Jason Momoa was Broke After Game Of Thrones

Jason Momoa says he was “completely in debt” following his run on Game of Thrones.  He recalled in the December issue of InStyle how he struggled professionally and financially after playing Khal Drogo on the HBO series.  He portrayed Khal Drogo in the first season of Game of Thrones, which aired in 2011. His character was killed off the show before the series reached its fever pitch of popularity.  In the InStyle cover story, Momoa said he struggled for several years after Game of Thrones. Momoa is married to actress Lisa Bonet and has two children, daughter Lola, 13, and son Nakoa-Wolf, 11, with the Cosby Show alum.  “I mean, we were starving after Game of Thrones,” Momoa said. “I couldn’t get work. It’s very challenging when you have babies and you’re completely in debt.”  Momoa’s situation improved after he was cast as Aquaman in Justice League, which opened in 2017. He has since reprised the character in a standalone film, Aquaman (2018), and will return in Aquaman 2.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Shaping Up

The casts of the shuttered Broadway shows Hamilton, Mean Girls, Jagged Little Pill and Ain’t Too Proud will perform as part of this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade program.  New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced in September that this year’s parade would be held virtually — with a shortened route and few participants and spectators allowed — due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The New York Times said Wednesday the performances will be filmed in various locations in the next few weeks and will air during NBC’s broadcast of the stripped-down parade on the morning of Nov. 26.  Broadway theaters have been closed since March and are not expected to re-open until next spring because of the pandemic.  The CBS Thanksgiving Celebration special will be hosted the same morning by Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier and Keltie Knight.
*********We’ll be socially distancing… on the west coast!!

Kate Winslet Breaks Tom Cruise’s Record

Kate Winslet shattered a film record set by Tom Cruise after she held her breath underwater for seven minutes while filming a scene for “Avatar 2.”   She is re-teaming with director James Cameron for a follow-up to his massively successful 2009 film. Her role sent her back to the water, where she underwent extensive training and ended up breaking a record that Entertainment Tonight notes was previously set by Cruise in “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation” by one minute.  “It was brilliant and I was very proud of myself and I’ll probably never be able to do it again,” Winslet told the outlet. “That came at the end of four weeks worth of quite intense training and it was in the dive tank, it was in the training tank. But I loved it.”  She went somewhat viral in late October after the film’s official Twitter account shared a photo showing her in a dive tank filming an underwater scene. However, because she’s not really on social media, Winslet had no idea that her record-setting shoot was even public knowledge.
*********Forget that… what was she wearing??

Ellen’s Staff Downsized

A portion of Ellen DeGeneres’ staff was let go on Tuesday after WarnerMedia conducted a round of layoffs.  About 17 staffers of Ellen Digital Ventures were affected. Ellen Digital Ventures is the digital arm of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Buzzfeed News reported.   An employee claimed to the outlet that DeGeneres addressed the reductions in a call with her staff that day, in which the daytime talk show host said she was “heartbroken” by the cuts.  She maintained positivity and looked toward the future when addressing her staff, according to the report. She told remaining employees: “I obviously as am heartbroken as everybody, but we have to know that this is all for the good of EDV, and we need to keep this going because we have such a great team and we believe in y’all, and we will get through this just like we’ve gotten through all kinds of other things.   “Know that we believe in you and I know this is hard for y’all to hear, and we are here for you,” she said.  The cuts were reportedly a part of a restructuring taking place at WarnerMedia.

The Queen May Never See Archie!

Prince Charles has been forced to stay away from baby Archie for nearly a year at this point, and given the Queen’s current age the prince fears his mother might not get to see her great-grandchild ever again.  Royal expert Phil Dampier spoke to New Idea regarding the distance wedged in between the prince and his grandson and he was even quoted telling the publication, “Like the Queen, Charles is very sad not to see Archie, who is growing up so fast. Charles has been able to see Archie online, of course, but it’s not the same as hugging your grandson.”  “I know Charles is concerned that the Queen and Prince Philip may never see Archie again, and that would be devastating for them.” At the end of the day, Mr Dampier believes “The big question really is whether Meghan will come – and bring Archie.”  With how close the extended royal family is, not keeping Archie in touch with them will inevitably hurt the household to no end. Even an insider touched upon the blatant separation Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are attempting to cement and they were quoted saying, “Harry is toying with the idea of going to see him [Prince Charles]. Enough water has passed under the bridge now, and he misses his dad. But Meghan has made it fairly clear she has no interest in going along for the trip, which means Archie stays too.”
*********Meghan is such a warm, family-oriented person!! Not!!
*******Archie is 1… Prince Phillip is 99. So they’ll probably see each other at Archie’s high school graduation!!

Thompson Tossed Out ‘Smelly’ Boobs-(Globe)

No going back for Lea Thompson.  Her busty “Back to the Future Part II” keepsakes are now but a foul memory!  The 59-year-old actress admits swiping the fake boobs she used for the iconic 1989 flick “because it’s actually a cast of my actual breasts inside.”  Unfortunately, the star’s stinky souvenirs got the best of her, she adds, confessing:  “They got really smelly because they were latex and I threw them away.”

Musical Muses-(Us Weekly)

Prior to the pandemic, Kelsea Ballerini and hubby Morgan Evans never penned music together.  But during quarantine, the country star, 27, had a change of heart.  “It’s been so much fun,” she says of writing with the Aussie musician, 35.  “That’s definitely been a good silver lining.”

Harry’s Fishy Past-(Star)

While you were out!  A Harry Styles superfan missed the guest of a lifetime when the “Sign of the Times” singer’s car broke down near her house.  As 13-year-old Theodora went about her business elsewhere, she had no idea her father was back home serving the 26-year-old star a cup of tea as he waited for roadside assistance.  “I’m devastated that we missed each other,” Harry wrote in a note since posted to Instagram.  “Looking forward to meeting you soon.”  The former One Directioner left the teen-whose location is a mystery-with the sage advice to “treat people with kindness.”  Something he did himself when he fed Theodora’s goldfish!

Defying Gravity-(Life & Style)

One Last thing:  Diane Lane-(People)

The actress, 55, stars in the new thriller Let Him Go.

Last moment of gratitude-

I went to the Hayden Planetarium in New York and watched the show.  I haven’t sat in those seats since my daughter [Eleanor, 27] was small, and it healed me.  It gave me a reminder of my place in the order of things.

Last thing I learned about myself-

I must have creative expression somewhere.  So I’m painting a mural on my fence.  I’m hoping it doesn’t look like some hybrid between hippie and preschool art.

Last indulgence-

The Lebanese restaurant is right by the paint store, and I got some baklava.  I literally ate it at midnight.  Life is short.  If you can’t enjoy the baklava, really, is there anything left?

Monkey Fished Out Of Water

A group of friends out fishing in Brazil ended up acting as a taxi service for a monkey that was stranded away from shore.  The group of men said they were camping and fishing in Tres Vendas, Rio Grande do Sul, when they spotted a monkey swimming nearby and noticed the primate was showing signs of fatigue and could be in danger of drowning.  A video of the encounter shows the men extend an oar to the monkey, which holds onto the offered support as the boat ferries it to shore.  The footage shows the men help the monkey reach a tree at the shoreline, where it climbs to safety.  The men said the animal is believed to be an endangered bugio, also known as a howler monkey.

Japanese Mayor Is “Jo Baiden”

The mayor of a Japanese town said he was initially confused as to why his name was trending on social media after the U.S. presidential election, until family members pointed out the characters in his name also spell out “Jo Baiden.”  Mayor Yutaka Umeda of Yamato, Kumamoto prefecture, said the Chinese kanji characters that spell out his name can also be pronounced as “Jo Baiden,” a name strikingly similar to that of President-elect Joe Biden.  “Although there are differences in the positions of a U.S. presidential candidate and the mayor of Yamato here in the center of Kyushu, our passion is the same. We continue working to fulfill our duty to ensure the happiness and spiritual richness of our residents,” Umeda was quoted as saying by Japanese newspaper The Mainichi.  Umeda said he is considering ways of using his newfound Internet fame to bring extra attention to Yamato, a town of 14,418 people.  See the video HERE.

Man Grows Christmas Trees In Potholes

A Massachusetts man fed up with local potholes decided to take matters into his own hands by planting tiny Christmas trees in the holes on a busy road.  Kevin Martin said his plan began Saturday night, when he was on his way to pick up dinner in North Attleborough when he hit a series of potholes on Route 1 and ended up with all four of his tires flattened.  He said he had previously complained to the town and state governments about the potholes, but no action was taken.  “I needed to make sure that it got fixed one way or another. I know that I’m not the only person who’s gotten flat tires from that area,” he told WJAR-TV.  Martin said he went to Home Depot and bought some planting soil and some small Christmas trees. He planted the trees in the potholes on his way to work Monday morning.  Martin said he wanted to force officials into taking action to fill the potholes. His gambit appears to have worked, as the trees were removed and the potholes filled Monday afternoon.

A LIST FOR THURSDAY

7 Rituals To End The Workday When You Work From Home

Huffington Post

  1. Make a list of any outstanding tasks.

Make a list of any remaining tasks as you wrap up your workday. Chances are, they can wait until tomorrow.

When working from home, it’s easy to fall into the trap of trying to finish one more thing before you finally power down for the night. That one small task soon bleeds into another and next thing you know, it’s almost 8 p.m. and you haven’t eaten dinner yet. To remedy this, finish only what you absolutely need to get done in a given day. Then jot down any lingering tasks so you won’t forget about them and address them in the morning with fresh eyes.

“To help limit the desire to keep going until you are completely burned out for the night, try making a list at the end of your workday to help get you started tomorrow,” said Jesse Kahn, director at the Gender & Sexuality Therapy Center in New York City. “What are the things that need wrapping up that you weren’t able to get to today? What are things you want to remember to check on? This can help ease the worry over things not getting done or falling through the cracks, as well as signal to you that this is the end of work time.”

  1. Put away your computer and other work stuff.

When your devices are within reach, it can be tempting to log back on after work hours. Instead, store your laptop, work phone and any papers or files where you can’t see them. Out of sight, out of mind.

“For example, you could be watching your favorite TV show and mindlessly grab your phone or laptop to answer emails,” DiVento said. “Or, as you’re sitting down to eat, you might be tempted to respond to a ping from a colleague, despite wanting to be present for your family while at the dinner table.”

Creating some physical distance from your work materials will allow you to more fully wind down and recharge.

“Clearer boundaries in this way also helps reduce work-related stress, which in turn has positive effects on our mental and physical health,” DiVento added.

  1. Take a walk around the block.

Step away from your designated work area and get some fresh air. When Lee Chambers, an environmental psychologist and well-being consultant in the U.K., leaves for his evening stroll, he’s literally and metaphorically shutting the door on his professional responsibilities for the night.

“I look around my neighborhood and feel the wind hitting my face, my feet pushing off the ground, the decreasing light shining in my eyes,” he said. “With all my senses ignited and a clearer mind, I unlock my door, walking into my home, and ask my children and wife how their day was. This anchors me psychologically into family time, which lasts until I have put the children in bed.”

  1. Break a sweat.

Moving your body after work can help you release job-related stress.

Instead of exercising in the morning, you could save your workout for this transition time, said Katharine Agostino, owner of Silicon Valley Executive Coaching.

“Many clients are utilizing Peloton or other online fitness solutions from home and find that working out from 5 to 6 p.m. helps them destress from the day and approach the evening with renewed energy,” she said.

Naz Beheshti — owner of Prananaz Corporate Wellness Solutions — rolls out her yoga mat for some post-workday movement.

“I like to combine yoga, pilates and barre for anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes while listening to my favorite playlist,” she said. “No matter what type of day I’ve had, movement combined with music is the quickest and surest way to elevate my mood.”

  1. Call or FaceTime a loved one.

Seeing a friend or relative’s face after a long day of work, albeit virtually, can change your whole mood and help take your mind off work matters. If you’re not up for more screen time, a phone call works too — just hearing their voice can be comforting.

“While you may be on several video conferences a day and screen time may be the last thing you or your eyes want more of, the opportunity to discuss personal or humorous topics with someone you’re close to rather than talking business can go a long way,” said Symonne Kennedy, psychotherapist at The Gender & Sexuality Therapy Center. “Sometimes a video call with friends or family at the end of the day can provide just the humanizing, regenerative and connective jolt we need to put the workday behind us.”

  1. Light a candle and play some music.

After work, put your laptop away and light your favorite candle to create a soothing ambience.

Help your mind shift from the go-go-go work mode to the slower pace of the evening hours by creating a spa-like atmosphere.

“Light a candle and play some music for a period of ‘destressing time’ right after work,” Kahn said. “You can sit and do a few deep-breathing exercises, stretch a bit, drink a big glass of water, dance around to the music, take a shower or bath, or any other ritual that feels meaningful to you. Ultimately, it can be an opportunity to get any pent-up tension or stress out before shifting onto the rest of your day.”

  1. Practice deep breathing or meditation.

Setting aside some time at the end of the day — even if it’s just a few minutes — can change your state of mind.

“I take a pause and meditate,” Beheshti said. “This is my second meditation of the day since I start each morning with my [transcendental meditation] practice for 20 minutes. Meditation calms and energizes me simultaneously. At the end of the workday, it helps me let go of the day, unwind, and become present in the moment.”

If you’re not into mediation, taking some deep, intentional breaths can be just as powerful. Try a technique called “box breathing”: Breathe in for four seconds, hold the air in your lungs for four seconds, breathe out for four seconds, and then hold your lungs empty for four seconds. Do this for five minutes.
