Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals Why She Left Acting

Gwyneth Paltrow has mostly moved on from acting in favor of her lifestyle brand Goop, but she now says it’s partly because of Harvey Weinstein.  “And, and again, like this wasn’t conscious at the time, but I started to feel, and, you know, frankly, I think part of my, part of the shine of acting wore off, you know, being in such intense public scrutiny, being a kid who’s like living every breakup on every headline,” Paltrow, 48, said on SiriusXM’s “Quarantined with Bruce.”  “So if you compound those things with the fact that like, you know, to be totally candid, I had a really rough boss for most of my movie career at Miramax,” she added.  Weinstein, co-founded Miramax with his brother in 1979 and ran it until 2005, when he founded The Weinstein Company. Under the Miramax banner, Paltrow starred in “Emma” and won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1999 for her role in “Shakespeare in Love.”  Paltrow, who accused Weinstein of sexually harassing her in a hotel room, is credited in helping the New York Times bring down the former Hollywood kingpin, who was sentenced to 23 years behind bars.

Cobra Kai” has released its first trailer for Season 3 on Netflix, its new home after originally debuting on YouTube Premium.  The new trailer shows Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), the original “Karate Kid” leads turned “Cobra Kai” stars more than 30 years later, put aside their differences and team up to save the Cobra Kai team. John Kreese, the original antagonist in 1984’s “Karate Kid,” is back and has taken over as the sole sensei of Johnny’s new Cobra Kai karate dojo with a ruthless “no mercy” philosophy. Daniel and Johnny must work together, like buddy cops Tango and Cash they joke, to save Cobra Kai and defeat Kreese.

Joe Manganiello Auditioned For Spider-Man

Joe Manganiello said he auditioned to play Spider-Man/Peter Parker in the original 2002 Spider-Man film while appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers.  He appeared in the first live-action Spider-Man as school bully Flash Thompson, while Tobey Maguire was cast in the title role.  Manganiello told host Seth Meyers on Tuesday that all the young men who appear in the film including James Franco, originally auditioned to play Spider-Man.  “I knew that you know, no matter how much of a nerd I am on the inside, I’m never going to get cast as Peter Parker because you know, I’m six-five, 200 whatever. So finding the bullies for me would be really odd,” Manganiello said. “I just didn’t fit that role. I knew that I’d fit the part of Flash, or the bully better and I actually came prepared. I learned those scenes and was off-book on them when I got there,” he continued about how he still came prepared to audition for Flash Thompson after reading lines as Peter Parker.

Joe Exotic Turns To Kim K For Help

Joe Exotic is hoping Kim Kardashian can get him out of jail.  He penned a letter to Kardashian, asking if she could help score him a pardon from President Trump.  “I know you have never met me and may never want to however I do believe that you hold the values of our justice system dear to your heart,” reads the note, dated Nov. 4.  “Please help me by just taking 10 minutes out of your life and placing a call to President Trump to look at my 257 page pardon,” he wrote, according to ET.  “It’s all the evidence I’m innocent and ask him to sign my pardon so I can return home to [my husband] Dillon [Passage] and my father.” Kardashian successfully lobbied President Trump in 2018 to grant clemency to Alice Marie Johnson, a grandmother who was serving a life sentence without parole for drug offenses.

Rachael Ray Gets Emotional For Christmas

Rachael Ray, whose upstate New York mansion was burned in a fire this summer, got choked up while giving fans a look at the holiday decor at her temporary home.  She said she and husband John Cusimano didn’t put up their traditional Christmas trees this year because their family isn’t visiting, “but we absolutely would not let the holidays come and go without some decoration.”  “I’ve got to tell you, I don’t know where I’d be without friends and a community and people so dear to me that helped me bring Christmas to life, even when you’re not at home,” she said in a segment for the “Rachael Ray Show” this week.  Instead of the large twin trees she usually puts up, she strung up garlands around her guest home. She did put up one small tree that resembled one she and Cusimano planted in Italy at their 2005 wedding, as well as some other “living things because it’s all about renewal” this year.  See the video HERE.

Taylor Swift Has A Secret Boyfriend

Taylor Swift revealed that her boyfriend Joe Alwyn was the mystery co-writer “William Bowery” on her latest album, “Folklore,” she’s now talking about the secrecy surrounding the entire project.  “The only people who knew were the people I was making it with, my boyfriend, my family, and a small management team,” Swift told EW.  She said she wasn’t expecting to make a new album, but it emerged naturally from all of the time she spent watching movies in the beginning of quarantining.  “We would watch a different movie every night. I’m ashamed to say I hadn’t seen ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ before,” she said. “One night I’d watch that, then I’d watch ‘L.A. Confidential,’ then we’d watch ‘Rear Window,’ then we’d watch ‘Jane Eyre.'”  Swift and Alwyn, a British actor, have been really good about keeping their four-year relationship private.

Bloated Kelsea’s Tummy Rumble-(Globe)

Country cutie Kelsea Ballerini hit a sour note, snapping at a nosy fan for rudely asking if her rounded tummy was a blossoming baby bump.  “I’m not….I’m sure you mean well, but it’s incredibly insensitive to ask or assume if another woman is pregnant,” replied the offended 27-year-old songstress, wed to Aussie singer Morgan Evans, 35, since 2017.  “I’m not, by the way.  Just carrying around my organs,” she quips.

Giant Goldfish Found

Parks officials in a South Carolina county shared a photo of a massive, 9-pound goldfish found by researchers doing a fish population survey of a lake.  Greenville County Parks said the unusually large goldfish was found swimming in Oak Grove Lake Park in Greenville during a fish population survey.  Greenville Rec, which oversees the park, posted a photo of the fish to Facebook.  “Anyone missing their goldfish? This 9 [pound] goldfish was found in Oak Grove Lake during some recent testing at our lakes,” the post said.  Ty Houck, an official with Greenville County Parks, said no other goldfish were found during the survey.  “At the advice of professionals, we decided to leave the bachelor, or bachelorette, back where we found it,” Huock told NBC News. “Obviously, they’re really happy here.”  See the pic HERE.

Weatherman Wins The Lottery

A meteorologist with an Iowa TV station said he went to work for two days without revealing he had a nearly $17,000 winning lottery ticket in his pocket.  Jason Sydejko, who works for KCCI-TV in Des Moines, told Iowa Lottery officials he won $16,807.70 in the Cherry Twist Progressive InstaPlay game after a Friday stop at the Kum & Go convenience store in Des Moines.  Sydejko said he didn’t look at his tickets until he was back in his car.  “I looked down and I saw three hats in a line next to the ‘progressive jackpot winner.’ I ran back into the store and handed them my tickets and yelled that I had won,” he said.  Sydejko said he knew he wouldn’t be able to claim his prize until Monday, so the winning ticket went into his wallet, where it remained while he delivered weather reports Saturday and Sunday.  He said keeping the secret was challenging.

Another 2020 Casualty

Organizers of the Bad Sex In Fiction award have called this year’s ceremony off – saying people have suffered enough in 2020.  Set up in 1993 by the Literary Review, the annual prize honors the “most outstandingly awful scene of sexual description in an otherwise good novel”.  But as the world remains in the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was felt that an award this year would be one step too far.  Previous winners include Morrissey, Tom Wolfe, Giles Coren, AA Gill and Melvyn Bragg.  References to a “bulbous salutation” (Morrissey) and the repetition of “slither slither slither slither” (Wolfe) have been involved.
********Hey… that sounds good!!!!

How To Deal With The Co-worker Who Is Constantly Complaining

Huffington Post

  1. Understand where the complainer may be coming from.

Before you call out a complainer, put yourself in their shoes. It’s helpful to understand what their goal may be in sharing all of their grievances with you.

Gregory Tall, a workshop facilitator with over 15 years of human resources experience, said that workplace complainers fall into three buckets: people who are simply looking for someone to listen and want to be heard, people who are not aware of the matters surrounding their complaints and people who are looking for someone to assist them with a legitimate grievance.

More often than not, complaining is rooted in feeling like there is no access to solving a problem or even to someone who will listen to it, Tall said.

Put the complainer in the context of this strange, hard year. During an ongoing coronavirus pandemic, a national reckoning with systemic racism and a divisive president, there are many reasons why you may be hearing more complaints right now from colleagues.

“People are under incredible levels of stress that far exceed, for many of us, the level of stress we’re used to carrying,” said Cicely Horsham-Brathwaite, licensed psychologist and career coach. She noted that some complaints right now may be about what race, equity and inclusion does and does not look like, while others could boil down to “Do they care about who I am as a person as I am navigating the pandemic?” Others may be legitimate grievances about how to improve workplace conditions.

  1. Consider calling out the behavior if you have a close relationship.

If, every time you get together with a co-worker, they spend most of the time dumping complaints on you, you can bring up the behavior directly and explain how it does not make you feel good.

Horsham-Brathwaite suggested using the end of the year as an opening with language like, “I’m really taking stock of how I negotiate the work environment … I’m realizing that it has me paying attention to problems more than what actually is going well. And I’m making a commitment to myself that I’m going to have a more balanced perspective. Is this something that you’d be interested in partnering with me on, because it’s my personal goal?”

Resetting that one-sided relationship with a complaining co-worker can also involve recognizing the role you may play in inviting colleagues to share their objections with you constantly.

Do you pride yourself in being the go-to for everyone’s complaints? That can be a sign of work martyrdom, a common affliction in which people overextend themselves with other people’s work problems in order to feel valuable. If left unchecked, it creates situations in which you cannot take care of your own needs, because you are too busy dealing with everyone else’s.

  1. If you want to redirect the conversation, you can do it tactfully.

If you don’t have a strong relationship with the person, it can be easier to exit the conversation by validating their complaint with, “I hear you, I understand your frustration” and then noting that you have a deadline or other responsibility you have to get to, Tall said.

If you don’t want to engage, think of it as a networking event or cocktail party and politely excuse yourself, Horsham-Brathwaite said: “Sometimes that’s the most graceful way to do it, is just don’t feed into it. And the person learns that you’re not somebody to have that conversation with.”

  1. If you want to help, don’t dismiss the complaints.

For some workers, complaining is a part of their creative process. As baker and self-proclaimed complainer Claire Saffitz previously told HuffPost, “It helps me get the feelings out and it makes me better able to do something that feels really hard.”

For team members like this, one solution may be to structure complaining time on meeting agendas, so that grumbles and objections can be expressed without taking over whole conversations. Horsham-Brathwaite said the purpose of this is “to get it out, get it on the table, not to solve it, but then to move to more generative conversation.”

In other cases, people may be complaining not to vent, but to get advice on legitimate grievances like pay inequity, toxic bosses and racial injustice. If your goal is to help your colleague with the complaint, ask them questions so you can understand the source of the grievance and make your feedback helpful. In a scenario in which the complainer dislikes their boss, for example, Tall said your feedback could include giving them options for what they can do about it, such as connecting them with people who have worked with that boss in the past.

Horsham-Brathwaite said to keep in mind that our identity informs our experience, and to not dismiss outright why some people are complaining when other co-workers are not. It helps to ask yourself, “What’s going on with me that may lead me to respond in the way that I’m responding to this complaint? What is going on with the other person and our environment, and is my initial reaction most helpful to this situation?” she said.

For people whose complaints could be resolved if they had more information, Tall said you can validate their feelings and “share some of the piece that might be missing, information-wise … Oftentimes, even if people don’t agree with it, they’ll feel better simply knowing … the rationale behind it.”
