William Shatner Launches To Space

William Shatner went boldly into space Wednesday morning and returned safely with three crew members aboard a Blue Origin capsule launched from West Texas.  He becomes the oldest person ever to reach space at 90. The New Shepard rocket that carried the crew lifted off into a mostly sunny sky at 10:50 a.m. EDT from the company’s Launch Site One about 160 miles east of El Paso.  The capsule touched down 11 minutes later after reaching space and descending back to the Texas dessert.  “That was unlike anything you described, unlike anything I’ve experienced,” Shatner was heard saying on a live broadcast during descent.  He appeared overcome with emotion after the flight as he thanked Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, who pinned astronaut wings on the four crew members. Shatner said viewing Earth’s atmosphere made him feel it was fragile — a “sliver” of precious air.  “Everyone needs to see … the blue down there, and the black up there. It was so moving to me,” Shatner said.  “What you have given me is the most profound experience,” he told Bezos. “I’m so emotional about what just happened.”  See the video HERE.

Adele’s New Album Gets Release Date

Adele will return with a new album in November.  She will release her fourth studio album, 30, on Nov. 19.  She shared the news and new details about the album in a post Wednesday on Instagram, calling the project her “ride or die.” “I was certainly nowhere near where I’d hoped to be when I first started it nearly 3 years ago. Quite the opposite actually,” the star wrote. “I rely on routine and consistency to feel safe, I always have. And yet there I was knowingly — willingly even, throwing myself into a maze of absolute mess and inner turmoil!”  “I’ve learned a lot of blistering home truths about myself along the way. I’ve shed many layers but also wrapped myself in new ones. Discovered genuinely useful and wholesome mentalities to lead with, and I feel like I’ve finally found my feeling again,” she said. “I’d go as far as to say that I’ve never felt more peaceful in my life.”  Adele confirmed her split from her husband, Simon Konecki, in April 2019 after two years of marriage. The pair have an 8-year-old son together, Angelo.
******That’s just in time for Christmas!!! What a coincidence!!!
******Her voice is a little tinny since she lost all that weight!!

Former View Co-Host Has PTSD

Candace Cameron Bure is opening up about the challenges that came from starring on “The View.”  She revealed on a recent podcast that her two-season stint on the ABC talk show “took its toll” on her.  Speaking on the “Behind the Table” podcast, she said thinking about the “stress and anxiety” she felt during that time still makes her uneasy.  “I actually have a pit in my stomach right now,” Bure shared via People. “There was only one type of stress that I’ve ever felt in my life, that came from that show. And I [have] PTSD, like, I can feel it. It was so difficult, and to manage that emotional stress was very, very hard.”  Bure was a co-host for the national talk show from 2015-16 and appeared on seasons 19 and 20. Among those that she shared co-hosting duties with were Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Raven-Symoné and more. She recalled feeling “pressure” to represent conservative Americans on the show but that she often felt stuck “just trying to understand and have a general grasp of topics that I didn’t want to talk about or didn’t care about.”  Bure said it got to the point where she would cry before tapings. At the end of the day, though, she said she walked away with no regrets.  “I feel like there were so many wonderful takeaways from the show. And as difficult as that job was, I’m very, very grateful for it,” she added.

Wendy Williams Continues Hiatus

Wendy Williams will continue her hiatus from her talk show.  She will not return to host “The Wendy Williams Show” next Monday, her production company, Debmar-Mercury, announced via the show’s Instagram.  The show, however, will go on and will start “airing originals” on Oct. 18, “with an exciting lineup of guest hosts and panels to be announced shortly,” the announcement read.  Williams, 57, was initially scheduled to start her new season on Sept. 20, but pushed it back several times due to “ongoing health issues” including testing positive for a breakthrough case of COVID-19. She was later reportedly taken to the hospital and for a mental health evaluation.  The production company did not mention the alleged mental health check in its statement, but revealed that Williams “continues to be under medical supervision and meets with her medical team on a daily basis.”  “She is making progress, but is experiencing serious complications as a direct result of Graves’ Disease and her thyroid condition,” the statement continued. “It has been determined that more time is needed before she is able to return to her live hosting duties.”  Staff returned to the office this week after working from home due to Williams’ ongoing absence, we’re told. Sources told Page Six that the show has also been reaching out to past guests “to see who’s around next week.”

Sharon Osbourne Slams Former Bosses

Sharon Osbourne has slammed her former bosses on “The Talk,” calling them “weak women” with no “backbone” for not defending her against the allegations of racism that led to her departure from the show.  She dragged the head of CBS Daytime Amy Reisenbach and showrunners Heather Gray and Kristin Matthews during a new interview on SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show,” saying that they went from her longtime friends to destroying her career.  “I think that the showrunners were doing what Amy had told them to do. Weak, weak women, that didn’t have a backbone to turn around and say, ‘This is suicidal. We can’t do this,’” Osbourne said. “And to let it go after the break, so it was 20 minutes on national TV of bashing me. Twenty minutes … They just — it blindsided me.”  Osbourne said she worked with the showrunners for more than a decade and was taken aback when they turned on her so quickly.  “They were friends of mine, especially Kristin Matthews. And I told them that they’ve destroyed me,” she said. “I told them I will never be able to get over this. It’s like, once you have that seed put on you, that you are a racist, it never goes away. I told them they destroyed me.”  Osbourne recalled being labeled a “racist” after defending Piers Morgan’s harsh criticism of Meghan Markle.  “And at the time, I did have on my socials, people complaining that I shouldn’t have supported Piers and that made me look like a racist, but I don’t think that anybody complained to the FCC,” Osbourne said. “I don’t think that I was out of order by dealing with it the way that I did, because I was talking to a friend of 11 years.  “I was talking to a woman that I’ve traveled with, that I’ve worked with, that I sat beside for 11, well, it’s actually, she was there for 10 seasons. So for 10 seasons, I had sat next to this woman. She was a family friend. And then boom, she puts me on the hot seat talking about racism, and she knows my history. She knows me. She knows I’m not a racist.”
********Relax, Sharon, everyone’s forgotten about it!! We’re destroying other people now!!!

Stones Drop Brown Sugar From Setlist

The Rolling Stones retired one of their most popular rock songs due to lyrics that depict the horrors of slavery.  They have not played the 1971 hit “Brown Sugar” on their current tour and said the blues classic has been removed from their setlist.  “You picked up on that, huh?,” Keith Richards responded to the LA Times when asked if the Stones had cut the second-most-performed tune in their catalog amid a climate of heightened cultural sensitivity.  “I don’t know. I’m trying to figure out with the sisters quite where the beef is. Didn’t they understand this was a song about the horrors of slavery? But they’re trying to bury it.”  The first verse of the hit song depicts slaves being sold and beaten in Louisiana, with references to a “slaver” who whips “women just around midnight.”  The famous chorus portrays a non-consensual sex encounter between the violent master and a young female slave, while possibly also alluding to heroin use.  In the next verse, the song describes the abuse suffered by slaves on a plantation. Mick Jagger ends the tune by singing, “How come you taste so good … just like a black girl should.”  “We’ve played ‘Brown Sugar’ every night since 1970,” Richards told the newspaper. “So sometimes you think, ‘We’ll take that one out for now and see how it goes.’ We might put it back in.”  The Stones have played the song live 1,136 times, second to only “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” according to setlist.fm.

Dog Rescued From Iron Door

Emergency responders in Hungary came to the rescue of a family dog that ended up with its head stuck through a hole in an iron door.  Hungary’s National Directorate General for Disaster Management shared a video on Facebook showing the scene that unfolded when firefighters were summoned to a home in the village of Veresegyhaz, Pest County.  The firefighters found a dog named Fules had gotten its head stuck through a small hole in the door.  The rescuers used a plate cutter and other specialized technical equipment to cut through the door and free the pooch.  See the video HERE.

Meteorite Crashes Onto Woman’s Pillow

A British Columbia woman received an unusual rude awakening when a meteorite crashed through her roof and landed on her pillow.  Ruth Hamilton said she was asleep at her home when she became aware of her dog barking in the house.  “The next thing was just a huge explosion and debris all over my face,” Hamilton told CBC News.  Hamilton said she got out of bed and turned on the lights, revealing something had punched a hole in her ceiling.  “I didn’t know what else to do, so I called 911,” she said. “Talking to the operator, she was asking me all kinds of questions, and at that point, I rolled back one of the two pillows I’d been sleeping on and in between them was the meteorite.”  Hamilton said the melon-sized space rock had landed just inches away from her head.  “It’s certainly a meteorite,” said Peter Brown, a professor at a university’s physics and astronomy department. “Everything about the story was consistent with a meteorite fall, and the fact that this bright fireball had occurred basically right at the same time made it a pretty overwhelming case.”
******”Is that meteorite in your bed, or are you just happy to see me???”

Florida Man Locks Family In Tennis Court

A Florida man is facing charges after he allegedly locked his neighbor and his neighbor’s 5-year-old daughter in a tennis facility at an apartment complex in Kendall.  Deputies said the man was upset after seeing a father watching over his 5-year-old daughter while she was riding a scooter on the tennis courts.  James Olsen is now facing charges of false imprisonment after allegedly telling the father-daughter duo that scooter riding was not allowed there before locking them in, an incident report states.  The victim, reportedly, refused to leave saying he wasn’t breaking any rules before Olsen responded by using a padlock to lock the two inside, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.  Olsen allegedly said he was the president of the building which investigators quickly determined was not true after speaking to a security guard.  NBC News reports Olsen was once the president but is not anymore. However, the 63-year-old still had the keys to the tennis court.

Woman Hacks Flight Computer

A Florida woman is facing a string of charges after she allegedly hacked into the computer system at Melbourne Flight Training.  Authorities first knew something was wrong on Jan 12, 2020, when the CEO of MFT, Derek Fallon, logged into the Flight Training computer and noticed multiple things were off. He said the make/model/tail numbers had been deleted for 12 airplanes. Aircrafts that had been flagged as having maintenance issues had been “cleared.”  An affidavit states, “meaning aircraft which may have been unsafe to fly were purposely made ‘airworthy.’”  Fallon also found inspection limitations had been deleted.  He called the owner of the software and was told there was no systemwide problem. Fallon instructed all flights to be grounded until the information could be restored.  “Between the time the data was altered and fixed, it was a situation that could have endangered human life,” Fallon wrote in a sworn affidavit.  Fallon identified two suspects: A man who had been the Director of Maintenance for MFT before being fired in November of 2019, and his daughter, Lauren Lide, 26, who resigned from her job as Flight Operations Manager the same day her father was fired.  Investigators found that a login belonging to the current flight operations manager was used to make the dangerous changes in the flight software. However, the current flight operations manager signed an affidavit stating he did not modify/delete aircraft information.  Investigators determined that the IP address used to log into the software belonged to Lauren Lide’s father. Lide’s father stated he “didn’t have a clue” why his computer had been used to access the MFT computer.  Pressed on if he knew anyone that would want to sabotage the computer information, he said, “I’m kinda concerned about my daughter at this point.”
********Hey, throw that daughter right under the bus!!!

5 Easy Ways To Teach Kids About Energy Conservation

HUFFINGTON POST

  1. Teach them to turn off lights and screens

One of the easiest — and yes, most obvious — ways to teach kids to conserve energy is reminding them to switch off the lights when they leave a room and power down family devices (such as the TV, computer, iPad, etc.) when they’re not in use.

“Preschoolers can’t wrap their minds around global warming, but they’re old enough to understand turning the lights out when they leave the room,” said Amity Hook-Sopko, executive editor of Green Child Magazine, which has a helpful Energy Conservation checklist.

The same goes for not letting the water run while they brush their teeth, she said. You’re training them to remember that whatever they turn on must also be turned off.

  1. Help kids understand it’s not the end of the world if they’re slightly cold or hot

No, you should absolutely not make your child uncomfortable. But you can definitely save energy by keeping your thermostat low in the winter, especially when you’re sleeping or not at home, according to the U.S Department of Energy. It’s also wasteful to crank the air conditioner every time it’s hot. (Plus, there’s emerging evidence that people’s ability to cope with heat is being altered by our constant reliance on air conditioners.)

Of course, your child probably doesn’t control the temperature in your home, particularly if they’re young. But it’s a good idea to get them used to finding other ways to cope with a slightly hot or chilly day.

“The HVAC uses the most energy in your home, so encouraging kids not to crank the thermostat up or down is a major way to conserve energy,” Hook-Sopko said. “Get them in the habit of grabbing a sweater or blanket if they’re cool, and dressing lightly or turning on the ceiling fan if they’re hot.”

  1. Start a family shower competition

Showers and baths can waste a significant amount of water and energy, Hook-Sopko said.

One way to cut back is by installing WaterSense-labeled shower heads, which meet certain requirements for water efficiency, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. It estimates that the average family could save around 2,700 gallons per year by installing them.

But it’s also helpful to get kids in the habit of taking shorter showers — and make sure it’s a universal rule that applies to you, too.

“Start a family challenge for everyone to cut two minutes off of their showers,” Hook-Sopko said.

  1. Ask them to do their homework next to a window

If your child has homework, encourage them to do it next to a window with natural light instead of using a lamp, if possible, Green Child’s checklist suggests. (Of course, this won’t work in the evenings or during the colder fall and winter months.)

Again, you’re teaching them that simple daily choices can make a difference. Besides, taking in natural light comes with health benefits, including increased vitamin D exposure.

In general, teaching kids to appreciate the world around them by spending time in nature or even just soaking up the view outside their window can be a powerful way to foster environmental stewardship.

“Grounding children in the natural world is way more important than teaching them that big tragedies are looming on the horizon,” David Sobel, an environmental educator and faculty member at Antioch University in New Hampshire, previously told HuffPost.

  1. Model environmental activism

Yes, teaching children to conserve energy is very much rooted in daily habits, such as turning the lights off and making sure you’re using energy-efficient showers, bulbs and other devices at home.

But it’s not just about the individual roles we play. For things to get better, policies have to change. So teaching your child about what it means to be an environmental activist — whatever that means in your household — is ultimately a way to help lower energy use on a broader scale.

“Older children aren’t [ignorant] to corruption and consumerism, and they can understand the roles big corporations and government regulation (or lack thereof) play in the energy crisis,” Sopko said. “They can also examine how their habits may play a part in the production demand that can lead to environmental challenges.”

So when they’re older — perhaps in their tween or teen years — show them that they can do things like contact their state or local officials and garner support for environmental causes in their neighborhoods and schools. Also, show them what you’re doing — from the habits you keep at home to the steps you’re taking to become more engaged on these issues yourself.
