Kate Bush Thanks Stranger Things Fans

Singer Kate Bush says she is excited and grateful to see her 1985 song, “Running Up That Hill,” is a hit again after it was recently used in the first part of Season 4 of “Stranger Things.” “You might’ve heard that the first part of the fantastic, gripping new series of Stranger Things has recently been released on Netflix,” Bush wrote on her website Sunday.  “It features the song, ‘Running Up That Hill’ which is being given a whole new lease of life by the young fans who love the show — I love it too! Because of this, ‘Running Up That Hill’ is charting around the world and has entered the UK chart at No. 8. It’s all really exciting! Thanks very much to everyone who has supported the song. I wait with bated breath for the rest of the series in July.”  The track was also No. 1 on the iTunes chart last week.  The song appears in a scene in which Max (Sadie Sink) goes up against a powerful monster.

Tiger King Star Arrested

Tiger King” star Bhagavan “Doc” Antle was arrested by the FBI and expected to appear in court Monday to face federal money laundering charges.  Federal agents arrested the controversial wild animal trainer Friday and he has been in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway, South Carolina, throughout the weekend.  Antle, the owner of the Myrtle Beach Safari in South Carolina, is featured prominently in “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness,” a 2020 Netflix documentary miniseries that focused on tiger breeders and private zoo operators in the U.S. The charges against Antle were expected to be formally announced during a court proceeding Monday afternoon in Florence, South Carolina.  In May, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals asked the IRS to probe Antle’s Rare Species Fund, a nonprofit raising money for wildlife conservation. PETA alleges he uses some of the fund’s money to subsidize his safari site in Socastee outside Myrtle Beach.

Johnny Depp’s Expensive Celebration

Johnny Depp shelled out more than $62,000 for a special celebratory dinner with his pals on Sunday evening in Birmingham, England.  He indulged in a feast of “authentic Indian cuisine,” cocktails and rosé Champagne at the Varanasi restaurant, which serves “heavenly recipes and soothing ambience,” according to its website.  He scored a big victory Wednesday when he was awarded a $10.35 million judgment in his brutal defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.  He was hanging out with his musician friend and collaborator Jeff Beck and 20 other people in their party at what’s billed as “Birmingham’s largest Indian restaurant.”  The 20,000-square-foot restaurant was closed so Depp and his friends could eat in private, and they left around midnight.

Harry and Meghan Return To California

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Platinum Jubilee trip came to an early end.  They returned to California with their son, Archie, 3, and their daughter, LiIlibet, 1, on Sunday.  They flew out of Farnborough Airport in England on a private jet at 1:30 p.m., missing the Platinum Jubilee Pageant that closed out Queen Elizabeth II’s four-day festivities.  As they flew back to the United States, their family members watched the parade from the Buckingham Palace balcony.  While the event honored the 96-year-old monarch’s unprecedented 70 years of service, her great-grandson Prince Louis stole the show with his funny faces and antics.  Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 4-year-old similarly entertained jubilee crowds with his balcony antics during the Trooping the Colour parade last Thursday. Harry, 37, and Markle, 40, also attended Trooping the Colour, although they did not appear on the balcony due to their resignation from royal duties in February 2021.

Paramount Sued Over Top Gun Copyright

The family of the author whose article inspired the original 1986 “Top Gun” is suing Paramount Pictures for copyright infringement, stating that the studio failed to reacquire the rights to Ehud Yonay’s 1983 article “Top Guns.”  Shosh and Yuval Yonay, heirs to Ehud Yonay, claim that they sent notice to Paramount in January 2018 that they would reclaim the copyright in January 2020, according to a complaint filed in Los Angeles federal court. “Maverick” started shooting in May 2018.  The Yonays also allege that “Maverick” did not finish the production in 2019, prior to the transfer of the copyright, but rather in May 2021.  “Maverick” was initially slated for release in 2019, but was then delayed to 2020. The release was postponed again multiple times due the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It is unclear when Paramount officially finished the film, but that timeline will likely be important as the lawsuit plays out.  The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, including some profits from “Maverick,” and to block the studio from distributing the movie or further sequels. The film has generated more than $546 million globally since its release last month.
*******Guess who’s going to win?? That’s right: the lawyers!!!

STUPID NEWS

Opossum Kicked Out Of Bar

An Alaska woman became a hero in a New York bar when she calmly and efficiently ejected an opossum that had wandered into the establishment.  Video captured at Temkin’s Bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, shows customers panicking as the possum runs around inside the bar.  Chris Egan, who recorded the footage, said a female customer named Sara Fulton stepped forward and said, “Hold my phone, I’m from Alaska.”  Egan’s video shows Fulton calmly walking up to the opossum, grabbing it by the scruff of the neck, and carrying it outside to be released.  Fulton said she is no stranger to wildlife.  “I’m from Alaska and I used to go camping with black bears hanging out at my campsite,” she told NBC New York. “I think it was just instinctual, I just like went up to him and I was like, ‘hey I know you’re afraid’ … and I was like ‘alright, I think I’m just gonna scruff you and take you out because that would be the least painful for you.'” See the video HERE.

Macaw Rescued From Side Of Building

Members of the public, firefighters and animals services personnel came together in South Carolina to rescue a macaw perched on a pillar at a federal building.  Barbara Gillis said she was walking past the U.S. Custom House in downtown Charleston when she heard an unusual bird call.  “I’m like, ‘That doesn’t sound like a bird from around here,'” Gillis told WCBD-TV. “So, I started looking. I’m an animal lover and had a feeling this was not a regular bird, probably a pet.”  Gillis said the bird, a macaw parrot, appeared to be stranded atop a pillar outside the building. She called the Charleston Fire Department.  “They sent a firetruck out,” she said. “It wasn’t a ladder truck but, there were like four or five different firemen who did get out, did try to assist, but they don’t have the right equipment to get her down.”  The bird’s owners, Joseph Weeks and Mike Grindstaff, said their pet, named Miss Kelly, had flown off after getting spooked.  See the video HERE.
********She was just winging it!!!

Sex Act Leads To Car Crash

A Florida man receiving intimate services from his passenger lost focus of the road and crashed head-on into a FedEx truck last Thursday.  The driver and passenger were seriously injured in the crash while occupants of the FedEx truck reportedly faced no injuries.  According to the report, the driver and passenger were heading northbound on North Ocean Boulevard when the driver became distracted by the sexual deeds that his passenger was performing and swerved into the southbound lane crashing into the FedEx truck.  According to the report, both the driver and passenger were treated at the scene for lower-body injuries.  The injuries reportedly do not appear to be reproductively catastrophic.

Lost Sled Dog Found

An Iditarod sled dog was found safe after disappearing from a checkpoint in the race three months ago and covering nearly 150 miles, the Iditarod Trail Committee said Saturday.  Musher Sebastien Dos Santos Borges of France was picking Leon up and returning with him to France, the trail committee said in a statement.  Leon went missing in March after what the trail committee said was his “escape” from the Ruby checkpoint. In May, residents of the Alaska city of McGrath, over 120 miles south of the checkpoint, reported to Race Director Mark Nordman that they’d seen Leon frequently near a cabin.  The resident of the cabin and another musher left food for Leon in the hopes of catching him, according to the trail committee. He was captured early Saturday morning and was safe, alert and “understandably skinny but seemingly healthy,” said Iditarod spokesperson Shannon Markley.  Leon was expected to see a veterinarian in the coming days and needs a health certificate before he can fly back to France, Markley said.
*******What a mushy story!!
****Leon told the cops, “Until you’re lead dog, the view never changes!!”

6 Weird Ways To Trick Your Mind Into Sleep That Actually Work

HUFFINGTON POST

Don’t sleep

One of the most effective ways to trick yourself into falling asleep is to, well, try not to sleep. Trying too hard to sleep never works, and all that worry and anxiety about falling asleep is what actually keeps so many people up at night, said Deirdre Conroy, a sleep psychologist and the clinical director of the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Clinic at the University of Michigan Health Sleep Disorders Centers.

By doing the opposite and forcing yourself to lie in bed and stay awake all night — a phenomenon called paradoxical intention — you’ll unintentionally doze off at some point. “In your mind, you’re actually trying to stay up but sleep will eventually kick in,” Conroy said.

Focus on your mornings

The key to getting good sleep isn’t all about what you do, and don’t do, at night. In fact, your morning routine can have an even bigger impact on your sleep. According to Cathy Goldstein, a sleep neurologist at University of Michigan Health Sleep Disorders Centers, good sleep starts in the morning.

“Set your alarm and get light first thing — this doesn’t just cue your body when wake time is, but also when sleep onset should occur,” Goldstein said. Waking up when your alarm goes off, at the same time each day, and exposing yourself to daylight sets your internal clock, making it easier to fall asleep at bedtime.

Let yourself worry

Conroy said carving out time to worry earlier in the day can help you fall asleep at bedtime. Instead of dismissing your worries altogether, if you spend time worrying about things a few hours before bed — not right at bedtime — you can sleep better at night.

A quick tip: Take 15 minutes to jot down those concerns in a journal, so you can get them out on paper and leave them there. “That actually can decrease the amount of worry that happens at bedtime,” Conroy said.

Think about nature

Jeffrey Durmer, a board-certified sleep medicine physician and sleep coach to the U.S. Olympic Weightlifting Team, said the sounds and darkness of nature are natural ingredients for inducing sleep. After all, nature is known to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, reduce hard rate, and decrease muscle tension.

To get to sleep, Durmer recommended thinking about nature — like the last time you slept in a remote cabin or laid out under the stars. This can even be as simple as starting a fire, lighting a candle or spending “time on a porch, patio, or deck to allow darkness and quiet to reverberate in your mind, rather than light and noise,” Durmer said.

Focus on the sound of your breath

Slow, deep belly breathing — like the 4-7-8 method in which you inhale for four seconds, hold your breath for seven seconds and exhale for eight seconds ― is known to increase relaxation and bring on sleep.

Furthermore, simply focusing on your breath can take the mind off other concerns and worries and bring you to the present moment. “Taking your focus away from the environment and placing it on something entirely in your control (the breath) helps the mind to settle and become calm,” Durmer said.

Exhaust your mind, not your body

There’s a common misconception that exercising at night can help you sleep easier. But while working out tires your body out, it doesn’t necessarily exhaust your mind.

“After a marathon, your body might be tired but that doesn’t mean your mind will be ready for sleep,” Conroy said. Note: Regular exercise improves sleep, in general, but exercising in order to fall asleep won’t do you much good.

Instead of working out to facilitate sleep, Conroy recommended engaging in activities that can tire you out mentally. “We are social people, our brains love to learn and so if you’re not engaging with the world in the day, it may affect your sleep,” Conroy said.

Read a book, do puzzles — have something that you are really mentally engaged in. “Otherwise, there is no difference between the day and the night for some people,” Conroy said.
