” on the ballot can’t use that nickname, the Oklahoma Election Board has ruled.  The board decided Monday that term-limited state Rep. Sean Roberts can still run for Oklahoma Labor Commissioner, but he can’t refer to himself by that nickname on the ballot.  Oklahoma election rules allow a candidate to use a nickname if it’s a name the candidate is generally known by or who does business using the nickname. Roberts’ opponent, Republican Labor Commissioner Leslie Osborn, said there’s no evidence Roberts is known as “The Patriot.”  Roberts said in a statement he’s considering appealing the board’s decision.

9 Easy Ways to Make Extra Money Working Wedding Gigs

THE PENNY HOARDER

  1. Take Engagement Photos

If you’re a shutterbug, this is a great way to build your portfolio and earn extra cash.

Your friends may want to hire a professional photographer for the wedding itself, but they might like to save a little money on their engagement photos.

Be sure to look at professional engagement photos beforehand to get ideas for poses, and then upload the edited shots to a photo-sharing platform so the couple can easily download them and order prints.

If you’re an experienced photographer, you probably already have what it takes to start your own wedding photography business.

  1. Address Envelopes

Many couples want the address on their save-the-dates, invitations and thank you cards to be perfect. And many are willing to pay top dollar for perfection: professional calligraphers charge $3 to $4 per envelope!

If you have good penmanship, offer to address envelopes for a fraction of the price.

Even at $1 per envelope, you’ll still earn $100 for a 100-person wedding.

  1. Bake Desserts

Wedding cakes cost an arm and a leg. If you’re talented in the kitchen, here’s an area where you can definitely profit.

Choose a dessert you excel at making, or one that’s meaningful for the couple.

Cupcakes are an obvious choice — they’re cheaper than a cake, easier to transport and trendy. Bake a few different flavors to please the varying tastes of the guests, and decorate them to wow the crowd.

If things go well, you might want to consider starting a baking business from home.

  1. Provide Musical Entertainment

Help make the day special with your musical talent.

If you’re a guitarist, play and sing while the bride walks down the aisle, or during the cocktail hour. If you have a band, get the crowd going at the reception.

Love to sing? Consider working weekends as a wedding singer to earn $400 and up per gig.

Or if you have the gear, spin up a wedding DJ side hustle.

Nick Smith from Southwest Indiana bought his first set of DJ sound equipment when he was 20 years old from a local bar that was closing down.

Sixteen years later, Smith runs his own successful wedding DJ business where he pulls in upwards of $1,000 a gig.

DJing involves some initial upfront costs, like music licensing fees and reliable transportation to move your gear.

But finding work is easy, Smith said. He’s performed at over 200 weddings, most of which came from friend referrals and word of mouth.

  1. Create Decorations

Crafty people, rejoice! Weddings provide an abundance of opportunities for you to get your glue gun on.

Everything from centerpieces to place cards to favors is cheaper to make than to buy, so offer to design and execute all decorative needs for the wedding.

Shop at discount stores and buy in bulk to save money on your supplies.

  1. Pick Up Catering Gigs

With wedding season in full bloom, now is a great time to find catering side gigs.

From bartenders and cooks, to servers and general kitchen staff, catering gigs run the gamut. Most shifts take place on the weekends and last seven to 10 hours per shift.

You can also explore freelance bartending gigs if you want to bring in some serious cash from private events.

Catering staff tend to get paid better than restaurant staff. Expect to earn around $13 to $17 an hour, with some high-end events netting upwards of $25 an hour.

  1. Do Wedding Makeup and Hair

Every bride wants to look beautiful on her wedding day. That’s why people who do wedding makeup and hair earn big bucks.

If all your friends come to you for beauty advice, this might be the perfect job for you.

Be sure to do a test run a few weeks before the wedding. This gives you and the bride a chance to agree on a style, and helps avoid unwanted surprises on the big day.

If you want to take your bridal makeup business to the next level, get licensed and obtain limited liability insurance.

Make sure to Google the cosmetology laws in your state as well.

  1. Love to Sew? Do Alterations

Sewing is a rare skill these days, but if you know your way around a needle and thread, you could earn major money altering clothes — specifically, wedding dresses.

Brides want their dress to fit like a glove — but don’t want to pay the high alteration fees charged at bridal shops.

Market yourself as an independent seamstress who can offer the same quality at a lower price, and you’ll have brides knocking at your door in no time.

  1. Be an Officiant

If you aren’t shy around large groups and don’t mind delving into a few state and local laws, becoming a wedding officiant could land you a few hundred dollars per gig.

Becoming ordained is simple. It takes about five minutes and is usually free.

But according to FindLaw.com, Alabama, Connecticut, Virginia, Tennessee — and certain parts of Pennsylvania, New York and Las Vegas — don’t recognize online ordinations.

To be certain, you should ask a clerk at your county courthouse. You can also use this interactive map of state licensing requirements from the American Marriage Ministries.

If you want to start performing ceremonies on a regular basis, you will need to set a rate: $75 to $100 is a good starting point for officiants on average.
