Harry and Meghan Sign Deal With Netflix

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have signed a multi-year deal with Netflix.  Variety confirmed Wednesday that they will develop documentaries, feature films, scripted television series and children’s shows for the streaming service.  “Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection,” Harry and Markle said in a statement.  “Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” the couple added. “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens.”  The New York Times said Harry and Markle have founded a yet-to-be-named production company. The couple may appear on camera in documentary programming, although Markle has previously said she has no plans to return to acting.  “We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere,” Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said.

Tyler Perry Hits Billionaire Status

Tyler Perry has become the newest billionaire in the entertainment industry, according to a new report from Forbes.  Forbes published a cover story on Perry and his Hollywood empire on Monday which gives an inside look into the actor and filmmaker’s various business ventures.  The publication estimates that Perry has earned $1.4 billion in pretax income since 2005, with his estimated net worth at $1 billion.  Perry, 51, owns everything he has released, including 1,200 episodes of television, 22 feature films and multiple stage plays. He has a production deal with ViacomCBS and has an equity stake in streaming service BET+.  Perry also owns Tyler Perry Studios, a 330-acre studio in Atlanta. The lot contains 12 sound stages named after famous Black entertainers such as Oprah Winfrey and Will Smith.  Perry, who first started his career touring small theaters around the country to perform plays that he wrote, produced and starred in, received the 2,675th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in October.  “I love when people say you come from humble beginnings. It means you were poor as hell,” Perry told Forbes.  “Ownership changes everything,” he continued.

David Blaine Completes Balloon Stunt

David Blaine successfully performed his first live stunt since 2012 titled “Ascension,” which saw him soar high above the Arizona desert propelled by helium-filled balloons.  He teamed up with YouTube to fund and live stream the incredibly dangerous stunt. He opened the live broadcast by introducing the audience to the team that the company helped him put together in order to make the event both safe and legal, as well as available for people to watch.  Blaine took off from an airport near Page, Ariz., on Tuesday. He carefully dropped weights that were keeping him near the ground as he slowly ascended to a maximum height of roughly 24,400 feet, also known as class A airspace, which is typically reserved for planes. His rig of more than 50 colorful balloons also included what his team called a “payload,” a fiberglass orb that housed the various technologies to make things like oxygen and the cameras that surrounded Blaine work.  The performer did not wear a parachute, opting instead to put one on while in the air so that the visual effect of what he was trying to accomplish would be complete.  Oxygen was a hurdle for the performer, who at various points in his hourlong flight had to stop talking to catch his breath and use the assistance of an oxygen tank. However, that didn’t stop him from having two mid-air conversations with his daughter, who was on the ground to attach the final balloon to his rig before takeoff.  Once he reached the intended height, he dropped from the balloon rig and successfully parachuted to the ground. However, he was unable to make his intended landing zone. As a result, he was guided back down to Earth by his team, who was in constant radio communication the whole time, as they found a safe spot for him to land in the desert.
*******Remember a few years ago when a guy rode a balloon up to the edge of space and jumped? Now, THAT was a trick!!

Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh Had COVID-19

Mark Mothersbaugh, the frontman for Devo, first noticed symptoms of coronavirus in May, which led him to a mentally and physically exhausting stay in the ICU.  The musician, who turned 70 the same month he began experiencing symptoms, said the diagnosis and hospitalization made him feel 20 years older.  Mothersbaugh went into detail about the battle in a candid interview with the Los Angeles Times on Monday.  He said his symptoms first started out as fatigue, which he attributed to his various work projects.  To his shock, he registered a 103-degree fever.  “A nurse came over the next morning and said, ‘You should be in ICU.’ I said, ‘That’s ridiculous.’ She replied that she’d been a nurse for three decades: ‘You need an ambulance right now,'” Mothersbaugh recalled.  His wife, Anita Greenspan, also opened up to the outlet about the escalation of his symptoms.  “It went from, ‘I don’t feel good’ on Tuesday to an ambulance to Cedars on Saturday. It was terrifying,” she said.

She’s the boss of them?  Sources say that with top dog Simon Cowell sidelined with a broken back, America’s Got Talent judge Heidi Klum has been grabbing the reins at the reality show, which resumed taping last week.  Though Heidi, who joined the panel just last season, shares equal billing with fellow judges Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara, “you wouldn’t know it from the she’s acting,” tattles a spy, adding that the model, 47, has been talking over her fellow judges at meetings, messaging them at all hours with her ideas and trying to dictate work schedules.  “She’s elbowing Howie and Sofia to the side, and it’s not cool-especially for Howie, who has way more seasons under his belt than she does,” the source says.  “He’s really bent out of shape.”  And it’s just going to continue, with Simon, 60, out for the long haul after undergoing six hours of surgery in early August to implant a metal rod in his back.  (Meanwhile, his sub at the judges’ table, Kelly Clarkson, has joked that she’s getting “real comfortable” in his chair.)  “Everyone’s going to have to put up with Heidi’s bossy ways until he returns,” spills the source.  “’The sooner the better,’ they say!”

Man Finds Fake Leg In American River

A diver who takes near-daily plunges into California’s American River said he encountered an unusual item under water — a prosthetic leg — and was able to return it to its owner.  Karl Bly, who runs the American River Lost & Found Facebook, said he regularly finds phones and other devices at the bottom of the water, but the prosthetic leg discovery was a first for him.  “Once I got past the foot that was on it, the human-looking foot, I saw the mechanics of it and realized it was a prosthetic leg and I just knew immediately somebody needed it back,” Bly told CBS Sacramento.  Bly posted a photo of the leg on his Facebook page and he soon received a message from the leg’s owner, a man named Scott.  “He came down right away to pick it up. Very very thankful. He just went on and on about how he needed it to get back to work,” Bly said.  Bly said the man told him the leg would have cost $15,000 to replace, making it the most expensive item the diver has fished out of the river this year.  See the video HERE.

Jetpack Man Seen Near LAX

An American Airlines pilot preparing to land in Los Angeles reported an unusual encounter at about 3,000 feet with a “guy in a jetpack.”  A recording of the conversation between the pilot and air traffic control Sunday evening at Los Angeles International Airport recounted the incident.  “Tower, American 1997, we just passed a guy in a jetpack,” the pilot said in the recording.  The pilot said the man wearing the jetpack was flying at about 3,000 feet, about 10 miles away from the airport. The man came within 300 yards of the plane, the pilot said.  A second pilot also reported spotting a man flying at a high altitude in the jetpack.  The jetpack sightings remained a mystery Tuesday, as no one had come forward to claim credit for the flight. Wearable personal aviation devices have been demonstrated before, but usually at much lower altitudes.  The Federal Aviation Administration said the investigation into the incident has been turned over to the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI.

Bears Break Into Convenience Store

Security cameras at a California convenience store captured video of repeated visits from a group of unusual shoplifters — bears.  Footage recorded Sunday by the security cameras at the Chevron gas station convenience store in Kings Beach shows a bear lying on the floor eating merchandise, including candy and crackers.  Employee Paul Heigh said local bears have repeatedly visited the store in recent weeks. A video recorded Saturday shows a bear lunging at Heigh as he attempted to block its path into the store.  “It was kinda scary, yeah, I’m not going to lie,” Heigh told CBS Sacramento. “It’s not in the job description no, not at all. Fighting off bears was not in the job description.”  A video dated Aug. 12 shows a bear wandering into the store and being swatted on the backside by a customer.  Wildlife officials said a bear that was seen inside a Safeway grocery store in Kings Beach recently is one of the same bears that has been visiting the Chevron store. See the video HERE.

Guy Wants To Break Movie Watching Record

A cinema enthusiast in Manitoba is going for a Guinness World Record by attempting to see Tenet in theaters 120 times.  Craig Sharpe, 47, of Winnipeg began his attempt Aug. 26 and attended his 15th screening of Tenet early Tuesday afternoon in his quest to see the Christopher Nolan film 120 times.  Sharpe said his goal is to break the Guinness World Record for most cinema productions attended — same film. The record is currently held by Australian woman Joanne Connor, who attended 108 screenings of Bohemian Rhapsody in early 2019.  Sharpe said he expects his attempt to take about 30 days.  “The rules from Guinness are: you have from the time that it’s opened and it only counts when it’s a first-run movie,” Sharpe told the Winnipeg Free Press. “The moment it’s available for download or purchase, that window closes.”  The rules also require Sharpe to stay for the entire movie, including the credits.
*******If you’re wondering what to get him for Christmas, how about… A LIFE???
*****Here in California, we’d like to see movie ONE time!! The commies in Sacramento still have us locked down!! (It’s science?)

What To Do When Your Long-Distance Relationship Feels Extra Distant

Huffington Post

Work on your communication skills.

“Relationships may start to feel extra distant when one or both partners aren’t communicating enough,” said Alysha Jeney, a therapist and owner of Modern Love Counseling in Denver. “Maybe they are struggling external to the relationship and don’t want to communicate about it and resort to pulling away to cope. Maybe partners are struggling with building intimacy from a distance and need to prioritize the uniqueness of their relationship.”

She noted that transparent and vulnerable communication is important in a long-distance relationship, so it’s important to express what you’re feeling while you’re living apart rather than let things fester.

“Couples may struggle when they make assumptions about each other and begin to build insecurities or assumptions,” Jeney added.

Talk about what’s happening in your day-to-day life. That way, your partner will know what challenges you’re dealing with outside the relationship rather than fill in the blanks with unhealthy assumptions.

Ask difficult questions.

“Be curious,” advised Jeney. “Ask questions that are not accusatory, such as ‘I wanted to check in and see how you’re feeling in general and about us.’ Or ‘How are you feeling about how things are going in our relationship? What can we do to bridge any gaps or disconnects?’”

Steinberg echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that you have to be willing to face any issues that arise head-on but should avoid being overly accusatory or jumping to conclusions. And don’t let your fears about what the answers or consequences might be prevent you from asking the tough questions.

“Bring up your concerns and feelings in a sensitive, mature way ― to let the other person know how their behavior is affecting you,” she said. “Say, ‘When you go a few days without checking in, I start to feel disconnected from you. Is there a way we can make this work better for the both of us?’ You will learn a lot about the person and how important the relationship is to him/her by his/her response to your requests.”

Set expectations together.

“Trust is huge with long-distance relationships, and you both need to express your expectations and make fair agreements so both of you are on the same page about your connection and responsibility to each other,” Jeney said.

Do a bit of housekeeping by setting expectations together. This involves discussing each other’s needs and feelings so that you can agree to a schedule for visiting each other, as well as how often you want to be communicating with each other via text and video chat.

Talk about your long-term hopes and expectations as well. Meyers noted that it’s helpful for couples to “mutually remind each other of their shared goals for the relationship.”

Make tangible plans.

“Relationships thrive off of anticipation of things you might do together or moments you may create,” said Damona Hoffman, a dating coach and host of the “Dates & Mates” podcast. “If there isn’t a specific plan to be together that you are working towards, a relationship can feel distant and aimless.”

She advised building moments of anticipation in the relationship ― whether that’s an in-person meet-up or a fun virtual date night.

“Knowing you have special time together coming up can give you both a sense of purpose in the relationship,” she explained.

Take stock of your needs and feelings.

“Individually, you can work on mindfulness and be really attuned to your own needs and feelings throughout the day,” Jeney noted. “If you miss your partner, how do you respond to it? Do you reach out to your partner excessively, do you suppress it and move on? How can your feelings and needs be congruent with your behavior?”

Understanding yourself will make you better able to communicate your needs and feelings when you have big conversations and set expectations.

Try to be a better listener.

In addition to better equipping yourself to express what you want and need, you should also work on your ability to process your partner’s needs and feelings. Showing interest in what your partner has to say goes a long way.

“From a self-improvement perspective, make sure you are focused on building your listening skills so your partner feels connected and supported when you speak,” Hoffman suggested.

“The key to a fulfilling long-distance relationship is a relationship that offers tremendous emotional intimacy,” Meyers said, adding that showing curiosity in what is happening in your partner’s daily life is one way to increase that emotional intimacy.

Get creative.

Distance poses unique challenges, so it’s important to think outside the box while you’re apart.

“Couples who are separated by geography must work harder and be more creative in order to sustain a sense of closeness,” Meyers noted. “Sending tiny gifts on a regular basis and designing fun, creative theme dates on the phone or virtually can go a long way in keeping two people connected.”

You can also spice up your standard video chat, Hoffman suggested.

“Instead of the boring usual video chat, play a game together or do an activity like sip and paint night to give yourself an additional interaction point than just the conversation,” she said.
