College Admissions Documentary In The Works
Netflix will release a new documentary film by Chris Smith that explores the college admissions scandal, Operation Varsity Blues, on March 17th. Smith previously directed the documentary Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened for Netflix, which tackled the disastrous Fyre Festival and the man behind it, Billy McFarland. “Everything you’ve heard is true. But you haven’t heard everything. Using real conversations recreated from FBI wiretaps, the filmmaker behind Fyre brings you Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal,” Netflix tweeted Monday alongside a short teaser trailer. Smith, who also executive produced Netflix’s Tiger King, is reuniting with his Fyre producer Jon Karmen on Operation Varsity Blues. The college admissions scandal involved actress Lori Loughlin, her fashion designer husband Mossimo Giannulli, actress Felicity Huffman and dozens more conspiring to fraudulently secure admission for their children to elite colleges. Daft Punk has split up after 28 years of making music. The French electronic music duo, composed of Guy-Manuel Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, announced their retirement Monday. In a video, titled “Epilogue,” Homem-Christo and Bangalter are seen walking in the desert in black outfits and their signature helmets. The pair face each other before one walks away and explodes. The clip features excerpts from Daft Punk’s 2006 film Electroma and a choral version of the duo’s song “Touch.” Daft Punk’s publicist, Kathryn Frazier, confirmed Monday to Variety that the duo have broken up. Queen Set To Upstage Harry and Meghan
Queen Elizabeth II will speak in a TV address on Sunday, March 7 – the same day Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s sit down with Oprah Winfrey will air. On Monday, Westminster Abbey confirmed on Instagram that the reigning monarch’s message for Commonwealth Day will be aired on BBC One. Last year’s Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey marked the final royal appearance made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. This year’s plans were scrapped due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. “We’re really pleased to tell you that BBC One will broadcast A Celebration for Commonwealth Day on Sunday 7 March,” the announcement read on the social media platform. “The programme will replace this year’s Commonwealth Day service which is unable to go ahead due to the pandemic, and will include a special message from HM The Queen.” Last week, CBS announced Harry and Meghan will be speaking with Winfrey. It’s the couple’s first major television interview since quitting royal duties and buying a home last year in the U.S. The 90-minute “Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special” will air on March 7, CBS announced Monday. Winfrey attended their wedding in 2018 and lives near them in Montecito, California.

Prince Philip Update
Prince William said Monday that Prince Philip is “OK” after his 99-year-old grandfather spent a sixth night in a London hospital. “Yes, he’s OK, they’re keeping an eye on him,” William said during a tour of an English vaccination center when asked about Philip. Reporters said William delivered the hopeful news with a wink, although video suggested he may have just blinked while adjusting a mask. Philip was admitted to the private King Edward VII’s Hospital in London on Tuesday as “a precautionary measure” after feeling unwell, Buckingham Palace said at the time. His illness is not believed to be related to COVID-19. Both he and the queen, 94, received a first dose of a vaccine in early January and have remained in a so-called “HMS Bubble” at Windsor Castle. Prince Charles, was spotted visiting him at the hospital on Saturday.

Kris Jenner will be launching her very own beauty brand. She filed an application to trademark “Kris Jenner Skincare” as well as “Kris Jenner Beauty” and “Kris Jenner Skin” on Feb. 10, according to documents from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The applications cover hair care products like shampoo and conditioner and skincare items like cleansers, moisturizers and toners, as well as nail polish and false eyelashes. While this would mark her first self-branded beauty line, she’s no stranger to the arena; not only has she created her own line of makeup for Kylie Cosmetics and a perfume for KKW Fragrance, but she also serves as the CEO of Kylie Cosmetics, which includes Kylie Skin. But Jenner will have heavy competition in the beauty biz, and not just from her own children; tons of other celebs, including Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and Carmen Electra, all have their own skincare brands, with Hailey Baldwin’s Rhode Beauty set to debut this year.

I’m never late; I plan ahead. Prior planning prevents poor performance. I think it’s from my years of training in the theater. If you’re late past a half hour, they replace you and the understudy goes on.

Puzzle Making Record
An Ontario woman is applying for a Guinness World Record after completing a 40,320-piece puzzle — the world’s largest commercially available jigsaw puzzle — in 150 hours. Maxine Olive took on the Ravensburger Memorable Moments puzzle, a 10-panel collection of interlocking puzzles depicting characters from Disney animated movies. Olive said she worked for about 16 hours a day on the puzzle, finishing in a total of about 150 hours. The puzzle enthusiast live streamed video of her attempt on Twitch and posted updates on her Facebook while the work was underway. The Ravensburger Memorable Moments puzzle, which holds a Guinness World Record for the largest commercially available jigsaw puzzle, was previously assembled with a fastest time of 423 hours by a Massachusetts man.

Wedding Ring Found At Recycling Center
Employees at a recycling center in England came to the rescue when a man accidentally dropped his wedding ring into a sorting container. The North Tyneside Council said James Ross was dropping off some cardboard to be recycled at the Household Waste Recycling Center in North Shields when the wedding ring fell off his finger and vanished into the depths of the container. “It was a container where you push the rubbish through an opening. It was very cold. My hands were cold and, as I was shaking out the box, suddenly the ring was just gone. I don’t know if it caught the edge of the box, but my heart just sank,” Ross said. Ross alerted a nearby employee, who informed officials of the incident. The machinery was shut down and soon four workers had climbed inside to search for the ring. “It was like looking for a needle in a haystack as there was a huge mound of waste to search through and we had the added difficulty of ensuring we kept our distance and followed the COVID guidelines. We were just about to give up when I spotted it, I was over the moon,” Plant Operator Jordan Cooper said.

Teen Develops Massive Hairball
A teen in the U.K. who compulsively ate her own hair ended up developing a massive hairball in her stomach that tore a hole through her stomach wall, according to a new report. The oval-shaped hairball was 19 inches long and completely filled her stomach, according to the report, published Feb. 9 in the journal BMJ Case Reports. The 17-year-old initially went to the hospital after she fainted twice, bruising her face and scalp during the falls. Doctors wanted to rule out a head injury, but during an exam, they also noticed a mass in the girl’s upper abdomen. The teen said she had experienced intermittent abdominal pain for the past five months, which had worsened over the two weeks prior to her hospital visit, the report said. She also had a history of two mental health disorders: trichotillomania, or a strong urge to pull out one’s hair; and the related condition trichophagia, or the compulsive eating of hair.

9 Reusable Products That Will Save You Money Over Time
We took nine household products, searched for both reusable and disposable versions on Amazon and compared the costs. Here’s how they stacked up.
Straws
A stainless steel straw costing $0.50 (or $7.99 for a set of 16), is equal to the cost of about 8 disposable straws at 6 cents each. That means that after 8 uses, the reusable straw has essentially paid for itself — plus you’ve got 15 more left over.
Water Bottles
One reusable water bottle costing $16.30 is equal to the cost of about 25 single-use water bottles at 65 cents each.
Translation: Refill your bottle 25 times and then you’re done paying for water entirely.
Diapers
Diaper prices can vary widely. For example, cheap (read: leaky) store-brand diapers cost just a few cents each, while a box of Pampers can set you back nearly $25 a week. The same is true of cloth diapers.
For this comparison, take a cloth diaper costing $5 and a disposable diaper at 29 cents. The cloth diaper has paid for itself after 17 diaper changes.
Multiply that over two years of a child’s life before potty training, and there are major savings to be had by reusing cloth diapers — many of which are adjustable to keep up with your baby’s growth.
Sandwich Bags
This set of 15 reusable, resealable bags costs $11.99, while a box of 150 Ziploc bags runs about $12.99.
Think about it this way: Before you replace that box of disposable bags, you’ve already paid more than you did for your reusable set.
Paper Towels
One cloth kitchen towel at $1.58 is less than the cost of one family-sized roll of paper towels at a cost of $2.75 per roll. Enough said.
Dryer Balls
If you’ve never heard of dryer balls, they’re little wool balls about the size of a tennis ball that you throw in your dryer with your wet laundry in place of fabric-softening dryer sheets. Because the wool can absorb some moisture from your clothes, manufacturers claim they cut down on energy use and drying time.
They can also save you some pennies. A set of six reusable wool dryer balls costs $9.97, while a box of 240 disposable dryer sheets costs just about a dollar less — but you’ll have to restock once you use them all. This one’s a no-brainer.
K-Cups
Did you even know there was a reusable alternative to those little pods of delectable, life-giving coffee? There totally is!
While a box of 40 Starbucks K-Cups will set you back $33.37 (OUCH), a set of four reusable pods that you just refill with your favorite ground coffee runs $10.95.
Razors
Razors are synonymous with disposable. A package of 24 of the plastic ones: $18.99. A single chrome reusable safety razor (that will make you feel like Don Draper): $14.66.
You do have to replace the blade on the reusable one. Don’t worry, they’re cheap. A box of 100 is $9.88 — about 10 cents each.
Feminine Products
Listen up, gal pals. We’re here to tell you that you are not — we repeat, NOT — doomed to pay an exorbitant monthly fee for tampons and liners and pads (not to mention Midol) simply for the privilege of being female.
With a box of 40 tampons costing $12.25 and 66 pads ringing in at $6.38 times every month of your adult life, it’s … a lot. So consider this: One pair of Thinx period underwear is $23, and a Diva cup is $32.99.
That’s a considerable up-front cost, but these products — and really all reusable replacements — are all about long-term savings.
Not to mention tossing a little less waste in the landfill.
