Britney Spears’ Sister Named to Her Trust

Jamie Lynn Spears has been named the trustee of Britney Spears’ fortune, putting her in charge of her sister’s SJB Revocable Trust.  Jamie Lynn will be responsible for ensuring that Britney Spears’ fortune is transferred into a trust benefitting her children in the event of her death, according to court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight.  She was made trustee in 2018. Their father, Jamie Spears and Britney Spears’ former co-conservator Andrew Wallet, signed off on the appointment, Us Weekly reported.  Britney Spears, while she is living, is the sole beneficiary of the SJB Revocable Trust. The trust was set up by the singer in 2004 to protect her fortune and children’s financials.  Jamie Spears is also asking the court to allow Fidelity Financial Management to create blocked accounts that will hold all of Britney Spears’ assets. Jamie Lynn Spears, upon Britney Spears’ death, will receive the entire trust and will ensure that the assets are used for Britney Spears’ children, 14-year-old Sean Federline and 13-year-old Jayden James Federline.  A judge recently ruled that Britney Spears’ conservatorship will remain the same and was extended to Feb. 1, 2021.

Tom Cruise Catches Movie In The Theater

Tom Cruise has taken a big step toward returning to pre-coronavirus life — by visiting a movie theater.  He recently saw “Tenet” in a theater and has now shared his new-age moviegoing experience with the world. “Tenet,” set to hit American theaters on Sept. 3 after international releases in the weeks prior, is a large-budget Christopher Nolan-directed film set to serve as a test of box office strength with hopes of reinvigorating the theater industry and getting fans back into seats.  He shared a video on Twitter on Tuesday to chronicle his visit to the see the new film.  The clip begins with a mask-clad Cruise in the back seat of a car, waving to fans as they say hello.  “How did that happen?” he asked. “I’m wearing a mask.”  The inside of the theater can also briefly be seen, and while most people seem to be socially distancing to some degree with seats in between parties, it’s notable that the theater appears to be relatively full.  Cruise then watches the movie, seemingly wearing his mask the entire time.
*******Not one kernel of popcorn got to his mouth!!

Kanye West Makes It To More Ballots

Presidential candidate Kanye West has managed to get on the 2020 presidential ballot in three more states, Idaho, Minnesota and Tennessee.  The secretary of state’s offices in both Idaho and Minnesota confirmed Tuesday that West had officially qualified to be on the 2020 presidential ballot this November.  West filed his petition to be on the ballot in Tennessee last Thursday, just before the state’s noon deadline.  A spokeswoman for the Tennessee Secretary of State’s office said at the time that officials were reviewing West’s filings to see if he met the 275 signature requirement.  Reached on Tuesday by The Tennessean, a local newspaper, the state’s coordinator of elections confirmed that West had qualified and would be on the ballot, adding that the office had counties stop verifying signatures after 332 were found to be legitimate.  West has struggled with ballot access since launching his late-entry presidential bid. Despite securing spots on the 2020 ballot in Arkansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah and Vermont, he has faced numerous legal challenges to his petitions.
********Of course, he’ll win all those states, but what about New York, California and Florida???

Cameron Diaz’s New Wine Gets Bad Reviews

Cameron Diaz’s new “clean wine” only debuted two months ago — but it’s already not aging well.  The A-lister’s Avaline white wine — which sells for $24 a bottle — earned a “D-rating” in a new survey of nearly 400 households. Diaz’s vino was voted least favorite of “celebrity white wines,” while wine from musicians Sting and Dave Matthews generated the best buzz — tying for the top spot.  She has said she and biz partner Katherine Power were motivated to make wine when they repeatedly found themselves getting headaches after their second pour.  “So we asked ourselves, ‘Maybe there’s a way to make wine better for us?’ ” Diaz recently told Jimmy Fallon. In an Instagram video with Power she explained how she was shocked to discover wineries are allowed to incorporate 73 additives.  “I really, honestly, I thought it was just fermented grapes,” said Diaz, adding that she struggled to source brands made with organic grapes and zero pesticides at shops and restaurants.
********They left out the pesticides and preservatives… and the taste!!
*******She got the idea when someone told her to “stick a cork in it!!”

TMZ Faces Sexism Charges

A former employee of TMZ and its sister site TooFab is accusing the news outlets of firing her after she complained of sexism.   Bernadette Zilio, who worked for the websites between 2015 and 2020, described the work environment as “100% a bro fest” and a “[f]reaking frat house,” in papers she filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Los Angeles on Tuesday.  Zilio said she and her female colleagues were “belittled and abused, held to different and more stringent standards … denied advancement opportunities, and retaliated against when [they] resisted the sexist and misogynistic ways.”  Zilio claims that she was fired in February after lodging a complaint with the site’s human resources department, which promised to investigate.  The complaint says she was let go “within a few days of [parent companies] Warner Bros. and EHM’s Human Resources … telling Ms. Zilio that it rejected her complaints about the sexist and misogynist treatment, and instead accepted the excuses her male supervisors gave for the differential treatment.”
********Will TMZ cover this scandal????

Last moment of pride-

Two this year-when my middle daughter, Maggie, graduated from Stanford and my youngest daughter, Audrey, graduated high school.  And our oldest, Gracie, is an actress in L.A.  They’ve very outspoken about what they believe in, I’m proud of that.

Last injury-

A couple of days ago I was doing some kind of workout and tweaked my elbow.  Look, I’m 53.  I beat myself up pretty good in the gym.  Everything hurts when I wake up in the morning.

Last time I was starstruck-

We were in New York, and Bruce Springsteen was playing at the Meadowlands.  We met him in his dressing room, and when we left, Faith said, “Do you realize you didn’t say one word?”  I was scared I’d call him the Boss.

Man Finds Snake In The Bedroom

A British man received an unwelcome late night surprise when he awoke to find a 4-foot snake slithering around his bedroom.  The man, who asked to be identified only as Kelvin, said he woke at his Beeston, Leeds, England, home to an unusual sound in his bedroom.  “I opened my eyes but it was pitch dark so I picked up my phone and scanned the room with the torch and as I was putting the torch down I saw the snake climbing up the table right next to my bed,” Kelvin said.  “I dived across the room and switched the light on and the snake was there, half on the floor and half on the table by my bed,” he said.  Kelvin said he trapped the snake in a sleeping bag cover and call the RSPCA.  RSPCA inspector Dave Holgate arrived to collect the snake. Holgate said the serpent is non-venomous corn snake and was likely a pet that escaped or was abandoned.

Man Finds Extra Money In His Bank Account

A Minnesota man who discovered an unexpected $150,000 in his bank account said he eventually learned the money had been intended for small business relief.  Thomas Fahling said he was surprised to discover the money in his Sunrise Banks account in the spring, and he assumed someone from the bank would soon realize the error and get in touch with him.  Fahling said weeks went by and the money remained in his account, so he contacted the bank to investigate.  The money turned out to be from the Paycheck Protection Program, which was established by Congress to help small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.  An Indiana man made a similar — but much larger — discovery in April when he checked his bank account to see if his $1,700 stimulus had arrived and instead discovered $8.2 million.  Charles Calvin said he called his bank the following day and was told his account had returned to normal — but his $1,700 stimulus payment had arrived. He said his bank did not disclose the cause of the error.

Strategies That’ll Help You Stop Fighting With Your Partner About Money

The Penny Hoarder

Understand That Beliefs About Money Take Hold Early

How you approach your finances as an adult goes back to what you learned about money as a child, explains Jessica Small, who works as a licensed marriage and family therapist and premarital counselor with Growing Self Counseling and Coaching.

It always helps to have a little money in the bank. Get great ideas about how to build your savings delivered straight to your inbox in The Penny Hoarder Daily.

“Upbringing probably plays the biggest role in someone’s financial style,” Small said. “So much of our belief system about money is defined by the messages we received as a child and how money is talked about in our families growing up.”

Allana Pratt, an intimacy coach, relationship expert, and host of “Intimate Conversations,” also points out that early beliefs surrounding money all result in an emotional mindset that will impact how you manage money later in life. Those beliefs could stem from things like getting positive attention when you saved your allowance as a child or learning to limit your dreams because you grew up in poverty.

Action Step for Couples: Carve out time to talk about how your family of origin approached money. Spend some time exploring how your partner’s financial upbringing — as well as your own — affects how you both approach money today. It can help both of you understand the “why” behind your beliefs about money.

Realize that Finances = Feelings

It’s important to recognize that when it comes to managing money, it’s never just about the dollar signs, according to Small. How you approach money actually boils down to how you feel about money, because a lot of emotion is attached to money in our society.

“We watch how our parents or primary caregivers spend money, their emotions around money, and how they fight about money to try to make sense of the value money holds,” she said. “If we grow up in a house where anxiety is the primary emotion that is expressed around money, then we begin to associate anxiety with finances. Sometimes, we’ll replicate what we saw growing up and other times people will consciously do the direct opposite.”

Small said that because finances are so closely intertwined with feelings, whenever she sees a couple in her practice who are struggling with financial management, she always asks them one question: “What does money mean to you?”

She asks that question because what we associate money with is usually what drives our spending. For example, a person who associates money with stability and safety may be more likely to save because having money in the bank makes them feel safe. On the other hand, a person who associates money with freedom may be more inclined to spend their money on adventure and travel, to live on their own or to buy things they want.

“Once we understand a person’s values around money, it is much easier to understand and have empathy for their spending/saving habits, as well as start to find the overlap where couples can agree,” she says.

Action Step for Couples: Talk about what money means to you as an individual, and how your feelings towards money may be playing out in how you manage your finances both together and separately.

Don’t Put Off “The Talk”

It’s not uncommon for couples to be faced with the realization that they’re on different financial pages when faced with big transitions in life, such as a marriage, having a child, losing a job, buying a home, or handling elder care and preparing for retirement.

Ideally, you would be on the same page financially before facing those big-life moments in order to minimize the stress of navigating finances and the situation at once, but sometimes, that just doesn’t happen. But it’s never too late to have the financial talk.

Action Step for Couples: Small recommends asking each other the following questions:

  • Do you both live and spend from a budget?
  • How do you both feel about carrying credit card debts?
  • How do you both feel about having debt at all?
  • What you would do if you came into a lot of money (think: inheritance, lottery, etc.)?
  • What do you feel is the most important thing you can spend money on? (I.e., experiences, material items, shelter, food, charitable contributions, etc.)
  • Do you want to share a bank account—and if you already do or don’t, should that strategy be revisited?
  • What do you believe is the best way to save for retirement?
