Dolly Parton Wants Out Of Rock & Roll Nomination

Dolly Parton announced on Monday that she wants to be taken out of consideration for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.  She was nominated in February, alongside Eminem, Lionel Richie, Beck, Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, DEVO, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Judas Priest, Fela Kuti, MC5, New York Dolls, Rage Against The Machine, Carly Simon, A Tribe Called Quest and Dionne Warwick.  A shortlist of inductees will be announced in May with a ceremony set to take place in the fall.  “Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right. I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out,” Parton said.  “I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again — if I’m ever worthy. This has, however, inspired me to put on a hopefully great rock ‘n’ roll album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do! My husband is a total rock ‘n’ roll freak, and has always encouraged me to do one. I wish all the nominees good luck and thank you again for the compliment. Rock on!” she continued.
*****Hey Dolly! Thanks for the mammaries!!!
*******She took a look at some of the other nominees and said, “I can’t be associated with these people!!”

Tom Brady’s Retirement Ball Sells Big At Auction

Tom Brady’s ‘final’ career touchdown ball has sold for $518,000 at auction, according to the auction site Lelands.  Two days after the auction closed, however, he announced that he would be returning for his 23rd season in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, following a six-week retirement.  The $518,000 ball featured during the Buccaneers’ home playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams on January 23.  Brady threw the ball 55 yards to wide receiver Mike Evans who scored a touchdown to cut the Rams’ lead to seven, 27-20, with 3:20 left to play in the game. Despite their comeback from 27-3 down, the Bucs eventually lost 30-27.  Immediately after the game, Brady was still uncertain about his future playing career. When he announced his retirement a week later, it gave the ball extra significance as it became what was then considered his final career touchdown ball.  Rather than being preserved in a museum, the ball had reached the public domain because Evans had tossed it into the stands in celebration where it was caught by a lucky spectator. Lelands used marks and numbers on the ball to photo match it and verify its authenticity.
*****Wow. Is it still worth $518,000 after Brady UN-retired???
*****Right now, this guy is on his wife’s sh*t list!!!
UPDATE! In case you were wondering, the guy is legally obligated to pay FULL PRICE for the ball, in spite of the fact that its value just went down by 96%!!! GET THE STORY HERE!!

Meghan Markle’s Dad Calls Harry A “Ginger Husband”

Meghan Markle’s father says he’s willing to testify against his estranged daughter and her “ginger husband” in the defamation suit filed by his elder daughter, Samantha Markle.   Thomas Markle said he intends to side with Meghan’s half-sister Samantha, who is suing the former royal over “false and malicious statements” she allegedly made in her explosive Oprah Winfrey interview.  “I would be more than happy to,” he said when asked if he’d sit for a deposition by photographer Karl Larsen on his YouTube channel, “Remarkable Friendship.”    “I’ve been trying for almost four years to get to see my daughter and her ginger husband in a courtroom face-to-face … I’d be thrilled to come to court and talk and defend my oldest daughter.”  Samantha — who is seeking $75,000 in damages, as well as court costs and attorneys’ fees — has alleged in court docs that Meghan falsely claimed to be an only child and lied about when they last saw each other.  Thomas said he believes Samantha would be victorious in court.
******It’s not libel if you can prove it in court!!
*****Harry looks like a royal Ronald McDonald!!
****It just hit us: Harry is blowing off his family the same way Meghan blew off HERS!!

Rod Stewart Fills Pot Holes For His Ferrari

Rod Stewart took it upon himself to fill in the potholes near his home in England after he couldn’t get his Ferrari through.  He posted videos to his Instagram on Friday of him in a neon Hi-Viz safety vest shoveling asphalt out of the back of a truck into large, wet potholes.  Several pals are seen working alongside Stewart in Harlow, Essex, about an hour outside the center of London.  “This is the state of the roads near where I live in in Harlow and it’s been like this for ages … people are bashing their cars up,” Stewart said.  He complained that the government has been putting “millions of pounds” into the nearby M11 highway while neglecting this road.  “And the other day there was an ambulance for the first time, my Ferrari can’t go through here at all, so me and the boys thought we’d come out here and do it ourselves,” he said.  See the video HERE.
*****It’s cheaper to fill the potholes than it is to fix the undercarriage of a Ferrari!!
******It’s not Rod’s fault!! It’s the asphalt!!!

Briefcase Full Of Memories Accidentally Donated

Employees at a Colorado thrift store tracked down a man who mistakenly donated a briefcase that turned out to be filled with 80 years of memories.  Josef Garrett, an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado, said he inherited a family estate and while going through items he decided to donate what he assumed was a typewriter in a large briefcase.  Employees at the Arc Thrift Stores location in Arvada opened the case and discovered it actually contained family letters and photos dating back 80 years.  The store was able to contact Garrett to tell him of the error.  Garrett said the items include a letter his grandmother wrote to her parents just before the birth of his father.  “Reading some of these letters, I started thinking about, like, ‘Oh, this is why this is happening,'” Garrett told KMGH-TV. “This is how I came to be who I am today because of the action of my grandparents and my parents. It’s really kind of cool to be able to think about that when it all could have been lost.”

Old Letters Found In Bathroom Renovations

A couple renovating the house they recently purchased in Nebraska removed a bathroom mirror and found two letters from previous residents — one from 1967, and another from 1995.  Jodi and Kendal Loseke said they started renovating the Columbus home they bought to flip about a month ago, and while working in the bathroom they discovered two letters hidden behind a bathroom mirror.  The first letter, dated June 7, 1967, was authored by 8-year-old Sue Marshall.  “I am Sue Marshall. I live here. Whoever finds this letter, good luck,” Marshall wrote.  The second letter, written on the same sheet of paper underneath Marshall’s message, was written by 27-year-old Mike Gokie on Feb. 24, 1995.  “I found this letter while remodeling the bathroom,” Gokie wrote. “Perhaps you have found it doing the same.”  The Losekes said it wasn’t hard to track down both of the letter writers — Jodi was already friends with Gokie and his wife, Tara, and her stepmother has been friends with Marshall for years.
*******Then they found out that all those people had been MISSING FOR YEARS!! (cue ominous music)

Mummy Found Between Walls

A construction crew found a mummified body in the wall of a convention center in Oakland, California, on Wednesday, authorities said.  A worker found the body in a wall that was being deconstructed during renovations at the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center, according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.  “We found remains best described as mummified,” Lt. Ray Kelly told NBC News. “The conditions in the walls were such that the body was preserved in good conditions.”  Authorities said the mummified body was in late stages of decay and had likely been there for “several years.”  “Any theory is possible,” Kelly added, according to NBC News. “It could be anything from someone who got in behind the wall and became trapped and died to someone put the person there. God only knows.”  The decomposition of the body made it impossible to immediately determine the person’s age or gender, the sheriff’s office said.   Authorities are conducting further forensic testing, Oakland Police Department spokesperson Kim Armstead told the Mercury News.
*********We know!! It was a guy who thought he was a stud.. so they put him in the wall!!

Kid Stuck in Tree Trying To Rescue Cat

A teenager who scaled a tree at an Indianapolis park to rescue a cat he spotted high up in the branches ended up stuck himself and in need of a rescue, officials said.  The 17-year-old boy was at Holliday Park on Indianapolis’ north side Saturday afternoon when he saw the cat and decided to rescue it by climbing 35 feet into the tree, the Indianapolis Fire Department said in a news release.  The teen, identified in the release only as “Owen,” told firefighters “he was trying to do a good deed and bring the cat to safety,” wrote Rita Reith, battalion chief and the department’s spokeswoman.  “While Owen had no trouble climbing up the tree –- his positioning did not allow the same ease for getting down,” she added.  Firefighting crews were called to the park and they used a rope system to lower the boy safely to the ground about two hours later. The department also released video of the rescue.  The teen was checked out by medics, found to have only a few scrapes, and was released to his parents, although the cat remained in the tree.

The Best Healthy Baby Food Tips, According To Experts

HUFFINGTON POST

#1: Introduce solids by the 6-month mark

No matter how you introduce solid food, you need to get started by age 6 months. “From a nutritional standpoint, all of babies’ needs can be met in the first six months with breastmilk and/or formula,” said registered dietitian nutritionist Kacie Barnes, owner and creator of Mama Knows Nutrition. “But around 6 months, the need to support their rapid growth and development means babies need more calories and nutrients than they can get from breastmilk alone.”   Starting on solid foods comes with all-over brain and body benefits. “In addition to providing much-needed nutrients, it helps babies hone their tactile motor skills, and it even supports the lining of the gut to absorb the nutrition they need to grow,” said Molly Beitman, clinical dietitian at Nemours Children’s Hospital. But wait, there’s more. Pediatrician and pediatric emergency medical doctor Dina Kulik said that “introducing food at this age can decrease the risk of food allergies.”

#2: There’s no need to parent-shame over packaged foods

Baby food doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive to make or serve. It’s easy to puree whatever you’re cooking that day for baby to try. But some parents prefer packaged foods, at least some of the time, and like everything else with parenting, that is 100% their business.

“Packaged baby foods are a convenient, affordable and safe way to introduce a variety of nutrients to a growing infant,” Beitman said. “They’re made in standard, food-safe environments, tend to be shelf-stable for long periods of time, and they’re accessible with food assistance programs like WIC or EBT.”

“It’s an option that works really well for many families, especially those who need other caregivers to feed their baby, or when you need to eat away from home,” Barnes said. “There’s a lot of mom-shaming around packaged options, but if it’s the tool that makes it possible for you to feed your baby, there doesn’t need to be any shame or guilt attached. Babies can still get great nutrition even if they don’t eat exclusively homemade baby food.”

#3: Don’t squeeze food pouches directly into baby’s mouth

Finding a brand that works for baby and you requires consideration around preferences for ingredients, preparation and packaging. While pouches are ubiquitous in the kids food sector, experts warn against just handing over a pouch to a baby.

Squeezing a pouch into a bowl or directly onto a spoon can make a big difference.

“Don’t feed directly from the pouch,” registered dietitian Sarah Almond Bushell warned. “Babies need to see their food in order to learn about food, and if they don’t see it, they could miss one of the vital 32 sensory steps required for learning to eat. Likewise, they need to be able to interact with the food, which means getting their hands into it and getting messy with it.”

“If you’re using pouches, squeeze the food onto a spoon and let baby take the spoon and self-feed,” Barnes said. “Eating from a spoon supports proper oral motor development.”

#4: Key nutrients to look for

The experts suggested that looking for the presence of ingredients like iron, fat, DHA and fiber are good starting places for label reading. “Baby foods often are low in iron, but it’s a critical nutrient, because, by 6 months, the stores they were born with have depleted,” Bushell said. The issue, she said, is that iron-rich foods are expensive ingredients. “Manufacturers tend to include the legal minimum, but that’s not enough to affect the iron status of the baby,” she said, noting that good iron sources include meat, especially red meat, dark poultry meat, eggs, oily fish and lentils.

Another important ingredient is fat. “Baby food that is fat-free will not be as satisfying, and fat is crucial to their brain and central nervous system development,” Barnes said. “Always have a fat at every meal, even if it’s just a teaspoon of avocado oil or olive oil stirred into a puree, peanut butter or other nut butter stirred in, or finely ground nuts stirred in.”

You’ll also want to serve DHA-rich foods at least twice a week, Barnes recommended. “It’s an omega-3 fatty acid that’s important for brain development,” she explained. “Try algae oil or fatty fish like salmon and sardines.”

But be aware that everything labeled as “baby food” is not necessarily a good idea. “I suggest avoiding baby cereals altogether,” Kulik said. “Most are devoid of fiber, and they can lead to constipation.”

#5: Choose a good variety of flavors, in order from bitter to sweet

“If parents only remember one evidence-based practice for feeding babies, ‘variety’ may be the most important,” said registered dietitian nutritionist Jennifer Anderson, founder of Kids Eat in Color. “The more variety in flavors, textures and smells, the more babies are likely to continue eating a variety of foods as they get older and have fewer picky eating behaviors.”

“Rather than focusing on what their baby eats each day, it’s helpful to look at what their baby eats over the course of a week,” Anderson said. “If the parent is serving a variety of foods from all the food groups at meals and letting their child decide how much to eat, it’s likely the child is going to get the nutrition that they need.”

Another pro tip is to serve each meal in a particular order, from bitterest to sweetest foods. “Babies prefer sweet foods, so they’re more likely to reject bitter or sour flavors unless they have learned to like them,” Bushell said. She recommended offering more bitter vegetables like broccoli, kale, spinach, potato, cauliflower or green beans before it’s time to offer sweeter fruits or vegetables like carrot, butternut squash or sweet potato.

#6: Know when it’s time to move beyond blended solids

Whatever you do, don’t get too comfortable with the well-blended menu, because soon it’s time to move on to bigger challenges of taste and texture. “I cannot emphasize enough the importance of exposing babies to a variety of textures from the get-go, instead of offering smooth purees for too long,” registered dietitian Natalia Stasenko said. “Make sure to transition to mashed and finger foods within weeks of starting solids, because babies are primed for learning and will happily challenge themselves at this age.”

“After age 6 months, I recommend babies start to eat the same foods as their parents do,” Kulik said. “Herbs, spices and salt can be added to the meal, just as the parents would enjoy.”
