Ewan McGregor May Lose Half His Fortune

Ewan McGregor is losing half of the fortune he’s amassed during his long acting career thanks to a divorce with his ex-wife, Eve Mavrakis.  The split came after the couple had been together more than 20 years amid reports that McGregor was spotted cozying up with his “Fargo” co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The former co-stars are reportedly still together.  According to court documents obtained by People, McGregor and Mavrakis agreed to split their assets, which for him means any earned income from films and TV projects that he worked on while they were together. The couple reportedly called it quits in 2017 and has been locked in a divorce battle ever since.  For perspective, that means that she’s entitled to a chunk of change from such lucrative properties he’s been in over the years as three “Star Wars” movies, “Trainspotting,” “Moulin Rouge!,” “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” “Angels & Demons” and many more. The outlet notes that half the $3 million he got for the 2018 film “Christopher Robin” will also go to his ex despite it being made after their split date.  In addition to losing half of what he made in the last two decades, McGregor has agreed to pay almost $15,000 per month in child support as well as make a trust fund for their younger daughter’s educational expenses. He’ll also pay almost $36,000 per month in spousal support.

Jeffrey Epstein’s Creep Mansion Had Eyes

More details are coming out on the property of Jeffrey Epstein, specifically his New York mansion, where he invited guests to have sex with girls he would traffic.  Gypsy Gita, who worked with Epstein between 2001 to 2005, described the property worth $71 million as “creepy.” He said that the mansion felt like walking into a “world” that was “weird” and “warped.”  She described Maxwell’s mansion to The Mail on Sunday, saying, “There was this huge wall of prosthetic eyeballs.” He also added there must have been at least 150 of those “eyeballs.”  “Jeffrey would say, ‘Don’t forget you are being watched at all times,’” Gita added.  Epstein’s victims have also claimed that Epstein “monitored everything” in his mansion via a security room, where he could spy on guests while they were in the bedrooms and toilets.

Ellen’s Ex Speaks Out

Ellen DeGeneres’ ex-girlfriend Anne Heche has weighed in on the ongoing toxic workplace scandal.  “I haven’t spoken to Ellen in years. I’d listen to the people who have,” Heche told Mr. Warburton magazine for its cover story.  Heche described their nearly four-year relationship as “a beautiful part” of her life that she wears “with honor” but hinted that there might be something to the complaints surrounding the “Ellen” show, which have prompted many to wonder if it’ll be canceled. DeGeneres’ producers, however, maintain the show will go on.  “If I’m standing someplace and I don’t like what’s going on there and I stay there, it’s my fault,” said Heche, who dated DeGeneres from 1997 to 2000. “So what are the actions that got me there and why can’t I get out of it easily if that’s not something that I want to be engaged in?”  She added, “Ellen is standing where she walks, and that is hers to continue that journey.”

They became Instagram official at the end of April.

Harry and William Hardly Speak

Prince William and Prince Harry cut off all communication for two months after the latter went rogue and divulged his “Megxit” plans on social media, according to a royal biographer. They still barely speak and their rift will “take time to heal,” said Omid Scobie, one of the authors of “Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family,” The Sun reported.  “I think the distance between the brothers grew wider and wider,” Scobie said in an interview on “True Royalty TV” that aired Sunday.  “That’s really going to take some time to heal,” Scobie said.  William was apparently furious that Harry and wife Meghan Markle in January decided to reveal a road map for how they planned to step back from the royal family and become financially independent.  “The statements weren’t discussed internally. That’s really what caused the most amount of hurt to William, because he wears two hats,” Scobie said.  “He’s not just the brother, he’s also future king and he felt that damaged the reputation of the family.”  The royal expert added: “That it put family business out into the public domain when it should’ve been discussed privately and there was a lot of hurt there that continues to this day.”  There also wasn’t much of an effort made to get Harry and Meghan to stay, Scobie said.  He claimed the institution would “stop at nothing to make Meghan’s life difficult,” citing a fight over the Duchess’ wedding tiara.  It prompted Harry to call his grandmother to complain about one of her assistants who apparently wasn’t being accommodating enough to his future bride.  “Harry had to intervene,” Scobie claimed. “He called his grandmother and said, ‘I don’t know what the hell is going on. This woman needs to make this work for my future wife.’”  He added: “Harry felt that there were those within the institution that would stop at nothing at the very least to make Meghan’s life difficult.”

Restaurant Makes You Weigh Yourself

A Chinese restaurant apologized for any offense caused when it placed scales at its entrance and suggested customers weigh themselves to determine what they should order.  The Chuiyan Fried Beef location in Changsha, Hunan province, said the scales and menu suggestions were put in place as a response to President Xi Jinping’s call for the country to reduce food waste.  The two scales were placed at the entrance to the eatery and customers were encouraged to weigh themselves. A guide placed by the scales offered suggestions for food selections and portion sizes for men and women of various weight ranges.  The move sparked criticism on social media from customers who felt the weight-based initiative encouraged fat shaming.  The restaurant said in a post that it was “deeply sorry” for any offense caused by the program.  “Our intention was to advocate not wasting food and for people to order in a healthy way,” the post stated.  The eatery said the weighing was strictly voluntary.

Man Punches Shark To Save Wife

A man took matters into his own fists when a great white shark attacked his wife while they were out surfing on an Australian beach this weekend, police said.  Mark Rapley and his wife Chantelle Doyle were spending the day at Shelly Beach at Port Macquarie, New South Wales, when the shark, which was described as being between 6 and 10 feet, attacked Doyle and threw her off her surfboard, according to the North South Wales police. Rapley told the Nine Network he paddled to his wife’s board as she tried to climb back up while the shark grabbed her right calf.  Rapley grabbed on to his wife’s surfboard and began punching the shark until it let her go, the police said.  “When you see the mother of your child, and your support, everything that’s who you are, so you just react,” he told the channel. “Your body reacts to saying get off, get off. So you start punching it, you start thinking amazingly where to punch it and so you’re like, ‘I’ll just attack the eye,’ or whatever. You just start thinking differently.”

6 Ways To Help Your Kid Cope With Back-To-School Disappointment

Huffington Post

  1. Ask them how they’re feeling.

It is such a simple, obvious step, but experts say it’s one that parents sometimes overlook. “We should really be taking the time to ask them: ‘How are you feeling about this?’” Walls urged.

Really let them tell you. Don’t say: “Are you sad? Are you upset?” she cautioned. Instead, pose it as an open-ended question. (Because remember: Some kids are thriving in this new normal!) Then keep asking those open-ended questions once school begins and throughout the year.

  1. Validate those feelings.

Many parents have the urge to fix their children’s problems, but experts say it’s important to fight that impulse. “Let kids know it’s OK to be frustrated. It’s OK to be sad. Lots of adults are frustrated and sad, too,” said Walls.

Research shows that validating difficult emotions can help children work through them more effectively and develop “EQ,” or emotional intelligence. They’re learning to identify what they are feeling and developing coping strategies that will serve them well throughout their lifetimes.

  1. Acknowledge what didn’t work last spring.

If your child had a particularly tough go of it during remote learning last academic year, now is the time to sit down together to make a list of the specific problems he or she faced.

Ask: “How can we make the experience a little more tolerable?” said Melissa Brymer, a psychologist with UCLA Health. Were there younger siblings always interrupting? Did your kiddo feel awkward doing Zoom lessons in front of you or their siblings? Consider things you can control on your end, as well as concerns that your child’s school or teacher can help address on theirs.

It may help to remind your child (and yourself) that teachers have learned a lot about remote learning. Some of the problems they had at first might not be an issue anymore.

“You can highlight that during the summer teachers have been working on different distance learning strategies,” Brymer said. “Can we point out things that are different that would help to excite students?”

  1. Lean on the school.

When schools closed last spring, parents knew teachers and administrators were overwhelmed and may have shied away from burdening them with what was going on at home, Brymer said.

But she argued that parents should feel comfortable about using teachers and school counselors as resources — because they truly can help children process tough emotions and strategize ways to make this a successful year.

“If your kid was struggling during regular school, you’d go to the school counselor or their teacher and start raising issues early. That can still happen in this remote learning setting,” said Brymer. Don’t think you have to go it alone in making this all work for your kiddo logistically or emotionally.

  1. Maintain structure and consistency as much as possible.

If you need to plant your kid in front of a screen for a few hours because it’s the only way you can get work done, that’s one thing. But if you’re being more lax or indulgent about certain things because you think that will help mitigate their disappointment, that is something to pay attention to, Walls cautioned.

“I can’t tell you how many parents I’ve worked with who say, ‘Well, I feel bad, so I’ve let them do X, Y and Z,‘” she said. “But I think that what our kids really need from us right now is this kind of constant, steadfast continuity. There are a lot of unknowns. You want to be the ‘known’ as a parent.”

  1. Sell them on this school year.

Parents are worried about the upcoming school year and the enormous challenges it presents on so many fronts: logistics, finances, health and safety. But Walls cautioned against complaining or venting in front of children, who take their cues from adults.

“We need to look at our school plans, we need to take a deep breath, and then we need to present it to our kids as, ‘Hey, here’s what’s going to happen this year. We’ve talked about how it might be disappointing, but we’re going to get through it. And here’s how we’re going to,’” Walls said.

Ultimately, managing any disappointment your child is experiencing is really about striking a balance. Sure, you want to give them time and space to grapple with hard emotions. But you also want to put a positive spin on the year. You want to model resiliency, particularly because whatever school looks like for them when this academic year begins could be very different later on.

“Whether you’re starting remote or starting face-to-face, there might have to be changes,” Brymer said. “Kids want to know that their routines are still going to be in place, and there are going to be safety measures. The more we can let them know that as parents, we are aware that things might change — and that this is how we’ll get through it together — that helps.”
