Prince Harry Releases Statement On Afghanistan

Prince Harry issued a statement regarding the Taliban’s new hold on Afghanistan.   He served in the British Army for a decade, including two deployments in Afghanistan, issued a joint statement with Dominic Reid, the CEO of Harry’s Invictus Games, on Monday. In it, they call on the international community, particularly those who have served or whose family members have served in the country, to reach out to one another as emotions flare regarding the Taliban takeover.   “What’s happening in Afghanistan resonates across the international Invictus community,” their statement reads. “Many of the participating nations and competitors in the Invictus Games family are bound by a shared experience of serving in Afghanistan over the past two decades, and for several years, we have competed alongside Invictus Games Team Afghanistan.”  The statement concludes: “We encourage everybody across the Invictus network — and the wider military community — to reach out to each other and offer support for one another.”
*******Why not reach out to each other, get together and go kick some Taliban ass???
*******Harry served with honor on the front lines.. which deserves respect!

Daniel Craig Not Leaving Money To His Kids

Daniel Craig recently told Candis magazine he plans on spending or giving away his $160 million fortune rather than leave it to his two kids. “Isn’t there an old adage that if you die a rich person, you’ve failed?” he said.  “I think Andrew Carnegie [an American industrialist] gave away what in today’s money would be about 11 billion dollars, which shows how rich he was because I’ll bet he kept some of it, too,” Craig continued.  He added, “I don’t want to leave great sums to the next generation. I think inheritance is quite distasteful. My philosophy is get rid of it or give it away before you go.”  Craig shares his older daughter Ella with his ex-wife Fiona Loudon and a younger daughter with his second wife, actress Rachel Weisz.   He and the Oscar-winner married in June 2011 in a private New York ceremony. Weisz has another child as well, a son from her relationship with director Darren Aronofsky.  Ashton Kutcher also spoke out against leaving his kids large sums of money. He appeared on Dax Shepard‘s “Armchair Expert” podcast back in 2018 and said, “My kids are not getting like big…I’m not setting up a trust for them, we’ll end up giving our money away to charity and to various things.”  “If my kids want to start a business and they have a good business plan, I’ll invest in it but they’re not getting trusts. So hopefully they’ll be motivated to have what they had or some version of what they had,” he continued.
*******Say…. why don’t you give some of that money to MY kids???
*******If you don’t lave them a trust, they’ll have to find a rich family to marry into!!
TOPIC: If you had a lot of money, would YOU leave it to your kids??
******One advantage to Daniel’s approach: if they don’t think they’re getting anything, they won’t poison your drink!!!

Lady Gaga’s Dog Walker Is Homeless

Lady Gaga’s dog walker Ryan Fischer has revealed he’s struggling to stay financially afloat after ditching Hollywood to embark on a journey toward spiritual healing.  In February he was walking Gaga’s French bulldogs named Miss Asia, Koji, and Gustav at night in Los Angeles. He was shot in the chest and two of the dogs, Koji and Gustav, were stolen. Fischer was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery and thankfully a few days later Gaga’s dogs were returned safely.  He revealed he ditched the Hollywood Hills two months ago and began traveling cross-country in a 1991 Ford Falcon rental. However, days ago, he said goodbye to the vehicle that was filled with “me, Trudy, 3 stuffed animals that resemble dogs I care for very much, and WAY too many personal items.”  Fischer has now set up a Go Fund Me page in which he asks for the public’s help in donations. He shares how he’s felt “scared” and lonely” during his journey, at times feeling “abandoned and unsupported.”  “I had long bouts of depression and doubt and self-pity. But those backroads that took me to desert campsites and Walmart lots and rest stops and friends and family to NY and back began to help me see why I had chosen to leave the security of the Hollywood Hills where I fought for my life and mobility,” Fischer writes.
********Huh??? Where the hell is Gaga???? She could send him a million and never miss it!!
*****And another thing: how do you rent a 1991 Ford Falcon??????
******Someone should buy him a huge doghouse!!! Then he’d feel at home!!!

Netflix Gives A Sneak Of The New Charles and Diana

The Crown” has released the first images of Dominic West, 51, and Elizabeth Debicki, 30, in character as Prince Charles and Princess Diana for the upcoming Season 5.  They’re taking over the roles from Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin who played the troubled couple at the beginning of their relationship in Season 4 (O’Connor also played Charles in Season 3) and both scored Emmy nominations and Golden Globes.  Season 5 will also see Imelda Staunton, 65, taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth. Claire Foy played the youngest version of the monarch in Seasons 1-2 while Olivia Colman played her middle years in Seasons 3-4. Meanwhile, “Game of Thrones” star Jonathan Pryce is taking over the role of Prince Philip — played by fellow “Game of Thrones” franchise star Matt Smith in his younger years, and by “Outlander” star Tobias Menzies in Seasons 3 and 4.  Johnny Lee Miller is also joining the cast as Prime Minister John Major, whose reign overlapped with Diana’s tragic death in 1997.

Expensive Hollywood Gravesite

You can now stake your claim on a final resting place next to Marilyn Monroe and Hugh Hefner — for the price of $2 million.  The crypt belonged to Broadway composer Jerry Herman at the Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles.  Herman, best known for his work in “Hello, Dolly!” and “La Cage aux Folles,” bought the tomb in 1997. When he died in 2019, the late musician instead was laid to rest next to his mother in New Jersey.  His surviving family members are now selling the famed LA plot.  “There’s Marilyn Monroe, Hugh Hefner, then Jerry’s [grave],” Herman’s goddaughter Jane Dorian told the Wall Street Journal recently. “He’s next to the two sexiest people that were ever alive.” The LA mausoleum also holds the remains of a number of other icons of Tinsel Town, including Natalie Wood, Dean Martin, Farrah Fawcett and Truman Capote.  The creator of Playboy magazine reportedly paid $75,000 for his spot to the left of “Some Like It Hot” star Monroe, who died prematurely in 1962, before his own death in 2017.  The highest bid ever recorded for a spot at the nation’s most expensive graveyard was for a whopping $4.6 million, listed by Elizabeth Poncher. Her late husband, businessman Richard Poncher, who died in 1986, was a Monroe fanatic and purchased the plot above Monroe after a chance meeting with the starlet’s ex-husband Joe DiMaggio.  “He said, ‘If I croak, if you don’t put me upside down over Marilyn, I’ll haunt you the rest of my life,’ ” Elizabeth told the LA Times, who interviewed her about the auction, in 2009. “I was standing right there, and [the mortician] turned him over.”
********Hey… $2 million’s not that much. You’ll be enjoying it for eternity!!
*******This graveyard is very exclusive. People are dying to get in!!!!

Alligator Attacks Worker At B-Day Party

A children’s birthday party at a reptile center turned into a bit of a nightmare when an alligator attacked its handler.  The incident happened on Aug. 14th at the Scales and Tails in Utah. Video captured by Theresa Wiseman shows an employee attempting to guide the gator back into the water tank after it jumped to the platform.  The employee signs a command for the reptile when it suddenly grabs her hand and begins pulling her into the tank.  Without hesitating, Theresa’s husband, Donnie Wiseman, jumped right into the tank to wrestle the instructor’s hand away from the alligator’s jaws. With the assistance of another guest, the handler was able to free her hand.  See the video HERE.
TIP: Always feed the gator before you get in the tank!!!

The Most Meaningless, Unhelpful Feedback People Get At Work

Huffington Post

  1. “Great job.”

Popular but vague words of encouragement like this are not actually helpful, because they aren’t tied to a specific outcome related to the role or the organization. The person hearing it doesn’t “know why they did a great job, what exactly they did a great job at. They don’t know how their great job has an impact. It’s just not very useful,” Gavin said.  It doesn’t encourage anyone to keep up the good work, either.

“The problem with this type of feedback ― although it feels great to receive it ― is that it is not reinforcing any behaviors. In order to turn meaningless feedback into something that will encourage employees to continue to perform, the feedback must be very specific,” said Angela Karachristos, a career coach who has worked in human resources.

“Instead of saying, ‘good job,’ the manager should say give a specific example of what the person did well so that those positive behaviors can be repeated,” she said.

Often, giving too much unhelpful praise is a people-pleasing mistake that first-time managers make as a way to make up for negative experiences they personally had on a team. “A lot of managers over-correct and really lay on the praise, and not give the kind of support through constructive criticism that actually helps people grow,” Gavin said.

  1. “I don’t like that.”

Bad criticism stops with what someone did wrong, while good criticism gives them a clear path of what needs to happen differently and how they can do it better next time.

“If you just tell someone, ‘Hey, you missed that deadline, that caused problems,’ sure, that might be valid, but it doesn’t give space to improve with whatever context that person is working in,” Gavin said. “It doesn’t create a conversation where the problem can be solved.”

Gavin said subjective, vague feedback such as, “I don’t like that,” “That doesn’t work for me,” or “I’ve never heard that before” stems from someone reaching into “their own subjective experience and not bringing any other external factors in.”

A better method is to be specific about what’s going wrong, or to have the humility to note that the feedback is just an opinion. It’s the difference between “‘Those colors seem very jarring to me, that’s just how they look to my eye,’ versus ‘I don’t like that, I don’t like that design,’” Gavin said.

  1. “You need to work on your attitude.”

In her book “Radical Candor: Be a Kick-Ass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity,” management expert Kim Scott writes that a lot of bad work criticism falls into the trap of highlighting personal traits rather than having external causes of a problem acknowledged.

“It’s easier to say, ‘You’re sloppy’ than to say ‘You’ve been working nights and weekends, and it’s starting to take a toll on your ability to catch mistakes in your logic.’ But it’s also far less helpful,” Scott writes, noting that better criticism makes it clear that a work problem is not “due to some unfixable personality flaw,” and can be used as a tool for improvement.

Karachristos said that a common example of this kind of personal criticism is “You need to work on your attitude.” “Any type of feedback that is focused on the person or that person’s personality, and not the work, can be very problematic,” she said.

At worst, when job performance feedback is tied to a person’s identity, it can be used to hold their career back. Women of color, in particular, are given subjective labels like “difficult,” “angry” or “challenging” in performance reviews ― words that signal they are not a “fit” in a workplace or don’t “fit” a manager’s homogenous idea of success.

Nadia De Ala, founder of Real You Leadership, a group coaching program for women of color, said her clients deal with feedback ― often unsolicited ― about their natural tone of voice and how they dress, rather than about actual points of improvement on their work. One client asked a co-worker for help with compiling marketing research for a promotion and was told, “You’re not going to get promoted if your voice goes up at the end of sentences. You don’t sound confident.”

“This type of feedback was unhelpful because it was unsolicited advice and had nothing to do with market research,” De Ala said.

It speaks to how feedback is not just words: It can make or break an employee’s experience and even push them to leave. Gallup research found that when a boss’ feedback makes employees feel demotivated, disappointed or depressed, four out of five of those employees start to job-hunt.

Sometimes, the feedback can be right, but still be wrong because of how the message is delivered.

If you’re in a position to give feedback, recognize that not everyone likes to hear it the same way.

“You have to be sensitive to where you do it. You might feel like it’s great to publicly recognize the person, but some people hate that. It makes them feel embarrassed,” Karachristos said.

Karachristos said it’s also a mistake for peers and managers to publicly criticize a group when they really intend that message for one person.

“That person will never get the message, and then my whole team is going to get annoyed that I’m down on the whole group, or not necessarily respect me as a team leader or colleague because I’m not brave enough to address the problem,” Karachristos said.
