Tom Brady Calls It Quits… For Good
Tom Brady announced his official retirement in a video posted to social media Wednesday morning and confirmed he would not be returning again. “I’ll get to the point right away: I’m retiring for good,” he told the camera. “I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning, I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first.” He joked that athletes only get “one super emotional retirement essay,” which he admittedly “used” up last year. “Thank you, guys, so much to every single one of you for supporting me, my family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors,” he continued. Gisele Bündchen wished her ex-husband nothing but the best following his announcement. “Wishing you only wonderful things in this new chapter of your life,” she commented beneath his Instagram video Wednesday morning. It’s no surprise that the she would support his decision to retire, because last year the two had an “epic fight” over his decision to unretire from the NFL. “They had agreed he would retire to focus on the family, then he changed his mind.” They were unable to work out their differences, and confirmed in October 2022 that they had not only filed for divorce but had already finalized it after 13 years of marriage.

Prince Of Darkness Retires
Ozzy Osbourne announced in a statement posted to social media early Wednesday that a spinal injury four years ago and subsequent surgeries have made him incapable of traveling. “Never would have imagined that my touring days would have ended this way,” his wrote in his emotional announcement. “I am honestly humbled by the way you’ve all patiently held onto your tickets for all this time, but in all good conscience,” the British rocker continued, “I have now come to the realization that I’m not physically capable of doing my upcoming European/UK tour dates, as I know I couldn’t deal with the travel required.” He acknowledged his “singing voice is fine,” his physical health has taken a toll as he also has been battling Parkinson’s disease since 2019.

Dr. Phil Show Coming To An End
“Dr. Phil” is coming to an end after more than two decades on the air. Phillip McGraw announced to Variety on Tuesday that his daytime show will wrap up this spring after 21 seasons. “I have been blessed with over 25 wonderful years in daytime television,” he told the outlet. “With this show, we have helped thousands of guests and millions of viewers through everything from addiction and marriage to mental wellness and raising children. This has been an incredible chapter of my life and career, but while I’m moving on from daytime, there is so much more I wish to do.” McGraw announced the news on Tuesday. However, CBS Media Ventures claimed Dr. Phil won’t be off the air for long. In a statement, the company announced that McGraw “plans to announce a strategic prime-time partnership, scheduled for an early 2024 launch.” McGraw’s departure marks the end of an era for daytime television, following other big stars such as Ellen Degeneres, Wendy Williams and Oprah Winfrey — who gave Dr.Phil his start in the ’90s.

Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Nominees
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the nominees for its Class of 2023. Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, The Spinners, A Tribe Called Quest, The White Stripes and Warren Zevon are nominated for induction this year. Crow, Elliott, Joy Division/New Order, Lauper, Michael, Nelson, The White Stripes and Zevon are first-time nominees. Five artists will be selected by fan vote to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. Fans can vote for their favorite artists online or at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland through April 28. This year’s inductees will be announced in May, with the induction ceremony to take place in the fall.

Budweiser has debuted its Super Bowl LVII commercial. “Six Degrees of Budweiser” is the brand’s interpretation of the concept that everyone can be traced by just six degrees of separation. Narrated by Kevin Bacon, the commercial follows six individuals and their journeys across the country. “The thing about Super Bowl ads is that you have :30s to get people to feel something – to laugh, to cry, to be inspired. I loved bringing back the six degrees concept for this year’s Super Bowl because at its core, the concept has always been about connection. I was especially drawn to the ending, when a Budweiser is handed to the camera and I say ‘This Bud’s For You.’ I think this ad is going to stick with people,” said Kevin Bacon. Fancy cat! Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson walked the red carpet with his feline costar Seagol, who showed up to a special screening of their new movie, A Man Called Otto, wearing a black tie. While the fluffy furball certainly looked adorable, director Marc Forster joked that keeping track of the cat was by far the “toughest” challenge they faced during filming. “Sometimes Seagol just left set and walked off,” said Marc. “[Filming] Smeagol was much harder than the child stars, or anything else.”

Missing Monkeys Found
A pair of emperor tamarin monkeys, missing from the Dallas Zoo, have been found inside of a closet in an abandoned home. Police say they are searching for a man they believe may have stolen the animals. The tamarins were discovered Tuesday evening after investigators received a tip that the monkeys could be inside of a vacant house about 15 miles away in Lancaster, Texas, according to the Dallas Police Department. “Dallas Police, with the help of the Lancaster Police Department, located the two missing tamarin monkeys from the Dallas Zoo at an abandoned home in Lancaster,” the Dallas Police Department tweeted showing a photo of one of the monkeys inside of the closet. “The monkeys have been returned to the zoo.” “On Monday Morning (January 30), Dallas Zoo alerted the Dallas Police Department after the animal care team discovered two of our emperor tamarin moneys were missing. It was clear the habitat has been intentionally compromised,” read a post on the Dallas Zoo’s Facebook page. See the pic HERE.

Fire At The Fire Station
Firefighters in suburban Atlanta returned from a call Sunday to find their own breakfast was in flames. The Times of Gainesville reports that a Hall County fire crew accidentally left the stove on when they left the station to respond to a house fire on Sunday morning. Other firefighters returned to the Flowery Branch station to find smoke and a small fire. Fire officials say the stove’s fire suppression system put out the blaze while firefighters tried to grab a fire extinguisher. The stove was lightly damaged, while no one was injured.

Florida Man Takes A Bite Out Of A Snake
A Florida man has been arrested for allegedly biting the head off a pet python in the middle of a domestic dispute, police said. Kevin Justin Mayorga, 22, is accused of sinking his teeth into the snake after he got into an argument with a woman in a Cutler Bay apartment early Monday, NBC Miami reported. Cops encountered the decapitated python after they responded to reports of the domestic incident just after 5:30 a.m. The officers reported hearing a man and woman screaming inside the apartment before the female shouted for police to “just kick the door in.” Mayorga subsequently blocked officers from entering and briefly held the woman against her will, police said. An officer tried to use a Taser on Mayorga after he refused orders to come out with his hands up, but was unable to subdue him. He is facing charges of animal cruelty with intent to kill, false imprisonment and resisting arrest. Mayorga is being held on a $15,000 bond.

6 Ways to Land a Job With Little-to-No Experience

- Change How You Look at Postings
The first bit of advice we heard over and over was that job seekers should change the way they look at job postings no matter their work experience. Does this mean using different sites or methods of exploring job opportunities to get your foot in the door or even snag that assistant position?
Not exactly. According to career coach Kyle Elliott, it’s more of a change in mindset and attitude.
“Know that the job posting is a wish list,” says Elliot. “You do not have to have all of the qualifications listed in the job posting. Instead, focus on the experience, knowledge, and skills you do have that align with the job posting.” In addition to highlighting the skills you have on your cover letter and resume, Elliot also suggests avoiding the time-old mistake he often sees as a career coach. You can still get a job with no experience but you don’t need to continually point out your lack of experience. After all, you are trying to get a job with no experience. “Consider instead how you can strategically market your non-work experience on your resume. If you’ve started a side hustle, launched a business, or pursued relevant extracurricular activities, you may wish to include them in your career marketing collateral,” says Elliott.
- Speak Their Language
While keeping things positive is important when it comes to job application success, you’ll also want to get in the habit of mirroring a company’s language on your application. Are they looking for a team player with a good worth ethic? Talk about that employee of the month award or that you had zero sick days last year. “Speak the language of your target company,” says Elliott. “Use the job posting as a recipe card to write your resume, LinkedIn profile, and other career documents.”
For example, he says, if you’re targeting a customer success role and previously worked in restaurant service, focus on how you successfully dealt with customers. Explain how you were routinely able to persuade customers to order an appetizer and A dessert to make more money for both you and the restaurant. Practice translating the story of your previous job experience into something relatable your prospective employer can appreciate. This is even more impressive if you are going after an entry level job. “While an experience or accomplishment may seem unrelated on the surface, nearly every story can be translated,” says Elliott about the effort to get a job.
- Work Backwards to Show How You Fit
To expand on this last point, “working backwards” is a great strategy for writing a resume or application for a specific job, especially if it’s one you feel underqualified for. It’s important that you show the ways you will make up for this be it work ethic, education or attitude. “Your role as a job seeker is to connect the dots between your experience and the target role,” says Elliott. “This makes the hiring manager’s job easier when they’re reviewing your job history.” Be sure you’re capitalizing on experiences that match what your employer is looking for, but also remember to leave off anything that’s irrelevant. This will weaken your application and torpedo your chances for job interviews. For example, if you spent a summer picking berries and this doesn’t have a strong tie to the job posting, this might be one of those things you cut. However, if you can show how you gained soft skills — communication with colleagues and maybe customers — then you make your experiences more relevant. The same could be said for volunteer work which brings in no money but plenty of on-the-job education including problem solving skills, plus time management and team building experiences. By selectively including experiences in your efforts to get a job, you’re not only flaunting your skills as a qualified employee, but also conveying your understanding of the role. Companies want to know they’re hiring someone who understands what they need, which is what you prove by using their posting as a blueprint for your application.
- Highlight Motivation on Cover Letter
Another great way to get an employer siked about your application is by highlighting your motivation.
If you love the work a company is doing or their mission aligns with your values and goals, you should include this in your application.
“Convey a deeper understanding of the company and more particularly, the industry or sector it’s operating within to show your personal motivation to move into the industry,” suggests networking expert and author J. Kelly Hoey. This is more than saying something generic about your interest, says Hoey. “Tell the story of why you’re committed to entering the industry, as your ‘why’ reveals that you’re more than yet another applicant grasping for any job opening.”
- Remember: Quality Over Quantity
The Internet makes it easy to get caught in the race of applying to as many jobs as you possibly can. You can copy-and-paste a slightly tweaked cover letter and resume dozens of times for dozens of postings in the span of an hour. But somewhere in the rush, you may find the quality of your applications start to slide, or even that you’re inadvertently applying to jobs you really don’t want.
This is where it helps to keep a simple “quality over quantity” mantra in mind. “Focus on quality over quantity when applying to roles,” says Elliott. “Rather than applying to all of the open roles at a company, select a few key roles that you are well qualified for.” Not only will being selective help you come off as a more serious candidate to employers, but it will also ensure you’re able to bring your A-game to every application.
- Grow Your Network
The time spent searching for your next job might feel long and unproductive. But keep this in mind as you hunt for jobs and wait for the job offers to roll in: As you apply for jobs and get job interviews, you are growing a professional network. Every recruiter, hiring manager and prospective co-worker that you connect with are now part of your network.
“Have patience and make it part of your job application routine to stay in contact with every person who helps you along the way,” says Hoey. “By doing so, you’ll have mentors to turn to when you land the job, plus you’ll stay top of mind with those closest to the job market you’re seeking to enter.”
You never know when new opportunities will present themselves. Go the extra mile to have positive interactions with everyone you encounter on your job search.
