Tom Brady Says He’s Distracted

Tom Brady got the win on Sunday, but he doesn’t seem to be scoring points with his wife, Gisele Bündchen, after un-retiring from the NFL.  He was visibly upset on the field, barking at teammates, smashing a tablet, and fuming during the game.  In his weekly “Let’s Go! with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray” podcast, Brady said that during the 20-10 win he was not able to handle his emotions.  Typically stoic and disciplined when speaking to the press, Brady revealed, “At the same time remaining poised is really important, too, which I didn’t do a very good job of.”  “I’ve gotta be really mindful of that going forward and getting my emotions in a good place so it allows me to be the best player I can be. I think there’s an importance where you can become too overly emotional, which I definitely think I was yesterday.”  When pressed about what was making him so emotional, Brady answered, “I just think there’s a very high standard that we’ve all set… And I think part of that’s a challenge as you become an older athlete. The frustration of not being perfect builds up where normally when you’re a younger player, you just feel like winning’s good enough. And I think as you get older and you have a degree of success, you think perfection is what it should be. And unfortunately that’s not the reality.”
*********Aw, just say it: “My wife’s bein’ a bitch!!!”
*******It may be over… he just called Adam Levine and said, “Do you know any hot chicks???”

Harrison Ford Statue Won’t Happen In His Hometown

A Chicago suburb decided against a pitch this week to build a statue of actor Harrison Ford, who attended high school in the city.  City Council members said they were concerned over the cost of a statue, that the pitch had come from outside of the city and whether Ford, who was reportedly bullied when he was a teenager, would appreciate the recognition, according to the Chicago Tribune.  Ford told GQ in 2017 that others kids used to regularly push him down a hill starting when he was in sixth grade.  “So I was the new kid, and I was kind of short and geeky, I guess,” he said. “I’d come up the hill, and then they pushed me down the hill, and I’d come up the hill, and if there was enough time they’d push me down the hill again.”  Surprisingly, he said it didn’t really bother him – at least to think about it now – adding that he doesn’t always have much “emotional attachment” anymore to events from his childhood. He said he focused more at the time on girls having “sympathy” for him over the bullying. In light of those sentiments, Park Ridge Mayor Marty Maloney said this week, “Based on some things I’ve heard just through Park Ridge lore about Harrison Ford and leaving Park Ridge, I would just want to make sure he was comfortable with what we’re doing if we’re taking that step on this.”
*********He did pretty well. Most guys who are bullied like that wind up wasting their lives as radio personalities!!

Idris Elba Is Still In The Running For New James Bond

The James Bond producers are searching for a new 007, and it appears Idris Elba could still be in the running.  Talk of Elba being the next James Bond have been going on for years, and he’s even seemingly denied wanting to take on the role. Now, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have responded to the actor’s hesitance.  “He’s great,” Wilson told Variety, and Broccoli quickly adds, “We love Idris.”  “The thing is, it’s going to be a couple of years off,” Broccoli continued. “And when we cast Bond, it’s a 10-, 12-year commitment. So he’s probably thinking, ‘Do I really want that thing? Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough getting [Daniel Craig to do it].  Wilson pointed out that Craig, who is now 54, was in his 30s when he first started as Bond. With Elba being 50, he would be at least in his 60s by the time he would call it quits, making the casting look unlikely.  The 007 producers shared that many actors — particularly young actors — think they want to do Bond, but they don’t understand what that commitment really means.  “A lot of people think, ‘Oh yeah, it’d be fun to do one’,” Broccoli said, laughing. “Well. That ain’t gonna work.”  “It’s a big investment for us, too, to bring out a new Bond,” Wilson added.
******At this point, he’d be the only reason to go see it!! They’ve totally screwed up the franchise!!
*******He went in for his physical, and they said: “We’re gonna have to call you 009!!!!”
*********There’s no reason he can’t do it after he’s 60!! Remember: Black Don’t Crack!!

Kanye West Says His Music Catalog Is Not For Sale

Kanye West claims his music catalog is being “put up for sale” without his approval.  He rushed to Instagram Tuesday to question Billboard’s report that his “camp” has been “quietly and intermittently” shopping his publishing catalog. The outlet reported that West’s reps met privately with prospective buyers to “explore what kind of valuation” his discography is worth, with the number being around $175 million.  “Just like Taylor Swift… my publishing is being put up for my sale without my knowledge. Not for sale,” he wrote on his Instagram Story. He referred to Swift’s famous feud with ex-manager Scooter Braun after he sold her masters from the Big Machine Label Group for over a reported $300 million.  Braun’s company Ithaca Holdings LLC signed on the dotted line for the Nashville-based independent record label in June 2019. The sale included Swift’s catalog from her 2006 self-titled debut album to 2017’s “Reputation.”

Barbie Movie Actors “Mortified” Over Leaked Photos

Margot Robbie said she was “mortified” after photos from her new “Barbie” film were leaked onto the internet, which drew hundreds of people to the set and inspired the look of summer 2022: Barbiecore.  “I can’t tell you how mortified we were, by the way,” Robbie said Tuesday on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”  “We look like we’re like laughing and having fun, but we’re dying on the inside. Dying. I was like, this is the most humiliating moment of my life.”  The photos, which captivated the internet for several weeks, were snapped by the local paparazzi and caused hundreds of people to flock to the movie set.  “I mean, I knew that we had some exteriors to shoot in LA. I knew, OK, once you were doing exteriors, you’re gonna get papped. There’s probably going to be a little crowd of people who are going to stand out, because, you know, we stand out a little bit in those outfits,” Robbie said.  “So I knew there was going to be a little bit of attention, and probably some photos would get out there, but not like it did. It was like mad. It was like hundreds of people watching.”  Many details of the plot remain under wraps; however, there is a rumor that the plot will include several different iterations of Ken and Barbie.

Woman Claims McDonald’s Served Chemicals

A Florida woman has filed a lawsuit against an Alabama McDonald’s after alleging she was served “chemicals in a cup” and was denied medical attention from staff.  According to the lawsuit, Sherry Head of DeFuniak Springs was in the drive-thru of the McDonald’s, when she ordered a coffee in December 2021. The location is a franchise-owned restaurant run by Murphy Family Restaurants.  Head said she heard one employee through the drive-thru speaker say her coffee was unavailable because the machine was being cleaned. Another employee immediately said, “No, it’s ready to go.”  “I took a sip, and immediately my mouth and throat went numb, then started burning,” Head said. “Now I have permanent scarring in my throat and may need corrective surgery.” The lawsuit alleges that after tasting the drink. Head noticed something was wrong. She went back through the drive-thru and asked for help. The manager at the window said, “It’s fine.” and slammed it.  Head said she called emergency services and when first responders arrived, McDonald’s employees did not help once again, refusing to show first responders the bottle of chemicals that had been used to clean the machine.  The lawsuit filed in Houston County Court demands $3 million in compensatory damages and $10 million in punitive damages.

Don’t Cook Your Chicken With NyQuil!

The FDA has issued a statement about the dangers of combining nighttime cold medicine with chicken after a viral “Sleepy Chicken” challenge trended earlier this year. The FDA mentioned the unusual trend as an example of over-the-counter drug misuse. “A recent social media video challenge encourages people to cook chicken in NyQuil (acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, and doxylamine) or another similar OTC cough and cold medication, presumably to eat,” the FDA wrote. “The challenge sounds silly and unappetizing — and it is.”  Questionable flavoring aside, the FDA warned that cooking cold medicine could be an unsafe thing to do.  “Boiling a medication can make it much more concentrated and change its properties in other ways,” the FDA wrote in its release.  The agency noted that even when Sleepy Chicken concoctions aren’t ingested, people can put themselves at risk when they inhale the vapors from cooked cold medication.  The #SleepyChicken hashtag on TikTok has 1.2 million views and it has been tagged with trending reaction videos where users share their thoughts on the medicine-cooked dish – many of which have expressed shock and disgust.

Cocaine Stuffed In Wheelchair

A drug sniffing dog helped police at a Malpensa Airport in Milan make the discovery. The user of the wheelchair was pretending to be disabled, and Financial Guard police found the drugs stuffed in the upholstery of the wheelchair. The man was immediately arrested, police said.  The canine unit was on patrol at the airport checking arriving passengers and their luggage from the flight from the Dominican Republic, a commonly used drug smuggling route. When the dog drew the officers’ attention to the wheelchair, police checked the luggage but found nothing.  They then cut open the upholstery of the wheelchair and found cocaine.  In total, 11 packets of cocaine, weighing 25.2lbs was seized, and it could have made 27,000 individual doses, police said.

Story About Man That Rushed The Queen’s Casket

The man arrested for rushing Queen Elizabeth II’s casket was reportedly checking to see if she was alive.  That came out while the accused culprit, Muhammad Khan, appeared in court.  “At the time when you were in Westminster, you didn’t accept that the queen was dead and that was the reason you were moving towards the coffin to satisfy yourself that she was,” Judge Michael Snow told the defendant during the wild hearing, per the BBC.  He was addressing the incident that occurred Friday night after the 28-year-old defendant allegedly tried to grab the flag draped over the Queen’s casket as she lay in state at Westminster Hall. Khan had been among about 250,000 people who shuffled through the building between Wednesday and Monday.  “The defendant had reached Westminster Hall. He was then seen by officers, who were present, to approach the coffin,” prosecutor Luke Staton said describing the scene. “He stepped off the carpet in the direction of the catafalque, then grabbed hold of the Royal Standard flag draped over the coffin with both of his hands.”  A live television feed showed the defendant darting out of line and climbing up the steps to the catafalque before touching the late monarch’s coffin.
*********Then, from inside the coffin, they heard a woman’s voice saying: “How dare you??”

14 Ways to Pay for College Without Student Loans

The Penny Hoarder

  1. Start Saving Early

A 529 college savings plan is a type of tax-advantaged investment account. These accounts come coupled with tax advantages and other types of incentives to make it easier to save for college degree or other types of higher education. The plans are administered either by a state or an educational institution.  The main advantage of 529 savings plans is that earnings are not subjected to federal tax, and they are usually not subject to state tax when they’re used for qualifying educational expenses.

  1. Fill out the FAFSA

The next step is to fill out your FAFSA — also known as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Even if you’re worried you won’t qualify for financial aid, filling out the FAFSA is a relatively painless process, and most schools require it if you want to qualify for any kind of financial aid.  This means that filling out a FAFSA, even if you don’t take out loans, can help qualify you for scholarships and work-study. Importantly, to qualify for Pell Grants, which you don’t have to pay back, you’ll also need to fill out the FAFSA.

  1. Choose an Affordable School

When evaluating where to attend school, consider how much value you’re actually getting from each institution. In many cases, the more affordable option is the smart choice.  Often, smaller, state-run schools can save you thousands of dollars in tuition when compared to large private schools or large public universities. Many institutions offer lower tuition prices for in-state residents. This can be a great way to find “bargains” when it comes to schooling.

  1. Negotiate With the College

If you’ve found a school you like, don’t be afraid to negotiate. Many institutions offer grants or tuition programs for low-income college students or students from diverse backgrounds. They can also direct you to more resources.  And if you’re applying to multiple schools, compare the offers from each and ask the financial aid office at your school of choice if they can match the free financial aid offered by another school. Rather than presenting an ultimatum (which could backfire), approach the school with why you want to choose their institution but are tempted by a lower price tag.

  1. Consider Community College First

If you live somewhere with a community college nearby, consider attending this school first. Many universities and colleges will accept credits from these institutions, and community colleges tend to have lower costs of attendance. In addition, you can save even more money by continuing to live at home.

  1. Earn College Credits in High School

If you’re still in high school, you can get a jump start on college before you ever set foot at a university. Many high schools offer special programs to help you earn college credits while still attending high school. Sometimes these programs will allow you to attend a community college for courses. You may have also heard of Advanced Placement courses, which allow you to take higher-level classes and earn college credits for them.

  1. Apply for Scholarships

Always, always, always apply for scholarships. In many cases, scholarships go unclaimed simply because people don’t apply.  Some scholarships are need-based, and others are merit-based. Need-based scholarships examine things like your income, educational background, and diversity. On the other hand, merit-based scholarships look at your GPA and other achievements to determine your eligibility.  It may seem like a lot of work, but scholarships can help offset your college costs.

  1. Apply for State Grants

Many states offer public grants that don’t have to be repaid. These grants can go toward your education expenses. Unlike scholarships, which may come from private groups, many states sponsor grants for students who meet specific qualifications. Often, students must demonstrate a financial need and enroll at least half-time.

  1. Apply for Private Grants

Similarly to state and public grants are private grants. There are many organizations out there that offer assistance to aspiring students. Contact your financial aid office and community groups in your area to learn more about private grants and locate the ones you’re eligible for.

  1. Get Tuition Assistance From Your Employer

Not everyone at college takes a traditional path. Many people change careers or simply want to boost their value at their organization. One way you can attend college, and save money, is to receive tuition assistance from your employer.  Today, more and more companies offer tuition assistance as part of their employee benefits packages. These programs usually require you to remain with the company for a certain period after graduating, but they can be a great way to work and acquire an MBA, for example.

  1. Work Your Way Through School

We’re not going to claim you can pay for college without loans just by working a part time job. But getting a job while in school can help you cover tuition.  One way to do this is through work-study programs, which allow you to offset your educational expenses with part-time work. Usually, these programs are minimal hours, and to qualify for them, you have to complete your FAFSA. These jobs are often highly sought after, so apply early!  If a work-study doesn’t suit you, consider taking on a side hustle. Don’t forget to help your money grow; consider investing in low-risk options such as certificates of deposit or high-yield savings accounts.

  1. Live Off Campus

One of the biggest costs you’ll face is housing costs, so living off campus is an easy way to save money. If you live close enough, you can always live at home too.  Living off campus will mean you can split expenses with roommates and save huge amounts of money compared to expensive dorm rooms.

  1. Use Military Tuition Assistance

If you’re currently enlisted, consider using the Military Tuition Assistance program. All four service branches of the United States military and the U.S. Coast Guard offer financial assistance to its service members. Members of the National Guard and Reserve Components also may qualify.  Finally, the Department of Veterans Affairs offers several benefit programs for veterans. Both of these options are great choices for servicemen and women.

  1. Finish College in Four Years (or Less)

Lastly, finish your schooling in four years or less if possible! Failing classes, retaking others, and spending more time in school all mean you’ll be spending more money. Some of the best ways to save money are to finish early. Consider taking courses during the summer or winter breaks to speed up your progress.  Even for current college students who have had federal loans wiped out, there are no guarantees that future federal student loans will be forgiven. So it pays to avoid student loans for the rest of your college years.

With smart financial planning, you can minimize the amount of student debt you take out and have a leg up financially on your peers.
