Ellen Calling It Quits

Ellen DeGeneres is ending her talk show after 19 seasons, more than 3,000 episodes and a flurry of toxic workplace allegations.  She is calling it quits amid the claims of unkind behavior and bullying, as well as reports of a significant dip in sponsors and ratings.  “Ellen is ending when her contract is up at the end of the 2022 19th Season,” a source says.  DeGeneres herself confirmed the news to the Hollywood Reporter, saying the exit was planned — and it comes on her own terms.  “When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,” DeGeneres says.  Sources say that her slot may be filled by singer Kelly Clarkson whose own talk show airs after DeGeneres’ 3 p.m. spot.  DeGeneres said the plan to end after 19 seasons had been in place well before claims surfaced of her behavior behind the scenes.  “I was going to stop after season 16,” but pushback from “affiliates and the stations” had her settling for three more seasons, she said. “That’s been the plan all along.”

Royal Aide Leaving

The aide who accused Meghan Markle of bullying staffers is stepping down from Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Royal Foundation.   Jason Knauf, who is a Texas native, is exiting because of a “planned international relocation,” and will stay on the job until the end of year, the foundation announced in a press release on Wednesday.  Knauf signaled that the split was amicable, as he called his time with the royal family the “privilege” of his career.  “Working with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has been the privilege of my career,” he said in a statement released to Hello!. “I will always be grateful for the opportunity I have had to support their leadership in the UK and internationally.”  The royal couple said they’ll start the recruitment search for Knauf’s successor shortly.  He  made headlines in early March — just before Markle and Prince Harry’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey — when a report revealed that he had filed a complaint against the Duchess of Sussex for allegedly bullying staffers.  “I am very concerned that the Duchess was able to bully two PAs out of the household in the past year. The treatment of X* was totally unacceptable,” the HR complaint reportedly read.

Joan Rivers Haunted Penthouse For Sale

The Upper East Side penthouse that was home to the legendary Joan Rivers for more than a quarter of a century is going up for sale for $38 million.  Rivers said she encountered a belligerent ghost — is steps from 5th Ave on 62nd Street with views of Central Park and New York City.  The spectacular terraced triplex penthouse, where Rivers lived for 28 years, is perched atop a private 42-foot wide and limestone-sheathed mansion and was designed by renowned architect Horace Trumbauer in the neo-French Classic style.   It was sold after Rivers’ death in 2014 for $28 million to an unnamed member of a Middle Eastern Royal Family, who is now putting it back on the market.

Travis Barker is keeping Kourtney Kardashian close when she’s not around.  He showed off a candle from none other than Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop on Instagram Tuesday, labeled, “This Smells Like Kourtney’s Orgasm.”  It’s a custom version of Goop’s viral “This Smells Like My Orgasm” candle ($75), which was created in collaboration with Heretic following Paltrow’s internet-breaking “This Smells Like My Vagina” candle ($75).  The company’s website describes the “Orgasm” scent as a “sexy, surprising, and wildly addictive” mix of grapefruit, neroli, and ripe cassis berries blended with gunpowder tea and Turkish rose absolutes.  It’s unclear whether the NSFW candle was a gift from Kardashian to Barker, or from Paltrow to the couple after seeing their hot and heavy PDA on social media.  However, Kourtney isn’t the only Kardashian who was sent a special version of the item.

IRS Raps Ja Rule Over $3M Tax Bill-(National Enquirer)

The IRS is riled p over rapper Ja Rule and his wife, Aisha Atkins-they’re suing for what they claim is over $3 million the couple racked up in unpaid back taxes!  The hitmaker, 45, has yet to file a response in the case, but it’s not the first time he has run into tax trouble.  He was sentenced to 28 months in prison in 2011 for failing to file taxes for a number of years, and worked out a deal to pay back $1 million.  In the past, the rapper has called charges he didn’t pay enough taxes “bulls—t!”

Man Hides Drugs In His Anus

A 48-year-old Lakeland man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of cocaine on Monday morning.  Marti Martinez was found sleeping behind the wheel of a pickup truck on the side of Interstate 75, a deputy with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said.  The deputy said he opened the truck’s driver-side door and woke Martinez up. He saw a white powdery substance on Martinez’s nose and noticed a strong smell of whiskey coming from his breath.  When the deputy asked Martinez to get out of the vehicle, he forgot to put the car in park and it rolled forward. The deputy had to put the vehicle in park so Martinez could exit.  After failing multiple field sobriety tests, the deputy arrested Martinez under probable cause for driving a car under the influence of alcohol and drugs.   After being transported to the Naples Jail Center, Martinez was required to do a strip search, where the baggies were recovered by deputies. A drug test confirmed that the substance in the bags was cocaine.  A search of Martinez’s truck revealed another baggie of cocaine and a bag of marijuana.

Excluded Co-Worker Wins Big

A car dealership in the U.K. is paying the price for alleged workplace discrimination.  Hartwell Ford, a franchised dealership network that operates throughout England, reportedly lost a discrimination case to a former employee who says they were excluded from monthly team lunches.  Receptionist Malgorzata Lewicka sued the dealership over the repeated snub, which occurred after she filed a sexual discrimination complaint against her boss at Hartwell Ford’s Hemel Hempstead branch in March 2018 – where she temporarily worked for two years.  When Lewicka was transferred to the dealership’s Watford branch following her complaint, she told the judge she was excluded from team lunches that were held on the last Friday of each month. Colleagues who worked in the same office would provide lunch orders for pizza and other takeout foods to management while Lewicka was routinely skipped.  Hartwell Ford reportedly tried to defend management’s decision to exclude Lewicka by citing her part-time work schedule, which ended at 1 p.m. local time.  However, the judge for the case did not view the defense as a reasonable excuse.

A mom who hit headlines in 2019 after claiming she’d faked depression to get a $10,000 nose job has caused a stir once again after admitting she plans to live-stream her birth.  Carla Bellucci, who is currently expecting her fourth child, claims to have made $56,000 by sharing sexy pictures on her OnlyFans account.  The 39-year-old from Hitchin, Herts, has continued bringing home the bacon on the content subscription service after learning her family would be growing, uploading photos of her baby bump for those with a ‘pregnancy fetish’.  And she’s recently told The Daily Star that she’s even willing to live-stream herself giving birth for those willing to pay good money.  Carla said: “I have been offered $14,000 from one of my OnlyFans to live-stream my birth – and you know what, why not?  “I am going to give fans the chance to live-stream my birth for $14,000.  The influencer and model went on to say that she knows she’ll probably be sent hateful messages over her decision, but won’t let internet trolls get to her.

6 Questions To Ask Yourself Before Booking An International Trip

Am I fully vaccinated?

“Make sure you are fully vaccinated before booking any international travel,” said Konrad Waliszewski, co-founder and CEO of the travel app Tripscout. “That’s the best way to make sure you are traveling ethically and responsibly, without putting locals and fellow travelers at risk.”

Many countries are only allowing international visitors who are fully vaccinated, so your vaccine status may affect your ability to even take that trip abroad. It’s also important to consider whether you will be returning home to anyone who is unvaccinated and at high risk of getting severely sick from COVID-19.

“Being vaccinated and taking precautions can reduce but not eliminate risk of contracting COVID with travel,” said Dr. Sachin Nagrani, a physician and medical director for the telemedicine and house call provider Heal. “Consider the necessity for travel and alternative trips before making plans, and have a safe and pleasant summer.”

 

What are the local entry requirements?

“Every country has their own travel rules and restrictions,” said budget travel expert Lindsay Myers. “You need to be educated before you travel. You do not want to be stranded at the airport because they will not let you past immigration.”

Some destinations require international visitors to be vaccinated, so you’ll want to make sure you have what’s necessary to prove your status. Don’t lose that vaccine card.

“COVID passports have become a political issue in the U.S., but in many countries they are simply accepted as a sensible means by which to get the industry moving again,” said Alan Fyall, the interim chair for the tourism, events and attractions department at the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management. And vaccine passports aren’t the whole story.

“Some countries may require a negative COVID-19 test before entry, including returning to the U.S.,” said Dr. Andrés Henao, an internal medicine physician, infectious disease specialist, and director of the UCHealth Travel Clinic. “Visit a travel clinic before international travel for more comprehensive prevention recommendations.”

Stay up to date with the requirements for visiting your preferred destination by checking the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention travelers’ health page. The rules are always subject to change, so the site is frequently adjusted with the latest information for each country. The proof of a negative test requirement may come with specifications about time windows, types of tests and providers.

 

Can I visit the attractions I want to see?

“You want to know if attractions that you’re most interested in are open and when,” said Erika Richter, senior director of communications at the American Society of Travel Advisors. “Many have adjusted hours and capacities, including restaurants. Booking ahead and pre-planning is required rather than an afterthought.”

Richter urged travelers to work with a professional travel adviser, who may be able to leverage their relationships as reservation options in popular destinations become scarce. The availability of attractions also may indicate when it’s best to wait before booking that trip.

“Just because precautions are loosening in the U.S. does not mean that this is the case in other countries, in fact far from it,” Fyall said, noting that the reopening process in many destinations is quite slow and methodical.

“It is essential that travelers check out the local conditions very carefully, what are the COVID guidelines, what can they actually do when visiting, what is open, what constraints are there on gathering in groups, are the primary tourist attractions actually open,” Fyall added. “Travelers should always ask many questions before traveling but in 2021, questions on all aspects of the trip are more important than ever otherwise you may find yourself at a destination that is ‘open’ but in essence not open for tourists!”

 

What’s the current COVID situation at my destination?

“I think the first thing people should do when booking a trip abroad is to research the relevant COVID statistics of wherever they’re thinking about going,” said Randall Kaplan, founder of the travel startup Sandee and author of “Bliss: Beaches.” “What are the number of current COVID infections there, are the number of COVID cases decreasing, what are their vaccination rates?”

Additionally, you’ll want to consider the health care infrastructure. If the COVID situation is not under control and hospitals are overwhelmed, it seems irresponsible to travel to that country and risk needing to use one of the scarce hospital beds. Many things can happen during travel other than COVID-19 that require hospitalization abroad. Do your research and stay up to date as the coronavirus conditions evolve at your destination.

 

Where will I get a COVID test?

The U.S. still requires all air passengers, including fully vaccinated citizens, to have proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken three days before returning to the country.

“If you travel internationally from the U.S., you need to get a COVID test no more than three days before you return, and you’re required to show a negative COVID test before boarding a flight there ― all of which means you have some non-vacation things to do while you’re away,” Kaplan noted.

Be sure to research how you will get your COVID test in your destination before your return flight. It’s possible they’re offered at your accommodations.

“Many resorts in Mexico are offering on-site COVID tests complimentary to their guests to make it simpler for Americans to come, take a vacation and then go back to the U.S. without having to figure out the Mexican health care system on their own and find a test,” said Scott Keyes, author of “Take More Vacations” and founder of Scott’s Cheap Flights.

 

Can I quarantine after returning?

Per CDC guidelines, vaccinated travelers returning are no longer required to self-quarantine in the U.S., but those who are unvaccinated must stay home and isolate for at least a week. Additionally, both groups are urged to take a test three to five days after traveling.

Beyond CDC recommendations, you may face requirements from workplaces or schools. This is particularly true for children who are not yet vaccinated.

“If you have children, whether or not they travel with you, you also need to consider whether their schools allow them to attend classes if you or anybody in your family has traveled outside the U.S.,” Kaplan said.
