Nick Jonas Baby Was In NICU

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra showed off their baby girl via social media for the first time on Mother’s Day.  They shared a photo featuring their baby girl and revealed she had spent over 100 days in the NICU.  “On this Mother’s Day we can’t help but reflect on these last few months and the rollercoaster we’ve been on, which we now know, so many people have also experienced,” the two said in the caption of the post. “After 100 plus days in the NICU, our little girl is finally home.”  “Every family’s journey is unique and requires a certain level of faith, and while ours was a challenging few months, what becomes abundantly clear, in retrospect, is how precious and perfect every moment is.”  The couple, in the caption of the post, thanked the doctors and nurses who took care of their daughter during her time in the NICU.  “We are overjoyed that our little girl is finally home, and just want to thank every Doctor, nurse and specialist at Rady Children’s La Jolla and Cedar Sinai, Los Angeles, who were there selflessly every step of the way. Celebrity Chef Waives Jury Trial

Celebrity chef Mario Batali has waived his right to a jury trial and is opting to have a judge decide his fate in his sexual misconduct trial in Boston.  He confirmed the decision to Boston Municipal Court Judge James Stanton as the trial opened Monday morning.  Batali pleaded not guilty to a charge of indecent assault and battery in 2019, stemming from accusations that he forcibly kissed and groped a woman after taking a selfie with her at a Boston restaurant in 2017. The woman says Batali noticed her photographing him and invited her to take one together, then touched and kissed her repeatedly without her consent.  If convicted, Batali could face up to 2 1/2 years in jail and be required to register as a sex offender. He’s expected to be in court throughout the proceedings, which should last about two days.  He was once a Food Network fixture on shows like “Molto Mario” and “Iron Chef America.” But the ponytail-and-orange Croc-wearing personality’s high-flying career crumbled amid sexual misconduct allegations.

Britney Spears Shares Wedding Date

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari announced via Instagram Stories on Sunday that they have set a wedding date.  “Our lives have been a real life fairytale,” he wrote over a pic from when the pair first got engaged in September 2021.  “happy Mother’s Day to you my soon to be queen.”  Asghari then added, “Also The big day has been set!” before noting that the exact date will be kept secret, writing, “But nobody will know until the day after.”  She may have dropped a big hint that the wedding will take place sooner rather than later – as the designs of her dress are well underway.  “It’s MEOW time boys and girls  And yes, this is the veil to my wedding dress!!!” she captioned a picture of her cat on Saturday.  In November 2021, Spears announced that she had chosen longtime friend and iconic designer Donatella Versace to make her wedding dress.  Since then, Versace has been spotted making several visits to Spears’ estate in California.

Wills and Kate Will Run The Queen’s Jubilee

Kate Middleton and Prince William are set to lead celebrations for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee across the U.K.  They will be the most senior members of the royal family to travel outside of London during the monarch’s celebratory weekend next month. They will head to Wales, where they lived for a few years when they were first married more than a decade ago, while Princess Anne will travel to Scotland and Prince Edward and Sophie, The Countess of Wessex, will go to Northern Ireland.  “Over the course of the Central Weekend, Members of the Royal Family will visit the Nations of the United Kingdom to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. Members of the Royal Family will attend engagements in each nation, including public events marking the occasion,” the palace announced in a statement.  The main celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee will begin on Thursday, June 2, with the traditional birthday parade, Trooping the Colour. It was announced on Friday that while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have confirmed that they will travel to the U.K. next month, they will not be appearing on the Buckingham Palace balcony at the end of the parade.

Stray Dog Rides Along with Detective

A Florida sheriff’s detective made a “new canine friend” when he opened the door of his patrol vehicle and a loose dog jumped into the passenger seat.  The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that a detective was sitting in his car when he spotted a loose dog wandering in traffic.  The detective opened his door to call to the dog, and the canine jumped right into the passenger seat of his patrol vehicle.  The detective “drove his new canine friend to Animal Care and Control, where his microchip identified his owners,” the post said.  The dog was reunited with his family, officials said.

Runaway Goat Captured

A pair of goats named Jack and Jill were apprehended by police after they were spotted roaming the streets of Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood.  The incident took place just before 4 a.m. EDT.  CBS Philly uploaded to Twitter video footage of police trying their best to corral the goats into their squad cars.  Jack and Jill were then returned to their home, which was located about three blocks away.  “That has to be the oddest thing I’ve ever seen,” Rumilio Torres of Nicetown in Philadelphia said.  Recently, police in England had to round up a loose goat that was running through lanes on a busy highway.  See the video HERE.

Florida Woman Beat Another Person’s Kid At School

A Florida woman faces multiple charges after she allegedly beat another person’s child at school, according to police.  NBC affiliate WTVJ reported that Florida City police identified Kady Ann Sewell, 33, as the woman who hit another student with a belt at the Bethel Seventh Day Adventist school Thursday.  The victim’s mother, Zendre Pollard, told WTVJ that her son was being bullied and defended himself against another student, who was Sewell’s son.   “He called and said someone was bullying him, fat shaming him, and he picked up the child and dropped the child back down on his feet,” Pollard said.  After the incident, Sewell showed up to the school and attack the victim with the belt, with the incident caught on camera. Pollard said her son got a busted lip after being hit by Sewell.  According to WTVJ, the two mothers know each other personally. Pollard told the station that she had filed a restraining order against Sewell, which was granted by a judge.

6 Ways to Get Teacher Loan Forgiveness

How to Apply

Submit a completed Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program application. The head of the school(s) where you completed your service will have to complete the certification section, and you’ll need to submit separate applications for each loan servicer.

Although $5,000 to $17,500 can put a dent in a debt, if your loans reach into the upper five digits (or six digits) — or you don’t meet the requirements of the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program — you do have other options.

2. Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Similar to the Teacher Loan Forgiveness program, Public Service Loan Forgiveness has quite a few hoops to jump through. But the good news is that the public service program does not restrict teachers to a specific school or subject matter.

If you’re employed by a government or non-profit, you’re eligible to qualify for loan forgiveness after 120 payments — that’s 10 years for you non-math teachers. You’ll need verification for each year of qualification.

The program was created in 2007 by former president George W. Bush to help public service workers, like teachers, get out of student loan debt. But the guidelines were so strict and confusing, few people actually qualified for forgiveness.

In 2021, the Department of Education announced an overhaul of the PSLF program, allowing previously non-qualifying payments to be counted toward forgiveness, and in some cases wiping out student loan balances.

Which Loans Are Eligible?

• Payments on all Direct loans enrolled in Pay As You Earn Repayment Plan (PAYE) and Income-Based Repayment Plan (IBR).
• Payments made on all Direct loans that were not in PAYE and IBR are temporarily eligible to count toward forgiveness.
• Perkins and Federal Family Education Loans (also known as FFEL) can qualify if they are consolidated, but previous payments may count though a limited PSLF waiver.

Who’s Eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness?

You must have a full-time job in the public sector, and you’ll need 120 qualifying, non-consecutive loan payments (that’s 10 years worth).

As a teacher, your employer matters, but the options are much more plentiful than the restrictive Teacher Loan Forgiveness program. Qualifying employers include federal, state, local or tribal government organizations and not-for-profit organizations that are tax-exempt.

How to Apply

Login to the Federal Student Aid site and use the Public Service Loan Forgiveness tool to determine whether you, your loan and your employer qualify, as well as to fill out the form.

3. Perkins Loan Teacher Cancellation

Although the Perkins Loan Teacher Cancellation is specifically designed for teachers, it’s also specifically for Perkins loans.

The Perkins Loan Program ended on Sept. 30, 2017, so if you’re a recent graduate, this forgiveness may not be of much help. But if you have outstanding federal Perkins loans, you can still qualify for cancellation.

If you are eligible, up to 100% of your loan may be canceled in increments for years of teaching service.

To qualify, you must either teach at a low-income school or teach one of the following subjects:

• Mathematics
• Science
• Foreign Languages
• Special Education
• Subject area that is facing a shortage of qualified teachers in your state

Private school teachers can also qualify for the Perkins Loan Teacher Cancellation.

How to Apply

To apply, contact the school where you obtained the Perkins Loan to learn its specific rules.

4. AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps programs place teachers in high-need urban and rural areas across the U.S. The positions are limited-term contracts but come with a full salary and other benefits.

After completing your AmeriCorps term of service, you are eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, which can be used to repay qualified federal student loans that includes Direct, Perkins Loans, Federal Consolidated Loans and others listed here.

You can use your award to repay defaulted federal student loans, as long as it qualifies.

This award is subject to federal tax in the year each payment is made, making it taxable income.

5. State- and School- Forgiveness Programs

The availability of teacher loan forgiveness programs at the state and local level depends on where you live. If you’re struggling with student debt, you might be able to find a sympathetic ear at your alma mater or state agency.

Almost every state has at least one type of student loan forgiveness program that’s designed for those in public service fields.

How to Apply

Contact your college’s financial aid or alumni office to find out about its forgiveness program options. For state and local programs, check out this directory from the American Federation of Teachers.

6. Income Driven Repayment Plans

This one isn’t specific to teachers, but it’s certainly applicable here.

The standard repayment term for federal student loans is 10 years. If you have difficulty making payments, you have four main options within an income driven repayment plan (IDRP) for lowering them that take your income and expenses into account:

• Income-Based Repayment Plan (IBR)
• Income-Contingent Repayment Plan (ICR)
• Pay as You Earn (PAYE)
• Revised Pay as You Earn (RPAYE)

We cover each of these repayment plans in more detail in this article, but know that these plans aren’t actually forgiveness programs. They’re repayment programs with a forgiveness option at the end. You’ll need to resubmit your income and family size every year to determine eligibility — and the forgiven portion is subject to federal taxes.
