IT Prequel In The Works
HBO Max is working on a prequel series to the IT horror franchise. Variety and Deadline reported the project, titled Welcome to Derry, on Tuesday. “Ready to go back?” Andy Muschietti, who wrote and directed the 2017 film and its 2019 sequel, posted on Instagram, along with a screenshot of a media report about the prequel, which is set in the 1960s. Andy, his sister Barbara and Jason Fuchs came up with the new IT tale. Fuchs is writing it and the Muschiettis are attached to executive produce. The series will be the origin story of a supernatural clown that terrorizes a small Maine town. No casting has been reported yet. Stephen King penned the novel that serves as the basis for the franchise.

Bruce Willis is taking a break from acting as he battles a health diagnosis, his family revealed. He has been diagnosed with aphasia, the family announced on social media. “Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him,” the family statement read. Kelly Clarkson’s Name Change Official
Kelly Clarkson was granted a legal name change in Los Angeles Superior Court this week. Documents obtained by Fox News Digital confirm Kelly has dropped Clarkson as her last name. Her legal name is now Kelly Brianne. Brianne was the star’s middle name at birth. An attorney for Clarkson filed a petition for the name change on her behalf in a Los Angeles court in February. She previously wrote in court documents that her new name “more fully reflects who I am.” Clarkson’s name change comes just weeks after she settled her divorce from Brandon Blackstock. The “Since You’ve Been Gone” singer filed for divorce in June 2020, citing “irreconcilable differences” after roughly seven years of marriage. According to court documents, Clarkson agreed to pay Blackstock spousal support totaling $115,000 per month until Jan. 31, 2024, but those payments would end should Blackstock remarry before that date or if either party dies prior to it.

John Stamos is giving fans a glimpse of his close friendship with Taylor Hawkins in the days following the Foo Fighters drummer’s death. He tweeted Saturday — a day after Hawkins tragically died of an apparent drug overdose at age 50 while on tour in Colombia — the cryptic final text the rocker sent him. Stamos said Hawkins told him, “‘Ya We’ve yet to fully have a hang -Got a put that s–t together before we die.’” He noted, “Wise words from my friend- put that s–t together! I’m so f–king sad. Another one gone too soon.” Stamos also posted a video from Hawkins on Instagram Tuesday, in which the musician joked that he should have been the one hired as a spokesman for Geico and not Stamos. “Stamos is a good buddy of mine — he’s a good guy,” Hawkins said in the clip. “I like him a lot. He’s a great drummer. He’s a great dude — all that stuff.” He continued, “But I’m a little upset with him, actually, I’ve got to be honest with you because I was supposed to do that Geico commercial … where he flips the stick. Betty White’s home in Carmel, California, has been listed at $7.95 million after her death in December. The home, located at 2625 Ribera Road, Carmel, has four bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. Located on a 0.3-acre lot, the house is 3,621 square feet and was built in 1981. The home was built for Betty White and her husband Allen Ludden, but they only lived there for a few months before Ludden died. According to reports, the plot of land was purchased for $170,000 in 1978 by the couple. The three-story manor boasts awe-inspiring views of Monastery Beach, the Pacific Ocean and Point Lobos. “As revered as Betty White’s public image was in real life, she was a private person. Betty’s home in Carmel was her special sanctuary and it was one of her favorite places to recharge and rejuvenate,” said Nicole Truszkowski, with Sotheby’s International Realty – Carmel Brokerage.

Skeletal Remains Are Fake
Police in Texas said officers responded to a call about the discovery of “skeletal remains” near a road and arrived to find the cause of the report was “a plastic prop skeleton.” The Converse Police Department said an investigation was launched when police received “a report of skeletal remains” discovered near Farm to Market 1516 and Binz-Engleman Road. “Upon arrival, they discovered a plastic prop skeleton discarded in a field,” the department said in a Facebook post. The post said the “remains” were “removed and given a proper burial.” “Let’s all work together and discard our trash properly to keep Converse clean,” the post said. See the pics HERE.

Dog Named “Cadbury Bunny”
An Ohio therapy dog was named this year’s Cadbury Bunny after earning the most votes in the chocolate company’s annual contest. Hershey’s announced Annie Rose, a 4-year-old English goldendoodle belonging to Lori Rahn, earned the most votes in Cadbury’s online contest to find this year’s clucking Easter Bunny. Officials said Annie Rose is a therapy dog who spends time visiting nursing homes. Annie Rose bested a field of finalists that included other dogs, a cat, a llama, a horse, a hedgehog, a bearded dragon, a parrotlet and a sugar glider. The canine will now star in Cadbury’s annual Easter commercial and Rahn was awarded a $5,000 prize. Rahn thanked supporters who voted for Annie Rose in a Facebook post. “I’m so in awe of the support, love, excitement and votes you guys gave us,” Rahn wrote. See the video HERE.

Escaped Flamingos Spotted Years Later
One of two flamingos that escaped from a Kansas zoo during a storm 17 years ago has been spotted on the coast of Texas, wildlife officials said. The Coastal Fisheries division of Texas Parks and Wildlife confirmed Tuesday to The Associated Press that the African flamingo — known as No. 492 because of the number on its leg band — was captured on video shot March 10 by an environmental activist near Port Lavaca, Texas, at Rhodes Point in Cox Bay. Officials were able to make out the bird’s leg band on the video. The bird and another flamingo escaped from the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita on a stormy night in June 2005. Employees had not yet clipped the birds’ wings to prevent them from flying, which facilitated their escape. While the other flamingo was never seen again, No. 492 has been spotted several times in Wisconsin, Louisiana and Texas, sometimes with other wild flamingos. Officials said it had been a year or two since the bird was last seen in Texas. Zoo officials have never made plans to recapture No. 492, despite the sightings, saying there is no easy way to do so without disturbing other wildlife.

Florida Woman High On Deodorant
A Florida woman was charged with DUI after being pulled over while high on deodorant spray, says an affidavit filed by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. Katherine Theodore was pulled over by deputies who “noticed a stack of empty Right Guard…cans in her car”. The vehicle smelled strongly of deodorant, and Theodore, who cops say appeared impaired, first explained it away by claiming she simply liked the smell of it, the affidavit states. She later conceded that she had two drinks earlier in the day, then huffed the Right Guard after she got into her car. Theodore was arrested and released on $750 bond, according to court records.

How To Make Friends While Traveling

Be warm
Perhaps the most obvious advice when it comes to making friends is simply “be friendly.” That applies to everyday life as well as during your travels.
“Have a welcoming attitude and say hi to everyone you come across,” Dengler said. “If the person is on vacation, too, there’s a great chance they are in the mood for a conversation.”
He suggested saying hello and seeing where the conversation goes. Figure out if you have things in common. “Maybe you will be taking part in the same activities or visiting the same restaurants and bars,” Dengler said. “Asking where they are from or about other similar travels always moves the conversation along and makes everyone more comfortable. Make sure you are approachable yourself so others may consider initiating.”
Take part in group activities or tours
“Group tours and activities are a perfect way to make new friends,” Dengler said. “The activity or tour will tell you that you already have at least one thing in common with your new friends. This is a great starting point.”
When you’re exploring a new city or country, consider booking a walking or driving tour with a local company. Look for recommended tours on review sites and online marketplaces such as Tripadvisor, Yelp, Viator or Airbnb Experiences. If it’s just an afternoon outing, you might want to invite people in the group to grab a drink or meal afterward. “If you are on a resort, many times they will even have special meeting rooms or social activities specifically designed for people to mingle and make new friends,” Dengler said.
Stay at a hostel
“We have made so many friends traveling,” said Michael Lindsay of the travel content duo Michael & Matt. “Your best bet, if you are looking for connections while traveling, is to book a hostel. You are staying in a large room with multiple strangers so you’re gambling your sleep a little, but you can often find camaraderie amongst peers.” Lindsay noted that hostels tend to attract younger age groups, but plenty of older people stay at them as well. “We’ve stayed in hostels with people who had kids or even grandkids and they needed a cheap place to sleep,” he said.
Socialize with people at your hotel
Staying at a hostel isn’t the only way to leverage your accommodations to meet fellow travelers.
“We’ve also found groups of friends on cruises or even at resorts,” Lindsay said. “Since you often see the same people in those settings day after day, it is easier to strike up a conversation, see if they are fun, and if you enjoy their company, then go from there. Get dinner together, meet them out by the pool, etc.”
Even if you aren’t staying at a resort, you might find opportunities to connect with guests. In recent years, major hotel chains like Sheraton have rebranded with a focus on communal spaces that encourage socialization. “It can be really fun to get to know people and hear their life experiences while you are traveling, because they are often from another country and have unique experiences or worldviews to learn from,” Lindsay added.
Join travel social media groups
You can start the process of making travel friends when you’re still in the planning phase.
“Many groups on social media apps such as Facebook exist that allow travelers to discuss their plans in advance and coordinate a meetup,” Dengler said. “This is a great way to begin making friends before you even travel. It is also perfect for the solo traveler looking to meet new friends.”
He also noted that apps like SoloTraveller and Flip the Trip allow you to find fellow travelers near you while on vacation.
Offer to buy a round of drinks
“If you are out at a restaurant or local pub and there’s a conversation, offer to buy the next round of drinks,” Dengler said. “Nothing says friendship like buying a few drinks. Chances are, if you are on vacation, this could lead to many more drinks together.” As Lindsay noted, hotel bars and restaurants can be great places to meet fellow travelers. If you’re vibing with people, take turns buying rounds and exchange numbers so you can make plans to meet up at another restaurant, bar or attraction during your trip. (Of course, be mindful of how much you’re drinking and personal safety, especially if you’re traveling alone.)
Use friendship apps
“I suggest using a friendship app or online community,” Sniderman said. “Though they’re still up-and-coming, many people are using digital platforms and apps to make friends these days. The ‘stigma’ is disappearing, just as it did with dating apps, and people are realizing that it’s hard to make friends as an adult, let alone making friends while traveling. So why not use the tools we have to connect?”
She recommended apps such as Bumble BFF, Hey! VINA and Friender ― as well as her friend-finding Facebook community and upcoming app Kinnd. “Ultimately, I encourage you to recognize that digital friend-making is as essential and natural as online dating ― all it takes is a little openness and exploration of what’s out there,” Sniderman added. “Your new best friends and travel companions are waiting to meet you, so go find the platform that feels right for you!”
