Live PD To Return
Live PD host Dan Abrams says the show will return to the air. He spoke out Tuesday on Twitter after A&E pulled new episodes of the series in the wake of George Floyd’s death. “To all of you asking whether #LivePD coming back… The answer is yes. All of us associated with the show are as committed to it as ever,” Abrams said. “We are still discussing some specifics but I want to assure the #LivePDNation that we are not abandoning you.” A&E pulled last weekend’s episodes of Live PD amid ongoing protests over Floyd’s death. Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died May 25 in Minneapolis, Minn., while being restrained by a police officer who knelt on his neck. “Out of respect for the families of George Floyd and others who have lost their lives, in consultation with the departments we follow, and in consideration for the safety of all involved, we have made the decision not to broadcast Live PD this weekend,” A&E said in a statement. A&E had ordered 160 new episodes of Live PD in May, prior to Floyd’s death. Other networks have revised their programming in the wake of Floyd’s death. Paramount Network announced Tuesday that it is cancelling its long-running reality series Cops.

William Shatner is coping just fine with his divorce. He and his fourth wife of 18 years, Elizabeth Martin, finalized their split earlier this year. “Nothing makes me sad at this age,” he told U.K.’s Mirror on Tuesday. “It’s all good here. I wish everyone well.” The “Star Trek” icon had been with the 61-year-old horse trainer since 2001, until news broke that he had filed for divorce four days after her brother died. However, the outlet noted the couple had been separated since February of last year. Shatner has since kept busy with his work. Before the coronavirus pandemic, he filmed the History Channel series “The UnXplained,” which explores strange phenomena. AMC Opening Up In July
Movie theaters across the country are preparing to reopen after being shuttered for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the experience won’t be quite the same for audiences. AMC Theaters, the world’s largest theater operator, said Tuesday that it expects to have 97-98% of its theaters worldwide reopened by mid-July. The National Association of Theater Owners, the trade group that represents exhibitors, expects some 90-95% of cinemas around the world will be opened by then as well. However, both cautioned that new restrictions will be put in place to promote social distancing. A lot is still “fluid,” as AMC Entertainment’s chief executive, Adam Aron, said in a call Tuesday with investors. But provided flare-ups of the coronavirus don’t unmake plans, the industry is gearing up for a dramatic resumption of widespread business just in time for Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet.” The Warner Bros. thriller, the latest from arguably Hollywood’s most passionate defender of the big-screen experience, is slated for release July 17. It’s still unclear when “Tenet” will be released, but it is still expected to be the first blockbuster that moviegoers will return to following months in lockdown. Aron said that AMC’s conversations as recently as Monday with Warner Bros. and Disney, which has “Mulan” slated for July 24, have been reassuring.

Coachella Officially Cancelled
Coachella 2020 has reportedly been canceled. After rescheduling its April dates to October due to the coronavirus lockdown, the end has finally come for this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Billboard reports. This week, the parent company for Goldenvoice, AEG, laid off 15% of its staffers, furloughed more than 100 people and issued pay cuts, according to an internal memo acquired by Billboard. The memo also said it’s “clear” live events such as Coachella will not resume until 2021. “When we are able to reopen, it will take time until we see our fans, partners and sponsors fully return,” says AEG CEO Dan Beckerman in the memo. The festival — held annually in Indio, California — was set to be headlined by Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean over two weekends in April. The lineup also included Megan Thee Stallion, Thom Yorke, 21 Savage and Lana Del Rey, among others.

Lionel Richie Musical In The Works
Walt Disney Studios is developing a new movie musical based on Lionel Richie’s song catalog. The live-action project is tentatively titled after his 1983 song, All Night Long, and will utilize some of his greatest hits. According to the report, the artist pitched the concept to the studio, where it was accepted in January and the artist is on board as the film’s producer alongside his manager Bruce Eskowitz as well as Calvary Media’s Dana Brunetti and Matt Del Piano. Screenwriter Pete Chiarelli (Crazy Rich Asians, The Proposal) has reportedly been tapped to write the script. Richie confirmed the news via Twitter. “Big things in the works!,” he wrote, sharing a link to the Variety piece. The film is expected to be more aligned with movies like Mama Mia, which is inspired by ABBA’s songs, rather than biopic-oriented, such as the Freddie Mercury-focused Bohemian Rhapsody and Elton John-based Rocketman.

A LeBron James rookie card stunned observers by selling online for $57,100 — nearly $50,000 more than it sold for just four years earlier. The 2003-04 Topps Chrome card, which features James mid-jump while taking a shot during his rookie season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, sold on eBay Tuesday night. The card, which has a perfect-10 score from collectibles-rating company Beckett, sold for just $7,150 four years earlier. Analysts said they were surprised by the card’s swift and steep increase in value. “I love reporting on cards and memorabilia, but sometimes I just have to step back and think ‘how real could this be?'” tweeted Darren Rovell of betting website Action Network.

Longest Alliteration Record
A New Hampshire rapper set a record for the world’s longest alliteration when he published a book of poetry that features 340 alliterative words. Chris Elliot, formerly known as FriiStyle Gahspol and currently recording as The Real Frii, published a poetry book in May titled The Epic Poem: Mastermind. The book has now been recognized as the world’s longest alliteration by Record Holders Republic — Registry of Official World Records. The organization said Frii’s 724-word book contains “340 alliterative words with the consonant sound of ‘M’ that do not repeat and are separated by 3 syllables or less.” David R. Adamovich, president of the U.S. branch of RHR, verified the record. He called the poetry feat “very impressive.”

Cat Gets Water Rescued
A water rescue team came to the assistance of a cat spotted stranded on a vanishing piece of land next to a high river wall in London. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, a British water rescue charity, said the Chiswick Lifeboat team rushed into action Sunday afternoon when a black cat was spotted stranded on a piece of land that was slowly being consumed by the rising water level of the River Thames. The RNLI said crews often conduct rescues on dogs that are “usually glad to see their human rescuers,” but the cat displayed “very different behavior.” “This cat greeted the crew by snarling and spitting, and then tried to climb the sheer wall. He then wriggled out of the clutches of RNLI crewman Mark Pusey and started swimming away,” the group said.

Kid Gets Hole In One
A 5-year-old boy’s golf skills are being celebrated after he hit a hole-in-one at a popular course in Florida. William Kelly, 5, sank a hole-in-one on Hole 13 at The Bridges at Springtree Golf Club in Sunrise during his golf clinic Friday. “I hit a 7 iron,” William told WPLG-TV. “It took two bounces off the fairway and one bounce off the green, and then it hit the flag and then it went in.” Mike Freglette, William’s golf coach, praised the boy’s skills. “It was an unbelievable moment,” Freglette said. “Some people play golf their whole lives and never get a hole-in-one. He’s playing as good as a third- (or) fourth-grader. He’s got some natural talent.” William’s feat came to the attention of the Sunrise government, which hailed the “impressive” young golfer in a Facebook post. See the video HERE.

Boat Crashes Into Beached Whale
A humpback whale off the New Jersey coast landed on a boat, tossing two men overboard and causing the vessel to become beached. Witnesses said the whale was breaching Monday off Seaside Park when it collided with the boat, sending two men into the water. The men, who were not injured, were able to climb back onto the boat before it beached, the witnesses said. Police said beachgoers helped the men secure the boat and retrieve dropped items from the water. Witnesses said the whale did not appear injured and continued to breach for some time after the crash.

5 Actions You Should Take Now If You Think You’ll Lose Your Job

- Do be aware that IT security can monitor what you back up. Don’t take any information that’s proprietary.
Through Google’s Takeout service, you can download and export everything in your G Suite like Docs and Sheets, but be aware that your employer may notice what you are doing. G Suite Business and Enterprise allows administrators of audit logs to see who has renamed, created, edited, deleted, uploaded, downloaded or shared a Google Drive file, for example.
This same type of surveillance goes for Slack, a popular productivity software used by office teams. On company-owned Slacks, administrators can have access to private direct messages.
If you are wondering what you can or can’t save, Grama recommends reading your employee handbook. In these handbooks ― or in your employment contract ― you may see guidance outlining what information is proprietary, or confidential data related to your company’s “businesses, strategies, operations, financial affairs, organizational matters, personnel matters, budgets, business plans,” as Lawinsider defines it.
If exporting contacts is allowed, Gmail and Outlook each have detailed steps. For Gmail, you can go to Google Contacts, which keeps track of your frequent email contacts, and select “export.” It will save the contacts you selected into a .CSV spreadsheet.
On Gmail, you just need to select “export” to get started on compiling your contact list quickly.
For Outlook on a PC, go to “File,” select “Open & Export,” and it will guide you through the options of saving your contacts as a .CSV file on your computer.
- Do clear out personal passwords and cached words.
Web browsers and social media applications like Facebook can save passwords and cached words to create shortcuts, but it’s a good practice to log out of those applications and clear cached words if you think a layoff is approaching. “You don’t accidentally want the IT team knowing the password or being able to get into any personal applications,” Grama said.
Grama also recommended requiring two-factor authentication on your devices to protect your personal data more even if the password is cached.
If you are suddenly laid off and have very little time before you lose access to your work devices, Grama said you can still ask your employer to get your private stuff back with language like, “Hey, I have some incidental personal material stored on the device, pictures and private calendar appointments. Can an IT person sit down with me while I recover these personal items?”
- Don’t erase work files.
While you should remove anything personal that you wouldn’t want your company to have access to, like personal contacts and emails, Alison Green, founder of the workplace advice website Ask A Manager, said that “personal” means things that are unconnected to your job or your company.
Employees should not erase work files. “That can be considered a big deal and can affect your professional reputation if it looks like attempted sabotage,” Green said.
- Do make sure your contact information is up to date.
If your layoff is immediate, you want to make it as easy as possible for the company to reach you regarding taxes and benefits information.
One practical step recommended by Ashley Watkins, a job search coach with corporate recruiting experience, is to make sure the address where your employer sends W-2 forms and financial and benefits information is correct.
“That’s how you have access to a lot of your financial information,” Watkins said. “If it’s going to your old address, you could catch hell trying to find out what you need to change.”
- Do save anything related to your performance and ask for testimonials now.
Watkins said that her job search clients often regretted not grabbing documents related to their performance while they still could.
That’s why her top recommendation is to save evaluations and “anything that speaks to your performance” if you only have time to back up one thing. If you have more time, Watkins recommends checking to make sure everything related to your job search, like your LinkedIn account and access to job boards, is tied to your personal email address.
Green recommends saving performance reviews, work samples and contact info for people you’ll want to be able to reach in the future, as long as this action is not forbidden by company policy.
One discreet way to build those connections with your co-workers is through LinkedIn, so that you have a way to contact them outside of work. Remember that you may not be the only one who wants to network if your job feels unstable. “Chances are if you’re thinking about a layoff, so are your co-workers,” Watkins said.
Customer and client testimonials could also be useful to start gathering now, and there’s a way to ask without making it clear that you are preparing for a layoff. Watkins said professionals can ask for testimonials with language like “‘As I’m preparing for my next performance review’ ― or whatever may be the case ― ‘I’d like to have to have some real-life documentation of what people say about me,’” Watkins said.
