Drake has another song with more than 1 billion streams on Spotify.  The music streaming service confirmed Wednesday that Drake’s hit 2015 single “Hotline Bling” has reached the milestone.  “God’s Plan” and “One Dance” are among Drake’s other songs with more than 1 billion streams on the service.  Drake was Spotify’s most-streamed artist of 2015, 2016 and 2018, and was named the service’s most-streamed artist of the decade in 2019.  In January, Drake became the first artist to pass 50 billion streams on Spotify.  “Hotline Bling” appears on Drake’s fourth studio album Views, released in April 2016.

Piers Morgan Wants His Job Back

Piers Morgan’s controversial comments about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey have been cleared by officials.  The U.K.’s office of communications confirmed on Wednesday it had concluded its investigation into the former “Good Morning Britain” co-host’s comments made on the ITV program on March 8, which drew more than 40,000 complaints.  “Today we’ve concluded our investigation into Piers Morgan’s comments on Good Morning Britain in the wake of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah Winfrey,” Ofcom tweeted.  Ofcom listed the investigation status as “not in breach,” and in a summary called it a “finely-balanced decision.”  “I’m delighted OFCOM has endorsed my right to disbelieve the Duke & Duchess of Sussex’s incendiary claims to Oprah Winfrey, many of which have proven to be untrue. This is a resounding victory for free speech and a resounding defeat for Princess Pinocchios. Do I get my job back?” Morgan wrote. Morgan was initially met with backlash after saying he didn’t “believe a word” of Markle’s claims of royal family racism and bullying during a tense on-air exchange with his former co-host Alex Beresford over the couple’s explosive interview with Winfrey. At the time, Morgan walked off the “Good Morning Britain” set, declaring, “OK, I’m done with this. Sorry, no, can’t do this.”

Britney Spears’ Ex-Husband Arrested

Britney Spears’ ex-husband Jason Alexander was arrested on Sunday at a Nashville airport for a security violation.  On August 29th, he was in the TSA area when he allegedly “walked through” the secure side of a concourse. He was placed in handcuffs by airport security and charged with a misdemeanor, a warrant revealed.  He was also questioned and claimed he “went through the TSA checkpoint, and while looking for his flight walked out of the secure side of the C/D exit to the non-secure side and came back through the exit.”  Online records show his bail was set at $2,500 and is due in court on Sept. 24th.  Alexander went on Instagram Live Tuesday and called his arrest an “inconvenience” and claimed it was “because of something stupid.”  He is best known for being married to Spears for 55 hours in 2004. They were high school sweethearts who tied the knot in Las Vegas but quickly had their union annulled.

Honey Boo Boo Is Dating A College Man

Honey Boo Boo heartbreakingly shared she doesn’t have friends — but she does have a boyfriend.  The ex-star, whose real name is Alana Thompson, has secretly been dating college student Dralin Carswell for six months, the US Sun reported Tuesday. Despite their four-year age gap, Thompson’s family reportedly approves.  “Dralin and Alana are attached at the hip and hang out together all the time,” an insider told the outlet. “He was quiet at first, but he’s like one of the family now. He’s just as fun and crazy as the rest of them.”  Thompson, 16, and Carswell, 20, appeared to confirm their courtship in March when he changed his Facebook status to “in a relationship.”  Thompson also updated her relationship status and posted a selfie with Carswell on her private Facebook account and made it her cover photo. The couple reside in Georgia, where the age of consent is 16.

Dennis Rodman’s Vegas Bender Turing Into Movie

Dennis Rodman’s two days spent in Las Vegas during the Chicago Bulls’ 1998 postseason — which was highlighted in “The Last Dance” — is now being turned into a movie of its own. The film will be titled “48 Hours in Vegas” and Rodman is set to be an executive producer.   The Lionsgate Film will go will be based on Rodman’s experiences and the friendship he made with his assistant, according to Rolling Stone, during the trip that took place in the middle of the NBA Finals. It is being written by Jordan VanDina and will include Phil Lord and Christopher Miller as producers.  “There’s only one Dennis Rodman. In 1998, there was nobody on Earth who’d be more fun — or maybe more dangerous — to party with,” Lionsgate’s Nathan Kahane said. “And yet that’s not even half of who he is. This movie takes you on an unforgettable ride with the myth, the legend, and also the man that Dennis is, behind everything you think you know. You think you know anything about ‘The Worm?’ Just you wait!”  It’s not secret that Rodman’s time in Vegas has enough twists to make a good movie.  Bulls head coach Phil Jackson allowed Rodman to take a break in the middle of the NBA Finals. Notably in “The Last Dance,” Michael Jordan explained that he was not on board with Jackson’s decision to allow Rodman to make the trip.  Famously, Rodman did not come back in the timeframe he told the Bulls he would, which caused both Jackson and Jordan to go to Vegas and retrieve Rodman themselves. Rodman’s time in Vegas was brought up in two episodes of “The Last Dance.”
*******Shouldn’t this be called “The Hangover 3???”
*******This is the one where he meets Kim Jong Un at Bally’s Casino!!!! A brief love affair ensues!!

Debra Disses Madonna!

Debra Winger threw everyone a curveball when she recently revealed that despite training for three months with Chicago Cubs players to prepare, she walked off the 1992 movie A League of Their Own for one reason:  Madonna.  Debra, 66, balked at the pop star’s casting, which she argues turned the movie into an “Elvis film” that dishonors the real-life women they were playing.  And she has no regrets, noting that the 63-year-old singer’s “acting career has spoken for itself.”  As for the pitch hitter who stepped into her role, Oscar winner Geena Davis?  Scoffs Debra:  “She did OK.”  Sounds like someone’s just a bad sport!

STUPID NEWS

Cougar Evicted From The Bronx

Animal welfare authorities in New York said a cougar is on its way to Arkansas after being surrendered by an owner who was keeping the 80-pound animal in a Bronx, N.Y., apartment.  The Humane Society of the United States, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the New York Police Department and the Bronx Zoo worked together to rescue the animal after the owner contacted authorities to say they could no longer care for the 11-month-old cougar.  Investigators said the owner had purchased the cougar as a cub from an out-of-state seller and recently decided to find a new home for the big cat once it started to show signs of aggression.  “Wildlife like cougars are not pets,” Department of Environmental Conservation commissioner Basil Seggos said in a news release. “While cougars may look cute and cuddly when young, these animals can grow up to be unpredictable and dangerous.”  The cougar was taken to the Bronx Zoo temporarily and now is being transported to a new home at the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in Arkansas.

Raw Chicken Ends Up On Baggage Carousel

The TSA shared video of the unappetizing situation that resulted when a block of raw chicken ended up on the baggage carousel at a Seattle airport. The TSA said in an Instagram post that the chicken had apparently been in a cooler in checked baggage, but it had come free of its container at some point and ended up as a mass of raw meat on the baggage claim carousel at Seattle Tacoma International Airport.  “We hear at one time these wings and thighs were cooped up in a cooler. Somewhere between baggage and the carousel they became free range,” the post said. The post said the unhygienic scene should serve as a reminder to ensure checked baggage, especially of the raw meat variety, is properly packaged.  “Don’t wing your travel packing. In order to keep from ruffling any feathers meat should be properly packaged. Ice or dry ice is permitted to keep the flock chilled,” the TSA said.

Collector Finds Missing Ashes

A Massachusetts man combing a beach with his metal detector found a locket containing the ashes of the owner’s father and was able to find the woman who lost it two months earlier.  Rich Bonanno of Scituate said he was using his metal detector on Nantasket Beach, trying to find a diamond ring lost by a South Shore Hospital nurse, when he came across a heart-shaped silver locket with the words “Miss You” printed on it.  Bonanno found what he suspected to be human cremains in the locket, and a call was put out on social media to attempt to find the owner.  Thomasina Holley-Lewis of Rockland said her cousin saw the Facebook post and texted her to see if the locket Bonanno had found was the one she had lost on the beach two months earlier.  Holley-Lewis recognized her precious item and called Bonanno.  “I called him and said, ‘That’s my locket,'” she told The Patriot-Ledger newspaper. “My father’s watching over me like an angel.”  Holley-Lewis said the locket contains the ashes of her father, who died of COVID-19 in November of last year.  Bonanno said his is mailing the locket back to its owner.

A LIST FOR THURSDAY

10 Things You Can Rent Instead of Buy

The Penny Hoarder

  1. A Coffin from A Funeral Home

This is an item that most definitely is used only once. With the average casket carrying a retail price of $2,000 up to $10,000, casket rentals can be a big money saver. Most funeral homes will rent a casket for about $1,000. Ask your funeral director for particular rental options.

In these cases, a wooden box actually holds the body in the interior of the casket, which looks much more elegant at a funeral service. The interior box is lowered into the ground and the casket can be rented again.

  1. Baby Gear for Traveling Light

Renting baby equipment whether from a hotel, local agency or big company can save money and stress. Harried parents don’t have to worry about traveling with a jogging stroller, high chair and crib, and folks hosting young guests don’t have to run out and spend big bucks on supplies they’ll never use again.

Call ahead when you travel and you’ll find many hotels will rent baby supplies. If you’re staying in a private home or Airbnb, a Google search will find local agencies that rent baby and toddler gear. VisitingBaby, for example, is a popular one in Tampa, Fla., while Baby Stay Rentals is in Denver.

Then there are nationwide companies such as BabyQuip and Babysaway.

BabyQuip, a Shark Tank favorite, has a network of gig-economy folks who go through an extensive training program, background checks and safety checks to qualify. They rent out cribs, car seats, strollers, toys and more.

Prices for products vary from city to city in more than 700 markets across the country. An average street stroller costs $8 a day, safety gates are $2 a day and a Pack n’ Play with mattress and bottom sheet costs $8 a day.

Each entrepreneur renting their products sets their prices. Delivery costs seem to vary the most from $20 to $100.

Babysaway has its own collection of baby supplies in more than 100 cities. Strollers average $7 a day, safety gates $3 a day and a Pack n’ Play $7 a day.

  1. Power Tools

It’s common practice to rent a carpet cleaner from a local Home Depot or Lowe’s, but many consumers don’t know you can rent lots of other power tools as well.

If you’re only going to use that tile saw once, then that’s an obvious thing to rent. Even tools you use once a year on home improvement projects won’t stay in good condition, so it also makes sense to rent them.

Home Depot and Lowe’s have a wide selection of tools — which can be prohibitively expensive to purchase — that are always ready to go and come with expert advice on how to use them.

Renting is less expensive than paying the purchase price and saves on the maintenance costs and repair costs of tools.

“When you rent a tool they are always in good shape, clean and ready to use. No hoses are broken, nothing needs to be replaced or refilled,” said Rob Littke, a builder and handyman in St. Petersburg, Fla. “You never get to a job site and find out it doesn’t work.”

Here are some examples of prices:

At Home Depot, a cordless paint sprayer costs $27 for four hours or $38 for the day, while a pressure washer is $63 for four hours or $76 per day.

At Lowe’s a concrete saw rents for $53 a day, a tile saw is $67 a day and a pressure washer is $36 a day.

Got a library card? Many libraries loan out more than books. Check whether your local branch has a tool lending library where you can borrow basic tools.

  1. Pickup Truck For Quick Jobs

It makes more sense to rent a truck instead of hiring a moving company to haul your furniture or paying the additional cost to get a couch or bed delivered. Plus you can only hit up your truck-owning friends so many times.

Pickup truck rentals at Home Depot are $20 for 75 minutes,  $129 a day or $903 a week.

Lowe’s charges $19 for 90 minutes or $89 all day.

Ready to cash in on the rental economy? If you live in a busy city, rent out a parking space in your driveway or garage and earn good money.

  1. Camping Gear and Other Sports Equipment

Renting sports equipment is an economical choice for families with children involved in high-end sports. Seasonal sports items like skis and golf clubs can be a costly investment for equipment that is only used a few months out of the year.

Try Friendwitha.com, a peer-to-peer platform for renting sports equipment. Here are some examples of prices:

Folding bike: $35 a day; Snowboard: $25 a day; Wilson tennis rackets (2): $4 a day; Electric bike by Jupiter: $60.

Ready to explore the great outdoors? First consider whether it makes the most sense to rent camping gear vs. owning it.

Outdoors outfitter REI rents camping and sports gear in addition to selling it at its palatial stores. Offerings include equipment for camping, downhill skiing, cycling and paddling. The store’s website advises customers to call their local store to see what it rents because not all locations have the same rental inventory.

REI is a co-op, meaning customers can pay a one-time fee of $20 to have a small ownership stake, which comes with benefits. You don’t have to be a member to rent, but when weighing expenses it may be more affordable to pay the $20 to join and get reduced rental fees.

For example, to rent backcountry skis, members pay $60 the first night and $36 for subsequent nights, while nonmembers pay $90 the first night and $54 for subsequent nights plus a $100 deposit.

  1. Musical Instruments

Whether for a child learning an instrument at school or an adult taking up a new hobby, it’s a good idea to start out renting that trumpet, flute or electric guitar. If it’s not going to be a longtime endeavor, you haven’t shelled out as much extra money.

Many local music stores rent instruments and there’s also an online clearing house, Musicarts.com. Rental fees on instruments can often be applied as your down payment or put toward continuing payments if you end up buying.

  1. Designer Dresses, Work Attire and Casual Clothes

Clothing rentals have become so popular, you can now pay a monthly fee to have a high-quality wardrobe delivered to your door regularly. Most clothing rental services also offer accessories such as handbags and jewelry, too.

Rent the Runway is one of the best-known clothing rental companies, offering women the chance to wear designer clothes for a fraction of the dollars to buy them. From a one-sleeve Badgley Mischka floral that sells for $800 to a $1,400 Red Valentino embroidered full-length gown, the formal options are plentiful, along with attire for work, weekends, clubbing and outdoor activities. Rent the Runway offers four items a month for $89, eight for $135 or 16 for $199.

Nuuly is another popular clothing rental site, with a few more casual and lower priced items ranging in price from $120 to $300. It’s owned by UEBN, the parent company of Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie.

Armoire makes styling suggestions based on answers to a consumer questionnaire.

Also check out local, independent shops. For example, at Valhalla in Tampa, Fla., clients pay $39 for unlimited access to the store’s 6,000 items of clothing.

  1. Men’s Clothing for Special Occasions and Beyond

Men also like the chance to wear expensive threads they can’t afford on a regular basis.

Born in 2019, Seasons offers clothes from more than 25 designers including Prada, Gucci, Bode, Craig Green and Stone Island. The rental rates are: one item a month for $65, two for $95, three for $125, six for $215.

Nuuly is reported to be in the process of adding men’s clothing to its offerings.

  1. Toys

A business born during the pandemic, Tiny Earth Toys, is a subscription service that delivers high quality toys to families each month. Since children often tire of their toys quickly, and their abilities change rapidly when they are younger, regularly changing the lineup is smart.

Tiny Earth employs two early childhood educators who help select wooden toys such as stacking rings, puzzles and wooden people, trees, bridges and trucks. All are “open ended” meaning the children can manipulate them in their own way for a variety of activities.

Tiny Earth charges $29 a month for four sustainable wood toys. For $49, you’ll receive six to nine wooden toys a month.

  1. Handbags

Again, whether you want a knockout bag for a special occasion or to add some variety to your rotation on a monthly basis, renting could be the way to go.

Bag Borrow or Steal is one of several ways you can rent a designer purse. Customers can rent a bag for one month with free shipping. Choices include a small Gucci disco bag  for $125,  a Chanel tote bag for $325 a month and a Prada envelope bag for $100 a month. If you were to buy these items, they’d run from $1,000 to $5,000.

Other handbag rental sites include Luxury Rental Fashions, which has similar prices and policies. Bag Romance offers a great feature of showing the retail price of bags for rent. For example a black Chanel clutch that rents for $350 a month sells for $2,400.
