Nick Cage Out As Joe Exotic

Following the success of the highly improbable Netflix documentary series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” in 2020, Nicolas Cage was tapped for an eight-part dramatization of the life of the series’ subject, Joseph Maldonado-Passage, better known as Joe Exotic.  Cage was an obvious choice to take on the flamboyant former Oklahoma zookeeper, who is currently serving time behind bars for his part in orchestrating a failed murder-for-hire plot against his rival, Big Cat Rescue CEO Carole Baskin. However, speaking to Variety, he implied that Amazon Studios is scrapping the project largely because the hype surrounding “Tiger King” has mostly passed. There’s already another “Tiger King” project in the works at Peacock starring Kate McKinnon and John Cameron Mitchell as Baskin and Maldonado-Passage respectively. He was photographed for the first time in full Joe Exotic attire during a PDA-filled scene in front of a pet shop in Brisbane on Sunday.

Legend And Teigen Made Trip To ER

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend took a trip to the emergency room earlier this month.  The two were spotted on July 1 at Lucca’s Hospital in Tuscany and entered the ER with bodyguards.  The reason for the visit was unclear. Reps for the two did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.  The Cravings creator wore her air up in a bun with a grey blanket or shawl draped over her shoulders. Legend wore a plain white t-shirt and black pants.  While the reason for the hospital visit is unknown, the two seem to be unphased, as they’ve both posted on social media, including sharing photos from their Italian getaway.  The pair’s trip to Italy comes after Teigen has been dealing with the fallout over accusations of cyberbullying.

Kanye and Irina Shayk Lay Low

Sources say that Kanye West asked Irina Shayk to go to Paris for a couture show with him, but she turned him down.  “She likes him as a friend, but doesn’t want a relationship with him,” says our source, explaining that the stunner said no to the trip in order to avoid the headlines.  “She doesn’t want the association that they are dating, which is what would have run in the press if she showed up [in Paris with him],” the source continued. “It would have been another month of news saying that they are dating.”  The pair were first spotted together in Provence, France, in June to celebrate West’s 44th birthday, drumming up a flurry of headlines that they were an item.  The last time they were seen together was disembarking from a jet in the US after returning from the France trip.

Loki Renewed

Disney+ has renewed Marvel television series Loki for a second season.  The renewal was announced mid-way through the end credits for Loki’s Season 1 finale, when the anti-hero’s case file is branded with the stamp: “Loki will return in season 2.”  Starring Tom Hiddleston, Loki is set in a Marvel Cinematic Universe adjacent world, in which the God of Mischief is a fish-out-of-water when he lands in trouble with the bureaucratic TVA (Time Variance Authority) after absconding with the Tesseract.  Hiddleston is joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, and Richard E. Grant. Kate Herron directs Loki, and Michael Waldron is head writer.

Harmon’s a Marked Man At “NCIS”!-(Globe)

In Hollywood, the show must go on, so everyone’s replaceable-even “NCIS” headliner Mark Harmon!  “We take it year by year with Mark, we’d love to have him as long as he’d like to be here,” says CBS head honcho Kelly Kahl.  “Even in this past season, he might have been light, so we’re happy to work around his schedule.”  But network suits are hedging their bets by hiring Gary Cole, 64, in a series overhaul in case Mark, 69, completely disembarks!  Gary’s “expected to help fill the void left by Harmon’s reduced on-screen presence next season,” when the kingpin’s appearances are cut down to “a handful of episodes,” according to an industry source.

Hospital Sees Baby Boom

A Texas hospital that averages about 16 deliveries a day said it experienced a pair of miniature baby booms, with 107 babies born in a total 91 hours.  Andrews Women’s Hospital at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center in Fort Worth said the first boom started June 24, when 52 babies were born in a 47-hour time period.  The next boom, which started just a few days later on June 28, had 55 babies born in just 44 hours.  “While Andrews Women’s Hospital is known as a high-volume delivery hospital, the influx in births was considered rare and exceptional,” Baylor Scott and White Health said in a news release.  “The hospital averages about 16 deliveries per day, and welcomed nearly 6,000 babies in 2020, including 100 sets of twins and two sets of triplets.”

You Can Now Get Haircuts On Sundays In NY

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation Tuesday to get rid of an “archaic” law that banned barbers from working on Sundays.  Cuomo announced Tuesday that the new law, which takes effect immediately, does away with a state law that made it a misdemeanor for a barber to cut hair or provide a shave to a customer on a Sunday. “An archaic law that made it a misdemeanor to cut hair on Sundays has been shaved from the books,” Cuomo tweeted. Though rarely enforced, the law was shear madness — and we’re not feeling blue to see it go. It’s not splitting hairs to say that barbers should be able to work any day they want.”  Multiple barbers working in the state said they had no idea that such a law ever was on the books.  “Yeah, I am surprised. We’ve never been open on Sunday, but several people are. I had no idea it was ever a law, but I’m glad we never broke it,” Connie Johnston, owner of The Sportsman’s Barber Shop in Watertown, told WWNY-TV.
*********That was a close shave!!!

A New York restaurant broke its tenth Guinness World Record with its latest menu item: a plate of French fries that costs $200.  Guinness announced Serendipity3, a restaurant on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, created the world’s most expensive French fries to coincide with Tuesday’s National French Fry Day.  The dish, titled Creme de la Creme Pommes Frites, features ingredients including Chipperbeck potatoes, Dom Perignon Champagne, J. LeBlanc French Champagne Ardenne Vinegar, cage-free goose fat from France, Guerande Truffle Salt, truffle oil, Crete Senesi Pecorino Tartufello cheese, shaved black summer truffles from Italy, truffle butter, organic A2 A2 100% grass fed cream from Jersey Cows, Gruyere Truffled Swiss Raclette and a topping of 23-karat edible gold dust.  A Guinness adjudicator presented eatery officials with an official certificate in a ceremony Monday.

5 Reasons You Should Be Patient With Restaurants As They Reopen

Huffington Post

There’s a serious lack of staff.

If you’ve noticed the “Help Wanted” signs on the doors of nearly every restaurant, it should come as no surprise that the service industry is experiencing a severe lack of staff. As has been widely reported, millions of workers have left the industry over the last year, with many citing safety concerns and low pay.

Every restaurant I spoke with for this story listed this shortage as its number-one issue.

Victoria Hines, bartender at the Courtyard Marriott in Worcester, Massachusetts, says the entire hotel is stretched thin ― so thin that she is both the bar manager and the sole bartender because not enough qualified applicants are applying for the position.

“I am currently working five nights a week. People complain because the bar is closed two nights a week, but I have no one to cover if I need a day off,” Hines said.

In an effort to end labor shortages throughout the hotel, management is offering a higher hourly rate, an employee referral bonus and a sign-on bonus.

Your favorite drinks and foods might not be available.

In Los Angeles, Grant Smillie, the executive director of Botanical Group, says holdups in the supply chain are a major issue for his restaurants E.P. & L.P. and Strings of Life.

“‘It’s on backorder’ seems to be the new catchphrase of 2021,” Smillie said. He ordered and paid for stemware for E.P. & L.P. on April 23, but it has yet to arrive, and he said there is no timeline for when it will be delivered.

A chicken wing shortage made headlines in recent weeks, but Botanical Group is experiencing a different product shortage. “Good luck getting anything from the big Champagne houses or tequila brands in significant quantities, as there are supply deficiencies across the board,” Smillie said. “We’re definitely making daily substitutions from a brand perspective, and the workload of ensuring menus are correct is frustrating. Additionally, proteins are skyrocketing, if you can even get them,” he added.

Every member of the staff is likely overworked and exhausted.

Working in the restaurant industry is especially stressful and tiring right now. Sean, a bartender in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle who wishes to omit his last name at the request of his managers, asks guests to be patient with the entire staff.

“We want you to leave our restaurant happy. The unfortunate reality is we’re all overworked,” he said.

He cites hiring reliable workers who want to stay in the industry as a big problem. “Unfortunately, a lot of co-workers and myself feel trapped in this job, having to pay rent and bills. So a lot are looking for other professions where they don’t have these added stresses. We’ve gone through two kitchen managers in two months, and today we fired someone for showing up to work drunk for four weeks in a row. We couldn’t let him go until today because we just needed bodies in the kitchen,” Sean said.

When it comes to COVID-19 regulations for restaurants, he wants people to call ahead of time if they’re unsure of the rules. “Front-of-house workers are tasked with the enforcement of COVID guidelines, but not a single front-of-house person asked for that job or is even compensated for doing it,” he said. “I can’t change the rules of the restaurant, nor will I bend them.”

Safety is still on the staff’s mind.

While most of the country has fully reopened, many restaurant workers have not had the time or resources to process the stress and trauma they’ve endured throughout the pandemic.

Michael Clement, chef de cuisine at New World Bistro in Albany, New York, says getting back to work is a welcome reprieve, but the thought of another potential shutdown looms in his mind as business levels are still down from a year ago.

The safety and health of essential workers have been a critical point of discussion for over a year, and many employees are still dealing with it. “We’re doing our best to keep our employees safe by requiring masks in the restaurant for approximately two weeks after the CDC [and] state government had said that they were not required,” Clement said.

Management has stepped in to encourage all employees to get vaccinated and assist them with finding appointments. They’re also assisting staff in how to handle guests who are unwilling to wear masks. “Customers by and large seemed to return to being more demanding and less understanding of the fact that things were still kind of scary for a lot of us,” Clement said.

They’re happy to see your smiling face.

“We have all been looking forward to restrictions being lifted. And I will say that being able to serve guests at the bar, wait on larger groups and seeing guests laugh, eat, drink and socialize together again has been wonderful,” said Chamron Brown, bartender and server at 10 West Restaurant and Bar in Cicero, Indiana.  She said that throughout the pandemic, her customers have been kind and generous. “Most guests have continued to be patient, engaging and appreciative.”
