Queen’s Platinum Jubilee In The Works
The British royal family unveiled plans Wednesday for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee next year, which will mark her 70th year as Britain’s monarch. Buckingham Palace said the four-day celebration will be held from now thru June 2-5, 2022, and will include a concert on June 4 with the “the world’s biggest entertainment stars.” The Platinum Jubilee Pageant will be held in front of Buckingham Palace on the final day. Buckingham Palace noted that Queen Elizabeth II will be the only British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. She was honored with a Diamond Jubilee in 2012, a Golden Jubilee in 2002 and a Silver Jubilee in 1977. The queen, who ascended to the British throne in 1952, will be 96 during the event. A parade on the first day of the jubilee, the traditional Trooping the Color, will include more than 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians. It has been held annually for more than 260 years to mark the official birthday of the British sovereign. Also on the first day, beacons will be lit nationwide and capital cities of commonwealth nations will light torches for the first time to honor the queen’s reign. On June 3, a Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

It’s over for Matthew Perry and his fiancée, Molly Hurwitz. He confirmed the news to People magazine. “Sometimes things just don’t work out and this is one of them,” he said in a statement. “I wish Molly the best.” According to the outlet, the actor and Hurwitz, 29, began dating in 2018 and became engaged in November 2020. “I decided to get engaged,” Perry told People at the time. “Luckily, I happened to be dating the greatest woman on the face of the planet at this time.” Perry hadn’t shared a photo of Hurwitz on social media until December 2020 when he posted two photos of Hurwitz wearing his limited-edition apparel collection inspired by “Friends” to support COVID-19 relief. “You don’t have to pose this way while wearing the shirt, but please feel free,” he captioned the first photo of the literary manager. Khloé Kardashian is threatening to sue the woman accusing Tristan Thompson of fathering her child for defamation. She fired off a cease-and-desist to Kimberly Alexander after she allegedly faked DMs from Kardashian. The legal threat sent by Kardashian’s attorney Lynda Goldman and obtained by Page Six reads, “You put words in her mouth that she never said and that she wouldn’t say. You faked the whole thing. And you have now publicly admitted it.” The letter goes on to state that even “after admitting” she faked the DMs, Alexander “continued to make outrageous defamatory smears about Khloé, harassing her and trying to drag her into the paternity drama that you have persisted in contriving notwithstanding that a DNA test from one of the nation’s top labs confirmed that Mr. Thompson is not the father of your child.” Goldman’s letter is emphatic in distancing her from Thompson’s paternity drama, noting Alexander’s son was 7 years old when she first made the claim of Thompson being his father last year, so there’s no possibility that he was “conceived during Khloé’s and Tristan’s relationship.”

Taylor Swift Breaks Vinyl Record
The vinyl edition of Taylor Swift’s album “Evermore” shattered the US record for largest vinyl album sales in a single week, according to Billboard. It sold more than 40,000 copies just three days after its May 28 release — already surpassing the biggest single-week sales record since MRC Data began tracking in 1991. The title had previously been held by Jack White’s “Lazaretto,” which sold 40,000 copies in the week after it launched in June 2014. It’s likely sales of “Evermore,” Swift’s ninth studio album, will continue to soar through the end of the tracking week on Thursday. Sales of vinyl LPs and 45s grew 23 percent in 2020, from the year prior, according to data released by the Recording Industry Association of America in February. It also marked the single-largest year for US vinyl album sales in MRC Data history, with 27.54 million copies sold, Billboard reported.

Remains Found Near Harry And Meghan’s Estate
Human remains believed to date back more than 10,000 years were found yards away from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s California mansion. The “very old” bones were uncovered during landscaping construction last week on a road next to the royal’s $15 million Montecito complex, Santa Barbara sheriffs officials told the Daily Mail. The remains appeared to belong to a “young adult,” officials say. Preliminary findings from a forensic anthropologist brought in to assist investigators indicate the bones could be from the Chumash people, who lived in the area for nearly 11,000 years, the report said. “Until we have an official opinion from the forensic anthropologist, we’re not going to be saying one way or the other,” a law enforcement spokesman told the Mail. Police reportedly are talking with the local Native American commission to discuss what to do if the bones are confirmed to belong to an indigenous person.

The May 30th finale of “Mare of Easttown” drew four million viewers across Memorial Day Weekend, with nearly three million viewers Sunday night on all HBO platforms, marking a series high for the WarnerMedia premium cabler’s linear and digital outlets. The series stars Kate Winslet from creator Brad Ingelsby (“The Way Back”) with all episodes directed by Craig Zobel, who previously worked with HBO on “The Leftovers” and “Westworld.” The seventh episode of the limited series focused on the fictitious but realistic family of Easttown in Pennsylvania, titled “Sacrament,” set a record as the most-watched episode of an HBO original series on the network’s streaming platform during its first 24 hours of availability. Teen Shoves Bear To Save Her Dogs
A security camera at a California home was recording when a 17-year-old girl shoved a mother bear off a brick wall to rescue her family’s dogs. The video recorded by a security camera at Hailey Morinico’s family’s home in Bradbury, in the San Gabriel Valley, shows three dogs in the enclosed yard becoming agitated and barking at a mother bear and her cubs perched on a brick wall dividing the back yard from a neighbor’s property. The mother bear swats at the dogs as they approach to bark at the wild animals, and Morinico is then seen running into the yard, shoving the bear off the wall, and gathering up the dogs to bring them inside. She said she rushed outside when she heard the dogs barking, initially thinking another dog must have approached the yard. “I run to see what they’re barking at and it’s not a dog — it’s a bear,” she told KTLA-TV. Morinico said she panicked when she saw the dangerous situation the dogs were in. “I see the bear, it’s grabbing my dog, Valentina, and I have to run over there. She’s a baby,” the teenager said. “And the first thing I think to do is push the bear. And somehow it worked.” See the video HERE.

Diver Finds Ring At The Bottom Of A Lake
A free diver received a wedding invite after finding an engagement ring that fell off a woman’s finger to the bottom of Britain’s largest lake. Rebecca Chaukria’s ring slipped off her finger Monday as a photographer was taking pictures of her and her fiancé, Viki Patel, on a jetty on Lake Windermere. Patel told CNN the water was “absolutely freezing” and he couldn’t see through it. The couple were next to the Langdale Chase hotel, which got in touch with free driver Angus Hosking, who rushed to the spot and dived in to recover the white gold and diamond ring. Hosking used an underwater metal detector to search for the ring and scooped it up within 20 minutes after a few false positives. Patel described Hosking as a “brilliant guy” when he came back with the ring, and thanked him repeatedly. “Now, she’s never taking it off,” Patel joked in the CNN report.

Florida Man Does It Again!
As Michael Williams drove past a gathering in the yard of an Opa-locka, Fla., home on Sunday night, police said, his 10-year-old son fired a barrage of paintballs into the crowd from inside his father’s van. It was the 10-year-old’s idea, police later said: He’d asked his dad if he would take him on a “drive by shooting” with his paintball gun, and Williams allegedly said yes. But as the paintballs peppered the crowd, at least one of the victims thought the gunshots were real. So the man pulled out his own gun and fired a single bullet at the van — wounding the young boy and sending him to the hospital. Opa-locka police later arrested Williams on a charge of child neglect with great bodily harm, the Miami Herald reported. In a police report, detectives alleged the father “acted recklessly by agreeing to conduct a drive by paintball shooting,” the newspaper reported.

6 Of The Best LinkedIn Hacks All Job Seekers Need To Know

- Quickly weed out jobs that have too many applicants with this tip.
On LinkedIn, you can see how many other applicants have already applied. Rob Cancilla, who has worked for Facebook in sales and as a strategy consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers, is currently working at recruiting firm Hunt Club. He has taken his career advice to TikTok, where he shared a quick way to focus on jobs that have just a few applicants.
Here’s what Cancilla recommends doing:
- Type “Early Applicant” in quotations into your search browser, along with the role you’re looking for. For example: “‘Early Applicant’ AND ‘Brand Designer.’” Alternatively, you can search for jobs where recruiters are actively recruiting by typing “Actively Recruiting,” along with your desired role.
- Hit search.
Cancilla told HuffPost he defines early applicants as being among the first 50 people to apply for a job. The reason you want to be early is that there is a competitive advantage to applying before recruiters start narrowing down their group of initial candidates.
“You can be a really qualified person, but if you’re late to the game and they’re not consistently checking their [hiring] funnel, you may not be getting reviewed,” Cancilla said.
- List more than your job title in your profile headline if you want to attract recruiters.
Cancilla said one of the most underutilized LinkedIn features is the headline section on a profile page. It appears below your name on LinkedIn and it is a branding opportunity to sell your career story for recruiters right away.
“It’s called a headline, but a lot of people put their title there,” he said. If you just enter your current job title, you’re missing a chance to hook a reader into why they should scroll down and learn more about your experiences.
Cancilla said the headline section is an opportunity for students who may not have a lot of job experience yet to put down their college major, their passions, or subjects they have studied. You can show off more of who you are in the headline by adding “expertise in something,” “passionate about something” or “industry knowledge in something,” Cancilla recommends.
“You could be a social media manager, but if you’re like, ‘social media manager, expertise in direct-to-consumer e-commerce companies,’ as a recruiter I’m like, ‘That’s gold. That’s exactly what my client is looking for,’” he said. “It gives you the opportunity to get my attention pretty quickly.”
- Fill out every part of your profile, because each section is an opportunity to optimize for what a hiring manager is looking for.
LinkedIn’s profile page has many sections that professionals can fill out.
Beyond headlines, LinkedIn profiles have many features professionals can fill out, such as “about,” “background” and “skills” sections. Each section is an opportunity to include relevant keywords that recruiters could be typing in their job searches. That’s why Ashley Watkins, a job search strategist with corporate recruiting experience, said her top LinkedIn hack was profile optimization.
“Think about keywords or competencies relevant to your job target. Then, include those terms in your headline, ‘about’ section, job titles, and skills section,” Watkins said. Once you combine profile optimization with networking, you will be appearing in more recruiter searches, she said.
Think of the LinkedIn profile as a space where you can add accomplishments and skills you didn’t have room for on a resume. It’s where you can put down your impact and the results you have achieved.
“For me, when I screen resumes, I build this narrative in my mind on who this candidate is based on their resume. When I see their LinkedIn, it’s like, ‘Oh wow, they do a lot more stuff than I thought,’” said Jackie Cuevas, a human resource administrator for a nonprofit who has worked as a recruiter.
- Get LinkedIn-certified in specific skills.
To enhance your LinkedIn profile page, Cuevas recommends taking LinkedIn skill quizzes to get certified in specific skills like WordPress or Google Analytics. “I 100% advocate for people to do that. You’re adding more information that helps a recruiter, someone in HR, really decide if you are a solid candidate, in addition to your resume and your LinkedIn,” she said.
To do this:
1. Go to the “Skills & Endorsements” section of your LinkedIn profile page.
2. Select “Take skill quiz.”
- Add a personalized note when you’re connecting with people on LinkedIn.
Networking with other people on LinkedIn is one key way to hear about jobs, get referrals and eventually land the job. Reaching out often starts with choosing to “connect” with the person, so that you can message them if they accept your connection.
But instead of just selecting “connect,” Cuevas recommends taking the time to add an optional personal note. She shared how on her TikTok:
To follow Cuevas’ advice:
1. Go to a professional’s profile page and choose to “connect.“
2. Select “Add a note” instead of just hitting send.
“It’s so key to include a personalized, custom message. It sounds like a lot of work, but again, you want a response from people. To get a response, the other person wants to feel like, ‘Hey this person looked at my profile and did a lot of research, I wonder why they want to connect,’” Cuevas told HuffPost.
If you’re wondering what to say in this message to a stranger, don’t just demand help; that makes networking transactional. To actually get a response, you have to be thoughtful about what you say in your first message and find a shared point of connection.
- Try using Voice Direct Messages for people you are already connected with.
Messaging professionals on LinkedIn is how you can network your way into a job. But how do you get professionals’ attention once you are connected?
Try recording a voice message, which is an option in the LinkedIn app on iOS and Android. Cancilla said if you are already connected to a professional, an audio recording is one way to separate your message from the rest that could be arriving in that person’s inbox.
“Most people aren’t using it, so I can guarantee you that you will stand out, and most likely the person will listen to it, which I think gives you that extra layer of getting someone’s attention,” he said.
Cancilla cautions that this is not a recommended form of communication for your first outreach, but once you are connected, it can add a personal touch. “You can be like, ‘Listen, I’m really excited,’ or, ‘Here’s why I wanted to connect with you.’ Hearing that personal story in 10-30 seconds is more compelling than a text,” he said.
