Stallone Reflects On Near Divorce

Sylvester Stallone learned a “hard lesson” during his and Jennifer Flavin’s brief breakup.  “Let’s just say that it was a very tumultuous time,” he said of his short-lived split in an interview with the Sunday Times, which has since been removed from the site.  “There was a reawakening of what was more valuable than anything, which is my love for my family,” he continued, according to People.  “It takes precedence over my work, and that was a hard lesson to learn.”  They called it quits in August, with the former model filing for divorce in Florida.  Four days later, he made headlines for covering his tattoo of the former model with a dog.   Stallone told Page Six two weeks later that his marriage was “irretrievably broken,” saying, “I love my family. We are amicably and privately addressing these personal issues.”  However, the duo revealed their reconciliation the following month.  “They decided to meet back up at home, where they talked and were able to work out their differences,” the couple’s rep said in September.  Stallone and Flavin’s divorce was dismissed earlier last month.

Prince Harry Will Be Traveling to England

Prince Harry is reportedly traveling to England over the holidays to explain his “intent” in writing Spare to the royal family. According to the Daily Mail, Harry may fly to the United Kingdom to promote his memoir in the New Year, and a source tells the outlet “put it this way, it’s not going to make for a relaxing family Christmas.”  This comes amid a report from The Mirror that Harry and Meghan turned down an invitation to spend Christmas with the royal family in Sandringham, with a source saying things are “near rock bottom” despite hopes that there might be a “thawing of relations” following the Queen’s death in September.  One insider told the outlet that the royals were “completely caught by surprise” with the title of the book, adding “This book could spell the end for any relationship Harry wants to have with his family, it’s desperately sad. Everyone is bracing themselves for yet another fraught and frantic period at the mercy of the Sussexes.”

Kanye West Headed For Financial Ruin

Kanye West could be just months from a financial mess.  As he is dropped by corporations and condemned by industry figures, sources say that while he has a large stash of cash, he also has vast expenses and could be in trouble soon if he doesn’t find a way to turn the tide.  Sources familiar with his finances say that West has five sources of income, and that four of them have been either completely shut down or badly compromised by his anti-Semitic outburst and support for white supremacists.  West has made money from his massive Adidas deal, his Gap deal, his music catalogue, selling new music and concerts.  As far as concerts — which should be the easiest money a star like West can make, and a dependable source of quick liquid cash — go, he was due to have a show at SoFi Stadium in LA on November 4 but that was canceled by the venue, he has no more booked and it’s unlikely venues will book him amid the scandals, according to insiders.  That leaves royalties, which net him around $5 million a year, according to Billboard. He bought a $57 million Malibu, Calif., home last year and gutted it. It’s in the midst of being rebuilt virtually from the ground up. Sources say that project is severely at risk because of his financial troubles. He also has a slew of other homes, but we’re told many of them are mortgaged.
*********We must have missed the “support for white supremacists!” When was THAT??
********Not to support what he said, but if they can do this to him… think of what they can do to the “little people.”

Bob Saget Finally Gets Headstone

The grave of comedian Bob Saget finally has a headstone befitting of the beloved “Full House” star nearly 10 months after his sudden death.  In Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, the headstone bears Saget’s full name, Robert L. Saget, and a touching tribute to the actor, who died in January at age 65.  “Loving & devoted husband, father, son, uncle, brother & friend,” the epitaph says, as seen in photos published by the Daily Mail.  “He brought people together and made them laugh. A very great man,” it says.  The headstone, of course, also includes Saget’s date of birth (May 17, 1956) and the date of his death on Jan. 9, 2022 — the night he was found dead in his Orlando, Fla., hotel room between stops on his stand-up comedy tour.

Oprah Is Not Endorsing Weight Loss Gummies

Oprah Winfrey is warning fans against falling victim to companies selling weight loss products using her name and image.  On Sunday, she took to Instagram to distance herself from gummies being sold online, saying she does not endorse edible weight loss products.  In the short video, Winfrey said she felt compelled to address the online scams after being approached five times in one week by people looking for weight loss gummies.  “I have nothing to do with weight loss gummies or diet pills and I don’t want you all taken advantage of by people misusing my name,” she told her 21.6 million Instagram followers.  Winfrey, who does have a partnership with and stake in WW International, the company formerly known as Weight Watchers, added in the video caption: “Fraud alert! Please don’t buy any weight loss gummies with my picture or name on them.  “There have been social media ads, emails, and fake websites going out and I want you to hear it straight from me, that I have nothing to do with them. Please don’t be taken advantage of and don’t give your personal information to them.”

Number Generator Picks Winning Numbers

A Michigan man who won a lottery jackpot of $25,000 a year for life said the numbers on his winning ticket came from a random number generator he found online.  Aaron Essenmacher told Michigan Lottery officials he bought his ticket for the Sept. 15 Lucky for Life drawing from the Happy Days Party Store in Warren.  “I’ve been playing Lucky For Life quite a bit lately and I always use the same sets of numbers,” Essenmacher said. “When I purchased my ticket, I played the sets of numbers I typically play and then I decided to add another set of numbers which I got by using a random number generator I found online.”  The five white balls in the drawing were 02-18-27-41-45.  “I was checking the winning numbers online the day after the drawing and when I saw I’d matched five, I couldn’t believe it! What shocked me even more was that the numbers I won on are the ones I got from the random number generator. I kept scanning my ticket on the app over and over again because I couldn’t believe I’d really won,” Essenmacher said.  The random numbers earned Essenmacher a prize of $25,000 a year for life.

Electric Tricycle Seized

Police in Ireland said they seized an unusual vehicle — an electric tricycle — when the operator was found to be using it without a license or insurance.  The Gardai, Ireland’s national police, said in a Facebook post that while the electric tricycle is unusual, it is still considered a “mechanically propelled vehicle” under the Road Traffic Act.  The post said the designation means an operator is required to have a driver’s license and insurance in order to use it on public roads.

Live Alligator Stuffed In Suitcase

A live albino alligator was allegedly recovered from an American man’s suitcase in Germany last month and the reptile is reportedly on the road to recovery.  The three-foot-long alligator was detected at the Munich Airport in late September with one of the airport’s security checkpoint X-ray machines, according to a report by Süddeutsche Zeitung, a German newspaper.  Custom officials reportedly found the alligator wrapped in cling film when they opened the suitcase.  Fox News Digital reached out to the Munich Airport’s media relations team for comment and was redirected to the airport’s customs spokesman.  The spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.  A photo of the alleged albino alligator and an alleged X-ray image of the animal have circulated on social media by international news outlets.  The images appear to show an alligator affixed in a circular position with duct tape and plastic cling wrap.  See the video HERE.

Doggie Restaurant Opens In S.F.

Dogue opened last month in San Francisco’s Mission District.  For $75 dollars per pup, doggie diners get a multiple-course “bone appetite” meal featuring dishes like chicken skin waffles and filet mignon steak tartare with quail egg.  It also includes a mimosa and a baked treat for the pup’s human.  Rahmi Massarweh, a dog owner and classically trained chef, decided to leave his stressful job running a fine dining restaurant to focus on his new canine cafe.  Some critics have expressed online outrage over the price point for the pampered pets, pointing out income inequality, gentrification and homelessness in the city. For the cost of the tasting menu, you could buy at least five big burritos at one of the many nearby taquerias in the Mission neighborhood.  On a recent Sunday, Dogue hosted three fur baby birthday parties simultaneously.  Massarweh spends hours cooking and prepping for his service and says a similar menu for people could cost up to $500 in the expensive city and the ingredients he uses are not cheap. Everything is human-grade, although if you took a bite, you’d probably find the doggie dishes to be a bit bland for the human palate.

Beyond Jack-O’-Lanterns: 21 Creative and Tasty Ways to Use Pumpkins

THE PENNY HOARDER

Eat Your Pumpkin

Eating your pumpkin is probably the most enjoyable way to reuse it. There’s a pumpkin recipe for every part of your gourd — even those stringy guts.

While carving pumpkins aren’t quite as flavorful as other varieties (such as sugar or pie pumpkins), they’ll still work for any of these dishes.

PRO TIP

You’ll find the best prices for pumpkins at farmers markets, independent seasonal stands and church pumpkin patches. The average pumpkin costs about $3 but expect to pay more for an oversized gourd.

  1. Make Pumpkin Puree

While it doesn’t sound appetizing on its own, pumpkin puree is a the gourd’s gift that keeps on giving.

It’s incredibly versatile: You’ll be able to turn your puree into pumpkin muffins, breads and soups down the road — even a delicious Thanksgiving pumpkin pie. Pumpkin puree is the base for most of the dishes on this list.

Creating the puree is simple: Just boil, bake or steam your pumpkin, according to Good Housekeeping. If you used a real candle in your jack o’ lantern, make sure to cut off and discard any burned sections or leftover wax.

The puree freezes well for future use; I like to use zip-closure freezer bags, filled and partially flattened for easy stacking.

  1. Brew Pumpkin Spice Latte

Curl up on your own couch with a homemade pumpkin spice latte. Save time and money and make that “me time” a little more cozy. Here’s a recipe that can even be vegan from Champagne-Tastes.com.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of pumpkin spice puree (canned or homemade)
  • 4 ounces brewed espresso (The link has hacks if you don’t have an espresso machine.)
  • ½ cup milk or coconut milk
  • Optional additions: 1 teaspoon maple syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and/or cinnamon or nutmeg

Directions

  1. Brew espresso and steam milk. If you don’t have a milk steamer, heat milk on stovetop and use a hand-held frother or immersion blender to create some froth. Froth is optional.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of the pumpkin spice purée into each coffee cup. Divide the espresso between the two cups, and then stir to help blend the pumpkin and espresso.
  3. Pour milk into each espresso, holding back the froth with a spoon. Top with foam. Optionally, dust with more cinnamon or nutmeg.
  4. Note: Because we’re using real pumpkin, some sediment may settle if the drinks are left to rest before drinking.  If not serving immediately, make sure to stir again before serving.
  5. Enjoy a Pumpkin Cocktail or Pumpkin Beer

For those looking for something a little stronger than a latte, pumpkins can give a seasonal touch to custom cocktails, too. alcoholic beverages

Here’s an easy recipe from SeriousEats.com for making pumpkin liqueur to mix with vodka. And what goes better with Halloween than a pumpkin martini?

This seasonal treat is delicious on toast, in smoothies or on oatmeal. You can make it all year if you freeze extra pumpkin puree.

Check out this simple recipe on Oh She Glows. (Bonus if this is important to you: It’s vegan).

  1. Snack on Roasted Seeds

They’re a classic snack for a reason. A handful of roasted pumpkin seeds  is a delicious way to get iron, magnesium, zinc and a healthy dose of fiber.

Roasting them is simple — just dry out the seeds and bake them on a baking sheet with olive oil and salt — but play with toppings to find one that works for you: salt and pepper, chili powder or cinnamon are all good options.

  1. Make Vegetable Stock with the Guts

While the flesh and seeds are often popular foods, the stringy insides of pumpkins usually go straight to the trash or compost. No more!

Try adding them to other veggie bits like carrot tops and/or onion ends to make a flavorful stock.

  1. Bake Pumpkin Gut Bread

If you’re looking for something a little heartier than soup, try this recipe from Diana Johnson of Eating Richly. She calculates that making two loaves costs about $2.

  1. Cook Pumpkin Risotto

Another way to put those pumpkin guts to use: Try this delicious pumpkin risotto, which Gothamist Editor Nell Casey adapted from The New York Times.

  1. Make Pumpkin Pickles

If you’re pickle-obsessed, you’ll want to try these babies. For a sweeter pickle to go with desserts or cheese platters, try this pickled sugar pumpkin recipe from Serious Eats.

  1. Dry Pumpkin Skin into Chips

This is a whole different kind of chip that’s filling and fun.

Use a dehydrator or your oven to dry the skin into crispy chips for snacks or garnishes, recommends Gina Harney of Fitnessista.

Decorate With Pumpkins

Halloween might be over, but it’s still fall and pumpkins make great additions to your home, garden and holiday decorations.

  1. Use Pumpkins as Serving Bowls

Save on decorations (and dishwashing) by using pumpkins as serving bowls for soup or cider.

Here’s an easy way to make a pumpkin bowl, from Sanam Lamborn of My Persian Kitchen.

  1. Turn a Pumpkin into a Planter

Keep the fall festivities going by using your pumpkin as a planter for a small potted plant.

The planter will last for several weeks, and then you can plant it directly in your garden to decompose.

  1. Create a Pumpkin Bird Feeder

Feeling artsy? Feed your neighborhood birds by making this simple bird feeder from Instructables.

  1. Save Them for Your Thanksgiving Table

No need to spend extra money on table decorations — plan to keep a pumpkin or two, and you’ll be all set. Use Pinterest for ideas and inspiration.

Your pumpkins will make it to Thanksgiving, as long as you choose wisely. An uncarved, healthy pumpkin “can last 8 to 12 weeks,” Cornell University horticulturalist Steve Reiners told NPR.

  1. Make Pumpkin Snowmen

Three pumpkins painted white make up a really hip snowman on your front steps. Look at this this cute, crafty way to make it happen. You’ll get an early start on your winter decorating — or if you’re feeling entrepreneurial, you could even try selling your creations.

Get Creative

If you don’t want to cook or decorate with pumpkins, what else can you do? Try one of these fun ideas.

  1. Relax With a Pumpkin Face Mask

Out late at a Halloween party? Recharge your skin with pumpkin’s good-for-you vitamins A, C and E.

You’ll only need to add honey and milk, according to this simple recipe from Beautylish. Add this to the list of fun ways to save money with DIY beauty products!

  1. Build a Pumpkin Catapult

If you’d rather throw your pumpkin than eat it or decorate with it, try building a pumpkin catapult or trebuchet. This is not as quick and easy as most of our suggestions so far, but it could make for some good bonding out in the driveway.

  1. Transform a Pumpkin Into a Canvas

Pumpkin-painting is a great chance for kids to have fun creating art with pumpkins, especially if they’re a little young for carving tools.

All you need is some butcher or craft paper, a few paper plates and washable paint. Or get a little more creative — The Artful Parent explains the details.

  1. Save the Seeds

Not a fan of eating the seeds? Instead, hold onto them to plant in your garden next spring. Kids will enjoy watering them and think they’ve seen a magic trick when those little leaves start to sprout.

Growing your own pumpkins will save you money — and let you enjoy even more homemade treats next year.

  1. Compost Your Pumpkin

At the very least, your leftover pumpkin can help you grow an incredible garden next year. Cut it into smaller pieces and toss it in the compost pile, then mix it into your soil next spring.
